AVI Files import audio fine, video does not playback correctly

Premiere Pro CS4 imports my AVI file's audio, but video playback does not match up; that is, the audio will playback until finish, but it appears that the video portion only reaches the third or fourth frame of the video! All other video formats import just fine.
This issue did not occur in CS3.
I use Windows XP SP3.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I solved the problem by installing the proper codec (LEAD MJPEG).
Now I have another problem -- when scrubbing through videos, it seems as if the audio doesn't follow the cursor. That is, if I scroll to the MIDDLE of a video, I hear audio from the BEGINNING of the video, as if I had just paused and resumed.
What could be the problem here?? This appears to happen for DivX movies, which I actually don't use often. But still, this would be a nice problem to solve.

Import and Backup is the third (last) button on the toolbar in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) that looks like a star.<br />
Other platforms show the text label, but on Mac you only see toolbar icons.

  • In Premiere Pro CS5.5 AVI file imports audio only - no video.

I've got a file (one of 3) I've been given to create a smaller file (320x480) from.
The file is an avi file and plays (video and audio) just fine in the native Windows media player. (I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit) There are no issues of memory or HDisc space.
    Video:
The file is 2:21:29 in length.
    720x480
    Data rate 1489kbps
    Total bitrate 1617kbps
    29 frames/second
    Audio:
    Bit rate 128kbps
    Channels 2 (stereo)
    Audio sample rate 48 kHz
    The file is about 1.6Gb
This is one of 3 I recieved. The other two were of comparable specs and similar length (not exactly but one was longer, the other shorter.)
The problem is that this particular file (the other two import perfectly), when imported, only comes in as an audio file. No video imports. The other files import as audio and video. No error message either.
I've imported all kinds of video files in the past with different frame sizes, rates, and aspect ratios, and codecs, yet I've never had one that only imports the audio without the video.
    Suggestions?!

  • Avi files play audio no video

    I have a newly installed CS5 on a newly built pc (MB = MSI-X58A-G065, 12 GB RAM, CPU = i7-950 QC, 3.06GHz, Graphics Card = MS-N460GTX-HAWK, 14 TB hard drives on Raid0 and Raid1)
I have hundreds of hours of footage that are on external hard drives (edited and original files) that are .avi files. The breakout box on the computer that was used for digitising is a Canopus DV Rx realtime  When I place these .avi files on a CS5 (DVpal sequence settings) timeline, they play back audio with green video. I have checked (using GSpot) that the requisite codecs are installed and they are. I have tried importing files in Adobe Media Encoder and converting/exporting them as uncompressed .avi and .mov files. No joy - still green. I searched Canopus and this perhaps has something to do with Canopus being a 32 bit codec and CS5 being 64bit. I am now planning to install CS4 and use this for all my dvpal footage and use CS5 for editing HD and any new DVpal footage. This is not the ideal workflow solution. Does anybody have any conversion or other suggestions?
    Thanks

You probably do need 64-bit codecs, as I'm assuming these are Canopus HQ files. A quick search suggested that those were only available with Edius 6; if you have that, the dongle in place, and Premiere Pro CS5 concurrently installed, you can decode the files.
But, let's make sure that that's indeed the case: grab MediaInfo and run one of the files through in Text view. Copy and paste the report here.

  • Audio from videos does not export to Itunes/QT when exporting slideshows.

Created a slideshow with photos and videos. Vids have sound- iphoto lowers the music to allow for video sound to play through. It does not work when exported however. Any suggestions? I just changed the settings in Itunes to allow the stock tracks to play (finally)- this is the last hurdle.

Welcome both of you to the Apple Discussions. I don't know if it's a bug or not but Quicktime does not support that type of audio manipulation.
My workaround was to export the slideshow w/o music as QT full quality (.dv extension), import into iMovie HD 6 and add the audio there where I could mute the music where I wanted. iMovie HD 6 was a part of iLife 6. I kept it as it's, IMO, much more capable for this type of audio work than the newer versions.

  • AVI file imports into Premiere Elements but not Premiere Pro CS5.5

I tried to import an avi file into Premiere Pro 5.5, only to get the message: "Unsupported format or damaged file." The weird thing is, I have no problem importing the same file into Premiere Elements 1.0 and Premiere Elements 3.0. From the message boards, I somewhat understand that avi is a container and that there are actually 1000s of different formats within that "avi" label. Anyone know why PE is more capable than Pro on this task? Any solutions?
    Geoff.

Well... what is inside that AVI file?

  • Link to a file in the jsp page does not open correctly

    Hi all,
I have a JSP application which is similar to a discussion forum and the messages usually carry a link to an attachment file which could be of any extension.
The client pool I am dealing with are concerned only with MS Word/Excel/PPT files. When the user clicks on the file, a new browser window opens but it does not open the file in the correct application. I know that browsers can display Doc, ppt and xls files.
In my case, the browser just shows some garbage. THe link is to the correct file, I know that because I can right click and download the file and then open it in the correct application. But I want browser to find the application and open the file.
Can somebody give me hints as to what may be wrong?
Also, I am in the development stage and therefore I have only 100 odd messages in the database. Many have attachements. But only one attachment to a particular message works well..ie the browser finds MS Word and displays the doc.
Why not the remaining doc/ppt files?
    Help please!!
    Thanks in advance.

  • Audio plays video does not

i cannot get the video to work in quicktime only the audio. i have tried to set the advanced setting to "safe mode" as referred to in a past post but when i go into the advance setting i see NOTHING for "safe mode". i wanted to uninstall quicktime but from all the research i have done i cannot find a way to do it. what am i possibly doing wrong?

    What are you doing wrong?
Looking for Mac answers and using Windows only solutions like "Safe mode".
    Try this instead:
Open HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder and drag the QuickTime Plugin.webplugin to your Desktop. Quit and relaunch Safari and try the page again.

  • I rename an iMovie 08 project and now my project video does not playback!!!

I rename a completed project and now when I scroll the curser across the various video imports, the sound plays, but I do not get video playback. I can see the video fine in the thumbnails, but they don't play.
Any suggestions short of creating the whole project from start again?
    Thanks.

In the middle of my project, I just went up to File -> Reveal in Finder. It brought up the Finder with what looks like a 'hidden' location of the file. Here are a couple of pictures that might help show what I did:

  • HD video does not play correctly in Quicktime

I have a Kodak Z1275 camera. My PC is a Compaq with Athlon 64 3800 processor. Quicktime version 7.4.1.
When I play videos taken in HD mode, the color is not correct when I play them back using Quicktime. Everything is blue.
When I play them back on the camera, they are fine.
Videos taken in non-HD mode play fine on the PC.
Can anyone tell me what is going on?
    Thanks

Open the QuickTime Control Panel / Video tab and check the box to use "Safe mode".
Quit and relaunch QuickTime Player and any open browser and try the file again.

  • File Path and Name field does not display correct path

We are using Crystal 2008 along with VS 2005. We embed the special "File Path and Name" field  inside our report and it displays the correct path when viewed inside Crystal reports:
    C:\Program Files\reports\Chart.rpt
When run through the web and viewed in the DHTML viewer, the file name and path appear as follows:
    C:\Windows\TEMP\Chart {02152A43-3339-4C03-A50A-E281E1D391AF}.rpt
    How can this be corrected?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

This is a known issue tracked under ADAPT0000962216. At this time I do not know when this will be resolved, however Service Pack 2 for CR 2008 is targeted to be released by September and this may contain the fix.

  • Video does not play correctly.

Hello, I can't get the video on my ipod to play correctly anymore. All it does is show a little picture of the video and then just plays the sound from the video. It did get confused with the music list, but I fixed that problem. But now it seems that it's getting confused with music playing part. Is there a way to fix this?

Oh, nevermind. I Read another topic and found out a way to fix it. Thank God for support forums and everyone that helps out!

  • Music Video does not playback it looks like a white negative!!

Please please help...I have downloaded itunes7 and now I cant watch any of my new or old music video's...the music plays but the video looks like a white negative...you can make out the faint outline of people and things moving but nothing else??????????????
      Windows XP

I read a solution somewhere that worked for this music video problem, that was before i gave up on my music skipping and reverted back to i-Tunes 6 (so music no longer scratching but videos not working without delay/skipping.)
Anyway the solution was, Quit i-Tunes, select start menu -> control panels -> quick time. Click on advanced tab, uncheck box next to enable direct 3D video acceleraion and then open i-Tunes
    Hope that helps you

  • Imported AVI - Audio OK  - Video will not advance

Long time PP user. Running PP CS4 most current version. Captured DV video with PP CS4 is perfect (PCM Audio Codec; DVC/DV Video codec; 29.97 fps). Used Camtasia 6.01 to capture software training screen & mouse & audio tracks and save as 800 x600 AVI file (Audio codec 0x0055 MPEG-1 layer 3; Video codec tscc TechSmith). The audio & video codecs are installed properly per GSpot v2.70a. Computer is Pentium 4,3.2 GHz,4GB RAM. The Camtasia generated AVI files work fine in Camtasia and in Windows Media Players(9 & 11). When imported to Premiere Pro the audio plays just fine (from both preview and when placed in timeline sequence) - but in all instances (even post render & export) the video will flicker but not advance any frames. The computer is not locked up or frozen in any way. Problem occurs even when captured screencast is at 30 or 15 fps - so it doesn't seem to be an audio-video synchronization problem. It is almost as if the video is waiting for some permission/script/cue to allow the video to advance. In digging through clip properties, settings & project & timeline toggles & options I cannot find any switch that could be related to stopping/freezing the video. To determine whether it was Camtasia software I downloaded some well known other screencast programs and their AVI files (with Audio codec 0x0055 MPEG-2 layer 3; Video codec MP43 S-mpeg 4 verion 3) had the same problem when imported to PP CS4. Any suggestions would be extremely welcome. Thanks.

    Marc,
I ran into this problem just last week. Limit your exports from Camtasia to 3 minutes, 30 seconds or less and give it a try.
If your screen caps are longer than that, export them in chunks from C6.
    -Jeff
PS - One clue as to whether or not a given clip will exhibit the problem is in the Interpret Footage dialog. If the field order shows up as "unknown", then the clip will not play.
