Avi or mp4 to iTunes

I have downloaded some tv shows on my PC and now I want to move them to my Mac so I can put them on my iPhone to watch. But when I go to iTunes and then add to library nothing happens and when I try to play them right from my USB drive it say it cant be played because it could not read the file. What can I do to get them in to iTunes.
Thanks

right.
there are two versions of QT. there is QT 7 (i own a Pro license) and there is QT X (part of OS X 10.6.x)
in QT 7, you would open the video file and choose export from the file menu, then select e.g. the TV preset
( *click on image to enlarge* )
in QT X, you'd open the video file, then choose +save as+ from the file menu. unfortunately, i don't currently have an .avi file to test so i don't know what +save as+ options are available.

What are the file extensions of the movies that won't import to iTunes

    iTunes:
Video content purchased from the iTunes Store.
QuickTime and MPEG-4 movie files that end in ".mov", ".m4v", or ".mp4" and are playable in QuickTime Player.
    Video podcasts.
    iTunes Digital Copies.
iTunes Store Movie Rentals (Requires iTunes 9 or later).

  • Transfer AVI movie file to Itunes to upload to Ipod Touch

    Hi
Just got Ipod touch and have some movies/tv shows on desktop that I want to put to my ipod. Tried the Save file to library on itunes but nothing happens. Does anyone know how I can put these AVI files to my ipod touch.
Simple instructions appreciated, first ipod so still learning the ropes.

You need to find Windows software to convert .avi to .mp4 or .mov, then import that file into iTunes, then sync it.

  • Importing avi and mp4 files into iPhoto

I just finished importing my PC photo library into iPhoto and I ran into a snag.
iPhoto does not import video files in *.avi or *mp4 format.
On my old PC photo library, I have video clips taken into mostly avi format with older digital cameras, and which are stored in the same photo directories by date. When I realized that I could not sync avi files to my iOS devices, I used a conversion program to convert the the avi files to mp4 format, and was able to sync these to my iOS devices.
Now apparently iPhoto does not recognize these mp4 files. I would like to have my video clips in iPhoto so that I can sync them as needed to my iOS devices through iTunes and also sometimes use them for video editing in iMovie. Within iMovie, I see where there is a link to the iPhoto video library... so somehow I have to get these into a format recognized by iPhoto.
Can anyone recommend a method that will accomplish this? I assume I will have to convert the avi/mp4 files to some other format. Is there a utility that will extract out the video files from my hundreds of photo directories and let me convert them to the accepted format by iPhoto, preferably keeping the time/date stamp intact?

Check over on MacUpdate for file converters.

  • CCK Imports AVIs - why won't iTunes transfer them?

I think the iPad supports AVIs but I'm not sure why iTunes won't sync them. If I use the camera connection kit and transfer photo's and videos from my Canon camera, the AVI videos play fine. But, there is a problem with those same AVI files if you sync them into iPhoto with either the camera to your computer, or syncing them from the iPad after import.
Once those files are in your computer, they will not sync back to the iPad unless you convert them. Why Apple, why? I take a lot of pictures and video of my family in both AVI format and 720p MP4 on my Sanyo. They both play fine when imported from the CCK, but when trying to import from my computer, FAIL.
Look, it is a major pain in the butt to come back from vacation with 200 pictures and videos that you weed through in iPhoto. Then you have to turn around and convert 50 of the videos, pull the original videos out of iPhoto and replace with the converted videos so that you can then sync them to your iPad to show friends and family. And when you convert them, the videos lose their time stamp, so now the whole thing is out of order. I waste so much time with this because there is no good workflow.
If the AVI and MP4 (baseline) videos will play with the CCK, then why won't they transfer with iTunes. Does anyone have any ideas for this pain?
Does anyone know a way around this?

I only started using iTunes match so I could get some of my music to play inside an app (Zombies run).
Now I seem to be having all sorts of problems with music I KNOW I paid for, but will not sync, and iTunes "can't find the license". Some of this music was downloaded through non-iTunes sites (paid), and some was ripped from CDs that I own. It seems I have to re-rip from the CDs now...
Also -- I have recordings of conference audios. These will not be available in the cloud, because they are not publicly distributed. According to this thread, I will no longer be able to sync these recordings in order to listen to them on my iPod touch.
Some of my playlists will not upload at all, because they supposedly contain things that "are not music". What these things are, who knows, because i don't see anything but music.
I'm also getting mysterious symbols ... dotted circles, exclamation marks in circles ... no idea what these mean. (So much for the intuitive interface.)
I'm actually rather sorry I put Match in place ... solved one small problem and caused a bunch of bigger new ones. Plus is taking a huge amount of time to figure out what is going on and address the issues.

  • How do I convert a photo booth file to an AVI or MP4?

How do I convert a photo booth file to an AVI or MP4?
I tried exporting the file from Quick Time to my desktop, but the file extension reads as .m4v - is that compatible with other pc?

The M4V format is a video file format developed by Apple and is very close to the MP4 format. The differences are the optional Apple's DRM copyright protection, and the treatment of AC3 (Dolby Digital) audio which is not standardized for the MP4 container.
If your M4V video is not unprotected M4V files and without AC3 audio. It may be recognized and played by other video players by changing the file extension from ".m4v" to "mp4".
So you can try to change the file extension and check if it works. If it doesn't work, try Leawo video converter(for windows or mac) and convert m4v to mp4 format.

  • WiFi connection crashed when play mp4 from iTunes to Apple TV

    Hi,
My macbook pro is 2011 early with Yosemite and the apple tv is 3
both of their updates are up to date.
When I played a mp4 from itunes to apple tv, the performance was poor and always disconnected easily and the WiFi connection crashed, I need to restart my access point to recover the connection.
I used my iPhone 6 to play the mp4 in my mac, also the same situation.
but It worked well with Mavericks.
Does anyone have the same issue?

iTunes Match is available now. You can sign up from your computer and then, on your Apple TV, you can turn iTunes Match on to listen to your iCloud library from the Apple TV.

  • Bad performance of video convertion from .avi to .mp4

I use QT Pro v7.0.3 to convert avi video to mp4. The mp4 quality is bad. I am unsure if mp4 movie is bad in quality or QT Pro is bad in convertion. As iPod selects to support mp4 video, the quality should be of an acceptable one, otherwise, it just damages iPod reputation. It is my first time to watch mp4 video but the impression is not to bother at all - worse than vCD. Is there any one using mp4 video? Any comments!
    Thanks,
    Ray

I set my QT avi to mp4 conversion to 2500 kbits/sec, current image size, current frame rate, and it's still worse than the original avi. FAR worse.
I've given up on encoding my avi's to play from my iPod. It just stinks, so I'm not sure what to tell ya... just that you are not alone in your observation. They look OK for play on the iPod, but playing from the iPod to anything else, like say a TV, it's not worth it. It seems to be better to just play the avi via some other means on the TV, because the conversion is seriously sub par.

  • Ffmpeg avi to mp4 issues

I'm trying to convert a video (Choke) from avi to mp4 format so that I can put it on my old 5G ipod video.
    ffmpeg -i /home/wes/Videos/Choke/Choke.avi -s qvga /homa/wes/Videos/Choke/Choke.mp4
    returns
    [mpeg4 @ 0x83580a0]timebase not supported by mpeg 4 standard
Error while opening codec for output stream #0.0 - maybe incorrect parameters such as bit_rate, rate, width or height
I thought that should work, but I've been wrong before so I look around the wiki and the aur.  I tried furiusconverter from the AUR and got similar errors. Avidemux doesn't work either. I'm getting really frustrated since from what I understand this should be working flawlessly. So I turn to the wiki and I find some code:
    ffmpeg -vcodec xvid -b 300 -qmin 3 -qmax 5 -bufsize 4096 \
    -g 300 -acodec aac -ab 96 -i INPUT -s 320x240 \
    -aspect 4:3 output.mp4
I got some errors pertaining to the bit rate that went away when I changed "-b 300" to "-b 300k" and "-ab 96" to "-ab 96k".  There were also problems with "-vcodec" and how "xvid" was not recognized so I just got rid of "-vcodec xvid" but then I got the first error I posted.
The wiki also had this to offer: http://thomer.com/howtos/mp4ize
but after making it into "Converter.sh" and chmodding it (777) and running it I got another error.  This error may have something to do with my not having Ruby installed but I think I do so it shouldn't be a problem.
Does anyone know if I'm doing something wrong, how I can fix it, or any bit of wisdom?
    On the fringe,
    --Wes
    EDIT:
So I installed Ruby (stupid of me not to check) and tried the code in the link above again. It seems like it's working and we'll see in a while if it did or not, but I'm still really curious why ffmpeg isn't working for me.  Can some one please tell me what I'm doing wrong with ffmpeg so that I don't have to keep using this homebrewed script?

Set frame size. The format is wxh (ffserver default = 160x128, ffmpeg default = same as
source).  The following abbreviations are recognized:
               qvga
                   320x240
i'd try it as simply ffmpeg -i file.avi file.mp4 and see if it works.  maybe that size is just not supported by mp4

  • QT 7.5.5 AVI to MP4?

    Hello
I have converted a AVI to MP4 via QT and there's no sound at all after conversion and why is this?
Do I just go back and use VH as usual or is there a way around this
    Thanks

What was the audio codec (and video for that matter) in the source file? DO you have Perian installed? If not a good idea.

  • Mp4 QuickTime/iTunes AC3 5.1

Hi, I just convert 300 DVDs to Mp4 with AC3 5.1 with Nero Recode 2, the problem is I have NO sound and thats because QuickTime dont support AC3 5.1
Can some one please help me, I need to play those Mp4 in iTunes, I don´t care if those Mp4 plays in 2 channels or 5.1, what I need is to heard the sound of the movies
Does the QuickTime PRO can fix this issue? or do I need some plug-in or something
    Thanks in advance

    Hey
Quicktime Pro will not solve this problem.
There a re a couple of codecs for AC3 around that allow quicktime and programs that use it to play AC3.
This link is to one. (A52 being the other name for AC3)
    http://trac.cod3r.com/a52codec/
Alternatively use VLC player, although will not allow itunes to play.
An app that is really useful to me is mAC3dec 1.6.3 f. This splits AC3 files into seperate audio files which you can add to a quicktime file.
    Here is the link
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/14479
For this number of movies however we are talking weeks of re-encoding and copy paste.( also will not work if above codec is installed.)
Hope that gives you plenty to think about.

  • Stitching together AVI or MP4 files

Does anyone know of any programs that will allow you to stitch together several avi or mp4 video files?
Meaning allowing one to play right after the other.
    Thanks.

Can you drag all of the file to iMovie and make a sequence out of it? And save as QT after that?
    Try this one:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/visualhub.html
And you can burn to DVD after it done encoding those files.
I found it worth every penny I spend on it.
    Good Luck.

  • AVI or MP4 full of jitter after export

    Hi,
I've been working on iMovie 11 v9.0.4 build for a couple of days now and it seems completely impossible to export to a stable final avi or mp4. The imported files are fine in HD and look perfect when viewed withing the project in iMovie. But whatever format I try to build or filetime it jitters like crazy, and I'm starting to go crazy!!!
    Any ideas are welcomed
    cheers,

The song is at 44.1khz and some additional audio at the beginning and end is at 48khz. I exported the audio out through Final Cut separately at 48khz and then reimported that audio over the sequence and while it worked on the timeline, again upon export it drifted out of sync.
Is there an easier way I can resample the audio in FCP? Or do I have to import it into Soundtrack? The sequence settings are at 48khz.
    Thanks.
