Avvoid the programs to take the Dock into consideration?
Hi,
sorry if the questions has been asked before, I couldn´t find it.
Ok, here´s the deal... I want the Dock to stay up all the time, with no use of the auto hiding function. But then all of the programs will take this into consideration and open up not quite so full screen as I would like. So, how can I make the dock stay up "on top of" all the programs which I open?
I hope this wasn´t to confusing...

Some applications are "Dock aware". This means they look to see where you Dock is and they attempt to avoid it and draw their windows around it.
Safari, for example, will not let you increase the size of the Safari window behind the Dock. However, if you temporarily turn hiding "on", you can increase the size of the window and then turn hiding "off" and the Safari window will be behind the Dock. Any new Safari windows, however, will not go behind the Dock automatically.
So, it may be difficult to use-up all of your monitor's space, depending on the applications you're using. You may need to turn hiding on and off to fill up the window. You can do this quickly with the Apple-alt-d keyboard combination.

When do underwriters take a payment into consideration for a CLI?
I'm going to CLI a couple of my cards in the next while, Amex and BoA. Maybe my Amazon store card. In each case I want to wait until my current payments go through, so that they have that extra payment data point availaable to them when they decide whether to trust me with the CLI or not. Any thoughts on when they will actually consider the payment as made, for this purpose: 1. When their Autopay initiates the payment process 2. When the money is deducted from my bank account 3. When their site switches from "processing" to "completed" for the payment 4. When I see the balance change on my credit report 5. When they next soft pull my report, after the balance changes Clearly by 5 everybody has the information but would the issuer themselves start considering the additional payment data point after step 3 or step 4?

How do you make programs open and close into their own tab in the dock, like they do in windows?
You know in Windows, how there is a tab for each program in the taskbar? And, if the program is minimized, when you click the tab, the programs restores. And when you click the tab again, the program minimizes.
Can this be done on Mac?

I should have posted screen shots in the first place!
Here is what I'm talking about. In the first screen shot (in Windows), you can see that there are programs running in the taskbar, but all the windows are minimized. The mouse is hovering over the "Computer" tab in the tasbar at the bottom of the screen. I am about to click the left mouse button once to restore the "Computer" window onto the desktop, but I haven't clicked it yet...
In this next screen shot, you can see that I have just clicked the left mouse button once and the "Computer" window has been restored (is now showing on the screen)...
Then, WITHOUT MOVING THE MOUSE TO ANY BUTTON IN THE "COMPUTER" WINDOW, ETC, IE. THE MOUSE IS STILL IN THE SAME PLACE IT WAS WHEN I CLICKED THE LEFT MOUSE BUTTON ONCE TO RESTORE THE WINDOW, I click the mouse button again and the window minimizes!...
All I'm asking is if anyone knows of a way to mimic this behaviour in OSX (in the dock) - either within the operating system itself, or with an addon app, etc.
Right now, as you know, in OSX when you click the program in the dock, the program restores, but then you have to move the mouse and click on the yellow button at the top-left of the program window to minimize it again. This is because once you click the program window icon in the dock to restore the program window, the icon is then removed from the dock - thus disallowing the possibility of clicking it again, without moving the mouse, to minimize the program window. I'm trying to see if there is a way so you don't have to move the mouse to toggle the window from minimized to restored to minimized again.
Or to be even more clear...
This next screen shot shows the desktop in OSX (mine happens to be Lion 10.7.5) and we can see that the Firefox program window is minimized into the dock into a Firefox program window icon. I have not yet clicked the mouse button to restore the Firefox program, but I am about to. The red circle at the bottom left of the screen shows where the mouse is...
Here, in this next screen shot, is the screen once I have clicked the mouse button on the Firefox dock window icon and the Firefox program window has been restored...
As you can see, the Firefox dock window icon that I just clicked has disappeared and, in that place instead, the red circle is now over a different dock window icon. The Firefox dock window icon is now missing from the dock and is therefore unclickable. If the Firefox dock window icon was still there, I could just click on it again to minimize the Firefox program window, and subsequently click it again to restore, and so on - like I am able to do in Windows.
I hope this clears things up. -
How do I put a drawer in the dock?
I want to group my applications in the dock into drawers. I keep frequently used programs in the dock to make it quick to open. But I would also like to group (for example all the programs for photos) some applications into one dock space. There are times I cannot remember the exact name of the program I want, just that it (for example) has to do with manipulating photos.
One possible method would be to create a folder, title it something appropriate, then put aliases of the applications you want to group into that folder. Then drag that folder to the right side of the Dock.

is it OK to store the iPod (I have a 40GB photo) in the dock fully charged? the screen has the charged battery symbol on it. does this wear out the battery or is it unhealthy for the iPod?
I mostly leave my iPod at home and play it through the dock into my home stereo and take my shuffle out on the road.

Has the dock connector changed?
I'm wanting to connect to the socket on the bottom of my video iPod (I believe that's 5th generation) but the accessory says it works with 3rd generation. The information dates back to mid 2004, but it does not say "3rd generation or later" just "3rd generation" (which may have been the current model back then!) Is my connector the same as that used on 3rd generation and since - i.e. will the plug fit?
No. I live in Norway. I have an MB, but it is not fitted with iPod connector or anything. I plugged the dock into the same connection as the CD changer on the back of the Sony using a splitter with flip to change from CD changer to iPod. The splitter i bought in an electronic shop for under £10

I purchased a Apple 5s yesterday replacing my two year old Apple 3G. With my old phone I used it to dock into a Bose Sound Dock to listen to Pandora and other music outlets. The Bose dock also is used to play my IPOD. What steps do I need to take to use my new phone on this dock to continue playing Pandora
This is the only thing I could find but it does not answer my question or even what I was told by the Global Support Rep.
Verizon has confirmed (here and here) they WILL unlock the SIM on the iPhone 4S, allowing for use of local SIM cards while traveling abroad (no word yet on whether this will allow for use on AT&T and T-Mobile.) This is different than the jailbreak unlocking method; SIM unlocking through Verizon is permanent and will not affect your warranty in any way.
1. Meet the following requirements:
* Must be a Verizon Wireless customer.
* The iPhone 4S being unlocked must be active on a Verizon Wireless line of service.
* The line of service must be active at least 60 days.
* The line of service must be in good standing for the past 60 days.
* Only one SIM Unlock per line every 10 months.
If you don't meet one or more of the above requirements, call anyway. You may still get lucky.
2. Insert a foreign SIM into the SIM card slot on the side of your phone (only required to confirm that the unlock is successful.)
3. Call 1-800-711-8300 (Verizon Global Support) and ask the representative for a SIM unlock. Occassionally a representative may not know exactly what you are referring to; make sure you are not transferred to a different department. You are in the right place. Explain that they should have a walkthrough on how to do this, and that it allows for the use of local, non-Verizon SIM cards while traveling abroad.
4. Get confirmation from the rep that the unlock has been applied to your account, then check your phone to make sure it recognizes your SIM and can connect (if successful it will roam on AT&T, assuming you are calling from the USA.) You will NOT see an unlock confirmation in iTunes as that is for a factory-applied unlock only.
5. Enjoy your new unlocked iPhone 4S! -
my ipod will only charge on the docking station. says it has a full charge but when I take it off the docking station it says battery is low so I've plugged it into the usb and plugged it into my wall outlet but it is still not charging. I'm not sure what generation it is, its an 80GB. Help?
The battery is possibly unable to take as much power as a normal battery. It may need a replacement battery.

However the main array that I am trying to build that is suppose to take each new calculation and place it in the next index(row) does not ap

Basically what I am attempting to do is is gather some pulses from adevice for a minute, place the results for a calculation, so that it displays then do the same again the next minute, but put these result in the next row and so on until the specifiied time has expired and the loop exits. I need to have all results displayed and keep building the array(display until, the end of the test)Eventually I will have to include a min max section that displays the min and max values calculated, but that should be easy with the min max function.Actually I thought this should have been easy but, I gues I can not see the forest through the trees. Can any one help to slear this up for me.

but I have a few tips for you that might things a bit easier:
- You use local variables excessively which really complicates things. Try
not to use them and it will make your life easier.
- If you flowchart the design (very similar to a dataflow diagram, keep in
mind!) you want to gather data, calculate a value from that data, store the
calculation in an array, and loop while the time is in a certain range. So
theres really not much need for a sequence as long as you get rid of the
local variables (sequences also complicate things)
- You loop again if timepassed+1 is still less than some constant. Rather
than messing with locals it seems so much easier to use a shiftregister (if
absolutely necessary) or in this case base it upon the number of iterations
of the loop. In this case it looks like "time passed" is the same thing as
the number of loop iterations, but I didn't check closely. There's an i
terminal in your whileloop to read for the number of iterations.
- After having simplified your design by eliminating unnecessary sequence
and local variables, you should be able to draw out the labview diagram.
Don't try to use the "insert into array" vis since theres no need. Each
iteration of your loop calculates a number which goes into the next position
of the array right? Pass your result outside the loop, and enable indexing
on the terminal so Labview automatically generates the array for you. If
your calculation is a function of previous data, then use a shift register
to keep previous values around.
I wish you luck. Post again if you have any questions. Without a more
detailed understanding of your task at hand it's kind of hard to post actual
code suggestions for you.

Is there a way to start a JAVA program from the dock?

I wrote some JAVA applications and I would like to put them in -
- and start them from - the dock.
These applications were built into .jar files.
I can start them from Finder which tells me that there is some .jar starter utility.
;JOOP!The Dock is for Applications, Documents, and Folders (which can take several forms). There are some other odd animals that can stay in the Dock, but they were never truly implemented (recent items is one). If you "wrap" the .jar file inside some package that behaves as an application, you can have it stay in the Dock just as any other Application.
A .jar file is not an application, it's a java archive. It is a collection of classes, metadata, etc. which the Java runtime interprets and executes. The Application which runs it shows up in the Dock as the coffee cup, but that is just the runtime engine, not the .jar.
The .jar is like any other document, such as a a word processing document. Just like any document, it can be double-clicked and the handling application will be called to open it. Double-clicking that word processing document causes the word processing application to open the document and interpret its contents. Double-clicking the .jar file causes the java runtime engine to open the .jar file and interpret its contents. Instead of presenting it as paragraphs of text, it displays it as the application it represents. -
Custom icons not showing up when I drag a folder into the dock
I have a dock in 10.6 (on the left side, going vertical, if that matters). I've dragged a few folders into it, each containing Aliases to various programs. I've set custom icons on these folders, so I can tell at a glance what's in each folder (since it won't fan out for a vertical dock). But even after I rebooted, the dock isn't showing my custom icons but rather kind of an overlay of the various icons in each folder. What am I doing wrong?

I can't find my downloads unless I go into finder and manually search for them by name. Usually when I have a document link, I click it and it shows up in the downloads folder on the dock. Now when I press the link, the gray safari icon that comes from the link goes off into the side of my computer (instead of into the downloads folder) and nothing happens.
I want my downloads to show up in my downloads folder. Not documents in Finder.

I have my iPhone 4s plugged into a dock and the dock connected to an amplifier with 2 speakers and a bass, the problem is that the amplifier doesn't have a volume changer and when i plug in the iPhone into the dock the iPhone´s volume bar disappears and im not allowed to change the volume and its very loud. how can i change the volume? is there an app? any ideas??(my dock doesnt have infrared remote controller )

Apple does not repair devices beyond replacing the screen on some models or a battery replacement. They replace the ENTIRE device.
For the Out of Warranty replacement cost, you could have gotten a fully functional replacement device. Instead you chose to spend less to get only the screen replaced and continue to live with additional issues.
Apple will not touch the device now. They will know that it was opened elsewhere and that the replacement screen is not original.
