Avid Meridien Codec Q

I just downloaded a promo that I have to incorporate into a DVD. It's a QT but none of my programs will recognize it (QT, FCP, Compressor, Streamclip). When I pull up the info on it, it says it's an Avid Meridien, Uncompressed, Integer (Big Endian) codec.
Is there another option for me or do I have to contact them and get it in another format? I'm trying to avoid this because it will take a while to go through the proper channels and then it takes another 3 hours or so to download it from the ftp.

Thanks a lot Jerry. I downloaded the codecs and now I can see it both in FCP and QT. Now here's my problem. I need to add a dissolve at the beginning. But when I put the file in the timeline it has to be rendered. After I render it I can't see it anymore.
So I'm trying to figure out which sequence settings I need to get this to work. I've also tried exporting the clip from the browser as a QT Movie but that just comes out as black with audio. I also get a message when I try to this telling me I'm converting between DV and CCIR formats and would I like to preserve my pixel aspect ratio. I hit ok and it runs through the motions and gives me a black file. What am I doing wrong here?

  • Where do I install Avid Meridien codecs for use in Final Cut Pro X on Lion?

I'm using FCPX and imported a couple of files that were output with the Avid Meridien codec. When I try to use the files in FCPX, I can hear the audio, but I get no video. How do I get FCPX to see the codecs?

Yes, the files play in QT player with video. Can you provide a few more details on Compressor such as where to find and how to implement?

  • Avid Meridien Codec in Compressor

I'm having trouble encoding anything using Compressor, it keeps giving me a "failed: codec not installed" message. I have the Avid Meridien codecs (AvidAVDJCodec.component and AvidAVUICodec.component) installed. I had been having trouble even playing the QT movies that were exported out of avid in quicktime player, but I found out that these codecs do not work in the new intel macs, and i had to select 'open using rosetta' in the Quicktime Player Application - Get Info.
They play back fine in quicktime. I even tried to change the info on the compressor application to 'open using rosetta' thinking that it would be the same intel chip type problem. Nothing seems to work. I can't figure out how quicktime player is able to see/hear them fine but compressor cannot.
    Any help?
Running on Intel iMac, OSX 10.4.7, Quicktime Pro 7.1.2, Compressor 2.1.

  • Can't see video in an Avid Meridien Clip with codecs installed.

Hey all, any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's my issue. i have two computers described below, both have many avid codecs on them i'll list those below too. Neithe of them can show a clip that was exported out of an Avid even with the codecs installed. The Clip's details say that it's codec is the Avid Meridien Compressed, Integer (Big Endian), it's dimensions are 720X486 and it says a channel count of 2
When i try to show this clip in FCP or in QT, all I see is a white screen.
Any ideas??? i need to get this into FCP so i can export it to make DVD's really soon.

last I heard, the Avid Meridien codecs were not yet fully supported on the Intel Mac platform ... but workarounds have been reported in the past
the latest codecs Version LE 1.40, are dated March 23, 2007 and may be worth downloading if you have not already done so
that installer puts the following quicktime components into Library/Quicktime:
    - AvidAV1xCodec.component: Avid 1:1x codec (Uncompressed MXF 8-bit)
    - AvidAVd1Codec. component: Avid DV 100 codec (MXF)
    - AvidAVdnCodec. component: Avid DNxHD codec (MXF)
    - AvidAVdvCodec. component: Avid DV codec(DV 25 and DV 50, OMF and MXF)
    - AvidAVpkCodec. component: Avid Packed codec (Uncompressed MXF 10-bit)
    - AvidAVDJCodec.component: Avid Meridien Compressed codec (OMF 8-bit)
    - AvidAVUICodec. component: Avid Meridien Uncompressed codec (OMF 8-bit)
in the past it has been reported that you then need to remove the following two components:
    AvidAVdvCodec.component
    AvidAVpkCodec.component
i've also seen reports that say you just have to pull the the AvidAVUICodec so go figure
if the latest codec pack does not work as is, then try removing those two or just the one ... or a different combination altogeher. probably worth a shot

  • Avid Meridien 2:1P PAL RGB codec

I have some some Quicktimes given to me from a client and the codec is Avid Meridien,
    Can i convert these?
I have heard installing the avid codecs can create problems owith After effects or FCP or something with the OS

    Hi Toby,
I run FCP, Avid and After Effects on my Macs and have never had any problems. The only problem I have heard of is that Avid software is not happy if you have a BlackMagic capture card installed in your machine. You can download the Avid codecs package from their website (if you haven't already got them on your machine) and then use either FCP, Quicktime, or Compressor to convert them to another format/codec.

  • After Effects users out there using Avid QT codecs...

I am just wondering, especially to all those Motion Graphic Designers and alike who are using
    b After Effects

Do you have a problem or an error message popping out just before you hit the 'render' button in the Render Queue? If the audio is checked??
It is not totally disaterous but just an annoying error message, I have to turn off rendering with audio to avoid the error message.

  • Avid Meridien Compressed.mov file

Can anyone help me with this. I have been given an Avid Meridien quicktime file and I have been given the codec so I can read it. Quicktime can play this fine, but when I import it into Final Cut Pro and change my sequence settings to add to my timeline it says
    'General Error'
    Then
    'Error:Out of Disc Space'
Does anyone know how to solve this, so that I can play this file in my timeline. Would appreciate it
    Thanks

I think tallguy is right. The Avid codec, when installed, will allow playback of Avid files in Quicktime player but not in Final Cut Pro. At least that is what I concluded when I once tried the same thing. I really didn't make sense in that FCP is Quicktime based software... go figure. I was going back to a DV based project at the time so I transcoded to dvrez so I didn't have any quality issues.

  • Export QT from AVID Meridien to play on Mac

A friend exported a short video via quicktime on his AVID Meridien system although he's convinced it's adrenaline. The video will not play but I do hear audio. The AVID is using qt 7.3 and I'm at 7.5. Is there a codec you folks are familiar with I can use to help me past this so I can edit on my FCP.
    Thanks

Open the video in Quicktime and so a Apple Key + I (eye) to get info on the codec being used. It may be a Avid codec so you might need to visit Avid's web site to get the codec.

  • Avid meridien uncompressed and compressed

Since I just bought a mac and started to edit on FCP, I came across a codec problem.
I had to finish up some work on my avid system(an old xpress pro hd 5.2.4 to be exactly.) This was done on my pc.
I exported my work into a quick time movie using avid's own meridien codec (compressed.)
Everything exported out and it looked good on pc, however, when I tried it on mac,
I got an error message prompting me to download a codec mac could read.( dvix, amongst others...)
The Avid codec wasn't available on the website so I went to the avid's site to get the exact codec, found it (avid downloads ...etc.)
    So far so good...
The problem is(and I am not sure whether it is a mac problem or avid not supporting..) I can not install "Avid AVDJcodec. comp
*(error message: The following install step failed: run postflight script for Avid Codecs LE.*
As we have a saying in Antwerp: Om stenen kloten van te krijgen.
Option nr 1: I can export all my work with another codec ( too much to handle because I really would like to start working on fcp.
option 2:      throw avid software out of the window and forget about it.
Is there something I can do to safe my work?
    Cheers,
    Timpie

Option #1 - Finish on your Avid. Why are you switching now? Every major non-linear editor captures to proprietary codecs that don't work well on other machines. Add the fact that you are coming from a PC and that makes matters worse.
Option #2 - Buy the upgrade to Media Composer and see if you can get the Mac edition. It should only be a few hundred dollars. And it is a very solid editing application.
Option #3 - recapture your footage. Export an OMF from your Avid and then use Automatic Duck Pro Importer (www.automaticduck.com) to import that into FCP. Yes, you can try an EDL, but that is iffy...especially if you used a lot of Avid effects.
I know that you can offline on Avid and finish on FCP, and offline on FCP and online on Avid, but to jump horses mid-stream is VERY difficult. I really suggest sticking with finishing the cut on the Avid....then you can move to Final Cut Pro.

  • Black jagged edges appear on footage with Avid DNxHD codec

    Hello,
Currently I'm editing some GoPro footage from my vacation, and I'm editing this video in Premiere and After Effects.
When I was done editing in Premiere and exported the video as a Quicktime movie with the Avid DNxHD codec, I brought it in to After Effects.
The project in After Effects is a 16 bpc since I have to dynamically stretch the footage to make it fit in a 1080p comp (doesn't have to do with this, but the point is, I have to edit in 16 bpc in order to stretch my footage). Now the problem is, I get weird black blocks around my clipped highlights, and this only happens in 16 or 32 bpc.
Here's a screen shot I took from it:
    Gyazo - 549356228a841d35b781c05c2b41011b.png
I don't know a lot about codecs and I have no idea how to solve this, so my question is: How do I get rid of these black blocks while still maintaining this 16 bits per channel?
It would be great if anyone could give me the answer .
    Jeroen

I just came up with a solution myself. In Premiere, change in the DNxHD codec settings from ''709'' to ''RGB''.
When you bring it into AE again, it won't have the black edges anymore.
However, I don't really know what this does to the quality of the video, but there's not a noticable difference.

  • Power PC G5 Unable to Play .MOV File with Avid DNxHD Codec

Our client is sending us .mov Quicktimes with Avid DNxHD Codec.
It wouldn't play on our Macbook Pros, but no problem, I downloaded the codec and it ran fine afterwards.
Not having the same luck with our Power Mac G5 Workstation.
It runs on Mac OS Leopard 10.5.8.
Downloaded the codec for Leopard from this link:
    http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=263545
    Nothing changed.
I play the file and all I see is black as the timeline runs.
How should I fix this issue?

The Power Mac G5 does not have an Intel Processor like the newer macs do. Could that be root of issue?
It is a definite possibility. The link you posted indicated the Mac v2.1 component was compatible with OS 10.5.5 and later which would normally imply QT 7 with or without Intel CPU. However, the editing software applications do seem to restrict their use to "Intel only" Mac systems. For instance, Pro Tools v8.3 and higher are listed as "Intel Only" software. Did try the v2.01 QT codec component or look for anything older?

  • Use Compressor to export to AVID DNXHD CODEC

    Hey all,
I posted this question at the CreativeCow FCP forum - and than I thought maybe its a COMPRESSOR Forum question - so here it is:
I have installed AVID CODEC PACK LE
Currently I use FCP to export to DNXHD and its working OK (but slow).
I wanted to know if it is possible for me to use COMPRESSOR to export to AVID DNXHD CODEC.
I need it because a lot of times I need to export to this codec (for AVID System that does the Promos)
And I don't want to use FCP for that because I want to keep editing While I'm converting.
If Compressor can't export to DNXHD can I use QUICKTIME TO EXPORT TO DNX HD?
    Thanks!

Create a new Quicktime Movie in Compressor. Open the Inspector window and click on the settings button next to "Video." Then click on the Compression Type pulldown menu and scroll up to the Avid section and choose "Avid DNxHD."
I've included a screen grab of what this looks like. http://www.box.net/shared/hzblfnsuu6

  • Set the AVID DV codec specific values programaticly

    Hi,
I am trying to change the AVID DV codec options settings from NTSC to PAL 420.
    i used the
    SCGetSettingsAsAtomContainer ( video_ci, &container );
function to save the selected codec settings from the dialog.
If i read them and check it with the dialog it show Avid Dv pal 420.
if i start compressing it turns out to be ntsc again.
and if i read the values back trouch the GetMediaSampleDescription(..) etc...
It also shows its encoded with an NTSC setting.
    Please help.
    Cheers,
    Peter
How can i set the Codec specific values.
Can this be done by SCSetInfo
if i load the saved compressor data with
Please can anyone give me a hint were to search and what to do.
Is there a way to save the compression settings, not the export settings.
    Thanks,
    Peter

I tried to check what happens if i print the codec settings
    SCGetSettingsAsText( video_ci , &text );
when i print for example the apple motion Jpeg codec it also shows the option settings
if i print the Avid DV codec it does not show the the Pal/Ntsc settings.
so it looks like an avid problem. HMMM or is there another way i could try to get all the settings for the selected codec.

  • AVID DV Codec to Apple DV Codec

    Hi,
I've recently received some quicktime video footage, exported from an AVID system, which I wish to import into my Final Cut system. However, as I've just found out, AVID exports DV footage using its own "Avid DV codec," which is incompatible with Final Cut Pro (it's also incompatible with my Quicktime player, it turns out). I know for a fact that the footage plays on a PC, but it can't play on my mac. Does anyone out there know how I can convert it to something Apple friendly? Any encoding applications you recommend?
    Cheers.

Just install the Avid QuickTime codecs...

  • Avid Users-QuickTime and (Older) AVID QuickTime Codec

Hello everyone. The reason I am posting here regarding this instead of in Avid's own forum (I believe they do have one) is simply because I do not have an account/ID there, and most Avid users are also Mac users.
Anyway, the remaining of our graphic macs in the office will be upgrading to G5s and OS X Tiger soon (finally) and one "old" Avid Symphony (on a Windows NT) is still 'working with us' and the new OS X Avid QuickTime Codecs are unable to read any QuickTime movie exported from the Symphony to the macs.
Right now because we are still using OS 9, an older Avid QuickTime Codec (that only exist in OS 9 platform) enable us to read the movie clip and allow us to render properly in After Effects.
To allow that clip from Symphony to be able to use on a Mac OS X platform, we have to use QuickTime Player (OS 9) to re-export it using the newer Codec into a new movie clip.
After we finished rendering we will use the same method to re-export that clip to "downgrade" the clip to the older codec.
If we all use new G5s, one way is to install OS 9 as Classic in G5, launch it and launch QuickTime Player to do the same - unless in Classic environment this method will not work??
I am just wondering if anyone in this profession has the same "dilemma" the same working situation as us? And how do you solve it?? We can't simply just get rid of the Symphony (we love to... ha ha ha)
    Thanks and cheers

I had the same issue and I located the registry key HKEYCURRENTUSER\Software\Apple Computer, Inc.\Quicktime\LocalUserPreferences
I then substituted the %USERPROFILE% variable for the entire key and copied the preferences file, which I created with an account the had admin privileges, to the root of the mandatory user profile. Now I can run the software as a user using this mandatory profile and the software runs without prompting me to Update the software.
