AVI glitches, color problems and tearing

Hey,
I've got a 640x480, 60fps avi that I am bringing into Premiere in order to add some titles, text etc. The codec used for compression is the Techsmith screen capture codec, the standard codec used when recording with Camtasia.
However in the preview window the video (within Premiere) is all screwed up- random portions of the screen remain well after the frame has changed, colors are warped and it just generally looks very glitchy. When I render out I get the same thing.
This video looks as it should in WMP and DIVX players. However the color of the video is slightly washed out when viewed with VLC.
Any idea what Premiere doesn't like about this avi?

OK. I thought that could be it, but for some reason I wasn't able to get Camtasia to record with any of the standard codecs. I guess I'll have to re-encode to get rid of it before bringing into Premiere.

    1.9ghz Athlon, 512MB RAM, 2x80GB hds, G4 ti4400 128MB card, SBLive Xgamer sound card. Win98SE OS.
Now that I've fixed my Mpeg2 capture in WinProducer 2 and WinDVR, I've still had a problem with raw AVI capture. Audio/video sync is usually off with programs like VirtualVCR, iuVCR and even Adobe Premiere 6 (when it recognizes the WDM drivers at all) irregardless of resolution/sound encoding.
However, http://www.virtualdub.org/">VirtualDub works perfectly... I've managed to record 720x480 uncompressed or lossless compressed (HuffyUV codec) video with 48khz stereo PCM sound, no sync or frame drop problems.
Hope this helps. Too bad FAT32 doesn't let me capture more than a few minutes of full video before it hits the 4 GB limit and WinXP is impractical for me to upgrade to.  :(

    A battery pull is recommended:
    1. Remove the battery while phone is turned on
    2. Wait a few seconds before inserting it again
    3. Allow the long boot up process to finish (takes a few minutes usually)
This clears most software issues that occur on blackberries from time to time. You could also use Quickpull, a free app that simulates a battery pull without physically removing the battery: http://software.crackberry.com/product.asp?id=27660
A battery pull reclaims memory lost during application usage and clears minor software errors that creep in over time. The blackberry runs an OS just like your PC runs windows and the battery pull is the equivalent of a reboot/restart on your computer.

  • Indesign RGB color problems and JPEG export

How do I get a bright red or bright lime green RGB jpeg to show properly on an InDesign page? I click on New Color Swatch, Color Mode: Web and select a web safe color, yet when I draw it on the page, the colors are incredibly dark and less saturated, like it's converting to CMYK colors.
Also, when exporting to jpeg the colors are still dark and less saturated, yet if I copy and paste each page from InDesign into Photoshop, the colors are bright and saturated as intended. Doing this for each page is out of the question for my project, since I need to convert 130 similar pages into Web-bright jpegs. The export to jpeg doesn't seem to work in my favor either. So what gives?
I tried changing color profiles, too, RGB set to sRGB and Adobe RGB 1998. CMYK set to SWOP No luck. Help!

Please post this question under its own topic with a subject line that
actually relates to the question. Include details, like how you're
converting TIF to JPG, *why* you're converting TIF to JPG (TIFFs work

  • Color problems in photoshop cs5 and bridge

Recently, whenever I open images in photoshop or view them in Bridge, they look desaturated. In Bridge, they load normal at first but after a couple of seconds, they become desaturated and I can't figure out what the problem is. I have all of the same color management settings as before, the only difference on my computer since the colors stopped working was that my computer installed windows updates. The images look fine when viewing them in the Windows viewer, and in other programs like ACDSee, etc. It only looks like this in Adobe programs. I checked in Bridge under Creative Suite color settings, and it is under North America General Purpose 2. In Photoshop, I checked color settings, and all of them are marked as convert to working rgb, cmyk, etc. Any suggestions?

The monitor color profile tells Photoshop and the other color managed programs how your monitor displays colors. Color profile files are installed by putting them in C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color. Then to assign or confirm a color profile for your monitor, you use the Color Management control panel. Under the Devices tab  when 'Use my settings for this device" is checked, the color profile currently in used is the one which name ends with (default). For example 'Dell U2410 color Profile, D650 (default)'.
You can download the color profile for you monitor from here http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?releaseid=R279694&formatcnt=0&libi d=0&fileid=413637
    http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?releaseid=R279694&formatcnt=0&libi d=0&fileid=413637
it downloads a .exe file which is simply a decompressor like .zip files. Run it, and in the folder you will find a file with the name DELL-U2410.icm - his is your monitor color profile from Dell. However most likely Windows has already installed it for you.
Now, given  your situation, you may have these eventual problems.
    First problem.
Your monitor is a wide gamut monitor 102% of NTSC and Windows defaults at sRGB which is about 70% fo NTSC. NTSC is a color space representing the visible spectrum and is used in monitor specs for measuring the gamut.
Assuming that for some time you didn't use a color profile which more closely represents your monitor, Photoshop was displaying images on your wide gamut monitor using the default sRGB color profile which represent standard gamut sRGB monitors and this is very different from yours. Said in other words you were seeing one thing on your monitor while Photoshop was assuming it is another thing. This becomes a problem when you convert from one color space to another and display or reproduce the image on other devices, and in your case when monitor profile is changed to a very different one. To fix this you have to assign your correct monitor profile to the images that were created with the wrong profile and then convert to a common color space like sRGB, AdobeRGB, etc. Assign and Convert to profiles are in the Edit menu.
    Second problem.
The color profile from Dell may not be representing correctly how your monitor displays colors. Dell creates a profile that is not measured to your particular unit but for what they assume is an average representation of the monitor's model. Using it, you depend entirely on luck. I have u2711 and I was very unlucky. If you are curious you can study my case which may be also very educational for you and will be able to see clearly the difference between the colors of my monitor and those the Dell color profile represents. Follow the same instructions above for downloading the color profile for your monitor but download the one for u2711 from here
    http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?releaseid=R247058&formatcnt=1&libi d=0&fileid=365277
then go to that web site from your link http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/icc_profiles.htm and download my color profile that I'm sharing there. It is 'Dell U2711 Spyder 3 + Color Eyes DP   User' once you have the color profiles files on you computer, go to this site http://www.iccview.de/content/view/3/7/lang,en/  , upload my monitor profile and the one from Dell and compare. That web site will give a 3D plot of two color spaces in a 3D viewer that you can navigate to see it from all sides (using the Ctrl, Shift navigates faster). The difference that you see made it impossible to create even simple images for the web using Photoshop. I convert from AdobeRGB to sRGB and when Photshop assumes that my monitor displays colors the way they are described in the Dell's profile, all detail in the shadows is eliminated and my images look like crap. I even got better results from creating a profile using this free software http://www.calibrize.com/ it uses the so call eyeometer relying on your eyes for feedback and although the colors were noticeably off, at least the shadow detail was preserved.
    Hope that helps

  • EPDF files failing to read on ADE reading software when they have Sidebar color graphics and text, how do we fix problem?

We have 2 different InDesign files not reading properly in ADE reader. Both files have sidebar color graphics and text in them. The one original file's EPDF was showing blank pages for all the page with the sidebars in it when opened in ADE (they are DRM wrapped). Pages that did not have the sidebar showed up fine. Our ebook distributor is telling us that we have to rasterize the file. We are working in InDesign 6 with Adobe Acrobat X Pro. We made JPEGS of each page and reimported into an InDesign file and exported to PDF and our ADE reader then showed the sidebar pages. The file is pretty large though and I have a full length book that has the same problem. What is the problem with our sidebars and what are better solutions than JPEGS for each page? Thanks.

I will give that a try, thank you.

FC/e supports only a few 'standards': DV (as from miniDV cams), HDV (from miniDV devices), AVCHD (from most devices) and with a little trick, described on my website AVCHD-light (720p, as from many compact-stills) ..
    done.
some Flips are supported by iMovie, which you can abuse as a converter tool.
but 'non video standard' (=read 'video' as 'in TV') formats, resolutions and codecs ...
    a) manual conversion = less convenient
    b) loss of 'quality', e.g. when you blow-up tiny 480x320/15fps into video..
FC/e is FC/pros lil' brother.. meant for a more.. adult workflow..
if you like to wrestle with multi-formats, stay with Windows/Magix/..

  • Color problems between Lr5 and other software

I can not see where to make adjustments to get the same tones between Lr and my other software: Photoshop, Irfanview, Windows Viewer ...
    My test conditions:
    My monitor is calibrated
... - Export Lr Jpeg quality 85% and also tests 16bit TIFF (sRGB, Adobe rgb and prophoto)
... - When exporting, I checked the "add to catalog" to view the same image in Lr.
Conclusion: Other software gives almost the same tones (some small differences due to the chosen color space) and Lr gives a much warmer picture (Raw or treated Jgeg reimported in the catalog). Will it have a preference of Lr to settle?
Note: the direct opening of RAW file in Photoshop with Camera Raw (same engine as Lr) without special settings, also gives a duller color different image, that directly Lr.
    What is the solution?

In general, any difference between Lightroom and other color managed software is indicative of a corrupt monitor profile. No idea about Irfanview, but Lightroom, Photoshop and Windows Photo Viewer should all display identically.
What they all do is convert from the source/document color space to the target color space, which for display is your monitor profile. The result should be identical - that is in fact the whole point of color management. But since the source space may be different the actual conversion itself may also be different. So one conversion may go bad but not others.
A difference between Library and Develop will have the same explanation (different source spaces; Library is Adobe RGB while Develop is linear ProPhoto).
It also happens that different applications react differently to a bad monitor profile. It may work in one application and fail in others.
Any software that is not color managed will simply display in the native monitor color space, which can be anything under the sun, so you can just ignore and disregard that. It won't be accurate anyway.
So the solution is to have a valid and healthy monitor profile. Then everything color managed will display identically (save for gamut differences, but in practice that only applies if you have a wide gamut monitor. With a standard monitor any source space will have equal or larger gamut than the monitor).
Some calibration software has been known to not follow specifications strictly at all times, so check for updated software. Or the profile can simply have become corrupt. It happens. A way to test this is to set sRGB as default monitor profile in the OS - or Adobe RGB if you have a wide gamut monitor - and see if the problem clears.

For the sake of clarity and to save people time, Todd is asking about the behaviour of the Patch tool when using it to repair the area next to the young lad's head.  Todd gets a blurred dark tone pretty much regardless of the options he uses.
IMO that's what I would expect to happen because of the close proximity of the other image elements i.e. the lad's neck and the strong lines of his shirt.  I would not choose to use the Patch tool in this situation.  Content Aware Fill makes a better stab at it.

I just download the recent trail version of Iworks and install it. The first document I opened it was ok. When I open the second one the problem appear again and stayed. Pls help

This behavior was described many times.
In every occurrence, the operating system was an uncompleted one resulting of the use of Software Update to update the operating system to 10.6.2, 10.6.3, 10.6.4, 10.6.5, 10.6.6, 10.6.7.
In such cases, the solace was to apply a combo updater.
As you are using 10.6.7, download and apply the combo 10.6.7 :

  • IMac 24' (nvidia) - Screen res. and color problems

    Hi all,
I just turned to Apple and OS X last week (former Windows and Linux user), and I bought myself a brand new 24' iMac (actually the most powerful configuration available).
But unfortunately my iMac does not work as expected. The screen resolution, even when turned to its maximum, is really poor. I cannot read characters and my eyes hurt after a few minutes. The color, even thought configured to Millions are more like 256 then 16 Millions...
By the way, the refresh rate button is not available
Any idea ? Should I return it to the Apple store ? Or, is there something I can do (such as installing drivers - as for Linux or Windows, or change something in the settings) ?
I am a brand new OS X user, so... thanks for your help and understanding.

    Hello Plastik1994
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
This simply fix should help your viewing pleasure.
    Open the Display Preference:
    1. Select the Display tab and make sure that the Resolution: is set to *1920 by 1200*
    2. Select the Color tab and uncheck the box *"Show profiles for this display only"* and select one of the RGB or sRGB profiles.
To be honest I'm not sure why the iMac Calibrated profile looks so bad or why Apple tries to hides those other profiles from us. You can try setting Display Profile's experiment by eye, but to get it perfect you will need to calibrate using professional calibration tools.
