Avid Artist Transport Misbehaving

I've submitted a support request to Avid, but just cross-checking here in case anyone has run into the problem and found a solution.
When I run the jog/shuttle on either the Avid Artist Control or the MC Transport, the cursor advances in approx 1-minute increments, instead of frame-by-frame. So of course it's useless.
Randomly, the MC Transport jogs as it should, but it won't scrub sound.
Adjusting wheel sensitivity in EuControl makes no difference.
In any event, all firmware is up to date, EuControl is up to date.
I'm using cs6, OS 10.8.2

Check http://www.roaringapps.com/ for your Avid software to see if they mention its compatibility with your operating system.  If not, please ask Avid for support.

I use Avid artist Mix and Transport with Logic Pro and Mavericks, via hard wired ethernet and a routeur.
I also use an Airport for my wifi internet connexion.
I have very frequent conexion problems and the Avid equipement does not work.
The instruction mention the necessity of using "SUBNETS".
Where can I find instruction as to how to set this up ?
I am using a crossed ethernet cable, and I presume that there is only on kind available.

  • Avid MC Transport Control Surface now working in CS 5.5

Not sure if anyone is interested, but because Adobe doesn't have a EUCON integrated support, it greatly limits the control surfaces that can be used with it.
I googled a bunch of different things but in the end it seems like the general conclusion was that the MC Transport doesn't work with Premiere Pro, not a big deal if you don't have one, but really sucks if you do have one and use Premiere for a lot of your work.
However, following the age-old adage of "never say die" I finally figured out a work-around that has my Avid MC Transport working pretty darn good with Adobe Premiere CS 5.5 on my Mac.
I posted it here: on creative cow where you can see the whole thread: http://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/3/911511
    Hi Andree,
I had the same problem but figured it out, you can see it here http://wp.me/p1hbRg-e
or I'll paste it here for you as well:
I recently made the switch from PC to MAC for the long-form documentary  I'm making. A decision that so far, I definitely regret. But more on  that later.
For the moment I thought I'd start posting notes about problems I've run  into and solutions to them that I've found in case any one else runs  into these same problems.
I purchased the Avid/Euphonix MC Transport for use in my editing as having a jog/shuttle definitely speeds things up remarkably once you are accustomed to them.
However I didn't notice that Adobe Premiere was not supported and this  is my editing program of choice although I do have FCP and  Media Composer 5.52.
I googled around and even contacted Euphonix/Avid support and no one seemed to have a solution.
In frustration I then ordered a Contour Shuttle Pro v2 (which is sort of  like downsizing from a Porche to a Honda. Both great cars, but which  one would you kick out of bed first? Exactly.)
So while waiting for international shipping I tried a bit of a wild idea  and I installed the drivers for both the Bella Pro Premiere keyboard  (which I don't have) and the Contour Shuttle (which I don't have either) and then began customizing  the MC Transport commands to match the command keys in Adobe Premiere.
As a note; you might not need to do this on your system. I'm using a Mac  12 core and this workaround only worked once I installed those drivers  but logically speaking you shouldn't need to do it.
    And hey! It works!!!!
Some things aren't as perfect as they are in Avid or FCP such as the  shuttle wheel shifting to different speeds smoothly. But damn! The jog  wheel works perfectly.
Customizing the Soft Keys just involves ensuring that Adobe Premiere Pro  CS 5.5 is open and then choosing the soft key around the wheel and once  it is highlighted in the EUCON controller, then assigning a KEY  command.
For example your center three keys above the jog wheel should have J, K, and L assigned accordingly.
And however you wish to customize it after that. I use for cutting at  timeline (CTRL + K), next edit (page down), previous edit (page up) and  it is working like a charm.
All the other soft keys including shift command respond the same.
To program the jog wheel. Select it and choose Command, select Wheel  from the drop down, then select jog right and choose special command and  pick "right arrow" and then repeat for select jog left and choose  special command and choose "left arrow."
The shuttle you have to choose the shuttle and again add a wheel command  and then in choose shuttle and create a new shuttle wheel command. Then  from shuttle drop down, choose for Section 0 add key and set it to K  (stop), then for Shuttle Section 1 add L key once and for each shuttle  section add one more L key. Shuttle section 7 has LLLLLLL assigned to  it.
For the shuttle -1 Section choose J and for each minus section following that add one more J.
It's not perfect but it certainly does what I need it to do!
Hope that helps anyone else out there.
    Best,
    Darius

Thanks Pepe, seems to be a quick workaround! (FWIW in Logic 7.1, the command I see is Logic→Preferences→Control Surfaces→Rebuild Defaults. I assume that's what you're referring to.)
It'd be great if Apple/Tascam fixed this, but it only takes a second to rebuild the devices, so it's no biggie.

  • Logic Pro 9 not seeing Avid Artist Mix

    Hi Guys,
I've never posted in a forum before but I'm having some major trouble with getting my Avid Artist Mix Controller and Logic Pro 9 to communicate with each other.  I've tried all sorts of things, set up a static IP address for the mix and computer, trying different start up combinations, uninstalling and re-installing Eucontrol and nothing seems to be working, this controller just sits on my desk displaying nothing and doing absolutely nothing.  Here's what I've found so far in regards to it's behavior:
The Artist Mix IS connected to my computer, everything in my Network Preferences is green and when I open Eucontrol it's listed under My Surfaces as MC Mix. My computer is listed under work stations.  Upon device start up the Artist Mix displays the Avid logo, however when Eucontrol starts up and connects the display on the Artist Mix goes dark.  Upon opening Logic I see "Starting up Eucon Support" on the splash screen but then once it's open the Artist Mix DOES NOT do anything.  When searching for the Euphonix or Avid devices in Logic's "Control Surfaces" Preference window I see a list of multiple different control surfaces (i.e. Mackie, Yamaha, etc) but no Euphonix or Avid devices.  Also, I can open Eucontrol settings just fine before starting up Logic, however post Logic start up results in Eucontrol freezing and requiring a Force Quit, even after I've quit Logic.  If anyone has any light to shine on this subject it would be infinitely appreciated.  I've spent the past three days scouring the interenet for answers with zero success, Trying to get a hold of Avid Support which seems impossible (and expensive), and trying a bunch of "hunch" or "mildly informed" remedies of my own and nothing seems to be working.  So far, I just have an incredibly expensive paperweight.
    Here are my specs:
    Computer:
Late 2011 Macbook Pro 13" 2.4 GHZ Intel Core I5
    8 GB RAM
    Running OSX 10.9.2
    Eucontrol:
    Eucontrol Version 3.1.0
    Artist Mix:
    Firmware up to date 1.5.2
    Logic Pro:
    Logic Pro Version 9.1.8

I have the same problem with Logic 10.0.7 OSX 10.8 and eucon 3.1.3. It doesn't work and I have test some combination startup. There are some news? Thank you very much
This solution posted above, seems to work very well... if you follow them exactly as stated.
I use artist mix in Logic Pro X and works fine, BUT I did have some initial problems. Firstly use latest eucon software. Then turn app nap off on the eucon application icon, after that, I switch mc mix on first, then mac, let it do it's stuff, then run eucon ( not auto load eucon). When eucon recognises mc mix, then load Logic Pro x.

  • Any updates on AVID Artist Series Controllers & 10.1 Compatibility?

No news from AVID since the horrific 10.1 update that rendered all AVID artist series controllers useless. I have already talked with Apple Pro Support about this issue that the problem is clearly in AVID's court - have not put in a $60 call to them for obvious reasons (it's $60) and didn't know if any of you had any new intel regarding a possible beta DMG or anything of the like...

Updated my 27" with all the latest, zero problems. Fans work fine.
FWIW, I update all my machines as soon as new updates come out, have had trouble exactly one time in the last ten years. That was caused by the Unsanity APE which was easy to fix once I figured out the problem.
I've always wondered what percent of the Mac population the trouble reports in these forums represent. My speculation - no data - is that it's a minority, albeit rightfully vocal.
In any case, I have no qualms about early updating, have never been bit, but to be sure, YMMV.

  • Which control surface do you use, would like to use or have used for audio?

I am shopping control surfaces for mixing audio in Premiere Pro CC. I am buying used so I would sure like to get it right the first time. I am looking for feedback from those who have used a control surface as well as those who have just looked around. I have searched high and low for information from Premiere Pro users but have found very little. Even the Audition folks have not shared much information about experiences with audio control surfaces.
Here are some consoles I've looked at but cannot determine compatibility (due to lack of information):
Mackie Control Universal MCU Pro 8
    Digidesign Command 8
Digidesign Digi 002 Pro Tools Console
    M-Audio ProjectMix I/O Control Surface
Icon QCon Pro USB Midi Controller Station
    Behringer B-Control Fader BCF2000
Radikal Technologies SAC 2.2 DAW controller
Avid Artist Mix Control 8 Fader Euphonix DAW Mixing Control Surface
    Tascam FW-1884 Firewire Control Surface
    Tascam FW-1082 Firewire Control Surface
    CM Labs Motormix
    CM Labs Motormix 2
    CM Labs MotorMate
Novation ZeRO SL MkII MIDI DAW Control Surface
Nektar Panorama P1 USB Midi DAW Control Surface
    Alesis Master Control
If you have experience with any of these consoles, or have any to add to the list, specifically with Premiere Pro, please leave a note here. I believe there will be others who will check this discussion looking for the same answers as I. Documentation of these control surfaces is very thin when it coms to discovering if they are MCU or EUCON protocol (or other) - and even if I was able to discern a flavor I still do not know which features will work in Premiere, such as transport controls, faders, plug-in modifiers, et al.
So I guess my goal here is to come up with a list of work/don't work features for each of these control surfaces and more so we can make informed bang for the buck decisions. My budget for a used control surface is $300-400, but I'd be willing to go to $500-600 or more if the features/integration were significantly better.
    Thanks!

Here is the list with the responses I have received from the manufacturers, (3) so far.
Mackie Control Universal MCU Pro 8
The MCU Pro uses three different types of MIDI operating protocols (Mackie Control, HUI, and Logic Control). We have not tested the MCU Pro here in Tech Support with Premiere Pro. You will want to contact Adobe directly to see if they support the Mackie Control, HUI or Logic Control protocols with the Premiere Pro software. It is up to the manufacture of the software on how well these MIDI operating protocols are implemented into the software.  With contacting Adobe directly you will be able to see what control surfaces are supported with their software.
    Digidesign Command 8
Digidesign Digi 002 Pro Tools Console
    M-Audio ProjectMix I/O Control Surface
The Project Mix I/O is a discontinued product.  However, it should work properly with basically any DAW program.  I can't speak to specifically Premiere Pro, but we have a few customers who use that combination and those customers report it works just fine.

    Behringer B-Control Fader BCF2000
Thank you for your email! Yes, you are able to use the BCF2000 to control Adobe Pro CC. YOu will need to program the controller into Mackie Emulation mode. Mackie Emulation will allow full functionality within your software. Attached you will find a PDF showing each emulation mode. Here are a few informative links explaining setup and application:

  • Help? Aggregate devices not working in Lion

Since buying a new Mac Mini Server for my audio work using Logic Pro 9 I cannot use aggregate devices. The system preferences as well as audio midi setup will not remember my aggregate devices that I create. Also when using them the audio becomes glitchy and a terrible noise happens.  I didnt have any issues like this in 10.6.8.  I cannot believe that Apple would let this happen for so long. There are many people in the pro audio world that rely on using aggregate devices and with them not working three versions into Lion this has become maddening.
This is not a third party issue. This is not a hardware issue. This is a serious problem that takes the saying that "Macs just WORK" and flushes it right down the toilet.
I spoke w a guy named Steve at Apple pro audio and he couldnt get me off the phone fast enough.  What the ____ Apple??
PLEASE someone fix this?  I wont try 10.7.4 as it seems to make Logic work even worse.
Please...I do not want to have to go back to using pro tools and PC's.

please and thanbk you Eriksimon!   Full details - Mac Mini Server running Lion 10.7.3, Logic Pro 9.1.7  I use up to three Metric Halo 2882+DSP 2d units with the latest MIO console, drivers and firmware.  Many other Metric Halo and other multiple device users are experiencing this and it is maddening.  Ive been on Logic since 7 and am a analog-digital component level tech / electronics engineer / audio engineer with a decent knowledge of software.
I also use up to two McMix (now Avid artist mix) with latest version of Eucontrol as well as V-control pro with my iPad to control Logics transport etc when not in control room and a Novation sl49 compact USB keyboard with latest Automap version All that worked together quite well on 10.6.8 - logic 9.1.5 on my late 2008 Mac Book Pro but that system was slow...so I was hoping that Apple had Lion "in a cage" when I went out to buy this new Mac Mini Server....  I guess I should have waited.
I am having these aggregate device problems on a totally new from Mac Store Mac Mini Server Quad Core i7, did a clean install of Logic and the Metric Halo software /driver /firmware package.
Nothing else installed on this new Mac Mini but Logic 9.1.7 and MIO package.
    Please....help get this bug fixed??

  • Adobe Audition CS6 (5.0.2) update patch released

    Hey Audition friends!
This morning we released an update patch for Adobe Audition CS6.  This update, version 5.0.2 for Mac and Windows, fixes several bugs discovered after release that could not be fixed in time for the earlier patch, and cleans up a few odds and ends to ensure Audition is fully compatible for use on Windows 8.  Briefly, here are the primary bug fixes:
    Metronone may skip or stutter
Windows registry entry missing backslash in path
Eucon/Avid Artist control surface touchscreen: Control of Surround Panner does not work
Bounce to New Track > Selected Track: New track is now based on channelization of source track
Windows 8: Third-party drivers do not have a valid WHQL signature
CD Burning: Removed 78 minute limit from CD Layout.
Audition may crash on Mac when exporting to OMF
Audition may crash when attempting to bounce a track with a channelization that does not match the Master track
You may install the update by selecting Help > Updates… in Adobe Audition CS6 or through the Adobe Application Manager tool.  Additionally, you may download the patch installer directly for Mac and Windows.

Since 5.02 is an update, not an upgrade (there's a technical difference under the hood) then you shouldn't need to rescan for VSTs or anything - the new executable will use the same settings files.  However, I would suggest NOT updating in the middle of a project as a good rule of thumb.  If you choose to, I might suggest backing up the existing application files or folder so you could easily restore if you chose to.  There were no major changes introduced between 5.0 and 5.02 except for some bug fixes to improve stability, so you'll probably be safe, but unless you're running into one of the specific issues described, my recommendation would be to wait.
As for your second question, I don't know the answer to that.  What happens when you attempt to perform a mixdown?  There was some work done for the 6.0 release that would have reduced problems when trying to mixdown with UAD and other instance-limited plugins.  If you enable Track Pre-Render for those tracks, by clicking the lightning bolt icon in the Effects Rack or the "fx" view in the track panel for those tracks, do you still experience a problem?

  • Control Surfaces compatible with Premiere Pro CC

    Hello!
I am starting a new gig and I am building out a edit bay for the project.  I have only build a bay with FCP7 so I am a little hesitiant on things like peripherals.  Since Control Surfaces are new to support in Premiere please let me know what kind of experience you've all had in working with them.  I have had sucess with the Behringer BCF2000 on FCP but I've had my eye on the PreSonus FaderPort.
Can anyone lend any input or experience?
    Thanks!

    Hi Dan,
Picked up a FaderPort last Wednesday and I'm gonna return it on Monday.
Here's the story. First of all, if just going by the specs, Premiere is not supported by FaderPort.
FaderPort uses either the Mackie HUI or the Mackie Control protocol but it's defaulted to HUI so you have to switch it over yourself, a procedure that is not explained explicitly in the manual.
Once you do that the key mapping is "all weird" and I could not make any sense of it, so after two days of fighting it, I gave up and will return the thing (thank god for the 30-day free return policy in Sweden).
In essence, I would not go for the FaderPort with Premiere.
Honestly speaking, after some research, I am yet to find a control surface that explicitly states full compatibility with Premiere.
I was over on the Avid website and was looking at the Avid Artist Mix compatibility specs, Premiere is not even on the list. Audition is, but there is no functionality listing for it, unlike all the other supported DAWs.
I don't really know why no control surface I've seen explicitly supports Premiere, might be because Premiere only recently got the control surface functionality, but I think that both the surface makers and Adobe need to shape up and iron this out, because I'm not gonna mix a 90 minute dance show video using the mouse for a fader!
    Cheers, J

  • Compatible control surface Premiere Pro CC 2014

    Hi
I am thinking of getting a control surface for audio mixing in Premiere Pro CC 2014. I note the support of eucon and Mackie. However Adobe's Support just advised me than Avids Artist Mix is not compatible. I found this odd as it is a eucon device but obviously not running the risk now.
So hence my question: are you using a control surface successfully with PP cc and if so which one?
    Thanks!

MIDI programing like Ableton Live - that would be GAME CHANGER

  • Using a Control Surface with the Clip Mixer

I'm contemplating purchasing a Mackie MCU to help automate some of the volume edits I have to make using 5 tracks in the Audio Clip Mixer over 80 hours of video.  I've tried to contact Adobe support, but they are about as cluless as a bag of hammers.  When I asked if the clip mixer works with a control surface (after 4 calls and 4 different agents) I was told no.  Which is total BS as there is toggle in the clip mixer called "Toggle Control Surface Clip Mixer Mode". They read from scripts and have no clue what they are talking about.   I guess I should not be surprised as its an outsourced call center staffed with drones who have never even used the software, much less in production!  Adobe you should be ashamed of your support, it's appauling! (BTW I own an online Magazine in the 3d industry and will be writting an article about your appauling support soon)
    Anyway, onto my specific questions:
    1) The Mackie MCU has overlay cards for button mappings for many different apps, but PP is not one of them.  What functionaliy is mapped to the control surface specially from PP and the clipmixer?
    2) Is there a way to group channels so that keyframes can be written to multiple clips at the same time by using one fader?
    3) In the clip mixer there is a keyframe toggle, does such a toggle translate to the control surface?
    4) Sometimes I want to manually keyframe, rather thanan make adjustments while the playhead is moving, so I will simply click the fader slider to write a keyframe, manually move the playhead and then adjust the fader to write the subsequent keyframes.  As faders on a control surface can not be pushed like a button, is there a way to generate a keyframe from the control surface?
    5) Are there any known limitations using the control surface vs the software for both the clip and track mixers?
    Jeff

The Mackie device has some quirks, and while basic functionality is there, PPro does not have as strong support with mackie as it does with eucon through the avid artist series.  The physical MCU keys switched between different versions of the device and what is undo on one is a different function on another, so sadly, depending on what model you get, those buttons may or may not be correct by the label that is on the device.  There is no way for us to tell which one you have.
Clip mixer mode can be enabled either through the fly out menu in the clip mixer or by assigning a keyboard shortcut.  When engaged, it supports the faders, pan/balance/mute and solo.  If automation is engaged it will record automation, though you can't engage clip mixer automation via the control surface like you can on the track mixer.
Unfortunately there is no way to group channels at this time, aside from making a submix, but I do not think this is what you were requesting.
There is not a way to manually enter a keyframe via a button on the control surface.
It is possible to customize some of the control surface buttons by hitting the button assignments button in the Mackie control surface window.  This is mostly limited to the function keys and a few others
The touch and latch mode lights is a known bug.
If you want more customization, the Avid Artist series has much better support in this regard.  We set up many soft keys, but you can also create your own very easily.
I will take a look at the other issues you have raised as they sound like bugs, but I also encourage you to file them through here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform as it will help us to gauge how many are using the mackie protocol vs eucon.
    Thanks

  • Control surface toggle audio clip mixer

Thought I'd post this as it took me some time to work out it was possible.
External control surfaces now work with the Audio Track Mixer, but I couldn't find a way (or any info) on how to make it work with the new Audio Clip Mixer. Eventually I found 'Toggle Control Surface Mixer Mode' in the keyboard shortcuts and now everything is working well in both modes.
This works for mute, solo and level in the Clip Mixer. I've not yet attempted any automation, I can't see a way to turn on the 'record keyframes' other than manually one track at a time. Still, progress to this point is very welcome.

  • Premiere Pro and control surfaces

Does Premiere Pro have support for control surfaces like the Mackie MCU Pro or the Avid Artist Control?
    Thank you.

Support is new in CC, but I don't know which specific models are supported.  You might try a Google search.

Avid..Syphony..MC..Smoke..Flame...and yes there was one call Jaleo SGI..(rip.! haha bad cutsomer service Jaleo have.. not to mention the SGI Onyx 2 $$$$). I just recently jump on the Adobe Premiere Pro bandwagon..(I'm still on Avid MC also) after NAB 2011. Two things that really got me was CUDA and Mercury.. I saw the demo at NAB I was like dam that Avid Nitris DX power for less than $2-4K (evil grind).. I was even more happy when I saw my Nvidia GTX285 was one of the supported GPU...now that you guys got Iridas technology I can't wait what goodies are coming...BUT please have some sort of training ready for the Iridas products... support multi-GPU...talking about process power and diffrent cards vendor...Suppor Tangeant Element /Avid Artist Series control panels..

  • Mc mix/ artist mix flip mode in logic

    Hello all.
in first " excuse me for my bad english"
For a very long time, the yellow arrows that signaled the actiivation flip mode on the OLED display on the mc mix, has disappeared, since it is very difficult to know if the flip mode is enabled or not!
is that I'm the only one or no longer has that arrow?
someone does it the arrow that appears in the flip mode to mix mc artist or mix with logic?
thank you for your response avid didnot reply at my question..
    Perhaps my english :-)

Frankly, I'm not sure of the date I uninstalled the hardware (which would tell me which version of Logic I was running at the time.)  Since things are not working for PT OR Logic, I suspect the problem is somewhere else... but where, especially since Eucon connects to the hardware???
