Avoiding duplicaterd photos

Hi to all ...
When I'm importing photos from disk and rename them simultaneously, having selected " don't re import suspected duplicates ", does Lightroom takes in to account their original file name or the rename one ?
Ever ?
Lots of thanks in advance,
Miguel Garcia

It looks at the capture time and the original filename I believe. Renaming during import doesn't matter. It should still not import duplicates.

You can't delete it from your purchased list, as that is permanently maintained by the iTunes store.  You can, however, prevent it from appearing in your song list by going to Settings>iTunes & App Store and turning off Music under Show All.

You can use one of these applications to identify and remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when one library has been imported into another with iPhoto 8 and earlier.
PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.

  • Can I prevent iPhoto 11 from downloading my Flickr photos?

I'm very pleased to see that uploading photos to Flicker via iPhoto 11 works an awful lot better than it did with iPhoto 9. I still don't like the fact that it's synced - I would prefer it to just upload - but I think I can live with it.
What I can't live with, is iPhoto downloading photos from Flickr that I uploaded by other means in the past (ie via the website and Uploadr on a Windows PC). I noticed it was doing this by hitting the right arrow key while viewing the last photo in the Photos view and all these random old photos (which I haven't imported into iPhoto yet) popped up. When I view the information for these photos all that displays is one sentence: "This photo was downloaded from your Flickr account." (None of the metadata I manually entered on Flickr has been downloaded with the image.)
How do I stop this from happening? I already have the photos iPhoto is downloading from Flickr elsewhere on my SSD. SSD space is valuable so I don't want duplicates of these photos.
I tried deleting one of the offending photos in iPhoto and it disappeared from Flickr. I tried moving the original files out of the iPhoto package file and they don't seem to disappear from Flickr but they show up in iPhoto as errors. Rebuilding the library does not clear these errors.
Only 2 of the 121 sets I uploaded to Flickr before I started using iPhoto have been downloaded so far and my guess is that's because I opened the sets in iPhoto (to see what would happen). Can anyone confirm if this is correct? If I avoid opening any more old Flickr sets in iPhoto will that avoid the photos being downloaded to my SSD?
Otherwise, if iPhoto is slowly but surely going to download all my old Flickr photos, I will end up with about 7-9GB of duplicated files which I absolutely do not want.
If I want to stop syncing because of this issue, is there a way to remove the conncetion between iPhoto 11 and Flickr without losing any photos from Flickr? Including both photos I have uploaded without iPhoto (2006-2012) and with iPhoto (2012 onwards).
Many many thanks in advance for your help!

Welp, evidently I just like the sound of my own voice so here's one last post on the topic.
This whole thing was seriously driving me crazy so here's what I've done:
Went to http://www.flickr.com/account/sharing/ ---> Account links ---> edit
Next to "iPhoto OS X" clicked "Remove permission?" & confirmed at the next step
My understanding is that because I've revoked permission on Flickr's side, iPhoto doesn't have the power to wipe anything from Flickr now. I think this means I can also remove the account on iPhotos's side, and maybe even those duplicate photos it downloaded, but I'm not brave enough to test either of those out yet.
Moving forward, I think I'm going to use Flickery (http://www.flickeryapp.com) to upload my photos to Flickr instead: this means I can edit everything in iPhoto, add all the titles/descriptions/tags in iPhoto, then just do a one way upload using Flickery instead of a two way sync from iPhoto.

  • Difficulty in transferring photos from camera

Since the last software update, why can I no longer upload images from my digital camera to my Macbook using Iphoto ? The laptop does no seem to recognise the camera or memory card.

Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try from there.  If it works then reboot normally and try again.
If those fail you can use a card reader to upload the photos from the memory card or use Image Capture with the camera connected to the Mac.
Don't let iPhoto delete the photos from the card.  Always do that with the camera.  This avoids loosing photos if the upload to iPhoto goes south.

  • Delete single photos in photostream

How do I delete one og more pictures from photostream?
I've already found out that I can delete my entire photostream "library".
But it should be possible to mark and delete 1 or more photos.
Does anybody know how to do that?
If it's not possible: APPLE pls. fix it
    Thanks

All of these posts are correct, and offer good insight into both the working & the limitations of photostream
The ways to avoid 'bad' photos ending up in the stream will all work, but they are quite an ineffecient way to do things.
You really have 2 options now
    1) Just put up with bad, blurry photos in your stream & move on with life
    2) Turn photo stream OFF most of the time, & turn it on only when you really want to show off some photos.
Until Apple allows the ability to indivudually delete photos from the stream, there's nothing else you can do.
Also, was just thinking. If you turn Photosteam off & delete its contents, THEN turn it back on again, will it fill the stream up with the last 30 days of photos currently on your camera roll? Or will it only add photos to the stream when you start taking new photos on your iphone camera?

  • Loss of photo stream when changing iCloud E-Mail

I switched e-mail providers. My Apple ID was changed months ago with no problem.
Today I wanted to enter the correct e-mail address for iCloud. I followed the instructions of several posts on here and made the change on my iPod touch. (Also have and iPhone and iPad.) I clicked on merge as I was instructed to when restarting the account with the new e-mail address. However only 143 of almost 1,000 photos re-appeared in photo stream.
I'm not going to change the information on the iPhone or iPad until I can get this figured out.
    Comments? Suggestions?
    Thanks,

iCloud only keeps photo stream photos for 30 days, even though up to 1000 photos will remain on your devices until deleted.  When you re-enabled photo stream you only received photo stream photos from the last 30 days as older photos are no longer in iCloud.
To change your iCloud ID, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the new ID.  This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your device, but not from iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account, your iCloud data will reappear on your device when you sign back in.
However, to avoid losing photo stream photos, before deleting the account save them to your camera roll (if not already there).  To do this, open your my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll.  Be sure to do this on your other devices first.
To get the missing photos back on your iPod, create a shared photo stream that includes them on one of your other devices and invite yourself as a subscriber (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmc0cd7e99).

  • Photo's via photostream to PC?

I have 1000 photo's on my ipad in photostream. I installed iCloud correctly on my PC.There is a folder Photostream on my PC  but there are no photos pushed to this folder? What did I do wrong?

While photos in a device's photo stream album remain, the photos in the photo stream server in icloud remain for up to 30 days.  So if you recently added photo stream to your pc and the stream photos in icloud are over 30 days and thus have been automatically deleted, your pc won't have any stream photos synced to it.  The only way to get ipad photos in the camera roll back in photo stream is to view each one and press the home and power buttons quickly to take a picture of the screen.  That will put the photo in the stream again, but at screen resolution, which is much lower than the native ipad camera.
Are you sure the photos aren't on your pc in some other folder?  It is always recommended that photos be synced to a computer just as you sync photos from a camera to a computer for storage.  Do that with your ipad as well.  If you haven't been doing that regularly, I'd recommend that you do so in order to avoid losing photos.

  • I lost access to my email account quite a while ago.  I don't remember what password I had on it.  Even though it says everywhere else what my apple id is in the link that comes up you  can't change it

I lost access to my email account quite a while ago.  I don't remember what the old pass word is.  My I cloud account under my email settings is correct.  My phone set up fine, but when I set my ipad up, it comes up with old email address.  In the email settings the icloud is correct.  But it will not let me change it in the part I need to.  It is greyed out.  This is actually for the iphone 5.

If you're running iOS 6, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the new ID.  This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your device, but not from iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account, your iCloud data will reappear on your device when you sign back in.
To avoid losing photo stream photos, save them to your camera roll (if not already there) before deleting the account.  To do this, open your my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll.

  • I changed my Apple ID a while ago but my iPad is asking for the old one to set up iCloud?

I changed my Apple ID a while ago because I got a new email address, and it works fine when I am downloading apps or music etc. but I just got the iOS 6 update on my iPad and it's asking for the password to my old apple ID to set up iCloud, iMessage, and FaceTime. I followed the steps to reset my password, but it's not working because its asking about the old email address and I can't seem to change it. It's an optional step but I'd like to be able to have this stuff set up on my iPad. Thanks for the help!

If you need to change the ID for iMessage, go to Settings>Massages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you need to change the ID for FaceTime, do the same thin in Settings>FaceTime.
If you need to change the ID for iCloud, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the new ID.

  • HT204053 Apple ID and iCloud Account

    Hi there,
I have changed my email address of my Apple ID. As a result I can only use the new email address to sign in App Store. I used this new email address to log in iTunes Store and App Store on my iPhone. But I realise that the email address in iCloud settings on my iPhone is still the old one!
It becomes very confusing to me now, because I can no longer use the old email address as my Apple ID. How come the iCloud on my iPhone is still using the old email address, and it seems it is still working with no problems?
Right now the situation is that I assigned the new email to my App Store settings on my iPhone (see the 1st picture below) but I do not how to do the same for iCloud settings (see the 2nd picture below). What should I do now? Will I lose all the Photo Stream pictures and all iCloud synchornised files on my iPhone?
    Thanks a lot!
    Regards,
    Fei

To change the iCloud ID, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the new ID.  This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your phone, but not from iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account, your data will reappear on your phone when you sign back in.
To avoid losing photo stream photos over 30 days old, save them to your camera roll before deleting the account (tap Edit, tap all the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.
