Avi frame by frame, it doesn't play

Hi,
i'm on Mac Os X 10.7.1, with QuickTime Player X 10.1 and Perian 1.2.3. When i start an avi file with the Quick Look it plays normally, but with QuickTime Player every time i play, it goes forward 1 frame than it stops.
Any idea?

but I don't want to be beaten by it. The cinema is very impressed with what I have produced, it's just configuring everything to work on their system.
Ideally I would like to do what I wanted originally which is to produce a "trailer jukebox" where they select 4 trailers to play, as posed by my original posting. But that requires extra scripting and Final Cut Studio which I am daunted by the technical side of as I'm more a design person, and also the cost of the software. However I haven't ruled that out yet as this project could be reasonably lucrative for me as they would require updated DVD's once a month. Where we got to in the discussions with their technical manager was that if I couldn't do the scripting required, perhaps I could supply them with 5 or 6 disks with a variety of trailers on each disk that does't autoplay when inserted.
I agree with you that they must be able to configure their computer DVD player so that it doesn't auto run when a disk is inserted.

Final Cut pro doesn't play the frames

My final cut pro doesn't play the frames in the application.
The whole time it works great but at ones this happend.

Couple of things to check and try.
1) In Viewer Display options check to see whether Better Performance is checked in the Quality section. If not, check it and that should help you set real time playback with a slight reduction in quality in the Viewer. However, it will not have any affect on your project.
2) If that doesn't work, consider generating Proxy files by eight clicking clips >Transcode Media. There is also a setting in Viewer Display Options to use Proxy in editing your project. Before you export the finished project, remember to change that setting back to Original/Optimized.
3) If that doesn't work, download a speed test and check the throughput of your media drive. It should be a separate drive from your start up disk and should be connected by Thunderbolt (fastest) USN3 (next fastest) or Firewire 800.

Exporting as AVI 720x576 @ 25 frames per second

Hi, I would be grateful if someone could tell me how to export an iMovie 9 project as an AVI 720x576 @ 25 frames per second in the PAL format. When I click on the export as button I have a number of options but not this one. This is to be submitted to a TV station and they say that it must be in this format.

It can be done using the Share menu item in iMovie '09, but the AVI option doesn't appear to offer a size setting (as in 720 x 576). Follow these steps to at least get an AVI movie:
Share>Export using QuickTime>Movie to AVI>Options>Video-Settings>Frames per second: 25
I haven't tried this export method myself, so can't verify that it works - but at least it is a starting point.

Hi,
I've created the example of how to do it with media player ActiveX control. You just need to know the FPS of your movie to run it.
BUT it works not with all AVI files. I tested it with MPEG4 files and for some of them everything was OK, but for files created with DivX Codec this VI doesn't work. I think this is because of some compression methods included in different codecs.

Play .flv frame-by-frame

Hi All,
I was wondering if there is a player out there that is capable of playing flash video frame-by-frame. That is, in addition to a surub bar a forward and previous button should seek to next or previous frame on the flv video. Encoding all frames as key frames is not an good option I think.

-loaded flv's can only seek to keyframes. So the only way to
do it simply would be to encode your flv with a keyframe every
frame. This will make the file a lot larger though.
-you can get frame accurate control if you import the video
to a timeline - so it becomes a swf- at the expense of audio synch.
-other ways to do it might include making a bitmapdata
'buffer' of frames on an invisible play-ahead copy of the flv with
no sound (I'm guessing here... I've seen frame by frame done, and I
can't think of any other way of doing it). Perhaps others have
alternate approaches - I think this way (assuming it works) would
be quite complicated.

Crop Tool -- shortcut to advance to next frame since forward arrow doesn't work in crop tool?

As a pro, I crop all my photos.
I normally use the forward arrow to move through each image, but with the crop tool the forward arrow doesn't work for advancing to the next frame.
It only adjusts the crop.
This is extremely frustrating for me as it slows down my workflow.
Is there a one key shortcut, within the Crop Tool -- that permits us to move forward from frame to frame?
I wish the forward key worked for this within the crop tool!
Is there an easy answer or a way to format something in Lightroom -- so I can have a one-key method to advance frames within the Crop tool?

I just tested it on my Mac and it worked with the Command + arrow Key...
However, using two fingers for this shortcut is a little clumsy and uncomfortable...
I think there's a way to create your own keyboard shortcuts -- do you know how to do this, maybe assigning a single key which would be a little easier?

QuickTime Problem. Doesn't play video.avi.

I have updated the system up to the latest - Maverick. After that QuickTime Player doesn't play video.avi. I have tried restarting the app - worthless. Yet, it has been showing 'Converting' for 30 mins. Please, help!

1. Does it always take that long to convert a file (more than 30 mins)? It seems that it doesn't work. It stops at the beginning and than nothing changes.
2. Since when QuickTime needs convertation for avi? I thought this is a standart format.
3. How can I use QuickTime 7?

Most of the .mov and .AVI files doesn't play anymore with QT 7 or 10

I'm running OS 10.7.5 and most of the .mov files that were generated with Quicktime 7 doesn't play anymore, except in VLC.
I used QT7 because it can still crop and edit videos, instead of QT 10 that came with the system.
QT7 has a also a very nice feature that allow to reset the image ratio, which is sometime very usefull.
I shall say that videos came from a digital recorder I used to tape the TV and those files came as .AVI
Anyway, overnight (probably after an update of iTunes or any part of the system) QT 7 nor 10 can play those files anymore !
Each time I try to open a file with QT it says I need a codec, and leads to the DIVX download page, but installing this codec doesn't solve my problem.
QT7 was a very fine software and worked until now.
Why an update makes my system go backward ??!?
I'm a huge fan of Apple, but that is not acceptable !!!
It just makes me want to purchase on older mac and go back to 10.6 !!!

Hello. XBMC and MPlayer doesn't play .avi movies. I have the latest updates and are using mplayer 30325-1 from extra and XBMC xbmc 9.11-8 from community. Anyone else having the same problem?

Premiere Elements 13; the wheel mouse doesn't increase frame by frame but 11 frames by 11 frames.

With the buttons forward and backward we have frame by frame and also with the keyboard.
On the PE 13, before scrolling the Wheel, you have to activate the mouse by clicking in the free area beside the screen because in an another place you haven't an action of this Wheel.

I try to be clear because it is very hard to explain and incredible.
On these red points I go and place the pointer of the mouse following three different cases.
1 case : play pause and i click the mouse pointer on the red point ; at this time by scrolling the Wheel I increase or decrease the time code by steps of 11 frames.
2 case : play pause and i place the mouse pointer on the red point ; this time the steps are of 7 frames.
3 case : play pause, i click on the PE icon cercling in red, return on the red point and the steps become by 1 frame. Of course, it is not satisfying.
I have try by 25 frames per second and also 30 frames. From an european camcorder and an american one.
The same result in Expert mode than in Quick one.
"it is what it is" OK it is too bad because on the Premiere Elements 7, it was well working and very useful so now I'll work by the keyboard to decrease or increase frame by frame.

AVI doesn't play in JMS

Hello,
I created a Flash movie and exported it to AVI using Cinepak compression. However, when I view it in JMS, it opens, but doesn't play. I've tried the MOV format as well, but get a "failed to parse" error.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. All of my efforts have been uselss so far.

unable to handle video formats. If, OTOH, you are referring
to the Java Media Framework, note the acronym is jmF.

- Prepare a tiny version of the Flash movie that

but I am prepared to play around with your AVI/MOV and
see if anything interesting comes to light.)

I am not a computer savy person. I just need to plug in and have the machine do what it should do.
Not a problem, but that indicates you have a lot to learn.
File extensions like mpeg, mp4., avi, wmv, etc. are just wrappers. It is like a box the audio or video content is placed inside. The audio and video content must be encoded with a codec before it is placed in the box. There are thousands of codecs. Not all are installed on your Mac. You must have the same codec installed that encoded the video in order to play it. So, while Quicktime does support mpeg wrapper, it may not have the codecs to decode the internal video.
Some programs have lots of the codecs available to them, like VLC, Niceplayer, MPlayerX, etc.
You can also get "plug-ins" for Quicktime that add codecs to Quicktime, like Perian. Although it is no longer being developed, Perian still works well.
Why is it so difficult? Probably because they are always working on ways to compress the video to get better playback.

Script single button to play frames, then skip some, and continue play?

Just as the topic says, I want to script a button to go to
and play through a motion tween, but then skip some frames to then
play another motion tween all in one button press. For example,
play frame 1 which plays the tween and ends at frame 10 (I have
that part down fine) but then for it to skip ahead to continue to
play frame 20 and then of course stop once it finishes that motion
tween.
Tried a few searches but its too many words to explain so I
wasnt finding anything. Its probably a simple command im just not
familiar with yet. Can anyone help?

I probably should have been more specific. I cant add
anything to the timeline because I have multiple buttons using the
first tween, which is a fade out. Thats why I need a script to add
to each button only to play through that first common tween, and
then skip to play an individual tween set for each button. Like
button 1 goes through the first common tween, a fade out (plays
frames 41 - 53) and its individual tween is frames 54 - 66. This
works fine of course because the tweens are next to each other.
Button 2's individual tween starts on frame 67, so it needs to play
through the common tween fade (41 - 53) skip Button 1's frames, and
continue play on 67. These buttons are located on frame 1 (main
menu) so is it even possible to script a button to do such a thing?
I figured there would be but nothing im trying or seeing online is
working. Heh... does this make sense? :o
The only other way I know it will work is if I copy and paste
all the information in the layers before each section but that
causes me to have to push a lot of information further down the
timeline, kinda making a big mess and causing me to rescript all
frames there.

You only get the "This page uses frames, but your browser doesn't support them." text if either frames are disabled or you use a browser that doesn't support frames (the text is in a <noframes> </noframes> block). Firefox would display this text under normal conditions.
Note that the Menu object is IE only and doesn't work in Firefox. 
See the Browser Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer;Ctrl+Shift+J) for errors. 
The page source also shows red code for the map tag (start tag "map" seen in "table"). 
A lot of images seem to be missing or aren't loaded because of script errors.

Have you contacted app support or maybe view this video from the website? Are you trying to play them within the app itself? Did you double tap on the video that you want to watch?
