Awakens from sleep goes directly back to sleep

Hi,
When I awaken my g5 from sleep it frequently starts up, then immediately after the desktop appears on my monitor (ie., within 4 seconds), the computer puts itself back to sleep. When I press any key, it awakens again, and it does not repeat the bad behavior (until its been put back to sleep by me).
I've run disk utility , Techtool Pro, and onyx, but the problem persists. Any suggestions?

At this point I think you should get Applejack...
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
Correct any Disk problems.
Repair Permissions.
Clear out Cache Files.
Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files!
Disconnect the USB cable from any UPS so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.
Get Temperature Monitor to see if it's heat related...
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12381/temperature-monitor
And/or iStat Pro...

If you have any temps in the 70°C/160°F range, that's likely it.

Macmini 2011 on lion, goes to a blue screen on monitor when awakening from sleep mode, last 3 or 4 seconds, before desktop appears, can anyone help? Thanks

Depending on the system configuration, this may not
be unusual.  The Mini that I use for my home theater,
which is connected to a receiver then to a TV, all via
HDMI usually takes a couple seconds to come up just
the way yours does.  Same happens when I switch sources
on the receiver.  Actually, it starts with the blue screen and
will sometimes flash before the desktop comes up.
It seems that when HDMI goes dormant, there is handshaking
that needs to be re-established, at least thats my SWAG on it.
On the other hand, the Mac Mini Server that I use as a work
station and is connected to a Thunderbolt Display, wakes to desktop
in a second, maybe two.  On this combo, it just comes up to
    the desk top.
It also probably depends on what processes were active when
the Mini was put to sleep.  So it may take some time for it to get around
    to reloading the desktop.

  • In Mountain Lion how to keep Dashboard from opening each time awakening from sleep?

Every time awakening from sleep and/or screen saver, the dashboard screen comes up as the opening display, how can I stop this?

    Nope.
If you launch Mail, you get mail.
You can only stop if from loading if your DON'T launch Mail.
You can also decide how much to have it load, and how far back.
The other option is to turn off Wifi before you launch Mail.

  • Spinning beach ball when awakening from sleep

I get the spinning wheel when awakening from sleep. Also my fans seem to be running a lot more than they used to.  I've tried resetting SMC and PRAM.  I recently installed a Crucial 256GB M4 SSD and enabled TRIM--not sure if that had anything to do with it.  Running OS X 10.7.4 and have the latest updates. This is on an early 2011 MBP with 16GB RAM.
Anything I should do or check?
    Thx

Seems to be a problem with the hard drive. Ok prior to 10.5.2. Affected drive: Fujitsu MHV2100AT PL 100gb

  • New iBook, kernel panics when awakened from sleep

I've been going nuts for several weeks now due to issues with my new iBook G4. When it is not plugged in, it may be fine when it wakes from sleep, or else it may wake to a black screen of death or else wake up and then freeze (requiring a restart) a few seconds after waking up.
I've reset the PMU several times, removed the third-party RAM (which I thought resolved the issue, until two crashes today when waking up unplugged), reset the PRAM, ran Disk Utility, did an archive and install of 10.4.2, etc. For a day, it would also go through infinite wake/sleep cycles when plugged in with the lid closed, but it resolved on its own within 24 hours. I was all set to send it in to Apple when the issue resolved itself on its own.
But I'm stumped as to the nature of the kernel panics/freezes, etc. They only happen when the iBook is unplugged from AC, USB, etc. and it is not 100% predictable. It may happen the second time I'm waking it up after not being connected to anything. Or it may be fine.
Here's the panic log from today, the details of which are identical to the panic that happened an hour earlier:

Suggestions? Is this really a hardware issue relating to the AirPort card, or is it something related to kernel extensions? It does not appear to be a user folder-related issue (I tested that as well). Thanks!

I've been having similar problems with my iBook G4/1GHz computer. I haven't yet figured it out when or why it crashes after sleep, but this is sure: everytime there is USB mouse connected, it does that crashing. I bought mighty mouse to make sure, it wasn't the mouse which caused the problems. But no, it wasn't the mouse.
I've tried to google some solutions, but haven't found any. This is very annoying problem. Anyway I can get that crashlog after reboot?
    Symptons:
When lid is opened, fan's are started, but no picture or network connection or anything is alive. Display is black. Requires reboot to get it up and running again.
I have run hardware tests on processor, usb, video ram and ram and all have passed.

  • Leopard spontaneously awakens from sleep

I have an Intel Mac Pro that's about 3 years old. It worked fine with Tiger. When I upgraded to Leopard, the machine suddenly started awakening spontaneously from sleep, which I finally solved by removing all USB devices, including keyboard and mouse, and tapping the power button to put it to sleep. I don't use Bluetooth devices; they're not reliable and don't work well for me.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard resolved this problem. Now the Mac Pro sleeps and awakens properly.
I just upgraded my wife's Power PC G5 machine to Leopard, and all of a sudden her computer now awakens if there is any movement in the room containing the computer. It never did that before on Tiger. (She also has no Bluetooth devices.) Not surprisingly, she blames me for "breaking" her Mac.
In both scenarios, even the slightest movement in the room was enough to awaken the Macs. My question is, since this appeared only in Leopard and went away in Snow Leopard, is there a Terminal setting that will turn it off?

  • Rustling/Static-like sound when awakening from sleep?

It seems to be coming from the speaker, the left side I think, and it definitely isn't the sound of the drive spinning up.
Anyone know what this issue is, how to fix it, or if it is a sign of a more serious problem?

I've got the same issue, though I don't really worry about it - it's definitely coming from the speakers - when I awaken it from sleep I can hit the volume buttons and it'll get louder/softer. Unfortunately, I'm not sure why it does that - you're not alone, though it doesn't seem like a serious problem.

  • External UCube speakers don't work after awakening from sleep mode since 10.7.5 upgrade

Ever since I upgraded to 10.7.5 when I wake my computer from sleep mode...my external UCube speakers don't work unless I unplug them and plug them back in. I've already tried resetting the SMC. It recognizes and shows the speakers in the sound preferences...but no sound unless I reconnect the usb cable. Worked fine in 10.7.4
Any ideas? Its ridiculous all the audio problems being reported.

I have a mac mini (A1283) with OS 10.7.4. Upon upgrading to 10.7.5 it did not start up again. Instead, the light was on and the hard drive did not start up. The light on the connected USB mouse was not lit.
    My solution:
    Cold start with Command-v pressed.
This should start Verbose mode (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492 ).
What happened on my mac mini was that the grey startup screen with the Apple logo appeared for a long while before the login screen came.
Maybe Cmd-v set open firmware params and fixed some corruption.
Anyway: my mac mini works again.

  • IMac wireless mouse/keyboard unavailable after awakening from sleep - OS X 10.10.3

I am using an iMac21 inch late 2012. Has been working perfectly until I upgraded to OS X 10.10.3. Now when the iMac wakes from sleep neither the mouse or keyboard are connected. The only recourse is to force a hard restart with the power button.
i have tried the following to no avail:
    SMC reset
    PRAM/NVRAM reset
reboot (reconnects until computer sleeps & reawakens)
    bluetooth off/on
    repaired Bluetooth devices
    Removed & reconfigured devices
I have set sleep (in Energy Preferences) to wait indefinitely & that has 'resolved' my issue. Albeit with an increase in energy use. Of course this isn't a fix.
I Would be grateful if anybody had some tips on how to resolve this situation.
    thanks

  • Imac awakens from sleep for no reason?!

So sometimes in the middle of the night my imac comes on from sleep.  Usually it's very rare but it happened like 3-4 times last night.  I know the next door nieghbor has an airport extreme, I pick it up on my wifi.  Do you think someone's trying to hack in or is it coincidence? No I don't think I have a ghost either ; )

This may be something like a driver, application or external device which is not fully Leopard compatible, or even a component of MacOS if you upgraded to Leopard rather than did a clean install. To start the process of troubleshooting, first download and install the full 10.5.1 update from http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1051update.html , even if you have already updated to 10.5.1 using software update. The full updater has been reported to resolve a number of minor issues.
Next, assuming that doesn't resolve it, start up your mini, put it to sleep and then disconnect everything. If it continues to wake unpredictably, the issue is with the mini itself, and you may be best to backup all your data and do an erase and install to resolve any residual issues caused in the upgrade. If, on the other hand, the system remains sleeping, it points to an external device being the culprit, in which case plug each one in, one at a time until you can create the unpredictable waking again. Whichever component was last plugged in, is the primary suspect!

  • Keystrokes to awaken from sleep

How do I awaken an NX9420 laptop from the sleep mode.  The power cord and converter died (dog related) and the battery ran out - therefore it went into sleep mode. I have now installed a new one (thanks to your service department).  I had this happen about 10 years ago, but have since lost the keystroke combination to awaken this laptop.  This machine may be a bit slow by todays standards, but has given me great service over the years.  Thank you for your assistance.

No response from you. I let the computer fully charge on direct energy, turned it on, and still sleeping. I turned it off and it did just that.  I turned it on (power 3 times) in a 1/2 hour and it opened normally. I run XP Pro.  You were no help.

  • Firewire 800 drive dismounts itself after awakening from sleep mode

I have a 24" intel iMac ( running V10.4.10) with a FW800 Western Digital 500 GB attached - about half the time when it wakes up from a sleep the drive is removed from the desktop and I get the "improper removal" dialogue box. PS: There 1st bright idea was to not plug it into a power strip but use the wall outlet - I did but was of no help.
