AVI to WMV

Hi wonder if anyone can help. i invested in QTpro so i could edit AVI files. But when i export from AVI to WMV the file is cut to nearly half the running time. for example a 36 sec AVI exported to WMV comes out at 19 secs ...losing the following 17 secs??? any ideas on where i'm going wrong??? help would be much appreciated

QT does not export wmv files natively. You must have installed one of the flip4mac plugins if you are even getting the demo output of one half the source file. To export the entire file you will have to pay for a registered version of the plugin. More info on the process and the prices is available here:

  • How can I convert the projects files (*.prel) to a AVI or WMV format? Is that possible?

I'm actually using Adobe Premiere Elements 10.

There is no "Publish+Share" in Premiere Elements 10. Publish+Share/ is the Premiere Elements 11 and 12 counterpart of Premiere Elements 10's Share/.
If you have established your Premiere Elements 10 (assumed Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit) Timeline, you can export that to an .avi file and .wmv file and many other formats from the Share area. Remember, .avi and .wmv are just file extensions that wrap the video and audio compression, so, when deciding on export choices, good to keep in mind all the properties that you seek for your export. All that being said...
    General idea....
    For avi file...
    Share
    Computer
    AVI
and then you set for the appropriate Presets.=
    For .wmv file
    Share
    Computer
    Windows Media
and then you set for the appropriate Presets =
I suspect what generated your question was that you are not seeing the AVI and Windows Media choices under Share/Computer/.
If that is so, you need to use the thin scroll bar to the right of the choices and scroll down to AVI and Windows Media to see them
and others toward the bottom of the list there.
Please review and consider. Any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thank you.

  • Premiere Elements 10 MAC OSX, can't export to AVI or WMV and Crashes everytime

I recently bought Adobe Premiere Elements 10 3 days ago, instead of FCPX because of pricing issues (Difference around 175€). This App, since i have installed it, keeps crashing every time, with simple actions like split a clip, adding a effects, using subtitles, etc. A video editing app that only exports to wmv or avi on pc version is shameful. I can't even use flip for mac to export to wmv... witch is one of the most used file extensions around the world as well as AVI. This information is not shared on the app store, and i found it later on forums and on adobe website. I am not happy at all and I wish to have my money back. Since i bought it on the Apple App Store, they told me to talk directly to adobe.
    The order number is: MH3SJK7FDJ
    Waiting for your response
    Regards
    Martim Durão

    Martime,
If you have purchased Premiere Elements, within 30 days, then Adobe offers a full, money-back guarantee, and all you will have to do is contact Adobe with your S/N and invoice info, to return the program for a full refund. Just do not let the 30 days pass.
As for the Supported Export File Formats, see this Adobe KB Article. Note the "Windows Only" besides AVI and WMV.
Now, many Mac-users have had good luck with Flip4Mac, regarding WMV files. Not sure why that is not working for you. Most of those users are on PrPro, but I would not think that would make a real difference, but could be wrong there?
    Good luck,

  • How to convert mov to avi or wmv

    Hello,
I just caught a short 30 second clip of my son crawling for the first time with my Canon camera. I want to send the video to my Mom via email however the file is too big. Her computer does not play mp4, which is the only conversion option I found, and walking her through installing a compatible player is useless. So I would like to find out how to convert the mov file to avi or wmv, small enough to email. I just purchased Premiere Elements 10 and never used it. I could not figure out how to do it, so if anybody knows, that would be great.
    Thanks.

  • Exporting fla to avi or wmv on a Mac

I just completed my first Flash animation using Flash CS3 on
a Mac. I need to deliver it as either a avi or wmv file. Can
someone please help me with this. Do I need an intermediate piece
    of software?
    Thanks

I have that SAME exact question. I've output .fla to
Quicktime .mov (with no compression) and the software it's
ultimately going to for NTSC/broadcast use (Velocity) plays it
triple time or something. AVI files it can evidently handle. How do
I provide AVI? (And yes - I'm on a Mac. Seems the PC version offers
    AVI option.)

  • Safari shuts down on Streaming Video (AVI or WMV)

Any time I go to a site that have streaming video (other than YouTube), Safari and Foxfire will lock up and shut down. It seems to happen when the video being streamed is an AVI or WMV file. I didn't have this problem with earlier versions of Mac OS. It would just go to the page and sit there and I could go back a page, now it locks up and shuts down. Anyone else having this problem?

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
YouTube streams video using the Flash plugin. Try uninstalling then reinstalling a new copy of the Flash Player plugin.
    Uninstall Flash
    Install Flash
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*

  • Lion won't play .avi or .wmv correctly

I installed Lion yesterday, and suddenly Quicktime can't play the video part of .avi or .wmv files (it can still play the audio). I re-installed Flip4Mac but that didn't fix it. VLC still works, but now I can't view the files in Safari b/c Quicktime is responsible for playing them there.
Any advice on what to do?
    Thanks!
Edit: I also re-installed Perian, no changes.

Normaly QuickTime doesn't support AVI or DVIX out of the box,
you need to install some plugins.
but as we all have done an upgrade to lion these plugins aren't compatible with LION ANYMORE.
they'll bring an update asap I suppose.
but in the mean time download this app: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
    It's called vlc player.
It's available on every platform, support airplay plugins, and every fileformat is support cause it's an open source project.
ps: it supports subtittles as you want and .MKV video's aswell.
it uses a lot less Memory then quicktime while watching a AVI movie or 720 p or above.

.mods are (somekind of) mpegs ...
At first I though he was talking about the ancient audio .mod files:
"The first version of the format was created by Karsten Obarski for use in the Soundtracker tracker released for the Amiga computer in 1987".

  • AVI or WMV

how would i beable to play AVI and WMV in quicktime. ive been trying to get the answer so i can change these files to an ipod format any help would be great.

QT does not read wmv files so you would have to use some other software to first convert it to a format QT can read. QT does read avi files but does not come with a lot of the codecs people use for avi files. If you have a Video for Windows codec for the avi format you could open it with this freeware Windows program and export it to uncompressed avi for QT to then convert. VirtualDub
You may also be able to use this freeware WIndows program to make iPod videos. I haven't used it myself but other posters have stated that it works with some formats.

  • Can you get an iMac to play .AVI or .WMV video?

I can't find a list of supported codecs on Apple. I have a ton of video files in .AVI and .WMV formats. I don't want to spend days converting to Quicktime to be able to share video clips with a friend who owns a Mac.  My camera shoots in .AVI.
I've been thinking about getting  a Mac, but would that mean any video I shoot in the future is automatically incompatible with Mac? This would seem to be a common format (the .AVI), anyone know why it's not compatible?
Any ideas on how to work around this problem? Thanks
    answered--thanks

Perian or Flip4Mac can handle some but not all files of those types. AVI is a container, not a format, and therefore nothing is assured of opening all AVIs. Some WMV files contain DRM and can't be used in Mac OS X.

  • Problem exporting AVI to WMV in Quicktime.

So I am putting together a powerpoint presentation for school but they have Vista computers, and my quicktime movie files and AVI files will not work because the school does not have quicktime on its computers. The only exported file through Quicktime that has worked is a WMV. However, somehow through the exportation process, the last half of the video gets cut off between being an AVI and going to a WMV.
What can I do to fix this?

Okay QuicktimeKirk. I found the problem, just not how to solve it. I looked through the guide and everything and nothing makes sense and i need these videos for a presentation tomorrow so I'm freaking out a little.
Here's the deal, I am on my vid, here are my steps:
    File>Export
Next to the Export dialog box, I pick Options...
On this page, the top says Flip4Mac Export Settings - Demo Version.
So, you were right, the problem is I have the demo version. But how do I change this page to go from Flip4Mac Export Settings - Demo Version TO Flip4Mac Studio Export Settings?
I downloaded everything to my computer, entered the serial number, and installed everything.
What is the next step to fix this mess?

  • Main SWF that calls other SWFs convert to .mov, .avi, or .wmv

I have a SWF demo that calls multiple SWF files & 3 FLV files. I want to upload this to Facebook as one file - .mov, .avi, .wmv - whatever works.
Does anyone know how I can do this?
    Thanks in advance.

I don't know if facebook supports all those files as they are right now, because making them all one mov is very hard. You will have to import all of them in one flash file and place everything on the main timeline (to export as video file from flash) you need every animation placed on the main timeline. And that will be very hard to import all of them and then rebuilding all together so they work properly.
One other solution would be to open your demo, use a video recording software as Camtasia (maybe you can find a free one) to record all of that content then mask the unwanted parts and exporting all as one video file.

  • Viewing avi and wmv files with QT 10.1 and OS 10.7.4

In the last couple days, I think since I installed the last upgrade in the OS, my QT is 'unable to complete the process' of opening wmv files.
Months ago, I think after I upgraded to Lion, QT stopped allowing me to view avi files.  The file opens, and I can scroll through the content, but to 'play' button doesn't work.  I can still view those files using DivX Player 8.2.2.
These are all files that used to work just fine with QT.  Is there anything I can do to restore this functionality to QT?

Use only QT 7 for those.
Download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac and operating system, of:
Flip4Mac WMV Player from  http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm  (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from  http://perian.org/
You should read this support page  http://perian.org/#support   in case you need to delete older codecs.  In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them), particularly any DivX extension to Safari. However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from  http://www.divx.com/en/software/mac

  • FLIP AVI and WMV files

FLIP is a new tiny pocket camcorder that produces good 640x480. It has software that places its videos on your computer as WMV or AVI files. The latter will not open in Premiere Elements 7, although earlier avi's did. What am I doing wrong? I believe the WMVs will open but am not sure. Does anybody have experience with Flip?
    Edwin M

AVI is but a wrapper. It can contain all sorts of CODEC's. I recommend G-Spot (www.headbands.com/gspot) to see what is inside. Maybe some users of Flip can tell you, but G-Spot is invaluable.
