AVI Screen capture software

A while back someone was looking for screen capture software. I found this free software which works rather well.
http://www.bobyte.com/

I use both CamStudio and Microsoft's Community Clips.  Both are freeware, and I've had no problem with the quality of the video.
File size is more of an issue -- both applications default to autoadjusting settings during recording to try to maintain the best quality, and I've seen a lot of variance with the file size in the end.  Community Clips isn't very configurable (what you can configure has to be done by editing a profile for Windows Media Encoder) and I haven't been tremendously successful with changing options in CamStudio to limit file size while still maintaining quality.
I've been more successful by paying attention to factors outside of the actual capture software:
1. Use a lower resolution on my monitor while capturing.  (When I'm working, I like it up at 1920x1200, but turn it much lower for capturing.)
2. Turn the color scheme down to 16-bit.  (Not a big deal when I'm recording podcasts of programming examples, etc.)
3. Capture in region mode or application mode, rather than full desktop.
4. I tend to capture short segments, then put them together in PE.  That way, I can easily re-record a segment and try adjusting it with some small tweaks.
I've only been doing this for a month or so, but these applications have worked pretty well for me for producing content at work.

  • Screen capture software?

My job just became more mobile so they bought me this new
souped up laptop to handle my new challenges...I've always used
Roboscreencapture as my screenshot utility (more versatile than the
Captivate screenshot solution), however it's not only discontinued,
but seemingly no longer available anywhere even as free-ware....So
that brings me to my question - What are you using as a screenshot
solution, for when Captivate's screen-capture utility will not do?
If you're aware of a decent freeware solution for a temporary
    basis, please share...

    Much more.
Personally, I'm very fond of TechSmith's "SnagIt". But it
will set you back about $40. The up side is that it's totally worth
    it.

I can vouch for both those suggestions :)

  • Video Screen Capture Software

Does anyone have any advice on their favorite screen capture software? I've done some searches and seen reference to a few types (iShowU, CaptureIt!, ScreenFlow, etc.). There are a bunch of options and I'm not stoked with SnapZ Pro, which I had been using before.
Is there a consensus on the best program or is it more of a favorite flavor thing?
    Thanks,
    Stef

iShowU can do pretty well everything and anything.

  • Video Screen Capture Software and FCP

I am shooting a video and need to incorporate some video screen capture software. There will be an audio overlay, so I do not need to record audio simultaneously while recording. I will be encoding with H.264.
    What should I use?
    Thank You!

iShowU and ScreenFlow are too very popular capture utilities.
    I prefer the latter.

  • What screen capture software is available to Mac users?

I'm considering buying a Mac to produce online presentations.
I've seen screen capture software from Camtassia and Screenflow.
Camtassia seems most popular with PC community but what do they (we currently) know?
I've heard that there's a screen capture tool within Mountain Lion is that true?

Thanks Grant. It sounds as though I can safely buy a Mac without worrying about software

  • Looking for good screen capture software

I'm helping re-do part of our campus website and I'd like to do some tutorials that involve screen captures and videos much like the Apple "How To" videos for the iPods and Mac OSX.
Do any of you have any recommendations? I've seen a program called MacCapture for $29 but wanted to see if anyone has either used it, or has a better recommendation.
    Thanks!
    JG

I like SnapzPro the best for this purpose.

  • Any iPhone 3G screen capturing software avilable?

NO! I dont mean capturing a still image! I mean I want to to be able to control and see the iPhone screen om my computer and record what I do as a video file. Like what you see on some iPhone training videos.
    thanx.

cerealz - known issue when upgrading to 3.0.
3.1.2 seems to have fixed it, but it wipes out wifi connectivity. See this thread:

Over 1300 posts with same problem. I think I might have found a $.99 fix at another discussion board. (There are multiple discussions out there !!) See page 89 of above mentioned thread - see my post at end.

  • Screen captures (.avi) appear black in Premiere Pro 2.0

I have been using two screen capture programs: HyperCam2 and Camtasia to create .avi files. I have been importing the .avi files into Premiere Pro 2.0, and then editing the avi content. This process worked well.
Recently, the .avi screen captures that I have importing into Premiere Pro 2.0 appear black although the same .avi files play properly in any media player that supports .avi files.
Can anyone tell me what has changed, or how to correct this problem?

That is LIKELY a codec problem... where you have installed something new, which included a codec, and that install process told Windoze via the Registry something like "put my codec in 1st place" and doing that now causes your old codec to be a lower priority... and your files don't work properly

  • How to Get Proper Video Screen Captures (Screencasts) of Lightroom or Photoshop in Win?

Hello. I would like to get proper screen captures of Lightroom on Win 7/64, showing all screen elements as you see them. I tried FastStone Capture 8 and SnagIt 11.1, but they have various differing issues. Do you have a good hint?
In my screen capture, i want a mouse-click-sound each and every time the mouse is clicked. This is not "system audio", because the computer doesn't play a sound for every ordinary click. The capture software must add that sound. (I'm aware i can add the sound manually in post production, but want it recorded together with video.)
Experience with Faststone Capture 8's video captures:
    I get well usable footage
Does optionally record mouse-click-sound for each click, with adjustable volume
Does not properly record some elements of Photoshop or Lightroom screens:
    - cursors sometimes look rough or double-sized
    - Lightrooms "TAT (Target Correction Tool)" disappears while being dragged on the image
    - the color selector box of Lightroom's Adjustment Brush is not shown, while the cursor working within that color selector box is shown
    - Lightroom's three-second-splash-message after Undo etc. is not shown
(All these missing elements do show up in *still* captures with Faststone Capture. They also *do* show up in video captures done with SnagIt.)
Experience with Snagit 11.1's video captures:
Does properly capture all those elements that FastStone does *not* capture (listed above)
Does *not* optionally include a mouse-click-sound for each and every mouse click (they record "system audio", but a sound on every click is not "system audio")
Videos are less smooth, cursor sometimes "jumping"
Now do you know a screen capture software for Win 7 that can
properly record *anything* that's seen within Lightroom and Photoshop
and automatically add a mouse-click-sound for each and every click i do
and produce smooth footage without "jumping cursors"?
    Thanks for your real-life experiences!

Hi, thanks for your suggestions. Now i also tried:
    Camstudio:
    - mouse click sounds very weird (my mistake?), does NOT record LR overlays like adjustment brush's colour selector
    Screen-cast-o-matic, optionally online, free:
    - DOES record overlays like adjustment brush's colour selector. Mouse-click-sound not in free version. "System audio" is promised in paid version, but that does not necessarily mean a sound for each mouse-click. Contacted support for more
Straightforward using, lots of short video tutorials (useful for absolute beginners).
Free downloaded program 1.4 only works on primary monitor, the online launched app also records on secondary monitor
Don't see option to record a "window", only set resolutions
    More "jumpy" than Faststone
More interesting pro-version seems to be rent-only-licenced, at 15 USD per year, not a one-time-buy
    Camtasia:
DOES record overlays like adjustment brush's colour selector
.camrec format isn't offered for recording, only .trec and .avi (on Win 7)
Exported MP4 looks blurry and has colour blotches, that are not visible in the initial recording, only after exporting; this doesn't change at all after setting very high quality MP4 options; i guess i didn't look properly

Myles, thanks again, here are my findings with Camtasia:
    Camtasia:
DOES record overlays like adjustment brush's colour selector
.camrec format isn't offered for recording, only .trec and .avi (on Win 7), but trec is usable just as .camrec i guess
Exported MP4 looks blurry and has colour blotches, that are not visible in the initial recording, only after exporting; this doesn't change at all after setting very high quality MP4 options; i guess i didn't look properly
i see how to add mouse-click sounds; i don't like the sound they provide so much; maybe it can be exchanged.
    Other tests:

mouse click sounds very weird (my mistake?)
does NOT record LR overlays like adjustment brush's colour selector

  • Can Microsoft add a screen recording software in the next update

Apple has screen recording software on it when you get it. Can Microsoft do this to? It will promote more gamers to use it and more people who use Youtube to post videos.

Apple has a great screen capture software downloaded on the computer for you,  completely free! To by that same screen capture software for
Windows is about thirty dollars. Microsoft add a free screen recorder in the next update. This will put
Microsoft up above Apple. Think about it. More gaming is done on Microsoft computers than on
Apples. This will promote even more people to use Microsoft
and will allow more gamers and people who have Youtube channels to use Microsoft computers. I want a safe screen capture software that is easy-to-use and reliable.

  • Best screen capture for using with premiere elements?

i have been scouring the net to figure out how to get better results than what i'm getting with the camstudio (love the program, and it looks great until i pull it into premiere). I have read that it can be a codec issue or an fps issue, but before i follow those trails, i was wondering if there is a screen capture software that works well with premiere, without a lot of hassle. (not necessarily free, just reliable and hassle free with good quality in premiere elements) Anyone have experience with this?
    thanks in advance!

Chuck Engels is really the expert on both those program though. You can find him on the Muvipix forum daily.

Would you please provide an update to the process of screen capture?  What does muvipix.com and lynda.com use?  I'm considering a project where my granddaughters create a couple of training videos for kids.  It's a dream, but might work!

  • What is best screen capture for video to be edited in FCP?

    Hello:
I need to add some video from a client's website to include in a video being edited in ye olde FCP 7.
The rest of the video is ProRes 422.
Is there a screen capture software package that can capture in a compatible format and be high resolution enough?
I have looked at ScreenFlow and Camtasia for Mac but they don't have much info on their sites about video specs.
Client wants to capture a webcast and show the video in context of the website it plays on.
I could just shoot the screen with my HD camera but I'm hoping there is something better out there.
Oh - and yes... I have thought of cheating it.... superimposing the original video into a screen grab of the website but the client doesn't have the original video.
    Thanks for any info.

I've been using Camtasia recently and there's a 30 day trial
    http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.html?gclid=Cj0KEQjw6J2eBRCpqaW0857k9p4BEiQAWar YbCmQ3HIjSWIUtIo6lldJhPTa488h8EmZlSh6hpLHdHIaAqYQ8P8HAQ
And you can record the entire screen or choose just a smaller area.  Great for capturing video on a website

  • Screen Capture Video Loses Quality When Imported Into iMovie - WHY?

I am using screen capture software to make a video of my screen at 1024x768. The video is for a tutorial. I want to use iMove to get things like transitions and such into the movie, and to add text and audio. The problem is that, although the video looks great in QuickTime, it loses quality significanly when I import into iMove. The text on the screen is blurry, and the quality of everything else is terrible as well.
Is this s limitation of iMove? Can screen capture video be imported? Does it only work with DV?
Also, I tried to convert the file to many other formats, from QuickTime to MPEG-4, so it's not the file type.
If anyone can help me out, I've be very grateful.
    Thanks!
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Your dimensions are getting in the way. iMovie converts your 1024X768 to a DV Stream file that is 720X480.
One workaround would be to set your display resolution smaller. Try 800X600 (if your windows fit that size).
If you're using Snapz Pro you should set your window capture to 640X480. This size will import nicely into iMovie.
An even better way would be to do all of the work using QuickTime Pro. Again a 1024X768 QT.mov file would not fit on the most common display settings used. When you add the QT Player window the controller would be below the screen and not accessible for most users.
800X600 would make a better file (smaller, too). It would still be 4:3 aspect and would also import into iMovie.
