AWE64 Gold SPDIF Output Iss

Hello All,
I've encountered an issue with the SPDIF output from my AWE64 Gold under Windows XP in that not all sounds created through the digital wave device are being received by my digital processor.
Initial troubleshooting has shown that the AWE's DSP doesn't upconvert low bitrate samples. My digital processor can handle PCM/6bit/44KHz and PCM/6bit/48KHz, but anything less seems to fail.
Has anyone else seen this issue? Is there a way to force Windows XP to always output in PCM/6bit/44KHz?

Now I am running Windows XP and it seems that the WaveSynth software is incompatable with this OS (not that I've ever used it before or really know what it is). Is there another way to force the card to output all sounds at 6-bit stereo 44.KHz?

SPDIF on AWE64 Gold not work

Have an old, second-hand, networked PC still running 98SE and it has an AWE64 Gold sound card. Elderly, I know, but never have been able to get the digital output to work. Analogue is fine. Fed it into numerous external devices, external D/A converter, minidisc, stand-alone CD recorder and the silence is deafening! I think the card has the correct driver - device manager shows it as Creative AWE64 Gold 6-bit Audio (SB6 compatible) version 4.37.00.998, but is there something additional I need to enable the digital output? I`m thinking in terms of some sort of "control panel" or tools that another of my PC`s has to enable its Trust sound card`s digital output to work. And before anyone asks.....yes, the sub-panel IS plugged in!!

I also came across this problem some time ago. What helped me (not sure how) was removing the spdif cable from the pc and switching off. I then restarted with the cable plugged in and holy moly there was sound! Restarted though and it was off again. I ran the basic checks: ensured mute was off on spdif channel ; was selected as an input etc... Had to re-install all drivers manually and it worked again. If that doesn't work - What I can suggest is using another output from your mackie to determine where the problem lies. Try a line-out to rule out master output problems with the mixer. Ensure phantom power is on for the mic. Try another input signal into the sound card, one you know is working - might be a prob with spdif channel. Try another cable (again). Bypass converter completely . Might be a problem with your mixer's headphone cue? Route the signal to the master and check master output (If you are ONLY using headphones) then check vu reading depending on what mackie you are running?) Try a good D/I Box too... This may or may not be of any help at all but its a few ideas that sprung to mind. I know the frustration of things working today, and not tomorrow!

AWE64 GOLD SP/

Hi,
I need information how to enable SP/DIF output of the AWE64 GOLD. I am developing the driver in an older version of? Unix, this is why I need information if and how enable this digital output in the low level software. I would like to play standard audio wav files , if it is possible.
Some sources say that this output is connected with EMU8000 chip, others that is is only so in AWE32 and in AWE64 it is also connected to standard digital subsystem of this GOLD card. I have Internet with Google and there is no precise information, only some hints that it is possible to play not only via EMU8000.
I would be thankful for these precise information , which would enable to set via inb/outb? or similar stuff.
My driver plays fine 4400/6bit/stereo wav files (via splay) .After connection the SP/DIF 2-pin output if GOLD using internal 2-pin-RCA cable(but not original from Creative) via external RCA-RCA cable to the external brand new Beresford DAC? I do hear nothing on the headphones connected to DAC.
Both external RCA-RCA cable and DAC work perfectly for example with DVD, it means they are both tested OK.
I cannot imagine then anno domini 2008 this information is still trade secret.

According to GOLD Manual "output from EMU8000 chip is mixed with digital voice playback if playback is in 6 bit stereo 4400. If You want to listen to WaveSynth/WG through SPDIF output jack You must enable 'Enable Wave Synth playing CD quality'"? in ... Of course some kind of supplied software is meant.
But because I am not using Windows but Unix OS , it is not so easy. I can now precise the question . I have mixer software, namely I have poorted nmixer. Does it mean that it is enough for example to enable FM_SYNTH in the mixer menu(VOLUME,LINE,SPKR,CD,IGAIN,OGAIN,MIC,FM_SYNTH? just to mention what mixer does)? in order that output will be played through SPDIF? jack of the card?
I will check it out, but competent answer to this question would help. ?

Problem Getting 3D Sound With AWE64 Gold Card in DOS

Hi,
I cannot get 3D Sound to work with my AWE64 Gold Card in MS-DOS.
In the C:>SB16 directory, I type CT3DSE to enable 3D Enhancement Technology but I receive the message, your card does not support 3D Sound Technology. I was able to activate it in the past and now I can't.
I installed the DOS drivers from the AWE64 Gold CD - so incorrect drivers are not the issue here.
Could it be that there's not enough free Conventional Memory to activate this feature? I have 510KB free.
Can anyone help?

Mystery solved.
There are at least two models of the AWE 64 Gold: The CT4540 and the CT4390. The 4540 does NOT support 3D Creative Enhancement Technology. The 4930 does. This may seem odd as one would expect the higher model to be more advanced.

SPDIF output is disabled when connecting a HDMI device

Hello, hope someone can help.
I've got a Toshiba SAT U500 with Realtek audio driver. I want to send the video to the TV (via HDMI) and still send audio via SPDIF to the digital receiver. By some reason it is automatically enabling HDMI audio when I connect the TV, and on the SPDIF output (icon on Windows 7 -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound) a telephone sign appears.
What does that telephone sign mean? How to make the system not to disable SPDIF output when connecting a HDMI device?

Optical SPDIF output stopped working- why?

I recently installed a larger HD and more RAM in my 1.63MHz Mini. After getting buttoned back up I noticed the optical SPDIF output stopped working (as in NO laser visible). Is there any possibility that this could be related to the OS (10.5.8)? Seems unlikely since it was fine before installation.
I really need this as it is my only option for interfacing with my playback system.

Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.
Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

I have an Audigy model #sb0090
I am running Vista Home Premium
I am connecting this computer to my Dolby 5. receiver.
Creative Vista drivers are installed and reporting no errors.
On the back of the Audigy card there is a digital output jack labeled: "digital out or 3"
I purchased the Digital IO Module from:

When I plug it in, I don't get audio from either the coax or the optical outputs. I have enabled spdif output in the OS. I also have a daughter board model# ct4660 (from an older sound blaster li've) that I can connect to the audigy via a ribbon cable. The ct4660 also has a coax output. When I use this, the Dolby Digital output is sent to the receiver and everything works. The problem is, I don't have room in the case for the ct4660 which takes up an extra pci slot. How do I tell the card to send digital out to the "digital out or 3" output on the Audigy?

I went out and purchased a new Audigy SE. Using the IO module, I now am able to get Dolby Digital sound from digital sources such as DVDs and ATSC television. I do not get any other sound such as Windows sounds and music. In the Audigy speaker properties on Vista, the "Digital Output Only" checkbox is not checked. How do I get all sound to output via the spdif output?

Some time ago I asked question about my Audigy 2:
[size="">Hi, I am using Audigy 2 soundcard connected to Altec Lansing ADA885 speakers. These speakers have built-in Dolby Digital Decoder, and of course SPDIF input for this. Additionally, they have inputs for analog front and rear speakers signal. They can be switched to different operation modes : Dolby Digital decoding, Dolby ProLogic decoding, stereo, and quad modes. I have connected them to my Audigy 2 using analog connections, and also digital output. The problem is, that they process both kind of inputs (analog and digital) all the time in most modes simultaneously. For example, when I set them to "quad" mode (for gaming) they process analog signal that Audigy deli'vers them, but also they attempt to decode the signal from digital input. This produces some kind of phase distortions (basses dissappear and the sound becomes slightly muffled). Possible solutions could be : - disable digital decoding in speakers when using analog output from Audigy - this can't be done, these speakers' decoder is not configurable, - disconnect digital cable when using analog output from Audigy - obvious solution, however not very comfortable - disable "ON-DEMAND" spdif output on Audigy card and enable it when necessary. This would be most satisfying option for me. But.... is it possible at all ? Just something similar to the "Digital output only" setting in soundcard panel, but in my case i'd like to have an option of "Analog outputs only". Yesterday I moved to Vista Ultimate and newest set of Creative Drivers.
To my surprise, there is an option of SPDIF output volume and mute in system mixer. However, it also doesn't work.
Can anyone confirm, if I can mute digital output whenever I want ?

After 3 connectors, I have my SPDIF of my Audigy 2 ZS connected to my Recei'ver and passing sound. However, it is NOT passing the 5. AC3/DTS stream. Playing a movie through Media Center 2005, if Dolby Digital 5. is selected, I hear the movie, but the Recei'ver does not indicate it is in Dolby Digital (like when I play it through my standalone DVD Player). When selecting DTS in the Audio Options of the DVD Menu, I hear no sound at all.
I have a minijack to RCA Stereo connector with a Digial Coax cable going from the White connector to my Recei'ver Digital Coax Input.
I have set the Device Decoding Options for SPDIF Passthrough.
What am I missing? This is going on a week now to get something going that worked right out of the box with a $40 DVD Player. And the $40 DVD Player sounds better than this $00 sound card....because it passes the AC3 stream flawlessly.

Audigy 2 ZS spdif output prob

I've recently installed an Audigy 2 ZS into my new PC. I can get sound out through headphones - from CD and DVD. I've connected the spdif out jack to my surround sound decoder - this all worked fine on my old PC with a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card. Now on the new PC with the Audigy, I can't get any sound out of the spdif connection. I've set PowerDVD to spdif output and the card setting to spdif passthru as per the instruction in this forum but still nothing.
What can I expect to get out of the spdif connection ? From what I've read, it's clear that I should be able to get Dolby Digital and that I can't get sound from games. What about CDs and mp3s etc . ?

From what I've read on this forum, that ought to do the trick. I've got a stereo minijack to left-right RCA and have tried both sides. No signal that my pre-amp can recognise.

Cannot get 5.1 sound using Audigy 2, SPDIF output, coaxial cable, Digital/DTS recei

I'm having trouble getting my receiver to play 5. sourround signals from my Audigy 2. The receiver has all the required decoding options (DTS, Dolby Digital, etc.), I have a coaxial digital connection from the Audigy to the receiver, I've selected "Digital Output only" and set the Audigy to bypass the ac3 decoder (SPDIF output). However, the receiver only ever detects the front left and right channels. I've tried lots of tweaking (speakers settings, decoder settings), but still cannot get a multi-speaker sound.
If I'm using the Audigy's built-in ProLogic system to simulate 5. output from standard stereo sources (wav, mp3, etc.), should this not result in a 5. signal being transmitted to the receiver over the coaxial digital cable? Still, no luck when I try this.
I've read that it's not possible for the Audigy to transmit 5. signals over the digital output -- it can only decode them and pipe them to the analog 6-speaker outputs. Is this true?

KT6V SPDIF OutPut won't work

I have a KT6V motherboard and I can not get the SPDIF output to work. I have change the speaker config countless times, I have found and adjusted the volume control for this output but still nothing. This problem has been with me since new and the board has even been back to MSI for repair for another problem but still no SPDIF output. I have run out of ideas. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you all.

Thanks heaps. Believe it or not it was the only thing I did not try. The surround sound system is shaking the walls now.

Spdif output problems

I have a 651 unit with on board ac97 audio which is connected to an external amp thro an spdif. When I play dvds on WinDVD7 in XP I get full DTS/DD sound. If I play dvds through MCE 2005 I get Dolby Virtual. I've installed the latest graphics and Realtek drivers and all the audio settings are set for spdif output. The spdif is outputing something because I do get sound. I've tried everything from previous threads but nothing seems to work. Please help.

Hi - I,ve set windvd7 to spdif output and in control panel - audio devices under the spdif tab I've set to digital output only. In Media Centre in the settings scetion under dvd and audio I've selected spdif but if I save and exit when I look in that section again it has reverted to 2 channel sterio. I know the system works because when I play dvds using windvd7 from the xp desktop I get the full dts/dd sound. I've loaded the latest fx5200 drivers graphics drivers, ac97 drivers etc. I dont think its a driver problem cos it works in xp. It must be a media centre problem - but I cant think what else I can do.
I'll try the analogue outputs - I'll lash something together tonight when I can get some cables.

SPDIF output E-MU 0404

Does not work SPDIF audio output on audio card E-MU 0404. Only the microphone icon. Can I do SPDIF output on this audio card?

Does your SPDIF input have a send to an ASIO IN #/# or WAV L/R in its stack? It will have to have this for the sound to get to your applications. If you send to ASIO you will need to use ASIO drivers in your apps, if you send to WAV you will use a WDM driver.

But to use the receiver's DAC's you'd have to lose the accuracy advantage of real digital (i.e. the "better" sound). When you convert non-AC3/DTS sound to AC3/DTS, the conversion involves "perceptual coding," which means they throw away stuff they don't think you can really hear so that the signal can be fit in the same space as a stereo digital signal.
It's also a relati'vely compute-intensi've conversion, and not a simple process.
Now, are you sure really want to do that?

Neo2 - SPDIF output on pins 3/5 possible?

I used to be able to pull the SPDIF output on my SB Live! using the top two pins and wire it right into my Yamaha :D
As nobody sells the S Bracket around Toronto that I could find, and the closest place right now is from PC Club, I thought I might try and do the same by wiring it to pin 3 (SPDIF out) and pin 5 (ground) according to the pinout in the manual. As soon as I attach a set of wires to these two pins (but not connected to the amp), the CPU utilization goes way up and doesn't return to normal until I pull the wires out - and they aren't even connected at the other end!?!? I even tried removing the jumpers from JS1 before doing all of this.
So until then I'm using my old SB Live. Has anybody tried doing this?
