AWS for FMS 4 = Unreliable

Hi,
I purchased an instance of AWS for FMS 4, and it is very un-reliable.
A few times a week, the server will go down, and you need to reboot the server to make it work.
When it was going down, the load on the server was much lower than what it should be capable of supporting.
Expect your applications to go down for many hours, or days, in case it takes you a while to notice the down time!
Anything to do to improve this ****?

Yup... that's how it goes in shared virtualized environments. The problem there is, you won't know why the server went down... could have been you, could have been your neighbor, could have been cheap commodity hardware crapping out.
As much as AWS is great for backup and noncritical apps, it is, IMHO, not suitable for any critical production environment. The best answer to your question is to get your own dedicated hardware in a reliable datacenter with immediate response monitoring.

We'd like to port our FMS app over to AWS, and FMS on AWS looks like the way to do that, but the only pricing I can find (here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/amazonwebservices/) is based on RTMFP connections. Since we only use RTMP, how would our costs be determined? Thanks.

FMS on AWS was primararily meant for using RTMFP as not everyone could afford Enterprise Edition. But nothing stops you from using RTMP on AWS. You can choose any of instances which suits your requirement and can use RTMP.

Is there any third party control panel available for FMS?

There might be something there that is at least similar to the app your looking for.
edit: There is one shareware that is an iTunes plugin called Multi-tunes. With it you can create multiple iTunes libraries, one library called "Main" one called "Bootlegs" etc, and Multi-Tunes will allow you to quickly switch between them from within the iTunes window. Not exactly what your looking for but close.

Installation issue: Authentication: AWS for Windows NTLM returns error

We are rebuilding our STG with Plumtree 5.0.4. After I installed Optional Enterprise Web Components, the Authentication: AWS for Windows NTLM returns error. I am wondering if anyone has the similar experience and could help to fix the issue. I have located error with the virtual directory but unable to fix it.

Hardware requirements for FMS

Hello,
I work on a project where FMS will be used as the main streaming server. We are going to use p2p/multicast technology which is available in FMS. My first question is : What are the approximate hardware requirements for such a server ? REMARK : this server will be connected to a switch with 1G/bits ports
If we use p2p/multicast technology the maximal number of users which the system can handle is (theoretically)unlimited, is this right ? or I miss something ?

How to create a support ticket for FMS?

Good day - how do i create a support request for my new Flash Media Interactive Server? I've tried to contact our Russian Adobe support - but got a reply stating, that FMS is not supported by adobe support.. Btw - how can that be?! But, nevertheless - i do need to open a support ticket, as i have several problems, which interfere with production of FMS..

Based on experience with this matter, I would just like to confirm that what JayCharles says about the support is correct.
You need to purchase support for FMS and other products like Connect etc....
If you have bought FMS through Adobe distributor or partner, they could (and should) help you with this (buying support).
And finally, the good people on this forum can also help as they did help me many times....

Trying to buy single instance support for FMS from Adobe. Need help.

Hey all,
I've spent all day on the phone with Adobe trying to purchase single incident support for some server side developement questions on Flash Media Interactive Server 3.0.
So far I have not been able to find anyone at Adobe that knows how to do this. The web site says it is possible and they even give a number to call but I've talked to at least three people at that number and no one could help me. I've also talked to people in Sales, Volume license sales,and at least three different areas in technical support and no one seems to know how to get it done. Has anyone ever successfully purchased single incident support for FMS 3 and if so is there some specific number I could call to talk to someone who can make it happen.

I am answering my own question. After spending an entire afternoon on the phone being bounced around between Adobe technical support and Adobe sales, I've come to the determination that you cannot buy single incident support for Flash Media Server. At least I was never able to talk to someone at Adobe that knew if it was possible. The number on the web site where it specifically says to call for purchase of single incident support for FMS is not the correct number.

Any known security best practices to follow for FMS deployment

We have recently deployed Flash Media Streaming server 3.5.2 and Flash Media Encoder on a Windows 2003 machine. Do you guys know of any security best practices to follow for the FMS server deployment on a Windows machine, could you please point me to that resource.

I will add some concepts, I am not sure how all of them work technically but there should be enough here for you to
dig deeper, and also alot of this is relevant to your environment and how you want to deploy it.
I have done a 28 server deployment, 4 origin and 24 edge servers.
All the Edge servers on the TCP/IP properties we disabled file and printer sharing. Basically this is a way in for hackers and we disabled this only on the edge servers as these are the ones presented to the public.
We also only allowed ports 1935, 80, 443 on our NICs. Protocol numbers are 6 and 17, this means that you are allowing UDP and TCP. So definitely test out your TCP/IP port filtering until you are confortable that all your connection types are working and secure.
Use RTMPE over RTMP, as it is there to be used and I am surprised not more people use it. The problem as with any other encryption protocol, it may cause higher overhead on resources of the servers holding the connections.
You may want to look at SWF verification. In my understanding, it works as the following. You publish a SWF file on a website. This is a source code that your player uses for authentication. If you enable your edge servers to only listen for authentication requests from that SWF file, then hopefully you are really lessening the highjacking possibilities on your streams.
If you are doing encoding via FME then I would suggest that you download the authentication plugin that is available on the Flash Media Encoder download site.
There are other things you can look at making it more secure like adaptor.xml, using a front end load balancer, HTML domains, SWF domains,
Firewalls and DRM.

How would you configure ports and IPs for FMS 4.5 to allow RTMFP streaming across the Internet?

Basically I've got an AS3 app set up that allows video chats between n number of parties, using RTMFP. The problem is that when I tried to connect a computer from across the Internet, as opposed to our intranet, suddenly it couldn't connect at all to RTMFP for that app (though it was able to succeed in using an RTMP fallback that was in there).
So after hunting around, I got the network administrator to supposedly open up 1935-1960 UDP for outbound traffic on the external IP for the FMS's server (same server as the AS3 app), and he apparently opened them up for inbound traffic as well. I also went into Adaptor.xml and changed this element:
<HostPort>:19350-19360</HostPort>
to say this:
<HostPort public="XX.XX.XXX.XXX:19350-19360">:19350-19360</HostPort>
where XX.XX.XXX.XXX is the external IP for that computer. At this point in time though, even though computers across the Internet are able to connect through RTMFP, the video/audio streams aren't getting through at all across the Internet. What's more is that even on our intranet, there are one-way versions of that problem now.
Network administration is not my strong suit, in all honesty. Where would I need to start looking in order to solve this problem? Thanks!

Found the answer to the problem. It was something fairly specific to our internal network. Getting metadata for FMs where data structure elements also have structure

I'm sorry if this is a double post, but I added this initially to a thread that was already set to answered, and I'm not sure of the protocol - if there will be any further responses if that is the case, so I'm opening this new threas as well.
I've been using RFC_GET_FUNCTION_INTERFACE and RFC_GET_STRUCTURE_DEFINITION successfully for a number of years, but now I have a problem. Some FMs, like /POSDW/CREATE_TRANSACTIONS_EXT, have parameters that have structures, whose elements also have structure. But RFC_GET_STRUCTURE_DEFINITION does not give a handle to get the structure of a returned data element.
Does anybody know how I can work around this?

I think you can use the code similar to the one below...
some of the things not covered in this are
1. all types for which CALL FUNCTION 'RFC_GET_NAMETAB' is not returning result, you can call CALL FUNCTION 'RFC_GET_STRUCTURE_DEFINITION' directly. I have not covered that in this code. Hope this is helps in resolving your issue.

Settings of live stream for FMS 4.5 on Amazon

Hi. We are cureently have an issue with setting up an outcoming stream for a livechat. We are using FMS 4.5 on Amazon and OSMF player. When streaming from FMLE everything is working fine. But when streaming from as3 we receive buffering status of OSMF player and wornings in amazon server:

Hi. We are cureently have an issue with setting up an outcoming stream for a livechat. We are using FMS 4.5 on Amazon and OSMF player. When streaming from FMLE everything is working fine. But when streaming from as3 we receive buffering status of OSMF player and wornings in amazon server:

Syntax for FMS

I'd like to create formatted search that will be update the UDF_AcctName in payment header menu. The purpose of this FMS is to get account name used in payment means screen, so that the user doesn't have to input manually (just press SHIFT + F2).
So, i tried to create FMS based on query but unfortunately it seems still have problem. please help me to correct the problem.

Actually i've tested it yesterday and it's okay eventhough the payment means screen is already closed (not active).
For your reference i used this query when i did the test:

Urgent Need for FMS Consultant

We need to hire a consultant who is familiar with how audio
recording works to the FMS from Flash. We have a web application
that needs to capture a users recording completely however when the
bandwidth is very low (<33kbps) or the latency is higher than
250ms often the audio files are cutoff at the beginning. We've set
the audio buffer to 30 seconds and have no idea why the audio flv
files which get recorded to the FMS server are cut off for 5, 10 or
15 seconds. This doesn't happen with higher bandwidth and low
latency. We're using the same basic code that's in Adobe's
Tutorial_list demo. And we've added code to wait and flush the
audio buffer should it still be pushing data to the server. However
the problem with the beginning of the files is a real problem for
us. We would like to higher a consult who is well versed in this
capability and can help us understand why it's happening and
whether there is any change that we can make to our code to ensure
that the files get uploaded without any part of it cutoff. You can

Building FLV Player for FMS Video and Audio

Hi All,
Am new to flash development. I would need all of your
knowledge to build an application for FLV Streaming.
I need to write a FLV player which dynamically picks the file
from FMS Server by taking the arguments password to the
movie/player.
Please let me know how do i go about it.

I read the live docs information about NetStream.onMetaData,
and this tells me that it is possible that I might get some
information about an audio codec, but it doesn't really help all
that much in learning if there is a way to tell if there is an
audio track present at all. Does such a possibility exist?
