Avoid iPhoto opening automatically when camera in docking unit

Hi,
I hope someone can help me to solve a small problem. Somehow, some months ago I must have ticked off a box to make iPhoto open automatically when I press the USB button on my digital camera.
Now my mac is almost two years old, but works fine, except that iPhoto is incredibly slow. iPhoto using years to open each time I want to pick some pictures from my camera has become extremely annoying, but I can't find out how to turn that function off.. I guess the answer is quite simple?

Go to Applications -> Image Capture. In the preferences to this app you can decide what happens when a camera is connected.

  • Iphoto open automatically when I turn computer on

Iphoto open automatically when I put my computer on and I can't solve the problem. I have checked the login items on the system preferences and iphoto is not one of the checked items. I even played with it a few times to see wether it was simply stuck but the problem persisted. I checked previous solutions to that same question but they all say to uncheck the logged in items on the accounts. Thank you so much for your help.

Do you have any external drives connected, that could be mistaken for a camera? Drives or thumbdrives with MS-DOS (FAT32) formatting? Then set the "General" preference in iPhoto "Connecting a camera" opens to "No Application".
Do you quit iPhoto when you log off? If not, the log off option "Reopen windows when logging back in"  may be active and auto launching iPhoto.

  • IPhoto opens automatically when iPhone is connected

iPhoto for Mac (Yosemite) opens automatically when iPhone (iOS 8) is connected. I have "no application" chosen in iPhoto preferences and Image Capture has no preference options in the menu. I can find nothing in System Preferences OS X 10 or in Setting iOS 8. Where do I turn off the automatic iPhoto start?

This is most likely because it is  asking you to choose photos to sync to your computer. I don't know how to get rid of it though. Hope you find the answer!

  • Don't want iPhoto to open automatically when camera is attached

How can I get iPhoto to quit opening when I have a camera attached to the computer. I don't use this program for editing photos, not do I download photos to it and so don't want it to take five minutes to open every time I connect my camera or iPhone.

    Open iPhoto.
Go to iPhoto > Preferences > General > "Connecting camera opens:" and choose "No application".
If you don't see that option then perhaps you are not using iPhoto '09. Go the the iPhoto menu > About iPhoto and check the version. Should be 8.1.2.

  • ITunes opens automatically when iPhone3G is docked, but I don't want it to.

I seem to be having the opposite problem that others have been posting about, which is that iTunes doesn't open when they connect their iPhones/iPods.
In my case, it does, but I don't want it to. I've been keeping the iphone in the dock next to my computer to ensure that it has a full charge before I hit the road each day, but if I take it out of the dock to take a phone call or do something else with it, then the next time I insert the iPhone back into the dock, iTunes fires up, even though I've made no changes that require a resyncing.
I've gone through the prefs in iTunes, but the only thing I can find is a setting under Sync that says "Don't automatically sync...", but that's only half the problem.
I seem to recall a setting somewhere at some time in the past that said "Open iTunes when this iPod is connected". What happened to that setting?
Is there some way that I can redock the iPhone without having iTunes boot up?
    Thanks!

Hehe, I was able to recreate your scenario exactly, and I got mine to work, hopefully it will for you too:
To recreate your scenario (greyed out "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected", it NOT checked, yet iTunes still opens when iPhone is connected) I did this:
I don't know if this part matters, but I started out with "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" checked in the device summary tab (too lazy to see if it matters. ;o)) then I went into preferences -> syncing and CHECKED "Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones and iPods". After this, I went back to the Summary tab and sure enough, got the greyed out message for "automatically sync" and it now it is UNCHECKED. Closed iTunes, plugged in my iPhone and lo and behold iTunes still opened!! This is your scenario exactly right?
So it appears that the combination of settings issue, because here is what I did to fix it: Preferences -> syncing and UNCHECKED "Disable auto sync", then went to the summary tab and UNCHECKED "Automatically sync" (because it ungreyed out and became checked again after changing the other setting), closed iTunes, connected my iPhone and iTunes stayed closed.
    Hope this works for you.

  • Why does iphoto open automatically when I sync my iphone with my iMac?

I have an iphone 3GS, Version 6.0.1 that I sync with my iMac 10.6.8.  I have updated iTunes (11.0.1).  When I am syncing my iphone, iphoto automatically opens before iTunes, even though the "photos" setting is deselected.  How do I stop this?

Depending on the system if you go to iTunes on an Macintosh ( iTunes >  Preferences > General Preferences > Devices.
Look for an option to check near the bottom called prevent iPod's, iPhones, iPads from automatically syncing.
Windows the only difference is Edit > Preferences.

  • IPhone: iPhoto opens automatically when I connect my iPhone

I am using new 3G iphone and MacBook Pro. Whenever I plug in cable to sync, iPhone opens. This happens even though I am not syncing or using photos in master settings on iTunes. Can anyone explain? Thanks, Gary

Your computer is supposed to recognize your iphone as a digital camera. This is how you get photos off of you iphone and onto your computer.
As noted before you can set your computer to do nothing when a camera (iphone) is connected.

  • When I connect my iPhone, iPhoto opens automatically instead of iTunes

When I connect my Iphone to my MBPro running Snow Leopard, Iphoto opens automatically instead of Itunes. When I manually open Itunes, my Iphone appears in the sidebar as normal, nut how can I change the settings so that Itunes is the default open program for syncing?
    thanks
    Doug

If you don't want iphoto to launch, open the image capture app, & under preferences select what you want to happen when a camera is connected. iPhoto will only launch if you have pics in your camera roll.
When your phone is connected, on the summary page there will be an option to check to open iTunes automatically when iPhone connects.

  • HT1209 I've successfully imported the videos I've shot with my iphone5 into iphoto on my MacBookPro but they're only showing up as still shots, ie the imported videos don't play! Itunes no longer opens automatically when syncing!

I've successfully imported the videos I've shot with my iphone5 into iphoto on my MacBookPro but they're only showing up as still shots, ie the imported videos don't play! Itunes no longer opens automatically when syncing, and when I open itunes it shows that there are zero "home movies" in there, meaning that it never grabbed the videos from my phone either. What to do? Thanks!

    tl:dr?
    Really?
There was a short version expressly for people who weren't bothered to read a myriad of text.
Meh, not that it matters anymore. I ended up redownloading 70-odd albums, so I have the bulk of my music back. And I still have no idea what iTunes did with my files, but I'll make sure it never does it again.
I would thank you for the help but you were utterly useless. Oh well, carry on.

  • How do I get Lightroom to open automatically when I plug my camera in

I'd like Lightroom to open automatically when I plug my dslr into the computer. Is this possible?

    Go to:
    Edit >> Preferences>> General (tab)
Lightroom >> Preferences>> General (tab) on Mac OSX
Check the box: Show import dialog when memory card detected.

  • IPhoto starts automatically when i start my computer!

iPhoto starts automatically when i start my computer, how do i turn this off?! I have a lot of photos on the program so it takes a while to load and bogs down my startup.

Right-click on the iPhoto icon in the dock, and deselect "Open at Login".
Also a handy trick if there ARE programs you want started when you login

  • How to stop iphoto opening automatically.

    Hi everyone,
I have forgotten how to stop iphoto opening up when I put my camera memory card in the reader.
I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and I am now using Photoshop Elements 6 on my Macbook.
Thanks in advance and a happy and healthy New Year from England,
    Alan

    Hi,
Thanks for your quick answer but I managed to do it through Image Capture.
You have to have the camera or reader connected then open Image Capture.
I clicked on the device ( name of card reader ) and in the bottom left I could choose from a drop down menu where I wanted the card to open.
    Thanks again,
    Alan

    Hi r,
It sounds like you're running Lion?
Have you tried running Verify and/or Repair Disk?
Have you tried running Repair Permissions?
Do you have at least 15% free space available on your HD?

  • Since installing 10.5, Itunes will no longer open automatically when I connect my Iphone or insert a CD.  Nor will it, when I insert a CD, recognize the CD unless I close Itunes and open it again.  Any ideas?
