AWSWAX.OCX add-on error on launch

I noticed a post on this back in September (Thread
ID=1197687) and there didn't appear to be a resolution. I'd like to
try again.
We have courses that have recently been experiencing this
error... "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem with an
add-on and needs to close. The following add-on was running when
this problem occurred: awswax.ocx"
The problem occurs on courses that have been re-published
recently (due to content updates). However, the publish settings
have not changed at all. It also doesn't happen every time the
course is launched. After a few attempts, the course does in fact
launch.
After some investigation - it appears that a MS critical
patch may be causing the IE trapping of the error and subsequent
shut-down. However, we're unable to determine what's causing the
error in the first place to fix it.
HELP!
Kristin

Have you tried simply removing the Authorware web player then
reinstalling it?
I've not seen this problem before and dunno what might be
causing it -
maybe a conflict with another IE plugin?

  • Awswax.ocx add-on error during course quit

    We have started getting an error almost every time we quit
    our courses. We are getting it on both our main server and our test
    server. Many of the courses, especially on the main server, have
    not been changed for some time. We are running those same exact
    courses and we never recieved the error before, but now we are. We
    don't get it all the time, but about 2/3's of the time but there
    doesn't seem to be any pattern or anything.
    The error message says:
    Internet Explorer has encountered a problem with an add-on
    and needs to close.
    The following add-n was running when this problem occured:
    File: awswax.ocx
    Company Name: (Not verified) Macromedia, Inc.
    Description: Macromedia Authorware Web Player ActiveX Control
    (Complete)

    If it suddenly just started happening, something must have
    changed.
    It's likely not a server issue since, by the time you are
    quitting the
    piece, the files have been downloaded to your machine and is
    running
    locally.
    So the first thing to check is the client machines running
    the piece.
    Can you narrow down on what machines this does happen to and
    which it
    does not? Then find any disparity between those?
    Perhaps the machines which show this problem have had
    software, drivers,
    or other 'updated' files installed recently?
    In the file itself, what is happening before it quits? Any
    functions not
    being unloaded or screen elements (especially activeX
    controls, sprites,
    etc) which are not erased prior to quitting?

  • Ocx add-on error in Flash 9

    Occasionally IE 6 will crash with an error message about a
    problem with the Flash9.ocx add-on.
    I used to get this with Flash8b.ocx a lot and I was hoping
    Flash 9 would fix it, but a few minutes after upgrading and going
    to a site containing flash movies it crashed again.
    There are lots of other posts about this but I have never
    seen one properly resolved.
    For the time being I will keep using Flash 7, which doesn't
    seem to have the problem.
    If anybody has figured this one out then please let me know.
    thanks,
    Nick

  • Flash9.ocx add-on errors

    I've been getting alot of these add-on errors lately and it
    crashes IE. I've tried reinstalling flash but it hasn't helped. Is
    there anything I can do other than disabling the add-on? I would
    really appreciate any advice.

    If you got an error message that says there has been a
    problem in the Flash9.ocx, here is how to fix things...
    The possible solutions are:
    1) update your video drivers. For instance, with a video card
    with NVIDIA graphical processor, you can use this address:
    http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
    Then see if you get the error again
    2) If the problem is still there, you'll have to come back to
    an earlier version of the flash player. Here is how it is supposed
    to be done when everything goes well:
    uninstall Flash Player 9 using:
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/installers/8/uninstall_flash_player.exe
    then re-install Flash Player 8 or 7 using:
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp8_archive.zip
    3) if the uninstallation fails, here is the manual way to do
    achieve a similar result but that should always work:
    Go in the following folder:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
    Change the name of Flash9.ocx file into _Flash9.ocx (be sure
    IE is closed first)
    Dowload this zipped file:
    http://www.robostrike.com/pub/utils/Flash9.zip
    unzip the file and place it in the above folder,
    name it Flash9.ocx (the file is in fact a copy of Flash8a.ocx
    and this way, it will be used instead of the bugged version 9)
    Restart Internet Explorer => congratulation you are now
    back in version 8 and everything should run perfectly fine!
    As for my computer: problem solved!

  • When I try to resume adobe manager reader download I get an add-on error

    my computer is a Windows Vista (64 Bit) Sp1
    It already had adobe reader 9 installed, but I decided to install Adobe Reader 9.1.
    I don't know if it's the same version so this is what happened.
    I downloaded adobe reader 9.1 and then I paused it and turn off the computer. The next day I tried to resume the Adobe Reader 9.1 with the adobe reader manager that was in my desktop, but I got an error message saying an add-on was being used and it had to close.  Everytime I resume it always closes.  I tried deleting the add-on ( get_atlcom Class, which is the add-on you have to download in order to get adobe reader 9.1)  and installing it again, but the same Adobe Manager page that pops up with the add-on error comes on my screen.
    this is the message that i get from the add-on error
    gp.ocx
    get_atlcom Class

    Description DLM
    it's something like that
    can anyone help me with this error.
    Or can I just simply remove(uninstall) adobe reader 9 and try to install it again?
    thank you

    If I were you, I would remove everything related with Reader by the method Pat Willener describes in the "can't install adobe reader" thread, and then download the version you want from the fpt site given by ~graffiti in the "Trying to download Adobe Reader but can't"...

  • FreeHand 11 Colors picker error on launch in Snow Leopard

    I hava new 27 inch imac running Snow leopard 10.6.2. I got FreeHand 11 running great for the last two weeks. I always got an error on launch saying " Colors picker error. " Invalid color file. I click OK and it worked anyways. Today FreeHand launches and then quits when I click OK on the error. I reinstalled freeHand with no luck. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Reinstalling FreeHand does not overwrite the Preferences or Settings files with new copies. If the problem is a corrupt file in that folder, you will have to remove it.
    I suggest you make a backup copy of your Settings folder and then delete the original folder. FH will write a new Settings folder when it launches. If the problem is in the settings folder, then FH will launch.
    The Setting folder is here:
    Users/[Username]/Library/Application Support/ Macromedia/ FreeHand MX/ 11/ English/ Settings
    Were you using ColorSync profiles as part of your color management settings? A corrupt ICC color profile could be causing the problem. Have you created any new profiles or installed software that adds profiles? If you search your hard drive for .icc with 'System Files are included', you'll see where .icc files are stored.

  • Flash 9 Add-on error with IE

    Hello,
    We are currently trying to find out why our application
    (written in AS 2.0) is causing Microsoft Internet Explorer to crash
    with an add-on error (Flash9.ocx).
    It doesn't matter what version of Flash player 9 we use.
    9.0.16.0 - 9.0.47.0, we still get random crashes in our
    application.
    Our application frequently opens new browser windows to act
    as pop-ups for the various work screens (this was originally
    developed pre-flex and it's too late to change it).
    We pass data between parent windows and child windows via
    dynamically set Flash vars and using the LocalConnection. We also
    use the LocalConnection to pass data back from the child windows to
    the parent window.
    As a result, we have found that the garbage collector is not
    running. When the CPU usage is very high, the Garbage Collection
    may be delayed in order to give priority to other more vital
    processes (like screen drawing). Please refer to the CS3
    documentation regarding tips when using AS 2.0. We have removed all
    pertinent listeners when destroying objects so that is probably not
    the cause at this point.
    What I want to know is:
    Could high CPU usage prevent GC from running at all?
    Could high CPU usage when opening a new browser window as
    described above cause the MIE add-on error?
    We are looking for any help or advice regarding this issue.
    Adobe's Asia Pacific support has been about as helpful as a
    lead life jacket....
    Thanks for any help you can give.

    I have had the same problem when using MSN games
    site,specifically Texas Holdem Poker. It seems random. I cannot see
    any action that precedes every crash of IE6.I have followed all the
    troubleshooting and re-installation instructions,including
    increasing the browser cache size.,that are on this site.

  • I get nothing but error messages, -"Your IMAP server wants to alert you to the following: 113 that mail is not available" or 364? there are hundreds stacked up.You must give answers to how to fix these when we do "search" add the error code number

    I get nothing but error messages, -
    "Your IMAP server wants to alert you to the following: 113 that mail is not available"  or  the same with:  364?
    Now there are hundreds stacked up on my desktop.
    I cannot find the answer anywhere. You need to  give answers to how to fix these errors because when I  "search" "error code" or the number there is NOTHING. NOTHING!  Yet you give us these stupid error codes
    then you do not give us ANYTHING on how to fix these. These error codes make me so mad it makes me hate outlook, and hate the developers and hate microsoft.  How in the world can you give us ERROR codes without the explanation of what
    to do or how to fix it. You need to  add each  error code number in your "search" then explain what it is and how to fix it.  I am not a tech. I am a lawyer. I have googled the entire string of error code and nothing is clear.
    So, for the last several years, I get these error codes. Also, there is another error code that won't go away--it is the password error code that asks if I want to store the password. Yes, so I say YES. but it pops back. I am sick of this. This is the reason
    I hate Microsoft and I love google. #1 they respond to error, #2 them try to fix them you do not. I paid the full price to buy the OUtlook 2010, almost $500 just to get outlook, and all I got was error codes. I could not even open it because all I would get
    was that error codes and NO ONE knew how to fix them. WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM that you cannot fix the stupid error codes that you imbed? PLEASE HELP

    Hi,
    I understand how frustrated you are when facing such an issue, maybe I can provide some suggestions on the problem.
    Based on the description, you should be using an IMAP account setup in Outlook. As for the error message, usually it's caused by a corrupted message on the Server. I suggest you logon the Webmail site, check if sending/receiving emails works well.
    If you find any unusual emails that cannot be read or sent, try deleting them to try again.
    I also suggest you create a new profile to setup the IMAP account:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918/en-us
    Contact your Email Service Provider to get the correct and latest account settings, since you have been using Outlook for years, some settings may have been changed while you haven't been informed.
    For the steps to setup an account in Outlook 2010, please refer to:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/outlook-help/add-or-remove-an-email-account-HA010354414.aspx
    I hope this helps.

    The java code is as follows:
    SimpleSerial.java
    import java.io.*;
    //import java.lang.*;
    //import java.lang.ClassNotFoundException;
    Interface class for SimpleSerial.
    If you don't know what an interface is, don't worry. An interface defines the functions
    that can be called by implementors of this class. Currently there are two implementors,
    SimpleSerialNative, and SimpleSerialJava. There might be more in the future.
    SimpleSerialNative requires the file "SimpleSerialNative.dll" to be in the same folder as your Java
    project file. It's that simple.
    SimpleSerialJava requires the correct installation of Sun's Javacomm communication package. It's much
    more powerful, but it can be tricky for the newcomer to configure, and use.
    If you have problems with one, why don't you try the other.
    A VERY SIMPLE IMPLEMENTATION:
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    SimpleSerial ss; // delcare the SimpleSerial object
    ss = new SimpleSerialNative(2); // The argument is the commport number. There is no Comm0.
    ss.writeByte((byte)'a'); // write a byte to the serial port
    // Give the PIC chip time to digest the byte to make sure it's ready for the next byte.
    try { Thread.sleep(1); } catch (InterruptedException e) {}
    ss.writeByte((byte)'!'); // write another byte to the serial port
    String inputString = ss.readString(); // read any string from the serial port
    System.out.println("I read the string: " + inputString);
    A few important things to note:
    1. When you write data to the serial port, it just writes the data, whether or not the PIC chip is
    ready to receive data. There's no handshaking or signaling. If you send data and the PIC chip
    isn't ready for it, it will be ignored. Some PIC chips have a hardware UART which will buffer a
    few bytes of data for later retrieval. But this isn't a cure-all. If the buffer fills up, it
    creates an error condition which prevents further data from being read. You need to include
    custom PIC code to reset the error flag.
    2 In contrast to the PIC chip, the computer has a rather large hardware buffer. If the PIC chip
    sends serial data to your computer when you're not around to read it, it gets stored.
    3. If you make a call to readByte(), and there's no data to be read, readByte() waits until there
    is data. If you want to know how much data (if any) is available, make a call to available().
    4. Conversely, if you make a call to readBytes() or readString() and there's no data to be read,
    readBytes() returns a byte array of zero length, and readString() returns and empty string.
    5. If you want to use Sun's JavaComm package instead of this code, subsitute your calls to
    new SimpleSerialNative(2);
    with
    new SImpleSerialJava(2);
    public interface SimpleSerial {
    // These are copied right out of WINBASE.H
    // Most applications should be fine with the defaults.
    public static final int NOPARITY = 0;
    public static final int ODDPARITY = 1;
    public static final int EVENPARITY = 2;
    public static final int MARKPARITY = 3;
    public static final int SPACEPARITY = 4;
    public static final int ONESTOPBIT = 0;
    public static final int ONE5STOPBITS = 1;
    public static final int TWOSTOPBITS = 2;
    Returns the number of bytes available at the time of this call.
    It's possible there are more bytes by the time readByte() or
    readBytes() is executed. But there will never be fewer.
    public int available();
    public void waitForData(int n);
    public boolean writeString(String string);
    returns TRUE if port is fully operationsal
    returns FALSE if there is a problem with the port
    public boolean isValid();
    Be sure to close your serial port when done. Note that port is
    automatically closed on exit if you don't close it yourself
    public void close();
    Reads a single byte from the input stream.
    Return value will be from -128 to 127 (inclusive)
    If no data at serial port, waits in routine for data to arrive.
    Use available() to check how much data is available.
    If error, returns 256.
    public int readByte();
    Reads all the bytes in the serial port.
    If no bytes availble, returns array with zero elements.
    Never waits for data to arrive
    public byte[] readBytes();
    Reads bytes from serial port and converts to a text string.
    DO NOT use this routine to read data. Char->Byte converstion
    does strange things when the values are negative. For non-
    text values, use readBytes() above
    public String readString();
    Writes a single byte to the serial port.
    This writes the data, whether the PIC is ready to receive or not.
    Be careful not to overwhelm the PIC chip with data.
    On pics without a hardware UART, the data will be ignored.
    On pics with a hardware UART, overflowing will loose data AND require
    the UART on the PIC to be reset. You can reset the UART in PIC code,
    or manually turn the PIC off and then on.
    NOTE: A byte has a value in the range of -128 to 127
    NOTE: If you want to write a character, you need to cast it to a byte,
    for example: simpleSerial.writeByte((char)'b');
    public boolean writeByte(byte val);
    For more advanced use. Gets the input stream associated with serial port
    public InputStream getInputStream();
    For more advanced use. Gets the output stream associated with serial port
    public OutputStream getOutputStream();
    Please help I am the beginner in web start.Please

    Notes:
    1) Please use the code tags when posting code or JNLP/HTML. It helps to retain indentation and avoids asterisks and plus sings being interpreted as formatting marks. To do that, select the code/JNLP etc. and click the CODE button seen on the Plain Text tab of the message posting form.
    2) That launch file is invalid. You might check it (and the project in general) using JaNeLA.
    3) The only place that SimpleSerial class could be, that the JRE would find, is in the root of aeon.jar. Is it actually there?

  • How to add an error message to script?

    Hi, every one
    I got this script
    function paste in place to next master
    I want to add an error message to it, if there was no such thing as master B, C,D,E,F,G
    instead of system error.
    Teetan
    var
      myDialog = app.dialogs.add({name:"Copy Selected item(s) to chosen Master",canCancel:true}),
      mStringList = ["Master A", "Master B","Master C", "Master D", "Master E","Master F", "Master G"];
    with(myDialog){
      with(dialogColumns.add()){
      staticTexts.add({staticLabel:"Select a Master you want to copy to"});
      with(dialogRows.add()){
      var mySelection = dropdowns.add({stringList:mStringList, selectedIndex:0});
    app.doScript('main()', ScriptLanguage.JAVASCRIPT, undefined, UndoModes.FAST_ENTIRE_SCRIPT, "Paste in place");
    function main(){
      if (!app.documents.length || !app.selection.length)
      alert( "Nothing selected!" );
      exit();
      if (myDialog.show() == true)
      copy_to_next_master();
    function copy_to_next_master() {
    var
      mChoice = mySelection.selectedIndex,
      mMsg = "Done.\rWhat you select is pasted in place to next documents - " + mStringList[mChoice],
      nSel = app.selection.length,
      mDone = false,
      i,n,nextDoc,curSel;
    for ( i = 1; i < app.documents.length; i++) {
      nextDoc = app.documents[i];
      targetMaster = nextDoc.masterSpreads[mChoice];
      if (!targetMaster.isValid) {
      mMsg += "\rCan't detect " + mStringList[mChoice] + " in a doc: " + nextDoc.name;
      continue;
      mDone = true;
      for ( n = 0; n < nSel; n++ ) {
      curSel = app.selection[n];
      curSel.duplicate( nextDoc.masterSpreads[mChoice] );
    mDone ? alert(mMsg) : alert("Nothing copied");

    Sorry Jarek
    I made a big mistake
    I want add an error message in to this:
    var curSel = app.selection[0];
    for ( var i = 1; i < app.documents.length; i++) {
        var nextDoc = app.documents[i];
        if (!curSel) { alert( "Nothing selected!" ); exit(); }
        curSel.duplicate( nextDoc.masterSpreads[1] );
    in case of I just want to paste in place to only on choice
    Teetan
