AWM release

I've heard that Analytical Workspace Manager will be released in OTN by 2nd JUne. Can anyone pls confirm the date for AWM Release in OTN.
thanx
uma

Development is no longer publishing a projected a release date for Analytic Workspace Manager. Instead, the quality and stability of the software will drive the release. We are close. Features and UI have been frozen.
Currently AWM is in showstopper mode (bug fixing) and will release ASAP.

  • Good document for creating cube using AWM wih oracle 10.1.0.2 version

Can anyone provide some good guide for implementing the OLAP cubes using ORACLE ver 10.1.0.2.0 with AWM Release 1.
Also, please let me know whether I need to apply any patches.
The demo provided under this link has some differences when trying to implement.

    Your help is appreciated.

Well, if some of the required componets were missing, I would imagine you getting an error when trying to connect?
Where is this ASP application actually running?
Is it running on your localhost IIS web server?
If not, any setup on your computer will be irrelevent.
If it is, you need to install MDAC components, and 2.8 is the latest.
If running on your local IIS, did you try to create a very basic ASP page which just creates a connection to the database in question? Does that work?
Do you have ON ERROR statements in your code to bypass any/all SQL errors?
If you create a simple UDL file on your desktop and specify the server/user/password (ater selecting Oracle OLEDB driver), does the connect button work?

  • AWM for Linux ?

Is there a AWM released for Linux environment ? I could find only the Windows version at OTN.

If you're referring to the "AWM 2" version, that first appeared with 10.1.0.4, then the only Linux version is the one that ships on the 10.2 Client CD - as far as I know there was no Linux version of the 10.1.0.4 release.
If you're going to use AWM10.2 however, see the other thread on this forum about Windows Issues with 10.2 - basically you have to ensure that the XML Developer Kit is installed in the client home, along with AWM10.2, to ensure that the latter works with the model view - this issue also applies to Linux x86, not sure about other platforms.
    cheers

  • AWM and remote connectivity

I have AWM Release 2 and I connect to Oracle Rel 2 remotely.
    - I notice that the connection drops when the AWM is untouched for a while.
    - I can't disconnect it. Gives error while detaching the work space.
    - I exit AWM and try connect again it gives error message that another user already attached.
    - Only way I can work around is by restarting Oracle on the remote machine (shutdown immediate - startup )
Is there a way to keep the AWM session active always ??

    Rubik,
I have the same problem with AWM, however, you shouldn’t need to shutdown the database in order to re-attach the AW. You should be able to kill the session that is holding the AW open in RW mode by either of the following methods:
    Use OX available here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/htdocs/eaplic.html?http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/olap/ox_install_win.zip
.. and take a look at the Session Manager -> Kill tool.
Kill your session from sql *Plus
    sqlplus “/ as sysdba”
    select username, sid, serial# from v$session where username='YOUR_USER_NAME';
This will return your username, sid and serial#.
    Then just:
alter system kill session ‘SID, SERIAL#’
    Hope this helps.

  • AWM 10.1 release maintaining a dimension

I have a wierd problem maintaining a dimension.
    Consider the following scenerio in a dimension;
    Atomic level
    Hierarchy Level 1
    Hierarchy Level 2
if here are common key values in the atomic level and hierarchy level 1, then the loading of the dimension fails.
However, there is no problem if we have common key values in Hierarchy Level 1 and Hierarchy Level 2.
I am running 10.1.4.0 Oracle Database and AWM 10.1.0.4
The hierachy is based on levels
It looks very wierd, can someone throw some light on this.
    Thanks in advance
    - Shiva

I think I have also experiened similar problem. If HL1 & HL2 has common key values, it may load the dimension but your results while viewing the DIM will be very unpredictable and may not be what you were looking for. You could turn on the surrogate key option to eliminate any such scenario.
    Cheers
    Suresh.

  • Error while creating AW using AWM

I am using AWM version 10.2.0.3.0, Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - Prod.
Using the user apps when trying to create an AW using AWM. Schema->apps-> Analytic Workspace -> Create Analytic Workspace
    I get an error
    oracle.express.ExpressServerException
java.sql.SQLException: ORA-33292: insufficient permissions to access analytic workspace SYS.AWXML using the specified access mode.
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.GENCONNECTIONINTERFACE", line 70
    ORA-06512: at line 1
what permission should I set get this working?

Not a good idea to grant OLAP_DBA role as this can cause a lot or problems, it is about the same as granting DBA to a user but when you connect an OLAP query tool the schema you may get additional problems.
In terms of the original system error it does sound as if you do not have sufficient privileges to create an AW. Hence, Ragnar's suggestion to use assign OLAP_USER is a great way to start.
Also as the SYS user try issuing GRANT SELECT TO PUBLIC on SYS.AW$XML. It could be your OLAP installation is somehow incorrectly configured?
I am assuming you have applied the 10.2.0.3 patchset (all the steps - the installation via the Universal Installer and the post installation scripts) and applied the 10.2.0.3A patchset?

    OLAP
There is not much detail in your log, but I suspect that your OLAP mappings are incomplete or the maintenance of your dimension to load the new attribute data somehow failed. I would check the OLAP AWM build logs for more information.

There are posts on the OLAP forum covering this problem. Anthony Waite from the OLAP Product Management team has provided the following information:
e new, default Model View in AWM 10.1.0.4.0 is based upon the OLAP Analytic Workspace API (a.k.a. AW/XML). Just to recap and further clarify my earlier post, you must pass the following requirements in order to use it:
    1) Be sure to be using the Enterprise Edition of the Oracle Database 10g.
    SQL> select banner from v$version where banner like 'Oracle%';
You should see Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition.
    2) Be sure to have the Data Warehouse database configuration or the OLAP Option enabled.
    SQL> select parameter, value from v$option where parameter='OLAP';
    You should see OLAP TRUE.
    3) Be sure that the RDBMS 10.1.0.4 patch set has been completely installed. Users often miss the required Post-Installation Steps such as running catpatch.sql.
    SQL> select comp_name, version, status from dba_registry;
You should see VALID and 10.1.0.4.0 for the OLAP components.
    4) The Oracle Database must have the compatibility mode of 10.1 to use the Model View as it relies on the unique features found in Oracle Database 10g.
    SQL> select name, value, description from v$parameter where name ='compatible';
You should see 10.1, not 9.2 or earlier.
    5) Please refer to the patchnote.htm that is bundled with 10.1.0.4.0 patch set. Only you are aware of what type of database configuration you have. You will want to pay close attention to "7.2.1.3 Set the SHARED_POOL_SIZE and JAVA_POOL_SIZE Initialization Parameters" and "7.2.2 Upgrade the Release 10.1 Database".
Basically, I believe you have missed these required steps after installing the 10.1.0.4.0 patch set from the OUI: (pasted from the patchnote.htm)

Basically, I believe you have missed these required steps after installing the 10.1.0.4.0 patch set from the OUI:
    (pasted from the patchnote.htm)
    13.     Enter the following SQL*Plus commands:
    14.     SQL> STARTUP UPGRADE
    15.     SQL> SPOOL patch.log
    16.     SQL> @ORACLE_BASE\ORACLE_HOME\rdbms\admin\catpatch.sql
    17.     SQL> SPOOL OFF
    18.
    19.     Review the patch.log file for errors and inspect the list of components that is displayed at the end of catpatch.sql script.
This list provides the version and status of each SERVER component in the database.
    20.     If necessary, rerun the catpatch.sql script after correcting any problems.
    21.     Restart the database:
    22.     SQL> SHUTDOWN
    23.     SQL> STARTUP
    24.
    25.     Run the utlrp.sql script to recompile all invalid PL/SQL packages now instead of when the packages are accessed for the first time. This step is optional but recommended.
    26.     SQL> @ORACLE_BASE\ORACLE_HOME\rdbms\admin\utlrp.sql

  • 10.2.0.3 Release of Analytic Workspace Manager?

If Bud, Anthony or someone from OLAP Product Management is around - is there any news on when the next release of AWM will be available? (the 10.2.0.3 database patchset is now available on metalink for download). Is this new release going to have any new features? I think I heard someone mention that AWM 10.2.0.3 will have the sparsity advisor built in, it'd be interesting to hear what's coming up.
    many thanks

Just incase that was the old (10.2.0.2) release of AWM, I've just rerun it with the version now on OTN (10.2.0.3):

  • Do awm 10.2.0.3.0A  be the same awm 10.2.0.3.0 ???

    hi all,
there is many post talk about awm 10.2.0.3.0 and its advances like: Sparcity Advisor ...
I use currently the awm 10.2.0.3.0A and in this version, there's not the function Sparcity Advisor. Can you explain me how to get the awm 10.2.0.3.0? What's differents between this 2 version (freeware, shareware)?
    Thanks !

The sparsity advisor is displayed when you right mouse click on a cube. The readme file shows the following information:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/olap/awm102030A_readme.html
Analytic Workspace Manager in Release 10.2.0.3.0 provides a Sparsity Advisor, which examines the source data and makes recommendations for defining OLAP cubes that will provide the best performance. The functionality of calculation plans has been enhanced to provide post-load forecasting, allocation, and aggregation. Analytic Workspace Manager also supports Java add-ins, so that any Java developer can extend and customize the tools in Analytic Workspace Manager. Please refer to the Oracle OLAP Application Developer's Guide 10.2.0.3 for further details.
    Hope this helps

  • Oracle AWM

    Dear community,
I would like to create cubes and to perform olap analysis by Oracle.
I read that there is an Oracle tool named AWM (Analytic Workspace Manager) that do exactly this.
The problem is that I can't find the download link in the Oracle Download page (http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/index.html).
    Why?
I'm wondering: is the AWM tool up-to-dated, or has it been replaced by any more recent tool?
In the case the tool is still up-to-date, do you know where can I donwload it?
On the contrary, if the tool has been replaced, can you tell me which up-to-dated tool do you suggest me to perform olap operations by Oracle?
    Thank you in advance.
    Giovanni

    Hi,
    this link works for me:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/olap/olap_downloads.html#software
    AWM is still up-to-date. There's a 11.2 release.
There is also a good starting point to find software, documentation, tutorials and so on:

I have Oracle client 10.2.0.1 software with AWM 10.2.0.1 . I want to build a dimension with value-based hierarchy . In AWM I have hierarchy editor with the two radio buttons for choosing type of hierachy : Level Based hierarchy and Value Based hierarchy . But the secod one (Value Based hierarchy) is disabled - I can not choosing this type of hierarchy . Why this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Aurel

    Hi there,
I really would not recommend that you work with the 10.2.0.1 version of AWM. This version is fairly old now and there have been a number of important bug fixes added to more recent releases.
What version of the Oracle database are you running? And on what operating system?
I suggest that you consult the following link and ensure that you are working with the versions of BOTH database and AWM that are recommended by Oracle:

    Thanks
