AX in WDS mode, slow Safari browsing!

To anyone with good ideas,
I have my G5PM connected (eth) to my AX in WDS mode. It works . But, browsing through Safari is sluggish. What do I mean by sluggish?.?. Well, before any page is loaded the browser pauses for approximately 3 seconds. This wait time varies between 2 to 5 seconds before any page opens. This occurs even after connecting to a namespace an browsing through that namespace (ex. apple.com to apple.com/trailers).
My download speeds are normal. File transfers and iChat video conferences occur at broadband speeds. I just wanted to ping others before taking any network sniffs.
Any ideas are welcome,
-Grant

Hi JusWannaGroove,
Do you have Private Browsing turned on in Safari?
Safari>click on Safari in the top Menu bar>deselect Private Browsing if selected
or
It might be you have only 802.11b wireless selected for your Airport Express.
Airport Express Admin Utility>Select your Airport>Select Configure>at the bottom of window you should see a drop down menu with 802.11b or 802.11b/g or 802.11g>I would suggest to have both b/g selected>click Apply Now.
Hope this helps...

  • WDS mode slows network

    Problem:
I have two original Airport Express that are set up in WDS mode. Recently the network slowed down to a crawl. When I unplugged the remote WDS express the unit resumed normal speed.
I hard reset remote WDS back to factory default hoping that would clear up the issue. Airport Utility failed to bridge the two express units twice in auto mode so I did it manually. Once all was back up the network still slowed down when the remote WDS configured express was plugged in.
    Question:
Is there something I'm doing wrong in set up to cause this error (why can't I set up in auto "hand holding" mode for example)
    or
Is the unit set up as the WDS remote just defective?
Another odd thing is that Airpor Utility reports the unit's serial number as gibberish -- leading me to thing this unit is burnt.
    Any ideas appreciated.

You may have a couple of issues on your network.
Normally, when things work OK and then the wireless slows down, that is an indication that you may be picking up interference from another nearby wireless network, a cordless phone (if you have them, or at the neighbors) or even a wireless security system that has been installed nearby.
The usual thing to try is to change the channel on your main router to see if you have find a settings with more clear airspace around you. You may need to experiment to find the best channel.
If you reset the AirPort Express back to factory defaults and you see a corrupted serial number, try the reset again.
Power down the Express for at least 15-20 minutes
Hold in the reset button and keep holding the reset button in as you plug the Express back in to power
Keep holding the reset button in until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly.
Try the setup again. If you still see corrupted settings, that may be an indication that your device will need to be replaced.
Finally, you should understand that WDS imposes a tremendous bandwidth loss penalty on the wireless network. The first "relay" or "remote" cuts the bandwidth on the entire network in half. The second cuts the remaining bandwidth in half again.
So, bottom line with two WDS devices, your network is down to only 25% of its original bandwidth. Might be OK for general web browsing but any demanding things like video streaming or copying large files over the network are going to be very slow at best.

  • Fix for slow safari browsing speeds

I am experiencing very slow browsing speeds with Safari after upgrading my Macbook with 4G memory to 10.8.2. Other programs seem to to lagging as well.   What can I do to manage my open programs to speed things up?  Other ideas?

A number of people reported that Safari was running
very slow for them on Windows. I was someone who was
also seeing the same behavior. Web pages that would
open up in 2 seconds under IE7 could take literally
minutes to fully draw in Safari.
Your mileage may vary, but this really did work for
me. Nothing else I had tried (clearing the cache,
    re-installing, etc.) made a difference...but this
did. Not sure why it's not affecting everyone, but
this doesn't seem to have any negative side effects.
IE7 is still working fine for me with the
    "Automatically Detect" box unchecked.
Please, report this bug to Radar: http://bugreport.apple.com It's important to notice Apple developers about this issue

  • Safari browser running slow!

Hi, I know this seems to be a common problem, but my iMac Safari browser has been running increasingly slowly for the last few months, when I first try to launch a new webpage it can take up to 20-30 seconds to load up. I appear to up to date with my Apple software (using OS X Lion 10.7.5) and other aspects of the iMac seem fine. What should I do to try and speed Safari up?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them.
    1. Have you restarted your router and broadband modem since you first noticed the problem? If the answer is no, do that now and see whether there's any change.
    2. Are any other web browsers installed, and are they also slow?
    3. What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
    4. Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they also slow?
    5. If you can test Safari on another network, is it slow there too?
    6. If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Safari browser seems to slow down when working with my wifi ASUS AC 68U router

safari browser seems to slow down when working with my wifi ASUS AC 68U router - any ideas on why?

Is your problem with Safari on the iPad, or some MacBook Air?
Are you sure that the ASUS firmware is tested with the device having trouble and its operating system?
Note: MacBook Airs do not run iOS.  They run Mac OS X, Windows or Linux.

    Try these basic troubleshooting steps.
Quit all apps completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Or .... Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
For Safari ..... Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Full Screen Mode in IPAD Safari Browser

    Good Afternoon,
Is there anyway to put the IPAD Safari Browser into a full screen mode ?  In Internet Explorer pressing the F11 key does this.
    Thanks,
    Bob

On the iPad tapping the Safari icon in the Dock should automatically have Safari pages load full screen.
If you are referring to the Safari for Mac, you need a third party add on.

  • Safari extensions slowing down browser

    Hi!
Lately, I've noticed a degradation of performance and speed in my Safari browser after installing a few extensions, but I just love my new extensions too much to remove them.
Safari 5 is great! It works speedily and powerfully and pulled me towards it away from Chrome and Firefox. However, lately, the lag and, the crashing and the poorer performance all together are really irritating me to the limits. Its strange how I am not one of those who completely redesign the browser with so many extensions. I'm actually far from that. I only have about four tweaks installed and I hate the behaviour I'm experiencing these days.
All Im asking is for a short-term fix to this error and, over time, a look into this by Apple for a permanent bandage to this glitch. I'm very sure they'll do this better than the rest very soon and am just waiting anxiously for results.

Deleting Safari caches like recommended will not help. Bad code of specific apps are the reason. Try this: deactivate ALL extension. Stop the time for the complete run of *SunSpider JavaScript Benchmark* http://www2.webkit.org/perf/sunspider/sunspider.html (MyMacbookPro Core2Duo 2.33Ghz, Safari_5.0.2: 18sec) and the note the result of the test (MyMacBookPro: 328,5ms +/- 0.7%. During the run monitor the CPU usage (MyMacBook: both Core are quite equally used, CPU-load floats from one to the other and back but never only one used and never more than approx. 80% of the possible 200%). Than switch on your first Extension (one after one and never two at the same time), Run SunSpider and monitor like recommended. Bad coded Extensions like AdBlock do influence run-through time of Sunspider like **** (MyMacbook with only AdBlock Extension activated: 1min34sec - compared against the 18sec without Adblock: 522% slower!!!!) and CPU-load (MyMacBook with AdBlock: 100%, one Core totally blocked - no more floating around between both Cores. The SunSpider results stay bretty pretty much the same (MyMacBookPro with AdBlock: 348,5ms +/- 13.4%). Bad Safari Extensions do extend the loading time of Java-Code dramatically (by over 500%) and do chance unfavorably the CPU-Load during the execution of the JAVA-Code. With other words: Bad coded Extensions are a bottleneck to push Java-Code from the Web to Safaris hyper-fast Java-Engine. As a result I did go back to the old standalone and SIMBL-based versions of AdBlock and ClickToFlash.

  • Slow and freezing safari browser

My safari browser is slow (MacBook Pro 10.6.8). I often have to shut down my computer because it freezes with the spinning color wheel. Sometimes the browser will not be slow when I switch to the chrome browser, but sometimes it is. I may have a logic board problem so I am wondering if that could have anything to do with my slow browser. When I click on Software Update, it shows no software updates (for safari). What could be causing this?

    Hey okaren,
I have an article here for you that has some helpful tips for resolving this issue:

  • My Safari browser not loading...why won't software update detect network connection?

I am using Foxfire browser, and glad I did at least download such...even though Foxfire updates are not recognized by my Lion system.  This unnerves me a bit since I'd be dead in the water...and my Foxfire is getting more outdated by the day.
My Safari browser comes up...but then does not load...remains blank.
I tried doing a Software Update...but my system is not finding network connection.  When I did the diagnostic, my system DID recognize my wifi connection and as good.
What should I do...?  Would like my Safari back, but more important I suppose is getting my software updates...
    thanks
my system is Lion OS X  10.7.2

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • How to permanently disable this message: "Press Esc to exit full screen." (by Adobe Flash Player) in Mac's Safari Browser?

    Hello everyone,
I have been searching for sometime (without any success) for a solution to permanently remove this annoying message: "Press Esc to exit full screen."
Whenever I go to full screen mode, watching any video on YouTube, BBC, CNN (or many other websites which use Adobe Flash Player for streaming video) I have to bare seeing this message for several seconds until it fades away. Seeing this message once or twice would have been okay, but as we all watch many videos on a daily basis on internet, after weeks, months and now years seeing this message over and over again many times every day, it becomes very annoying, and I find myself rewinding many videos to their beginning after this message fades away to be able to watch it from the beginning without anything obstructing it!
Does anyone know how to "permanently" disable this message from appearing?
I am using the latest version of Safari 6.0 on the latest version of OS X (Mountain Lion 10.8.1), and have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player (Plug-in version 11.4.402.265) installed on my new MacBook Pro 15" with Retina Display.
    Thanks,
    Ally

    Thanks Carolyn,
I am attaching a screenshot here for you to see that this setting was already set to what you suggested. I didn't need to change it as it was like this even before I post this message.
So the problem still presists and unfortunately your suggestion is not a solution to this probelm.
Last night I did more reseach and found a discussion in Adobe website, it seems a lot of other people have the same issue, and even started a discussion in Adobe website about it. But unfortunately Adobe refuses to address it and enable the end user at least to have an option to turn this message off from displaying permanently on his/her computer.
I am writing down the url links for the two posts regarding this issue on Adobe's website:
    Link #1: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/921270
    Link #2: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3058752
Hopefully more people will get involved and ultimately we will either get Adobe's attention, or someone will find a "hack" and post it here for all of us. I have found some suggested "hacks" for Windows environment (you can simply google it, I am sure you will find them too). But so far I haven't seen anything for Mac's Safari browser.
    Cheers,
    Ally

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).

  • I recently thought I was updating my Safari browser. When completed, I put all those little files that were on the desktop into the trash. Now my trash is saying it can't be emptied because there are locked files and I don't know how to unlock them

I recently thought I was updating my Safari browser. When completed, I put all those little files that were on the desktop into the trash. Now my trash is saying it can't be emptied because there are locked files and I don't know how to unlock them or get them out of my trash and they keep multiplying. And to make matters worse, I tried renaming them as pdf files thinking that might do the trick.

oh boy ! I'd ask you if you knew what kind of files they were or where they came from, but I don't think you could help me a bunch. Try going to the Utilities folder and running Disk Utilities.  If you want to empty the Trash and it won't empty, go to the finder and choose "secure Empty trash". Worse case scenario-you may have to reinstall Snow Leopard, but I don't know what else to suggest. If you have a DVD of Snow Leopard, boot up from that,  and reinstall the OS. This will not touch the stuff you have on your Hard Drive, then you can update from 10.6 to 10.6.8, otherwise Onyx? Maybe those files are part of the OS which needs them to keep running.  if you hold down the Shift key on reboot, you can reboot in Safe mode and maybe you can take the files out of the trash that way
    good luck
