Avoid okular embedded on konqueror

Hi all,
When I click on some links to a pdf file, the pdf is shown through okular which is embedded on konqueror.
How can I set konqueror to let me choose what to do with the file rather than automatically open it in this way?
I use KDEmod 4.2, and I had the same problem with KDE.
I have tried to solve it going to System Settings > Advanced > File Associations> Embedding and changing pdf, x-bzpdf, and x-gzpdf from "Show file in ebedded viewer" to "Show file in separate viewer", but still same problem.
Is there anything else I can do to solve it?
any idea

  • Kaffeine embedded crash fixed when compiled with libxcb support?

    From kaffeine website:
    Embedded Kaffeine crash fixed.
    This long standing bug is now fixed in current svn ...
    In order to make it possible, we have ported Kaffeine and xine to xcb (a thread-safe replacement for xlib).
    You can give it a try right now:
    1) install libxcb=>1.0
    2) install current xine-lib cvs (it contains xcb based video output plugins: xshm and xv)
    2) install current Kaffeine svn
    Notes
    a) Both xine-lib and Kaffeine have to be compiled with xcb support (autodetected, check configure results).
    b) Kaffeine will still work with xlib based video out plugins if compiled without xcb (but then, no fix!)
    From 0.8.4 changelog:
    * xine-part: support for xcb. Requires libxcb 1.0 and xine-lib 1.1.5. Fixes several issues.
    Any reason not to incorporate this? If it lives up to it's promises It could mean kde users only need ONE media player :-)  (I have 2 installed just to get DVD menus and embedding in konqueror without crashing)
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers,
    Steve.

    I felt that the laptop was possibly overheating and that is why I started down the road to call "customer support", thinking that a fan went out or there was damage to hardware due to it over heating.  And that road got me no where in a fast manner, and two "techs" telling me it was a software related issue and that I needed to reformat the laptop (twice) and re-install to factory settings.  Even when I did this, it still had the issue and they again told me that it was software related when there was no software on the computer except for Windows 7.  The only thing that customer support helped me with is the knowledge of next time I buy a laptop, but Dell or any other laptop besides a Toshiba.  That is too bad.
    Anyway, I tried to continue on with my thinking of a possible over heating issue, so I blew air into the vents and fins of the laptop.  A lot of dust came out.  I kept blowing air into the vents until no more dust came.
    My wife had to re-install everything again to her laptop after I got the major items re-installed.  She has been running it for the last day or so with no issues.  We hope that this was the issue.  I know she enjoys the laptop when it was running well.
    I guess we will see how it goes.

  • Preformance tunings

    Hi,
      What are the performance tunings in Xcelsius.

    Hi Ramesh,
    Try to utilize the same component as possible rather than using different components for different situations.
    Use Refresh on load for query that is being used on the very first page and refresh other connections on trigger (when ever required) or use A refresh connection button for this purpose.
    Avoid using embedded pictures (if required use link)
    Minimize the no of components used in the dashboard.
    Try to use less spread sheet pages as possible and if possible minimize the no of rows from the "Preferences" and then Excel Options.
    If the User interaction is more then try to load data on the very first load for as many combinations as possible and then for each interaction use the data available on the excel.
    Give the option of refreshing the data, to user (with the help of Refresh Button)
    Above are among few techniques that we can follow for performance tuning.
    Good Luck & Keep Posting.

  • Quicktime vulnerability - be careful

    I just got this from AusCERT:
    A feature of Apple's QuickTime movie files (.mov) allows
    the execution of arbitrary JavaScript
    Apparently this is being actively exploited (there is worm spreading through MySpace)...
    AusCERT recommends this, until a fix is available from Apple:
    Apple QuickTime does not support an option to prevent HREF
    text tags being honoured, and there is no 'Ask for
    permission' setting. At this stage the only mitigation is
    to disable automatic movie viewing within QuickTime and to
    avoid playing embedded QuickTime media.
    This can be done within QuickTime's System Preferences. In
    the "QuickTime" pane, select the "Browser" tab and
    unselect "Play movies automatically".
    QuickTime users, especially those who use MySpace, should
    apply this mitigation immediately until a more permanent
    fix is found.
    I'd provide a link to the full advisory, but access it for AusCERT members only...
    Cheers
    Steffen.

    I think you're contradicting yourself. It is a MySpace problem because a
    malicious script could come from any other website?
    Yes. The point is, the vulnerability is in MySpace. Any method of sending arbitrary URLs to a web browser can exploit the vulnerability, not merely a QuickTime movie. QuickTime is only implicated because QuickTime was the delivery method used...the delivery method could just as easily have been a malicious script on another web site.
    Yes, the malware can come from any source (not just MySpace). And yes,
    it exploits a flaw in Quicktime (execution of arbitrary Javascript embedded
    in .mov files without prompting). Therefore, it is a Quicktime vulnerability.
    You are assuming that the unprompted execution of arbitrary Javascript is, in fact, a flaw in Quicktime. Quicktime does not execute arbitrary Javascript. Quicktime passes the arbitrary Javascript HREF to the default web browser and the web browser executes the Javascript without prompting. The Javascript is executed without prompting because *that's the way Javascript is supposed to work*. The ability to trigger it from an external application (a QuickTime movie) is a little unconventional, but within the limits of standard procedure...it's just "open browser with URL". As I understand it, this sort of behavior is generally considered 'safe' because of the designed-in limits on Javascript. It can screw up your current browser session, but Javascript isn't going to do any real damage to the local machine.
    The problem is that MySpace is written in such a way that passing arbitrary URLs can do damage to a logged-in account. Merely requiring a valid session ID or user ID in the URL would correct the problem by making it impossible for an arbitrary form URL to change a user's profile. THAT is why is is a MySpace problem and not a QuickTime problem. QuickTime and the various web browsers are only doing what they are designed to do, in the way they are intended to do it.

  • Accessing Data Files

    Hi Guys,?
    I own a Creative Zen Touch 20GB which contains about 0GB of music. I am also convinced I have a bunch of data files - MS Word documents, text files etc - on the dri've also. I have installed all of the drivers from the website but when I go to Windows Explorer for the device, it is only showing me the music - both mp3 and wav - but not documents.
    Anyone know how to get these up? In Windows Explorer it shows as an "Audio Device". I would like to see it as a hard dri've....then I think the files will appear.
    TIA,?
    Aidso

    Thanks for the quick replies.  Ironically, I had already visited the HP support site and read the thread highlighted above, and attempted the fix using 7-zip.   Sadly, I can't find a site to download this or other suggested apps that (according
    to site-posted reviews) aren't infected with malware, viruses, browser-hijackers and the like, or that are from "untrusted publishers".  I contacted several computer repair companies regionally and offered to purchase this type of software to avoid the
    embedded stuff, but apparently that isn't an option.
    Thanks as well for the tip regarding the extended value of the backed-up data over time.  The most-valued data I was backing up is not operation-critical, but is personal stuff like digital camera-created pictures and MS Word documents.
    I am still looking for a trusted and clean source of software to use to manipulate the data in these swm files, probably in vain.  Not at all impressed with HP's product or support.

  • Avoid rendering of (view,component Usage embedded on TAB) on Timed Trigger

    Hi,
       I have a WD application build based on header ( icons; normal label; input elements ) , a timed trigger and a tab strip which has 3 tabs. The 3 tabs have View container element for whcih i am attaching 3 views of the same component .  TAB A part which i am viewing holds a image. The Timed Trigger is needed to enable icon on the header. This is happening well after my delay time of 60 SECS. But this one is having impact of regenerating the image again ( due to the rendering ) which is not at all required.  I want to have the rendering only for the above header part only.   But as i heard from Thomas post that after the phase cycle is done. rendering loads all the views, component usages embedded for the VIEW.
    conditonally i am doing the action of CANCEL NAVIGATION in WDDOBEFORENAVIGATION  when Timed Trigger fires.Due to this one i could avoid the MODIFYVIEW calls of the respective views embedded; but i could not avoid the rendering of the IMAGE ( TAB A ).
    Is there any way to avoid the rendering on those tabs part ( 3 views embedded ). I could see that DELTA rendering is enabled for my sap version but it would be not much help.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Satish A.

    Hi Alex.
    I already tried this. But a bit different. One of my component should have different entry views. So I defined multiple interface inbound plugs in the window of the subcomponent. In the corresponding (inbound) handler methods of the window I fired corresponding outbound plugs which were connected to different views. The main component had different links which were connected to the corresponding interface inbound plugs of the embedded component.
    When I clicked the first link, the correct view of the subcomponent was shown. When I then clicked the next link which should show another view of the same subcomponent the corresponding inbound handler was called but no navigation was done.
    Now when I rest the component before navigating everything works fine.
    But thanks for the hint.
    Cheers,
    Sascha

  • Avoid adjustment when printing from Okular

    Hi,
    I've written some documents in LaTeX and noticed that when I print the PDF from Okular, the alignment of the page is wrong and the margin on the left is bigger than the one on the right. Also, the top and bottom margins are wrong, too. When watching the file on the screen everything is fine and even.
    I then installed the Acrobat Reader and printed the file again, leaving every adjustment option unmarked and the output is fine.
    So, is there a way to avoid site adjustment in Okular? I couldn't find any options regarding this problem.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Embedding a flash file (don't know version & also need to avoid PC warning dialogues): what's the latest correct way?

    Problem: I've had a flash Christmas card created for a client
    by a designer. Before I can forward it to the client I want to
    embed it in a html page for them. The designer doesn't know how to
    do this (I wish I'd known before I commissioned them) and also told
    me they don't know what version of Flash created the file. They
    think it was 4 or 5. Eh? Whatever. I went to Adobe's site expecting
    that somewhere there would be a page providing the cut and paste
    code for this, but if there is such a page, it's impossible to find
    by an average person! So I tried cutting and pasting some code I
    found on a blog which discussed that Microsoft and created an
    update that caused all sorts of dialogue windows to appear before a
    flash file could be played e.g. "Click to activative this file",
    but that this new code would overcome them. Whatever. Pasted the
    code. Worked fine in a Mac browser, and on some PC browsers it
    didn't play, or the dialogue windows appeared and had to be clicked
    through before the file could be played. Am now officially tearing
    my eyebrows out. Could someone very kindly please paste or direct
    me to the embedding code that: plays a flash file of any version
    AND which overcomes any stupid PC dialogue windows. And Adobe: not
    everyone is a ******** navigational genius. Please put a link to
    this information on the first page of your Support page. Asking it
    as a question in the search box doesn't provide the simple
    answer!

    How to use Migration Assistant to transfer files from another Mac
    If you only need to transfer files then connect the two via Firewire cable and use Target Disk Mode to access the old computer's hard drive from which you can select and copy the data you need.
    Office 2008 will work, but it would be better to upgrade it to Office 2011. If you want a seamless changeover with respect to the iDevices, then you need to transfer the entire /Home/Library/Music/iTunes/, /Home/Library/Music/iTunes Playlists/, /Home/Library/Music/imm Media/ folders to the /Music/ folder of the new computer. Also copy over the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.itunes.plist file to the /Home/Library Preferences/ folder on the new computer.
    Be sure you de-authorize the old computer: iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization. Be sure to do this before any of the above is done.
    Firewire, we don't have any of those cables and devices unless the new MacBook comes with it? It's all USB(2). Can we use USB (yes, it is slower)?  He use it for digital cameras, Time Machine backups in Mac OS X 10.5.8, etc.
    OK, I will tell my client to get a new Office 2011 then to avoid the mess. Hmm, can't we just synchronize our iDevices with iTunes to copy back to the new MacBook's new HDD?

  • What do i have to do to avoid "loading flash" when embedding video in pdf?

    I can embed h.264 video in pdf via acrobat pro or inDesign.
    However, there's always a moment of waiting, Acrobat Background color flashes up,
    before the movie is finally loaded and played back.
    I have seen Tutorials where this doesn't occur,
    but no difference seeable from what i do.
    Any ideas how to avoid this behaviour that occurs however i embed the video.
    Second problem: When i play the mebedded video in the full size of the presentation
    it kind of gets stuck on the slide. You have to hit the arrow button several times
    until at some point it actually advances to a random slide further down the presentation.
    My computer is very powerfull and i use the newest InDesign CC and Acrobat XI.
    I read all the help and i do what Adobe says i should do.
    Is it possible that Adobe just can't handle Video in PDF on a professional level??
    Any hints on how to make this look right is appreciated!
    best
    Stefan

    Adobe's promotion of Rich Media in PDF has reduced of late, it's no longer a headline feature for the Acrobat team (though the Frame guys seem addicted to it). Flash within "documents" is a legacy concept - sorry but that's just how it is. More and more people are consuming documents on devices or apps which cannot and will never support Flash/JavaScript/etc. that it's ruining the core principle of PDF - namely that a page looks the same to everyone.
    Adobe's decision is that media-enabled interactive files (called "publications", not documents) are now the domain of HTML5 (Edge, Muse, etc) or native apps (DPS). That's where the development is being concentrated.

  • Avoid "Embedded Subset" in PDF when embedding fonts

    Hi,  I am preparing documents according to a requirement for which "When embedding fonts, all characters for the font should be embedded, not just a subset of the fonts being used in the document."
    When creating the document with Acrobat 6 (or Acrobat XI) even if  'Adobe PDF Settings' include specifications
    - Embed all fonts: checked
    - Subset embedded fonts when ...: unchecked
    - List of Fonts to never Embed: null
    (Compatibility: Acrobat 5.0, version 1.4)
    the result is that the produced PDF includes all fonts with the specification '(Embedded Subset)'.
    How to configure 'Adobe PDF Settings' from Word so that in all cases the 'full' font is embedded?

    Hi,
    thank you for your answer! I am still puzzled though.
    It sounds strange that an option is included in 'Adobe PDF Settings'
    - Subset embedded fonts when ...: unchecked
    and this is not executed when the PDF is created.
    According to your experience "certain types of fonts can only be embedded as subsets". Is there a list of the fonts that are not embedded as full font?
    I have read that "Some fonts have a 'do not embed' flag which is a copyright restriction from the vendor of the font".
    Can this be the reason for "subset embedding" instead of "full" font embedding?
    Many thanks in advance for any other feedback,
    also concerning actual enforcement of the requirement for full font embedding (by the FDA),

  • How to avoid embedded loops?

    Hi All,
    I am not an expert and dealing with a performance issue. When a debugged the code I figured that a embedded loop was causing the performance issue and I am looking for analternative way to write that piece of the code.
    The code is:
    loop at SOURCE_PACKAGE assigning <source_fields>.
      loop at i_t_d032 into i_l_d032 where
             /bic/zfield1 = <source_fields>-/bic/zfield1 and
             /bic/zfield2 =  <source_fields>-/bic/zfield2 and
              /bic/zfield3 =  <source_fields>-/bic/zfield3 and
              /bic/zfield4 <= <source_fields>-/bic/zfield4 .
        delete SOURCE_PACKAGE.
        exit.
      endloop.
    endloop.
    FYI - I_t_d032 has 30 million records.
    I apprciate your help.

    Hi,
    First check that i_t_d032 is fetched only once for entire LUW ( per one instance) i.e. the same select query to fill this internal table i_t_d032  shouldnt be repeated for every data package -source package for a particuklar load.
    Second Declare i_t_d032  type sorted table with non unique key as /bic/zfield1 /bic/zfield2 /bic/zfield3 /bic/zfield4.
    Then instead of loop you use read table with table key. This might improve 30 % of time taken usually without sorted table.
    loop at SOURCE_PACKAGE assigning <source_fields>.
    Read table i_t_d032 into i_l_d032 with table key  /bic/zfield1 = <source_fields>-/bic/zfield1
    /bic/zfield2 = <source_fields>-/bic/zfield2
    /bic/zfield3 = <source_fields>-/bic/zfield3
    /bic/zfield4 <= <source_fields>-/bic/zfield4 .
    If sy-subrc eq 0.
    delete SOURCE_PACKAGE.
    endif.
    endloop.

  • Mov WAIT to start if embedded in HTML

    Hi all,
    I've a large mov (about 250MB) embedded in a HTML page and delivered on CD-ROM.
    I don't know why if I start the mov from the Quicktime Player (double clic on the mov file) the mov starts fast, but If I navigate to the html page that embed the mov, the movie starts after many seconds (almost 20 seconds).
    This happens the first time I run the mov and on Internet Explorer (in Firefox it seems ok). I don't know on MAC.
    It seems that the mov starts when it's been fully read by the player, I've thought it could be for OBJECT or EMBED TAGS, but I've not found info about this problem... I've tried to use "qtsrcdontusebrowser" tag, but I've no success.
    Is there someone who knows why there's this difference of performance between the QT stand alone player and the Browser plugin?
    How can I solve it?
    Thanks in advance
    Federico

    Thanks
    but as I've written I don't publish that on web but on CD-Rom.
    I don't know why in Quicktime Player the movie starts fast but in the QT Browser Plugin it requires so much more time, even if both read from the same CD-Rom.
    Maybe Quicktime Player and Quicktime Browser Plugin play mov in different ways, so at the moment I've used the "target Quicktimeplayer" TAG to run the Player and avoid the problem, even if I'm looking for a better solution to start it into the HTML page.
    Still waiting for hints
    Thanks

  • Adding local artwork to tracks in itunes without embedding

    hi
    i am new to itunes, having recently switched from a PC to a Mac, and am trying to add artwork to tracks in my itunes library. all of my artwork is stored in each album folder. the images are typically 300-400kb each (i want high quality artwork for fullscreen playback so have scanned my CD covers) and i have multiple artwork for some albums, so would rather avoid embedding artwork as this could increase the size of an album folder by several MBs. i am aware of the Album Artwork folder for non-embedded itunes artwork that is accessed using the 'get album artwork' feature in itunes 7, but this only seems to work for getting album artwork from the itunes store, which i don't want to do as i already have better quality artwork on my local hard drive. so does anyone know a way of getting images into the Album Artwork folder from a local drive in such a way that they will be recognised in itunes?
    thanks
    nick.

    Check this out ->

    this method works for adding single artwork images to each album, placing them in the Album Artwork folder as itc files, but for some reason the images aren't picked up for the Cover Version visualisation. And because i want to have more than one image for most of my albums, i think i am going to have to embed all art, unless anyone has any other ideas.

  • How to tell embedded jinitator applet is still running when window closed

    Hello, we are trying to accomplish the same thing that is mentioned in this post from Metalink. I've searched for a solution and hope someone here can help. How to tell embedded jinitator applet is still running when window closed
    Hi,
    We run an oracle 10g forms application through 9iAS over an intranet. All users are running windows 2000 professional.
    We run separate frame = true but I would like to switch to separate frame = false
    With separate frame = true if the user clicks the outer windows "X" close button (forms mdi window) the user is prompted to save changes before the application ends.
    BUT
    when using separate frame = false
    If the user clicks the upper window "X" button (no longer form mdi window but regular browser window) the window and application is abruptly closed.
    I'm interested in using a onbeforeunload function to confirm if the user wants to close the window. This would be placed in the basejini.htm file. This could always ask if the user wants to exit or not. If they click OK then the window closes but if they click "Cancel" you are returned to the forms application exactly where you left. something like event.returnvalue="do you really want to exit?";
    However if the user exited using the normal exit form method then the applet is already closed before the onbeforeunoad event fires and there is nothing to go back to and I want the window to close automatically. This is accomplished using close.html file in post forms trigger.
    So what I want and what I think many may also want is the check if the embedded applet is still running and if so prompt the user to return to the application or continue to close. Of course If the applet is no longer running then just close because there is no reason confirm closing anymore.
    Does anyone have a html/JavaScript solution that can be placed in the jinitiator.htm file? or similar?
    Thank you

    I don't know if this is exactly what you are after but you can add the following to the top of your basejini.htm file and it should prompt the user before exiting the IE window.
    <BODY %HTMLbodyAttrs%>
    %HTMLbeforeForm%
    <SCRIPT>
    <!--
    window.onbeforeunload = unloadApplet;
    function unloadApplet(){
    message = "Warning! Please exit the Java Applet prior to

    From: David Wilton 07-Oct-05 14:37
    Subject: Re : How to tell embedded jinitator applet is still running when window closed
    Thank you for your reply and yes you did not understand my question fully.
    Sorry if this is a long reply
    I am able to close the browser window using information in notes 115905.1 and 201481.1, this is not the issue. We implemented this several years ago. It is workable for both separate frame = true or false.
    It is most important to not allow the user to end their forms application by closing the windows browser, they must close using normal form exit commands.
    What I want is to have separate frame = false, the big drawback to this option is the user can exit the application and bypass all forms code by pressing the windows "X" close button. This is why we need the code as just provided by Andrew Lenton above in this thread.
    BUT Andrew's code will always prompt the user before closing the window and I do not want that. I want the user to be prompted only under scenario 2 listed below.
    Here's the 2 case scenario for exiting the application.
    1. If the user closes properly and uses exit form which fires all normal form triggers including post_form with it's call to close.html file.
    All uncommitted changes are saved or rollback and the users session is ended normally both on the database and in the application server.
    All browser windows will close, great all is good. And without Andrew's code the window will close but with Andrew's code the user will be prompted to close or not, if they select Cancel the window will remain but the applet has already ended so why prompt? ...This is what I want to avoid.
    2. In the forms app. if the user clicks the windows "X" close button with uncommitted changes. The browser just closes the changes are rollback without prompting the user to save. The users sessions are now lost and still running in the database and application server until they are timed out.
    If I use Andrew's code then the user will be prompted to continue to close or go back, if they click Cancel to go back then focus returns to the forms application and the user can continue to work. If the user clicks OK then the window closes and unfortunately their sessions are still lost until timed out.
    So what I desire is to add to Andrew's code to check if the embedded applet is still running and prompt the user to close or not accordingly.
    Something like:
    Basejini.htm like
    </HEAD>
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
    function maximizeWindow()
    window.moveTo(0,0);
    window.resizeTo(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight);
    function confirm(){
    If(document.embeddedapplet.closed())
    Win.opener = self;
    win.close();
    Else if
    event.returnValue = "Closing Forms Application. OK to continue?";
    </SCRIPT>
    <BODY %HTMLbodyAttrs%, onload="maximizeWindow()", onbeforeunload="confirm()">
    %HTMLbeforeForm%
    I hope this explains my requirements.

    I'm sorry this is not helpful at all.
    Note 199928.1 is only an alert which does not stop the closing of the window and still displays as an alert if the user does close properly using exit form ... so why would you want to display the alert then?
    This is exaclty what I do not want and why I want to determine if the applet is still running before displaying any kind of message.

    Closing thread.
    Thanks,

    Hello,
    I had the same issue last year - wanting to provide a warning on closing the browser, but only if the Forms session is still running. The approach I took is described below, see also the thread where I originally posted this at Closing brower window
    Hi there,I've had a similar requirement - or rather, the two conflicting requirements: to warn when the browser is being closed, but for the app to be able to close the browser without a warning being fired.
    To always provide a warning when someone (the user or the Forms app) tries to go to a different page (e.g. your close.htm), use Javascript like:
    function confirmExit(){
    if(appletRunning==true) {
    msg="Closing this window or navigating to another page will end your SomeGreatApp session.";
    window.event.returnValue=msg;
    And make a call to confirmExit() in the onBeforeUnload event of your main page.
    You'll notice I first check an 'appletRunning' variable before displaying the warning. This Javascript variable is set to true by my app when it starts up, using an embedded Javabean that calls out to Javascript. Once that variable is set to true, then the warning will be displayed if the user tries to shut the browser by clicking on the 'x' button, or to go to a different URL.
    When my app is shutting down, it uses the same Javabean to set appletRunning back to false. It then navigates to a close.htm - which will be done without a warning being displayed.
    See Re: How can a Javabean call Javascript function of the basejpi.html?? for example code on how to call Javascript from a bean embedded in your Forms app.
    Hope these ideas help you out, it's worked for me (so far, anyway!!)
