Avid keyboard settings in Premiere 6

I am trying to use the Avid keyboard settings in Premiere 6.   I have gotten a few to work, but some, particularly CUT, command X, is not working.  I have tried this on a two machines on different sequences.
Has anyone had any success using the Avid keyboard settings?

I have been struggling with this for a few days now, working around the fact that I could not get a keystroke to "cut".
With some help from fellow editors, I think I have figured this out.
My mistake was thinking that "cut" (command X) under the file menu should actually do something on the timeline.  It does not.  What you really want is to program "extract" as a keyboard stroke.  On Avid, it is "x".  On Premiere, it is the apostrophe.  I am guessing that "cut" applies to text on clips or bins, not editing on the timeline.  What is even more confusing is that the other commands under the "edit" menu (copy, paste, paste insert) work on the timeline.  Not very logical in my opinion.
Hope this helps someone else struggling with this problem.

  • Convert Avid keyboard settings into FCP?

Hey all. Does anybody have an idea about how to export my Avid Adrenaline keyboard layout settings and import it into FCP? I prefer FCP, but I use Avid at work, and am having a tough time keeping up with the differences in hotkey commands. Any ideas?
    -Rob

I used to have to go back and forth two...and it took a little bit to adjust my thinking each time. I haven't found a way to map all the Avid commands to the FCP board..because they really have different commands for most things, as they both do things differently. What I ended up doing is mapping both with similar commands in the same spots. But the trim commands, effects commands and more all ALL different.
Thank goodness I am only on one machine now.

  • FCP keyboard like Avid Keyboard

I’ve been looking all over for 2 things in FCP that I use to use a lot in Avid.
    Extend Edit.
I found a key called “extend edit” in FCP but it doesn’t work for me. I mapped it to my keyboard and it doesn't seem to stretch out the select source to the in point or out point.
    Toggle Source Tracks.
Like our number keys 4-7 on the Avid. Toggling the source audio and video tracks so that you can cut it in to the correct track in the timeline. I'm talking about linking the source video to timeline video track or source audio to timeline audio. So I can hit a button, have them link up, and overwrite an edit in my timeline.
    thanks

As Steve said extend edit works differently. Instead of looking at the IN or OUT point set FCP looks to where the time marker is for the selected edit. Kinda the same only different!
As for the V and A select keys, since you can map almost anything in FCP you can map those keys to where you want them. FCP is a bit different in it's way of selecting tracks though. Toggle Auto Select is close to what in Avid is turning tracks on and off.
I have mapped a FCP very close to my Avid settings (here's a pic on my Flickr account) as I think an Avid keyboard is much more efficient.

  • Best Export / Video settings for Premiere Pro. Help Needed.

What's the best settings when you want to export a video from Premiere Pro for the web or otherwise. Best settings = good quality video and LOW file size.
Benchmark : The videos on Apple Trailers. Check them out at http://www.apple.com/trailers
The trailers are of high quality video, great sounds, and the Large sizes all fall under the 25MB mark. Any ideas on HOW this is done and what
settings in Premiere Pro CS3 might be able to replicate such standards?
Any help is appreciated. I normally use Encoder and export using H264 but that always seems to have an Audio lag. Any similar issues?
    Thanks a mil!

I understand that better quality = bigger file size. That's true in most cases, but there is a way around it, I'm just not sure what that way is. As I mentioned in the original post, the benchmark is http://www.apple.com/trailers . The non-HD videos on any movie page on that site hardly ever exceeds the 25MB mark. The videos are 2-3minutes long, and while they may not be top-notch BD visuals, they look way better than 95% of the stuff that's streamed off the net.
That's why I asked if anyone had any ideas on how to replicate something like that. Say I had a avi file of great quality, shot with a Panasonic DV Cam. I Capture the footage, do whatever I have to in Pr, and the result is now a 3minute video. I want it exported to a Quicktime file, I want it to look visually pleasing like the trailers on Apple, and I want it to fall under 25MB. I have tried H.264 encoding, regular Quicktime, and Quicktime via Encoder. Nothing reaches the expected quality.
For more examples visit http://www.passionpictures.com.my/pages/recent.aspx and download those simple 30second clips. All Quicktime, mostly under 5.5MB. If Pr can't do it, then I don't know what can...so I'm sure Pr can do it.
Problem is, how? Experimentation is definitely a way to go, I get that. But on the basis of the scenario given above...how is it done?

  • Personal Keyboard settings

Hey got a problem got a mac with a u.s. keyboard but i also need some special letter on it like ä,ö,ü would like to keep using the u.s settings, and integrate those special characters, e.g control + a = ä ; is it possible to customize it in some way couldnt find anything. Thx

Go to "International" in the System Preferences to Input Menu and check US and check German (Deutsch) and at the bottom of the pane: Check the Show Input Menu in Menu Bar.
You may then change the input source between keyboard settings right from the menu bar according to which you want at the moment.

  • Audio Settings for Premiere CS6

Hi, I currently run a Mac Pro with a 27 inch Apple Monitor with built in camera.  The machine is also running Mountain Lion 10.8.5.  Could someone give me some clarification as to why the Audio Settings for Premiere CS6 are the way they are?
Example with a Macbook Pro and an iMac when I plug in a headphone I can get the sounds from Premiere pro as well as something from youtube to the headphones.  However in the case of the Mac Pro with the Apple Monitor, when the headphones are plugged in the youtube sounds come through but the Premiere sounds go through the monitor.  I'm aware of the audio settings but I suspect this is working by design because of the different audio options the Mac Pro have and there is nothing broken about this.
    Please advise.
    Thank you.

I've always found this a bit annoying.
The intended behaviour is that if you go into Premiere's audio settings, and choose "System Default Input/Output", it should change along with the system (so that the audio comes out wherever YouTube does). In practice, I've found this to be inconsistent in pre-CC versions of Premiere (CC fixes this).
One tip that may be helpful for you in general on a Mac Pro:
    1. If you don't already have the volume icon in the menu bar (by the clock), enable that in System Preferences > Sound.
    2. Option-click on the icon and you'll get a quick menu of your output options

  • The quality of the footage is lost when I use certain settings in Premiere Pro CS6

    Hello ,
I filmed footage on a Canon XA10. They are MTS files and the codecs are 1440x 1080, frame rate 29.97, H264- MPEG- 4AVC, input nitrate 9854, and stream nitrate is 8971
I need to submit them as application samples for a job. The job requires certain settings to be used.
    for HD 1080i  the application sample should be 960 x 540 @ 29.97
they have other settings, like NTSC should be 320 x 243 @ 29.97
With one file I filmed rain and in the original file it's clear and the quality it really good. I export using the settings H.264 and Apple TV, iPad, iPhone 4 or newer - 960 x 540 29.97
    under basic video settings is
        width 960
        height 540
    frame rate 29.97
After exporting it the .mp4 file came out pixelated and the image quality is much lower.
I had another problem with a file shot with the same camera and the same codecs  (MTS files and the codecs are 1440x 1080, frame rate 29.97 ect.)
It was footage that I had to speed up, after exporting it came out shaky. When I export with the 1440 x 1080 settings it's not shaky, but I need it to be 960 x 540. I can't turn in shaky footage.
What am I doing wrong and how can I get footage that is acceptable for submission?

Here is an example of how much quality is lost..

  • Keyboard settings in Java Studio Creator

I am using Solaris 10, Swedish installation. All programs exept Java Studio Creator 2 Update 1 is Swedish. The Creator is in English. Every program so far, exept Java Studio Creator, uses the Swedish keyboard settings.
When using Java Studio Creator, I am missing brackets "[" and "]" which turns into "8" and "9",
How do I configure Java Studio Creator to use my Swedish keyboard settings?
    Thanks in advance!

  • FAQ: How do I trim in the Timeline using keyboard shortcuts in Premiere Pro CS6 and CC?

You can now trim with a lot more keyboard shortcuts in the Timeline in Premiere Pro CS6 and CC. See this article for details: Timeline trimming using keyboard shortcuts in Premiere Pro CS6.

I'm relieved (if a little frustrated!) that others have the same issues, it makes me feel at least it's not just me! :-)
I am running Windows 7 64 bit Intel quad core processor 8Gb RAM if that helps Jim?
Another quick test shows I have exactly the same issues as shooternz and Ann Bens above at 7 & 8 respectively. An audio only or audio/video clip from Bin to SM and I can add markers on the fly perfectly. Audio/video from the timeline to SM works just the same. Audio only from the timeline will not work however.
I tried linking a video clip to my audio clip to see if that would allow me to add markers then unlink and remove the video... but when I opened that in SM the add marker button was greyed out and the keyboard shortcut (M) didn't work either!
    Curiouser and curiouser...

  • Timeline trimming using keyboard shortcuts in Premiere Pro CS6

Just wrote a new blog post about Timeline trimming using keyboard shortcuts in Premiere Pro CS6.
It's in the FAQ now, as well.
    Check it out.

Good question.  If/when it does it again, I'll check.  However, until you asked that, I never noticed the keyboard layout options and that one of them is CS5.5.  That's an easier fix for me than re-customizing everything, as I was just wanting the CS5 layout.
Something else I noticed is that my workspace is set for "Import from Project" and I'm supposing it's possible that the keyboard layout is connected to the workspace and might be either resetting it to CS6 or custom, which may or may not have had those customizations.   About 25% of the projects I'm working on currently are pre-CS6, so every time I load one of those up, it might be making everything else go wonky.
In any event, I have a better idea what to look out for now.  Thanks

  • Keyboard Settings button disabled

On opening Region and Language > Input Sources, the wrench button is disabled. I can't figure out which package is needed to select that option despite searching around.
    Attached screenshot below.
Anyone else ran into this on a fresh arch install with the gnome 3.6.2 package?

Yup! Have that installed..(thanks for the reply though!)
If I remember correctly, in Ubuntu, this brought up a screen to change the caps-lock key behaviour to esc, etc...I already used dconf to map it, I am sure that there is something wrong with my keyboard settings.
(Possibly) related problem using  "Custom Shortcuts" to map "gnome-terminal" to "Ctrl+Alt+T", stops working on reboots until I redefine the key.

  • Right sequence and export settings in Premiere Pro CS6, video with still images

I am trying to run a video on my website (self hosted). This video, made with Premiere Pro CS6, consists of still images with different video effects.
This video is only 50 seconds, but when I transform this in the ogg, webm and mp4 format, I obtain file with large size and the quality is not good.
Could you please guide me to find out the right sequence and export settings in Premiere Pro CS6 to obtain a video for the best possible quality on the web?
A precise description of the settings would be awesome.
    Thank you
    Silvia

Make the export setting the resolution you want to use on the web.
Make the sequence settings accordantly to these export settings

  • My keyboard settings got messed up. I hit something, then heard a loud ding.

My keyboard settings got messed up. I hit something, heard a loud ding; after restarting I can't log in because the enter key appears to add a character instead of a Return. How can I fix the keyboard if I can't log in to get to my settings??

Is there a way I can enter system preferences from the start up screen or in safe mode?

  • Wrong keyboard settings at login prompt

So I have a German (qwertz) keyboard and both the tty and KDE know that. Only the graphical login prompt thinks I have a US (qwerty) keyboard: To log in, I have to enter my username and password the way I would enter it into a US keyboard.
The wiki tells me KDM is responsible for the login prompt and the X server is responsible for KDM's keyboard settings. This would explain why it works in the terminal (which is independent of X) and in KDE (which presumably overrides X settings), right? But how do I change the keyboard layout that X thinks I have without changing xorg.conf, which is auto-generated by Catalyst? Or do I need to change something else for the login prompt to get the correct keymap?

    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xo … t-Plugging
Instead of changing the xorg.conf file, you can create a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/30-keyboard.conf to change the keyboard layout.
Mine for the french azerty layout is like that:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "Keyboard Defaults"
    MatchIsKeyboard "yes"
    Option "XkbLayout" "fr"
    EndSection

  • Is it possible to pre-configure the iPad keyboard settings using Apple Configurator or iPhone Configuration Utilitity?

I have to configure 20+ iPads for events that are sometimes in French, sometimes in English, sometimes both. It is important that I can preset the keyboard settings to allow multiple languages (for example). I've been looking in Apple Configurator and iPhone Configuration Utility, and I can't find where I can set that kind of settings during deployment.
Is there a way I can manage all the settings of the iPads without having to go through each iPad to make sure the settings are ok for my event?

Order Management provides you with the ability to import ATO and PTO configurations from legacy systems or EDI. In your case, you should define the ATO/PTO model first and then import the order and configuration selections from the EDI.
The order import will let you create an Order even if the selections are invalid.
You should then programmatic book and progress the order (using Order actions api).
If the configuration is valid, then the API will generate a * number (ATO item), create bom/routing as appropriate and place that item on the sales order.
If the configuration is invalid, it won't let you book the order. Once you have fixed the invalid selections/configurations, you will be able to book and progress the order.
    See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/A89549_01/acrobat/115omapi.pdf for details.
Also refer to the "Importing Configurations" section in Oracle Order Management Suite White Papers [ID 113492.1]
