Avi movies don't play in iDVD preview

Hi,
I have a problem with avi files playing in iDVD preview. I am using an iMac 2.16 OS 10.5 I created a new project in iDVD '08 and placed a avi movie in my project. When I press play to preview it woun't play. At work I have a mac pro OS 10.4 and I am using the same avi movies in iDVD '08 when I press play the movie does play. I burned it to a DVD and it played on my DVD player with no problems. Does anyone know why I'm having problems when I work from my iMac at home?

Why WMV QuickTime movies don't play?

Through e-mail I often receive WMV QuickTime movies. However they don't play in QuickTime even though I have QuickTime Pro installed. In order to watch them I resort to use Windows Media Player. I thought that QuickTime was an Apple product and QuickTime movies should play with it.

It is and they do. However, WMV is a proprietary product originated by Microsoft to replace their aging AVI file container about a decade ago. It is not a QT format and since it is proprietary is copyrighted so Apple cannot legally use their codecs. As to WMP, it is Microsoft's own player application and is showing it's age since Microsoft officially dropped all Mac support back in 2003. Flip4Mac now handles distribution of the current "universal" version of the QT component which allows most common WMV variants to be played in the QT player. If you wish to watch your videos in the QT Player, then you must download the Flip4Mac QT playback component which is free. However, if you wish to be able to convert WMV files to QT compatible files, then you must purchase additional components with Conversion from WMV to QT, Conversion QT to WMV, and Conversion of HD content each have their own price tier.

CineXplayer on the new iPad: why does my avi movie "trembles" while playing?

Hi all,
I just purchased the CineXPlayer from the app store because I wanted to play a few AVI movies on my new iPad. I am really disappointed because the app couldn't handle the very first avi movie I threw to it.
The same AVI movie plays fine on my iMac using VLC. In cineXPlayer, the movie "trembles" but the sound is ok. Can anyone suggest where the problem might be?
I have removed cineXplayer and on the lookout for a free app for my iPad. Any suggestions?

Movies don't play after updating ipad to iOS7

I have updated my iPad to iOS7 and now my movies in DPS don't work anymore!
Some movies work, some movies don't, Most of the ovies set on autoplay don't work.
Anyone with same problem, please help!

just tried one of the same ol‘ vids in a newly created folio (v27)... and it works like charm. autoplay, stop at last frame and don‘t allow to stop, all there and running well. just in my older folios the vid refuses to play. same file, same settings overlay settings ... going nutz over here!!!
ps: thx for the handbrake tip ghysie. got this one already and used it before,
but i prefer the media encoder from adobe giving me more flexibility...
and i still don‘t think it‘s an encoding issue...

AVI movies don't work

Hi,
After I upgraded Leopard, my .avi movies (which I think are divx) show up with a white screen and either white noise or no sound. My videos in iTunes work fine. But everything else that I didn't transfer isn't working. I have DivX Doctor II from a long time ago, but what (free) codec do I need to download to get this working again? Thanks.....

u need mpeg-4 files and put them in itunes from what i understand u have to take the avi into QT Pro and export to iPod which is .m4v which works on the iPod mpegs i'mtold its near hopeless to convert those straight to m4v files because for some reason they lose audio playback

Installed Lion a couple of weeks ago, went to play AVI files tonight and nothing plays. QT is just black. VLC looks like pixellated poo. Do I need to install something else? Is this a known issue? Any ideas?

I have QT 10.1. The installer for QT 7 says it can't install because v10.1 already exists. I don't have another version on my HD. I assume the version 7 version was replaced when Lion was installed.
I am using Perian 1.2.3. I have updated Flip4Mac 2.8.3.1, and VLC 1.1.11---- all the latest versions.

When ANY avi file plays, the screen is black. Some files give me a suuuuper dark rendition of the video and in the case of some .flv files, I can hear the audio, but with a black screen. Video I've downloaded; versions of my own DVD's that I have ripped with handbrake; ANY avi file.
I also can play .mov file I have shot of my kids, but .mov files of movies I have ripped do NOT play.
Any idea what is going on would be appreciated!!

Question Mark in Safari, Quicktime , Movies don't play, Mime settings

I get a question mark in QT, using Safari, and latest updates, while trying to play movies. I notice the QT preferences will not stay when I close preferences, especially mime settings. I tried re-install, tried latest updates, throwing away preferences files in User/Library/preferences. What's wrong. You would think that QT would work, but QT only works in Opera.

If you have no problems w/playing QT files while using Opera, then the problem could be w/Safari. You may wish to crosspost in the Safari Forums where the Safari users hang out so that they can see your issue & can possibly help you out. Sorry, I don't use that particular browser.
See if cleaning out the cache helps. That is the one thing I always here Safari users complain about.
Check QT Preferences>Advance.
Make sure "Enable Flash" is unchecked (disabled)
As for the QT MIME Settings not sticking, see if repairing permissions from your Tiger DVD helps.

30G movies don't play

Help! I downloaded the new software already. I can play music. I bought a movie from the iTunes store. It synced to my iPod. When I try to play it, it says "loading" goes to a black screen, then goes back to the titles menu. Any suggestions on making this movie work?

Check an songs you purchased from itunes... If they don't work either on your ipod, you have the same problem as me. You can try calling apple if you want but i did everything so far and none of it had worked. I'll get back to you when I figure it out

Old quicktime movies don't play, missing "fade in" file

When I try and open a quicktime movie that I created in imovie it tells me, it can't play movie because it's missing "fade in 04 file".
It makes me try and locate it but I can't find it.

How would you suggest saving project files for make DVDs later?
Usually the easiest is to simply keep the iMovie project. Buying an external hard disk helps make that possible.
Another method is to export back to the camera, then re-import the tape as needed. That will preserve most clips as clips. You won't be able to edit things like titles, however.
If the project will fit an a DVD, then burning the project directly to a DVD as a data file -- not going through iDVD -- lets you archive it in its original condition. When you want to use it again, you'll drag it back to your hard disk.
Exporting to a Full Quality movie works, but you lose the ability to edit the video without re-importing it to iMovie, and you lose the "clip-ness" of clips. It's an option to consider if it saves a lot of disk space, where the timeline movie is a lot shorter than the project audio and video. If the project doesn't use a lot of the video you imported, then exporting to a Full Quality movie may save considerable disk space.

Quicktime movie don't play automatically????

It used to be that when you open a movie after a few seconds of downloading it will start palying automatically but it does not happen with iWeb. I loaded the same movie into my new web page that I made with iWeb and you have to click on the start in order for the movie to play.
Anybody know why this is happening?

The Text Editor must be set to "plain" text before opening the file.
You must save the file with exactly the same name and avoid adding .txt to the file name.
If your page shows as text (lines of page code visible) I'll bet the file ends in .txt (something.html.txt). Remove the .txt from the file name and it should work.

QT movies don't play on QT for window

I use QT to export QT movies on iMac G5, post it on dotmac with iblog, tell my window friends to install QT. They all saw clips, till now. Suddenly, all of window users see all clips with no video, only audio. Image Sequence clips still work. I have them reinstall lastest version. Still no video. But I still can see clips successfully on my Mac.
Is this supposed to happen? All window users I know have same problem seeing my movies on my blog at the same time. Previously, everything worked as they should have. I don't have a clue.

AirPlaying avi movies to Apple TV

Let's try this one:
1. AVI movie file that plays in QuickTime - saved as reference movie file using QT 7 Pro
2. Reference file added to the iTunes library plays the avi movie in iTunes from it's original location without any problems
Can I AirPlay it to Apple TV?
If yes then I'm ready to buy Apple TV, if not then I'll go for WD player.
Anyone knows the answer?

all you have to do i when using vuze is right click, open file, using winrar hit first file when one file appears drag to itunes it will convert once converted, itunes will open and sync to library ,once complete have to click on movie file and hit tv in bottom box and apple tv appears on itunes screen will start playing back on tv thats how avi are played back on apple tv 2 the only problem im having is where is the <MY MOVIES> folder on the 2nd gen like first gen had

I am trying to create a disc of player highlights for a collegiate coach, and I am using movie files downloaded to my hard drive from a DVD created on a PC.

No unfortunately it won't open in quicktime either. It does the same thing that Imovie does, separates it into two file folders audio and video, and if i select video it opens to reveal 8 files that cannot be selected. VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB,VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VB, VTS_01_3.VOB. All of which cannot be opened or selected.
Opening it in Idvd and folllowing your suggestion works and I get a format code of NTSC. Is that the same? Thank you for your time and response.

There is also a good chance that the .avi is simply corrupt as often hapens with this format. I have often had .avis that simply will not open, no matter what program or converter you try using. It's a bummer, but being an older format, it is becoming more common.

IDVD autoplay movie won't play in DVD player

My IDVD movie won't play in a DVD player when created in autoplay mode. It plays fine on my computer both in preview and on my computer's DVD player program and it works fine if I create a menu and button, just not if I create it in autoplay mode. I've tried it on my work compter and three DVD players and it won't play in any of them. Can anyone help, please?

I used a 16x Maxwell DVD-R. The same kind of disc worked fine with the movie when I had a menu.
I'm afraid I don't know what a Patchburn is.
