AVI with DIVX compression

Hi,
Is it possible to get an AVI with DIVX compression out of Premiere or Media Encoder (CS6)? I have a client who's 'in house' screen system requires this format.
Thanks

  • Unable to play .avi with Cinepak compression with Quicktime

I have multiple short .avi files that were created with a Cinepak compression. Before upgrading to Leopard, I had no problem playing these clips. After upgrading to Leopard, when I tried to view the clips through Quicktime, I receive the error "The movie could not be opened . Operation could not be completed. (OSStatus error -1.)". I was able to view the clips with iMovie '08, but when I tried to compile the movie and send the clips to either a .mov or .avi format from iMovie, I just got a blank screen. I assume that I am missing an important codec. Any suggestions?

  • AMC export avi with no compression takes AGES!  across network

    Heres one for the pro's
Im having some really anoying slow behavior with premiere and media encoder.
         OS=windwos vista business x64
         RAM = 12gigs
         CPU= 2 X quads
Video card = bad *** nvidia card
SAN = Isilon cluster 3 X nodes, gigabit dual teamed NIC connection
    bla bla bla
Ok. So i have about an 8 minute project, nothing too fancy, trying to export an uncompressed avi to the network at 720p resolution to the cluster storage array,  and adobe media encoder gets pretty slow near the end of the export, and is generally just a slow hog. Its not using but 10% of my CPU power, and its also not using any where close to my max NIC card throughput.
Anyone out there really good at FINE Tuning CS4 to the max??
    Please dont respond with
Check driver updates, adobe updater, bla bla bla,,,,   im not a moron.
    thanks guys!!!!

Network output has never been a problem for me, even without teamed NIC's. OK, it is slower than local disks, but it has never taken AGES.
First, do you experience the same problem when outputting to a local disk? If yes, then something with the export seems amiss. Then we need further details on your export settings to start with. If no, your network connection may be the troublesome part. What server OS are you using, what overhead/security can be degrading throughput on the NIC's? Are you using virtualization, if so what software? With other tasks on the network, do you experience the same lagging response?

  • DVD from .avi with iDVD

I have a number of old home movies in .avi format (each one is about 350MB). I would like to make a few DVDs using iDVD with at least 4 movies per DVD. But as soon as I add two of these movies to iDVD, I see that it takes up 3.7 of the available 4.2 GB (even after choosing "Best Quality" encoding.
Can someone suggest how I could get at least 4 files on to a DVD?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Core Duo 2.0 GHz / 2GB RAM

iDVD doesn't care for size, but for length of projects...
onto a single-layered 4.7Gb dvd-r, you are allowed to fit 120min of project... your .avis are much compressed (mpeg? divx?), so the size in MB is no indicator..
or, use a 3rd party app as
    VisualHub
    http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/
.. which claims to make up to 18h (eighteen!) onto a disk...

  • Tip for converting AVI w/divx & DVDs to iPod

As many others here have done, I purchased QuickTime Pro to use as a conversion tool to get various videos into my iPod. As I quickly found out, QuickTime Pro for Windows (QTPW) is pretty lame. It can't handle the Divx video codec used in some AVI files. I got around this by downloading the 3ivx.com codec, but the audio still wouldn't work. This is because QTPW doesn't handle MP3 audio encoded at a variable bitrate - which is quite common in AVI files also. Running the file through two programs is too much of a pain, so I'm giving up on QTPW for now.
I found another program that so far is working quite well. It is called "Cucusoft iPod video converter + DVD to iPod Suite". Its working well on my AVI files with DIVX video. I haven't tried it yet on DVDs. You can find this software for free eval download at: http://www.goripper.com/dvd-to-ipod-guide.html
    Good luck!
      Windows XP

    Download Handbrake from http://handbrake.m0k.org/
This will allow you to rip the video from the DVD to your computer and you can select the settings you want for use either full screen on the computer or optimized for the IPod. Select your DVD and handbrake will read the chapters. Under the Destination section Select your File format as MP4 file, then AVC/H.264 Video / AAC Audio Codec. Either change the location of the file or leave the default setting. For the Video section leave the framerate to Same as source, the encoder needs to be x264 (Baseline profile), the max bitrate that has worked for me was 750 the iPod can do 768 but it doesn't seem to work correctly when selecting 768, I reccoment using 2-pass encoding, it makes the file better quality but it takes twice as long to encode, although it shouldn't be a problem on you Intel iMac, it still goes pretty well on my DP G5. If you want subtitles select the language. For Audio under Language 1 you can use any of the settings that are available from the DVD, I have never turned on Language 2 so not sure what it would do. Sample rate can be as high as 48000 that is the max the program has and the iPod will accpet. The iPod's max bit rate is 160. I got all the info for the iPod's specs from Apple's website. Click on Picture settings change the Size to 320x240 or whatever is close for wide screen video. I usually turn off Keep aspect ratio after I change the size settings. It said on a website I found that there was a bug in Handbrake that it might crash if this was on. I leave the other settings the way they are. Close the window and select Rip. Then just put the movie into iTunes and sync it to your iPod. It will then go into the Movies folder on your iPod. Hope this works for you.

    Hi,
I don't have GraphicConverter and since it is shareware and money is tight right now, I tried to find a freeware image converter on the internet for the Mac. I didn't. I remembered that I have Photoshop Essentials. It came with my Canon scanner. I installed it and looked to see if it had a converter of some type in it. I saw that you can import a file, work with it and then save it to what you want. I thought that I had already done that with the Nikon files. Anyway, I tested it. I imported one of the Nikon images into it and saved it as a jpeg- even though it appeared to be a jpeg already. Bingo! It worked. It imported into my video editing program. I selected two other files from the Nikon shots and did the same thing. I change the name of the picture and then save it as a jpeg in Photoshop Essentials 2. The two files imported into my video editing program. I then went to the two original Nikon files that I had imported into Photoshop Essentials 2 and changed the names of them- leaving the jpeg extension on to see if they would import, they did not. So, as you said, there must by some kind of Metadata with those files. Bringing them into Photoshop Essentials 2 and saving them as jpegs fixed it. Because of what happened, I just went through my approx. 4,000 pictures and selected about 1,400 again for a new family DVD. I created folder and exported 1,446 jpeg pictures into it. Then I opened by video editing program and imported the folder. All 1,446 pictures came in. I didn't try it with FCE and iMovie, since I the program I regularly use is Adobe Premiere. I may try it later, but I am pretty confident that if the pictures can be imported into Adobe Premiere, they can also be imported into FCE and iMovie(unless there is a number limit.)
All this has taken place over several days. I am glad that it is figured out.
    Thank you for the help.

  • Playing AVI and DivX files

I've recently bought a Mac Book and am struggling to play AVI and DivX files. What seemed so easy on my old PC now seems impossible on my Mac.
I've looked at the past forums and tried a few past suggestions, but nothing works. I've tried downloading DivX for Mac with all the codecs, VLC Media Player, Perian and I've even tried coverting through DivX Doctor II.
    What am I doing wrong?

I don't think this fixes your problem but it at least keeps the thread going until someone with the answer posts. The one thing you didn't mention was fip4mac. I don't know it those others cover what it does or not. If you have downloaded the file you can control click on the file and select get info. When that comes us select open with. Change what ever that is to QuickTime. Sometimes that lets you view some files. I feel your pain, the change over takes a little time. Hang in there mate, it will be worth it.

    Hi there Schumi-z!
Well, it seems many poeple have the very same problem. Let me explain what I have got and what I look for.
I am working on a simple video editor. This program is to take a video as input, read the video and "chop" it automatically. Taken certain frames to different new videos, from one to 10 or more, according to certain parameters of the frame analized.
What I have got until today is a way of opening the video, reading it frame by frame, extracting a frame, analize it. But I'm yet to develop a way to write new videos taking a group of this previously separated frames.
I would like to know, if you are trying to solve the same or similar problem which in any time it envolves writing a new video file, so we can work together and solve this problem as soon as possible.
This work is also a part of my research to complete my thesis work. It would be an honor to have a quote mentioning someone from around the world.
Well, I hope to hear from you soon.
    Have a nice day

When I converted my .avi files to .ogm files the quality was better, but I couldnt use these files on iDVD.
Are there anything that I could try to get better quality on my video files?

    Hi
I would convert the .avi to streamingDV and use this in iDVD.
    .avi
You can use MPEG-Streamclip to convert the AVI files so that QuickTime can play them
