Avoided poor internet connection

Just bought an Android phone and it doesn't connect to my WOW network wifi. Very shortly after saying it is connected, it comes back with the message: "Avoided poor internet connection." I do not have this problem with any of my other wifi connected devices: iPhones, iPad, Dell laptops, TVs, ...

Do you have smart wifi enabled? It will use OTA data if it detects a weak wifi signal versus cellular service. Turning it off forces the use of wifi, no matter the signal strength.

  • Poor internet connectivity through WRT160N

I bought and installed a WRT160N v.3 router about 3 months ago and all was fine.  Recently, however, very poor internet connectivity has been experienced from my other 2 computers connected via wireless.  Last night I upgraded the firmware (actuallly Linksys tech) and it appeared at first to fix the problem.  Unfortunately, it didn't.  The same problem continues on both computers.  I have since done a hard reset and started from default parameters, but that didn't help either.
This appears to be a common problem, but I haven't seen a complete fix.
I have a Comcast cable internet connection and a speed test done on the hardwired computer gives the expected download/upload speeds (~20MBps and 8 MBps).  Through the wireless connection to the WRT160N is another story.  Speeds are less than 0.5MB!
    Any suggestions???

Well, I think I solved my problem.  I had the router set-up with WEP encryption and was getting very poor internet connections on my wireless PCs.  After trying a miriad of fixes found on this site and others, I decided to go to a unprotected network set-up.  I was amazed to see my wireless connectivty jump to the expected speeds for my Comcast cable connection.
Has anyone heard of WEP causing a slowdown in connectivity?
Guess I will try the other security set-ups to see if I can get fast connectivity and a secure network.

  • ICloud Disaster with Poor internet connection

i have been working on a document for a day while Internet connection ok. Today it is poor and while working on Pages document on iPad Air connection was slow. I turned off Icloud assuming I could work on document on ipad locally.
I have now lost ALL today's work.
it seems using iOS devices is totally dependent on good connections to icloud
How can I use ipad, iphone iwork apps when iCloud not available and update when it is.
This is going to be a nightmare when travelling.

Firstly, I think it is worth attempting to break this down into two parts: Is it the wireless or the wired part of the network which is causing the problem.
Is it possible to temporarily connect the Mac directly to your cablemodem/whatever via Ethernet, and check the speeds you get? It could just be that your ISP is overloaded and its throughputs are significantly slower than advertised. Googling for bandwith test should give you some sites that let you test download speeds.
If that's OK then its time to look at the airlink. Who is the ISP? What equipment (make/model) have they supplied you with?

We have a modem and wireless router setup in our house. The PC Laptop connects wirelessly and gets a fair internet speed. The Mac Laptop on wireless however gets a very very poor internet speed over the network. Any ideas why this is so?
The speed increases a bit when I hook the mac laptop directly up to the modem via cable, but the wireless is the problem...

  • Problem recording to FMS when client has poor internet connection

    Hi,
I am trying to implement a simple system that allows users of our website to leave an audio message.  The audio recording tutorial shows a simple example of using the NetStream class to "publish" the audio stream to the FMS.  During testing, many of the recordings were cut cropped (missing bits from the beggining or end), ended prematurely or had skips.  This happens almost always when the user's internet connection isn't particularly good or is a little unreliable.
Is there anyway to resolve this, short of demanding our users guarantee us they have a perfect internet connection (which is unrealisitc).  Is there a way for the stream to be cached locally and published to the FMS to increase tolerance to connectivity issues?
Any help or advice would be appreciated
    thanks

  • How to solve poor internet connection for iPad New due to bugs or glitch in ios6

I m using iPad New with ios6 version. Since the upgrade I m facing a very serious internet connection for my ipad. Its worthless to have ipad when there is no internet connection or having difficulty to get the connection. Can someone give me some advice even up to the stage if downgrading to the previous version which is known to be working very well.

First, presumably your WiFi network is connected to the Internet right? However, even if so, you may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
Your router may not have given your iPad a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the "i" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Do not reset your router. Next, reset network settings on your iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

  • Poor internet connectivity

Just purchased new 2011 MacBook Pro, and find it performs very poorly with wireless internet in my home. My old iBook and a PC laptop I have both have no problem picking up the signal from my preferred location, downstairs from the wireless router. But the new MacBook Pro, despite showing four bars, is so slow, some urls time out before the connection is made.
Has Apple somehow downgraded the power of the internal modem in making this machine more compact? If so, can it be improved with some add-on?

Well then, if any of you have AppleCare, please open a case number with Apple. A reminder:
You have AppleCare free for the first 90 days from date of purchase.
You can report hardware issues free for the first year from date of purchase.
You can purchase an extended AppleCare program anytime in the first year from date of computer's purchase that covers both hardware and software for three years from date of computer's purchase.
The number to call AppleCare varies by country listed below:
    http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
If you have called, and issued a bug report, you've done all you can for now. Otherwise we need to look at OpenDNS, interference of land line wireless phones, cell phones, microwaves, other wireless networks in the vicinity, proximity to router (if you are less than 5 feet from a router, it can have its own interference patterns, keep router more than 5 feet away, but less than 150 feet), number of devices on the router, if connecting directly to a modem that has no router capability fixes the issue, if turning off the router capability of a modem/router combo fixes the issue, and if OpenDNS helps, if removing the DNS numbers entirely help. All these are possibilities. If you look at long threads, there is no way to isolate these issues. Encourage people to start their own thread here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1297&start=0
With very specific indication of which router, modem, models they are using. Find out if they are using DHCP, PPPoE, PPPoA, Static IP, Cable, FiOS (fiberoptic), satellite, or DSL. Find out the number of computers they are connecting to. Find out if they have tried to limit to one computer. I and other Level 4/5 people are unlikely to be able to help if other people intrude on a thread because it is just going to lead to confusion as to who will get help, and who has been helped by the solutions.

  • Updated to ML=poor Internet connection

Ever since I updated to ML, Safari only connects to the Internet some of the time.  My Wifi connection always shows full bars though.  To help connect, I restart or shutdown the machine, but this only helps some of the time.  Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

When you try to connect to your wireless network from your PC's are you getting any error message or they simply doesn't connect to your wireless network..? Try to change the settings mentioned below and check if that make your PC's go online wirelessly...
Login to the Setup page of your Router and click on the Wireless Tab :
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbors network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 50,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2201,Change the RTS Threshold to 2202 and Click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Poor internet connection

We have a Westell 327w and it cannot handle more than one computer accessing the internet at the same time.  I understand that the more hosts that access the same connection the bandwidth is split up but when just 2 hosts are connected one streaming video and the other engaged in online game play the connection is barely past 1 mbps down and .02 mbps up.  Would a new gateway help or a new ISP?

With just one computer running and no other applications on the computer running, what speed test result do you get when you perform a speed test at http://testmy.net/ ? Use the server selector at the top right corner of the page to choose your region first.
What I need to know is your download and upload rate in Kbps or Mbps. You can screenshot, copy/paste, or share the results.

  • Poor internet connectivity of Lumia 520

    Hi,
I'm using a Lumia 520 in India. My mobile network is BSNL South - 3G. It is noticed with great displeasure that my Lumia 520 phone has a very very poor data reception. In our area, the mobile network is not stable. The signal strength varies all the time. Data transfer is not at all possible on 2G. Lumia phones have only two 'Highest connection speed' settings - 2G and 3G. I do select the 3G (HSPDA) mode to connect to the net. Phone starts downloading the data. Soon, most often with in two minutes, as the signal strength varies, phone automatically switches over to 2G (EDGE) mode. Also, during this process, phone goes back to standby screen, closing the explorer. Add to this, nokia has provided a 'BACK' button, but no 'FORWARD'! The application has to be opened againg to complete all the done steps, for another trial!  It is totally annoying that I couldn't even browse Nokia customer care site to lodge this comment!
Five of my friends gave up their Lumia phones and changed to Samsung Galaxy due to this complaint. Nokia is loosing the market here due to these minor problems. My Nokia N8 has 2G/3G/Dual options and had no problem with the same network. I was preparing to exchange my N8 with a Lumia 1020 or 1520, but dropped it, being tired and fooled by this Lumia 520 experience.
I've contected Nokia care and Priority dealer in my town - Kottayam, Kerala, India to fix the problem. Please note that the Nokia Care here has a 'don't care' attitude! They deal as the mistake was with the customers who purchased the Lumia and recommends to use it in the AS IS WHERE IS condition, if they want to!
Also, I wonder what was in your mind when developing a key pad with out left/right ARROW KEYS !
    Recommendations:
    1. Update softwate to provide maximum net speed - 3G,2G (Manual) and DUAL (Automatic) options.
    2. Provide arrow keys and Delete key in the key pad.
    3. Offer better service through 'Nokia service'

Again, as I already said, I couldn't connect to Nokia site. So I had written this post from my desktop an my phone turned waste. I've owned 3310, 7300, N95 and N8, from 2000 onwards, when mobile transmission started in Kerala. None of these phones made me dissatisfied. Still now, I'm a proud owner of my N8.

  • Poor Internet Connection/Have to keep resetting the modem

For the past two months our internet service has been terrible.  I've had numerous phone calls with Verizon tech support and had two technicians visit our house.  Needless to say, after all new wiring in our house, updating the lines outside our house, and a new modem I still have to reset the modem several times a day and then when the internet does work it is extremely slow.  The technician said my house and my neighbor's house don't even show on the grid for our local Verizon office and that the problem is somewhere between our road and their office........so how does that get fixed?  Apparently the lines are too busy and it just keeps kicking us off.  Has anyone else experienced a problem like this?  I work part time from home and rely on my internet service.  I also don't have the time to contact Verizon every single day!  Help!

    Hi country105,
Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. • Poor internet connection and service

I have had constant problems with my dsl. I was told when I signed up I would have 1.5 speed. I either have low speed or get disconnected and have to wait almost an hour to connect again. The best on any given day is 864kps. Sometimes it drops to 54 with a max of 254. I have called numerous times. Get the same questions asked over and over. I have had 3 techs come out to the house and after they leave, say it should be fixed. I called again 2 weeks ago because I am still having connection problems. A tech was suppose to come out to the house again. I made an appointment. I was called by their dispatch and the tech never showed up. After I called again they said they had no record of repair request. What do I do?

DSL only works up to 18,000ft from the Central Office unless you are on a Pair Gain system from a Remote Terminal. To get 1.5 service you need to be about 15.000ft or less. It sounds like you are either too far or you have a metallic line issue on the copper pair. You definitely need a tech to fix your problem.

  • Poor internet connection and frequent router restarts

I have been experiencing frequent issues with my Internet service over the last 2 months. When it first started I had to reset  my router 4-6 times a day. Otherwise I would have a strong wireless signal but no Internet access. I changed the automatic channel selection to a lower channel and it seemed to be fine for about 2 weeks. I figured that I was getting some sort of interference. Now I have noticed that the problem has returned. I also have noticed much slower speeds.
Does anyone have any ideas? Should I ask for a replacement router? It seems that there are many similar issues posted on the forums with few successful results.
    Thanks for the help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Gotcha. So since it appears to only be Wireless, definitely consider changing the channel again. If other routers have Auto Channel selection on, they may be "stopping by" and using the same channel once again that you are using. I recommend using Vistumbler or InSSIDer to scan for Wi-Fi networks nearby you and choosing channels 1, 6, or 11, whichever has less networks on it to use. Some folks have found that using the other channels I did not mention have helped in some circumstances. Whatever you do though, keep the auto channel selection disabled since that has been found to be a source of disconnects itself.
If no amount of changing the channel helps but Wired access remains rock solid, then I would start to consider any devices you may have added onto your network since the program began, and perhaps software updates too if you have any tablets or smartphones on the network. If nothing has changed since the problem began, then it doesn't hurt to ask for another Wireless router from Verizon to replace your current, possibly problematic router.
I've seen in some cases too where WEP and WPA security have caused issues with certain devices when used which have caused disconnects. It wouldn't hurt to try moving to WPA2 security if it's available in your router to see if that helps since most newer devices work quite well with it, not to mention the higher level of security.
if nothing is working, then there's a good chance there is a "hidden interferer" in the mix. These could include any devices you or your neighbors might have set up such as Wireless access ponts and repeaters, cordless phones, baby monitors, bluetooth devices, microwaves and so on that use the very crowded and noisy 2.4Ghz band.
