AWS Hana one Volume usage - Amazon charging

Hi All,
Currently I am having a HANA One AWS instance which I have started 2 weeks back. However when I see my account activity I found amazon is asking a high amount for the storage volume usage. Obviously they allow 30GB free per month but my volume allocation is more than 560GB which is waste as almost nothing is there.
Can anyone suggest me what I should do to avoid being charged so much by amazon? Please advise ASAP.
Regards,
TD

Hi Swapan,
Thanks a lot for responding to my queries. However being on AWS with a pre-configured instance and provision to use it even for personal training is the most useful thing that SAP gave us but this should be categorized in my opinion.
I totally understand the AWS Hana instance is meant primarily for production usage hence the cluster configuration is made like that but this is not at all useful to the guys who use it for training / personal development. The current configuration is using 520GB of storage which is good enough for production usage - or sort of but totally overkill for the training use. The extra cost of this is not mentioned anywhere in SAP(as I see, pardon if I missed anywhere) and should be clearly mentioned in the system. No SAP Video from SAPHANA Academy says the same.
Yes, I am using my Hana instance for my personal usage/training so the cost that extra storage is bothering me - moreover didn't saw this mentioned anywhere.
I would request SAP to let people know how to optimized their storage utilization and save money in instances - meant for training purposes. Further I feel if SAP should consider providing two separate class of SAP HANA One instances - PRD usage/Training Usage and both with diff utilization. (Might be asking too much but I pretty feel there are many guys out in this web forest to utilize this HANA One for personal development)That would be a most effective way and will optimize resource utilization throughout. (A guy blocking 520GB storage for his training is quite overkill and waste of AWS resources)
Please check if you can guide us with this optimization.

  • HANA One on AWS default username and password for hdbsql having issues

Hello, I am going through the SAP HANA Academy online for the HANA Recommends project, and just getting my HANA instance setup and running through AWS.
    In this video: http://youtu.be/P0U-XSnSd1Y
There is a point where the author is showing how to change the password for hdbsql. In order to do this, I need to log into hdbsql first using the default password, and then change it. Unfortunately, I keep getting an error saying that the username or password is incorrect (*10: invalid username or password: SQLSTATE: 28000).
Here are the commands I'm entering into PUTTY:
    hdbsql => \c -i 00 -n localhost:30015 -u SYSTEM -p manager
    Is the default password different?

    Hi Ahmed,
    I got the same problem.
To solve it, you can change the password in SAP HANA One Management Console.
Open your browser and put in the public DNS of your HANA box.
Enter your AWS Access Key Id and Secret Access Key
You should have the options to change the password.

  • SAP hana one on AWS

    Hi Experts,
I have launched SAP Hana One on AWS with CC2.8x Large suse linux environment. And configured Hana studio with database user SYSTEM.
My question is that is SAP Hana on on AWS comes with SAP solution (like ECC EHP6 or EHP7) or do we need to install SAP solution seperately?
I can login to OS  level thru putty with HDBADM user and i can see /usr/sap/HDB/instance.
Please let me know if SAP Hana one on AWS comes with sap solution then let me know how to launch it with SAP gui
If sap solution not comes with Hana one let me know how to implement sap solution on HAna one AWS.

  • HANA Studio connection with HANA server in HANA One (Rev 56 and up)

    Dear HANA One Customers,
You must be aware of our latest HANA One release with HANA SP6 (blog: The specified item was not found. Once you launch a new instance using HANA One Rev 52.1, you can upgrade your instance to HANA Rev 56 or HANA Rev 62. You can do it in steps (Rev 52 -> Rev 56 -> Rev 62) or do directly (Rev 52 -> Rev 62). By the way, Rev 62 is the first HANA 1.0 SP6 release in HANA One. As we recommended, if you upgrade HANA Version to 56 or 62, please upgrade your HANA Studio and HANA Client to the corresponding version.
If you upgrade to either Rev 56 or Rev 62, you don't need to add any entry to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts to connect HANA Studio to use all the functionality of HANA Studio with HANA in cloud. While HANA One's add-on manager, upgrades. it makes a change in one configuration file (global.ini) for public_hostname_resolution.
However, if you change IP of your HANA One instance, you need to update this parameter which is described in the Quick Start Guide. The steps are summarized as:
In the Administration editor of HANA Studio,
Choose the Configuration tab. A list of all configuration files appears.
    Expand the global.ini configuration file
    Select the section public_hostname_resolution
Choose Next and enter the values map_hanaserver in the Key field and your IP or public DNS in the Value field.
For example, set the values as Key: map_hanaserver, Value: xx.xx.xx.xx if you use an IP address including an Elastic IP. If you use DNS as the value it could be ec2-xx-xx-xx-xx.compute-1.amazonaws.com
With this new feature, the same HANA Studio can connect to many HANA One instances at the same time which was not possible earlier prior to Rev 56.
    Thanks,
    Swapan

    Yes Aleksandr
    I think you are right.
After doing many installation of HANA Server in differrent AWS instances it didn't work for me.
But when I installed the HANA Studio on another machine with more RAM it worked.
I think we have to install HANA Studio on another AWS instance with 16 GB RAM to make it run smoothly.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Understanding replica volume and recovery point volume usage with SQL Express Full Backup

I am running some trials to test DPM 2012 R2's suitability for protection a set of SQL Server databases and I am trying to understand what happens when I create a recovery point with Express Full Backup.
The databases use simple recovery model and in the tests I have made so far I have loaded more data into the databases between recovery points since that will be a typical scenario - the databases will grow over time. The database files are set to autogrowth
    by 10%
I have been looking at the change in USED space in the replica volume and in the recovery point volume after new recovery points and have a hard time understanding it.
After the first test where data was loaded into the database and an Express Full Backup recovery point was created, I saw an increase in used space in the replica volume of 85 Gb and 29 GB in the recovery point volume. That is somewhat more than I think
the database grew (I realize that should have monitored that, but did not), but anyway it is not completely far out.
In the next test I did the same thing except I loaded twice as much data into the database.
Here is where it gets odd: This causes zero increased usage in the replica volume and 33 GB increased use in the recovery point volume.
I do not understand why the replica volume use increases with some recovery points and not with others.
Note that I am only discussing increased usage in the volumes - not actual volume growth. The volumes are still their original size.
I have been using 3-4 days on the test and the retention period is set to 12 days, so nothing should be expired yet.

    Hi,
The replica volume usage represents the physical database file(s) size. The database file size on the replica should be equal to the database file size on the protected server.  This is both .mdf and .ldf files.  If when you load data
into the database and you overwrite current tables versus adding new ones, or if there is white space in the database files and the load simply uses that white space, then there will not be any increase in the file size, so there will not be any increase
    in the replica used space.
The recovery point volume will only contain delta changes applied to the database files.  As the changed blocks overwrite the files on the replica during express full backup, VSS (volsnap.sys) driver copies the old blocks about to be overwritten
to the recovery point volume before allowing the change to be applied to the file on the replica.
Hope this helps explain what you are seeing.

  • SAP HANA One SQL syntax

    Hello,
I am using SAP Hana One version 1.00.68.384084 with Spatial capabilities
I have some questions about the SQL syntax to be used for:
         1. Is there a query I could use to check if a table was modified?
         2. What is the syntax to insert spatial data into a table (insert points for instance) and specify the points SRID? By default SRID=0.
         3. How to I alter SRID of a geometry
         4. Which SRID's are supported by Hana?
         5. What UOM(units of measure) are supported by Hana. For instance if I use ST_DISTANCE, what UOM is returned? Could I specify another UOM?
    Thank you,
    Ovidiu

    Ovidiu,
HANA One does not provide any forward looking statement. However, it supported SPS4, SPS5 and SPS6. So, SPS7 will be available in HANA One. When SPS6 was available, a notification went out to all HANA One customers from AWS Marketplace.  HANA One team will publicize in this forum and all SPS7 messages including this particular thread so that all interested in SPS7 will receive notifications automatically posting questions here about SPS7.
    Thanks,

  • Instance Alerts Package on HANA One

Installing and configuring Instance Alerts package on HANA One.
This package allows users to set alerts on Disk,  Memory , CPU and Instance Uptime for HANA One instance. If alert is generated user will get email notifications describing type of alert generated, alert level set and value at alert generation.
This package will be useful if one wants to monitor their Disk, memory, CPU level on the instance and get notified if any parameter goes beyond range level.
Here are the steps one can follow to install and configure Alert package.
    1) Launch HANA One Rev 70.0 from SAP HANA One on AWS Marketplace
    2) Go to Addons tab -> New section on console page.
    3) On Instance Alerts package click Download & Install and click Install on pop up
    4) You can see the package installed in Installed section on Addons tab.  Click on "Go to App" to open the UI of Instance Alert package.
You would be able to go to UI of Alert page.
    5) For creating Alerts click on "Create New Alert" button. Various alerts setting are displayed.
    6) Here for example we will set alert on Disk for "/usr/sap"
         i) Select Disc in Alert type
ii) Select /usr/sap on Disc type
iii) Set Alert level. Warning range and Critical range. Alerts are in percentage form for Disc, CPU and Memory. While Uptime is in days.
For setting level just move the slider and set the range.
iv) Put the Status ON if one wants to get Email notification on Alerts.
         v) Put the email you want to receive notifications.
vi)  CC list is optional. Add additional comma separated email address one wants to receive notifications
vii) Click on confirm to set the alert list.
Below is the screenshot of email alert set on Disc for /usr/sap.
"My Alerts" section will display the alerts created.
From the row in My Alerts section one can perform operations of OFF/ON Alerts, Delete Alerts and Edit Alerts.
"Alerts History" section displays the Alerts generated if levels specified on alert type goes beyond set level.
Besides seeing the Alert in History section, you also receive email notification on Email specified while creating Alerts.
Below is the sample email content

Hi, I have met this problem very similiar with you.
It tell me the language of package and logon are different, so I was unable to create package.
I found a workaround to slove it..
I change my package language from English to English(USA).
    Just a tip.
    I don't understand it.

  • How can I migrate file shares & permissions from one volume to another on the same server?

I am replacing a storage array and as part of that process, I need to move files/folders and Shares/permissions from one Volume to another volume within the same server.
The server is Windows 2003 file server.  The file transfers are not a problem, moving all 40 shares with permissions etc. is my main concern because in order to maintain everything I need to change the drive letter of the new volume to match the old
one so that links to various resources throughout the network do not break.

    Hi,
If you want to copy files/folders from one Volume to another volume within the same server, you could use the File Server Migration Tool (FSMT) or Robocopy to accomplish your goals. The tool can move all of the files from the shares on your original volume
    to the new volume.
For more detailed information, you could refer to the articles below:
    File Server Migration Toolkit
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2006.10.utilityspotlight.aspx
The File Server Migration Toolkit (FSMT) is a free download available at:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?DisplayLang=en&id=10268
    Robocopy
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc733145.aspx
FSMT and Robocopy will not copy Share permissions but only NTFS permissions. So if the drive letter will not be changed, you can backup and restore the Share permission with steps here:

  • Migrate File Server data from one volume to another

I am looking for the best way to handle this situation. We have a VHD that has a 4KB cluster size that is getting close to the 16TB mark so no expanding past that due to the cluster size. In the past whenever i needed to pull this off i would preload as
much data as possible with robocopy, then during a maintenance window take the share offline, do a refresh with robocopy then flip everything that i needed to flip drive letter and share setup etc.
I have the space to do a complete copy like this so that is not an issue. But other things to keep in mind are the data is deduplicated so we are talking 20TB total. The other is the backup of the File Server is done at a file level with DPM so DPM will
see this as a new volume and be an issue.
At this point i have time to plan and am just looking for ideas.

  • Can't move files from one volume to another

Using the 1.2 client on SLED, I don't appear to be able to move files from
one volume to another. I have two drive "mappings", each to a
different volume on a NW65SP5 box, but when I try and cut and paste files
I get an error saying "Not on the same file system". However if I drop to
a terminal and just use mv, that works.
    Is this a known issue?

    Copy works just great though.
I know there are some issues in Gnome/Nautilus that's being worked upon.
These are outlined in the Readme. For example it's not possible to copy a
folder from Server A to Server B, then delete the folder form Server A.
Finally later on copy the folder back to Server A from Server B.
Also Gnome is leaking file handles, which could be the cause for the
    problem we're getting here.
I'll ask my contact at Novell about this and have him enter it in as a bug
if it's not a known issue.
For a workaround you already have a good alternative of using mv in a
    terminal.

  • 2 Power adapters...one glows amber to charge the other stays green??

    Hello,
I have 2 power adapters for my ibook, the one that came with it originally & one I bought as an extra. They are both 45W apple ones. I have had problems with my ibook powering up & after replacing the dc-in board to no avail I have been told it's the logic board that needs replacing.
I have just got a replacement logic board which I am yet to fit. As it stands at the moment I have replaced the dc-in board but still won't charge the battery?
Also when I use the adapter that came with my ibook the light on the adapter glows green. When I plug the extra adapter in it glows amber but doesnt charge the battery?
I am just confused as to why one adapter glows green & the other glows amber with the same battery in?
I am also concerned to know if it would have been possible for the replacement adapter to have caused the logic board failure in the first place? As I am replacing the logic board soon I don't want the same mistake to happen again!
    Anyone help??

All-right Master Meister, one last throw of the dice for me...
Do you have a friend or relative who knows how to use a multi-meter? If so, get them to check the voltage + current flow from the adapters when connected to the mains (iBook unattached).
Please do not try this yourself if you are unfamiliar with multi-meters; you could electrocute yourself or irreparably damage your equipment.
If you are reasonably competent with basic electronics, hook up a 12V car battery to one side of the charger and a 3V torch (with batteries removed) to the other side. If the bulb lights, this will tell you if the adapter is working.
I mean no disrespect: this is a potentially dangerous experiment and if you don't feel you are up to it, then don't try.
Instead, take the adapters to your local electronics store and pay them to check them for you.

Using BootCamp I installed windows and everything worked fine. After installing windows and testing everything, I switched back to OS X and this time I tried to make another partition on my single portioned Mac volume and named it Backup. That too worked. Now I have three Volumes
    1)Development2)Backup3)BootCamp.
Next when I switched to Windows, It should the classic error, No Bootable device found, please insert a Bootable CD and press any key. When I tried to enter my Mac OS X install DVD and by pressing option key, it does not show me the proper Mac OS X development volume. It keeps going back to the No bootable device found message.

you can't add a partition in between - you put Windows to a new partition number.
    GPT (GUID)
    EFI
    Mac HFS
    Lion Recovery
    Windows
And now you have two HFS
One partition and one Windows (plus Lion Recovery).
If you were to have more, it can't be before Windows for one thing.
