Awarding points

To how many answers can "this helped me" be awarded in a thread?

margalina
you can't change your mind either - so be sure you want to and be sure of Who before clicking - you can click Yourself (no points awarded) if you find answer / help on your own and post it in your own thread. I have mistakenly done both by not paying attention

  • Short Dunp While Creating a BP - Awarded points

    Hello Guru's,
We have Implemented Accounts & Contact Magt in SAP CRM 4.0. I got a Ticket saying - An Account (BP) has created just and While Creating Contact person to the above Account they found a Short Dump.
    500 SAP Internal Server Error
Err Msg: Error PXA_NO_FREE_SPACE occured. P1=3381248 P9=143360 (Type of termination: RABAX_STATE).
I tryed with Tcode ST22 in ABAP Runtime Error but i don't see any Shortdump. However the above error seems like No Free Space available. what could be the reason of the above Issue.
Could you Pls let me know the Solution & Ways to resolve the above Issue.
Awarded points for the best solution.
    Srujan

    Hello Srujan,
The PXA_NO_FREE_SPACE dump means that the program buffer, that is the buffer used to execute programs, was too small at the time of the execution; it could not store the application data and therefore dumps the application. This could be the result of a high system load (many people running many transactions/programs) or that the system parameter abap/buffersize is set too small.
Note that this problem is mostly temporarly, if it occurs often you should increase the physical amount of memory or increase the program buffer size.
Check OSS note 147568 for possible solutions and how to determine the correct amount for the system parameter abap/buffersize.
    Hope this helps!
    Reward points if useful!
    Kind regards,
    Joost

  • Making it easier to award points for individual answers on the same slide.

    Hi
One of my biggest requests would be for it to be made a lot easier to award points for individual answers.
For example: I would like to use the 'fill in the blanks' quiz to create something that is reffered to in educational circles as 'cloze procedure'. Basically I would like to create an entire slide of text with many blank areas that need to be filled in. This is possible at the moment but it is only possible to award points based on every single answer being correct. I would like to award individual points for each correct answer on the slide.
At the moment this can be done with a lot of complex scripting but I would like to be able to do it at the push of a button.
    Cheers

You can also find it in the main screen of the Captivate forums. That is the way to log a feature request. In the new forum, you can also post Ideas, but the feature requests do reach the team certainly:

  • How to award points for a topic I did not begin....

i have received an excellent reply which solved a problem. I joined the discussion part way through. I would like to award points to the contributor who solved my problem but can not see how i do this. Can you only award points if you start the thread?

Ironic that in a thread concerning the awarding of
points for helpful replies, you marked the topic as
answered without awarding any points to Adrian.
Exactly my thoughts, except rather than the points themselves, I'm more concerned with the fact that if there is a reply that solves the problem or answers the question, it should be marked as such.

  • Awarding points "helpful answers" etc

    Hi
Can someone tell me where to find info about awarding points on these Adobe forums.  And helpful answers, etc, how it works?   I am familiar, for example, with Experts Exchange where there is similar points, etc.  In Experts Exchange, for example, points can be split, etc.
I have received much helpful, invaluable, assistance here and I want to give points appropriately.
    Thanks
    Rowby

And, if one has posted a question, and say Harm answers it, and then later on adds useful info in another reply, the poster can then award him yet again.
There have been some humorous awards around these parts, since Adobe went to Jive with the salami and the points. I've seen times where a poster would nail an issue, and then another would reply that the OP is a dunce and needs to read the manual, before posting. The second reply would end up getting the big points, and the poster, who actually answered the question gets hosed.
On some posts, there might be 4 - 5 correct answers, and then the OP comes back, as says something like "ha, I figured it out all by myself, so none of you gets any points." Most often, that self-discovered solution had been suggested by most of the others, but had obviously been completely overlooked - or maybe those OP's are just having "sport" with us?
One very long recent thread had many correct replies, to the OP and to additional questions. All should have qualified for something kind of "atta' boy," but then someone replied - "never saw that before," and got the Correct Answer.
We had one post recently, where keyboard shortcuts were asked for. A poster pointed to the location of all default keyboard shortcuts in Help and pointed out that these could also be customized. No points. Then, several others chimed in with shortcuts, like L for Love, etc., and the points all went to them.
In general, most of us do not follow pts., or really care about them (except for banter in the Lounge), and getting the OPs' issues solved is "payment" enough. That is what matters to us. We end up making light of the pts., and discussion is just a release for most of us - a little bit of humor, when we've been concentrating heavily on someone's problems.

  • Outputting BW Reports as .txt files - Will award points

    Hello all,
I am on 3.5, and need to schedule some reports to be run.  Here's the kicker - I need to be able to take the output of the reports and put them out on a server as a .txt file.
Will happily award points for a good answer...
       Thanks.
    Dave Knudson

No - this isn't what I mean.  I need to use a trans code (like rsrt) to output the file as .txt.  I do not want to use the browser.
Here's the deal - right now I IB 300 or so reports a day.  I do not have a pre-calc server, so my only option is HTML.  My sales force hates HTML, and there are security/technical issues with giving them access to the BEx.  What I want to do is pre-run all of these reports, and dump them on a server somewhere.  Then a SQL trool can pick them up and parse them, and put them into individual file folders.
What I want is ABAP code or a function module which will run the reports, and output the results as .txt.
    Thanks.

  • Update: Found Waveburner, 10 minutes later, created 4 song CD as wanted (with timed pauses inserted, normalized, as needed, etc).  A cool tool. Who do I thank?  Thank all of you.  Sorry if I failed to award "points" properly.  You know who you are!

Update: Found Waveburner (had to download Logic... again), 10 minutes later, created 4 song CD as wanted (with timed pauses inserted, normalized, as needed, etc).
    A cool tool.
    Who do I thank?
    Thanks to all of you.
Sorry if I failed to award "points" properly.
    You know who you are!
I'll be better next time.  I won't use space for messages like this (only questions).

I have a few co-writes I get mailbox money for (enough $ to remind me that I am a "song" writer).
I am a visual artist for the most part.
What I am working on musically, primarily, are longer-playing instrumental pieces. Today I'm working on mix of one for my new website (it will accompany a video that was shot and edited by an award-winner...).  So music will play when my art video is playing.
Some of my paintings (cropped)  can be seen on my user profile. The art will give you an idea as to the music, perhaps?
I am looking forward to using Logic for adding my music to films of my visual art I shoot, but that is another day.  (Hopefully any software I need will be easily found, then!)
Can I hear your music online?

  • Reminder on forum pages about awarding points?

This isn't for me, since at this rate I will be a Level 4 in something over 600 years, but I was wondering if there could be some kind of discreet and short (clutter avoiding) but highly visible, reminder or announcement on the forum pages, themselves, about awarding points and the points system.
I realize that for most helpers here the satisfaction of helping someone, and maybe even getting a thank you, is enough, but a thank you can be made more meaningful with very little effort.
Many new members are oblivious, don't bother to read the Help and TOU, at least not very carefully, myself included when I first registered here. I see so many not bothering to award points I think, not out of indifference, but simply because they aren't paying attention. Often a question will be marked answered, but no points awarded - not simply to close off the thread, as in some cases - but when there has, in fact, been a genuine solution.
Could there be some form of gentle reminder, avoiding pushiness, at the top of each of the pages? I know there is already the "Solved and Helpful still available" in the actual thread, (and "Answered question, Unanswered question with answer points still available Unanswered question at the bottom of the page"), but I think for many who haven't understood the points system to begin with, these may not even register- or be very noticeable.
If this has already been discussed and dismissed please excuse.

We are looking at changes in the future to make it clearer to everyone (new and older users alike) on how the system works.
Thanks Eric; could this include, possibly, some sort of simple notice at the top of the forum pages (as described above, discreet, non-pushy, non-manipulative and, short)? I don't see how this would violate "other forms of encouragement are frowned upon." It would seem to me Apple has everything to gain by creating a more "encouraging" climate for helpers to do their work here. As it is, it must be somewhat frustrating at times.

Come in here more often if you feel you have the knowledge of how to offer the best answers.
I'm not sure what this is supposed to mean. With respect, A Brody, am I detecting some needless sarcasm, or am I misunderstanding? I certainly don't presume to offer the "best answers." Is making a simple suggestion presumptuous of me?
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink.
Agreed. But I wonder if the horse even knows the water is nearby.
People come in here with varying levels of free time. You can't expect everyone to be able to spare the time to mark a thread one way or another.
How much extra time does it take to mark a thread one way or the other? Wouldn't many more people do this only if they were made more aware?
Everyone would and should carefully read the lengthy Help and TOU. But human nature being what it is, most people, especially people interested in finding an answer to a more or less urgent question. are not going to take the time for that. They might, however, pay attention to a short notice.

    Hi,
this error is because you are activating your ODS in paralel and it could be an issue...
Are you on BI7.0? Check OSS 976730.
If not, did you change something to your scenario?
Try to activate you request serially.
    Let me know

  • A thought about awarding points

    Hi!
If I'm understanding the new system correctly, if I ask a question, and someone gives me some useful assistance, I can essentially award them points...
Under the old system, I was able to browse all the discussions, and from time to time, I would find a real gem of information. It was nice to be able to award the poster some points for his effort, even if I was not responsible for generating the question.
    Just a for-what-it's-worth.
    Thanks,
    Bob

This is very true: Most "newish users […] don't know and may not wish to know about the voting system". Personally as a Level Zero I spent two or three weeks reading and learning, without even knowing about all those plus, minus, subscribe etc buttons. Only after a long while I saw all this and started to reward my first helpers on their new posts to somebody else... (thanks again Duane, Kappy, Tom Gewecke, Gulliver, Radar etc..!)
Still, Lennart is right in that the voting system was perverted by "friendly voting" and "opinion voting", especially the use of negative votes. How many times I saw debates with up to 30 votes (negatives then "corrected" etc) or more, given to two or three participants for or against some questionable comments, while the one useful, simple answer was given only one or even no vote at all!
That is only if nobody were cheating, but then,
moderators also have been trying to limit the votes since Leonardo already, and you can be very sure there are at least ten different members who have two or more accounts just for the purpose of giving votes to themselves.
    Also,
as a European (often posting at a time when Moderators are sleeping/not monitoring, GMT-6 or 7), I was earning an actual Point only every 20th Vote or so. It was not the same "20% chances" to be awarded, depending from where in the world you were posting useful answers.
    Yes,
I'm with Bob, Sagesse, Brian etc, I would like to be able to "buy" a good tip, Terminal command, link, advice etc that I'd find in another thread, but I do not miss the idea of voting.
I agree also that regular users know better than Level Zeros, what is really useful and what is just a fast, incomplete or just "semantically interessant" reply.
That's why they should be given a word too.
Why not trying the "Positive Votes Only" solution?
The simple fact that there would be no negative votes would make it a Point System, not anymore a Vote System.
It could be very limited, like for example being able to give only 5 points per day, if to somebody else's thread.
And if it doesn't work, just change it again?
Moderators really are doing a tremendous work here, at addressing this kind of question that should not become too important but that takes too much work and surveillance...

  • Awarding points for answers

Can I award "this helped me" and at a later time "this solved my question" to the same answer?

You can go back to the thread, and add a comment stating that comment did answer your question.  Although the poster won't get the extra points, a thank you would be very much appreciated, and will also let future readers know what solved your problem.

  • Pl......Awarding points ---- :(

    Hi all,
I have been noticing, there’re lot of folks on SDN, which Don’t Award the points even after getting required information. It’s really making me knut. I mean if somebody’s answering some question and it’s related. One should at least award some points.
Come on guys encourage the guys who is giving you answer from there precious time and helping you out.
    It’s also about points.
    Thanks
    Saquib Khan

    Guys,
I can understand the frustration that when some one doesn't care to tell you whether or not your answer has helped them and of course the biggest thing is leaving the thread open.
However, I also need to point that quite a few people who answer the questions are taking advantage of people who are generous in giving points. I have see quite a few posts where the same answers is being repeated even after hours, why do we have do that. The ultimate aim is to help the person who have posted the question, right? So, what is the point in repeating the same answers after hours. I can understand within span of five minutes if the same answer is posted.
The other thing is to copy and paste answers from other peoples posts and not even giving credit to them. There is no harm in just referring the user to that thread.
There should also be some amount of discipline in people who are answering as well.
    Regards,
    Ravi

  • Award Points to Oneself

I've seen two posts that seem to have the original poster marking one of their own comments/replies as the correct answer, is this a bug in the system? Or are they not actually being rewarded points?

    Peggy,
You are correct, the functionality is there so that if an OP does find an answer, they can post and have the answer highlighted.
    Martin,
You are correct as well, no points are awarded if the OP marks as correct or answered.
    Thanks!

  • Award Points

    Hi friends,
To day morning I get answer my question .So let me explain how I can give the Points.

    Hi,
Open your question and for each and every given by the consultants they have points assigned towards the left hand side.
    Solved (10)
    Very helpful (6)
You can give the points as per the appropriate answer.
    You can give 1 10 points, 2 6points, i think 4 2 points.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kiran
