AX - modem problems

Hi, In the past few days I did nothing but search the forums for any solutions.. But I am at the end of my knowledge .. 8 I am a simple user...) I have UPC fibernet, I got a router/modem from the provider. I have asked them to switch of the router function, so I could use the AX ( 2nd generation )as a base station, and I have extended the range with a 2nd one ( original router was not enough ), and OSX Maverick. Now my problem is , that after several hours I have to restart the modem, then there is a wifi connection, but no internet. If I use only the lan cable, there is not prob with the internet connection at all .. I have checked, DHCP or NAT no bridge function, I have checked the channels... Has anyone any idea?

Update: It is enough if e restart the AX, then the internet connection is back, temporary......But this morning I had to do the restart 5 times ..

  • A30 Modem Problem - Does it work with XP SP2 ?

HAS ANYONE GOT AN A30 (P4 3Ghz) INTERNAL MODEM WORKING WITH XP-SP2 ?
I've recently upgraded the hard disk in my A30 and installed XP SP2 and all the latest Windows updates and found most of the latest working drivers, but the last thing I'm trying to get to work is the modem driver.
Device mangler says the Toshiba Software Modem is installed - i.e. no driver / hardware conflicts etc - but if I try to query the modem from device mangler it cannot communicate and complains of a hardware conflict.
Similarly if I try to use any comms programs to get to the modem they complain 'unable to open COM3 - insufficient resources'
I've tried un-install & re-install different drivers from UK & Canada tosh support sites. The UK ones don't work at all, the Canada ones give the above symptoms.
The UK drivers worked with XP SP1, so my guess is there is a driver issue with XP SP2 - any one else tried it ?

Hi NA-A30-1, have you been able to find a driver yet to work with A30 and XP SP2 or resolve your modem problem otherwise?
I have a very similar problem. After a reinstall on a new hard disk and SP2, I still can't get the modem drivers recognised...
When I run the Modem Driver Installation program it runs for about 5 minutes and then closes as if everything could be ok. When I go to Device Manager, there is still a yellow question mark next to Modems (says "PCI Modem" with a yello question mark sign)...
I tried to search for the inf file, everywhere I could think of but until now, nothing seems to be recognised as the correct driver for this modem...
It would be extremely helpful if someone who has made progress can explain how they got around this problem.
    Thank you.

I find IBM laptops rather difficult to update. I have worked on a few computers in my day, but never IBM until now, and the learning curve is hell. I have a floppy drive but can't get the laptop to allow the spsdib54 file to open. I get a remove media message and then hit any key to continue. I'm lost here.and theIBM instructions are no help
MODEM Problem. I am trying to use AOL dialup. I install 2000, and can test my modem on both machines. I install AOL with no problems. Both laptops will dial out and get the correct Phone numbers. When I let AOL use smart connect and try to proceed, I loose all modem activity, and can't get it back even with the Modem upgrade which I have done. ....help

    I. Create a System Program Service Diskette:
Download spsdib54.exe (TP 600E: spsdih47.exe or spsdin36.exe - find out here) to your desktop.
Insert a high density floppy disk into the diskette drive.
Double-click the downloaded exe and follow the instructions on the screen.
II. Follow the "Installation Instructions" in spsdib54.txt to update the BIOS:
    Installation Instructions
Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update
                  the system program.
                - If your computer is attached to any kinds of Docking station
or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it
                  before proceeding.
                - Make sure the SPSD diskette is write protected.
    1.  Print these instructions or display on another computer.
    2.  Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
    3.  Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive
         and turn on the computer.

  • Hi,I am unsure if I have a safari or modem problem. It only happens when I use my macbook pro, my HP windows is fine. Internet crashes on modem and then a message that safari is not connected. I don't know where to start sorry I am not technical at all.

Hi there, my internet is crashing everytime I use my macbook pro/safari it happens roughly every 2 mins, it can happen on any website.
I am not technical at all and I am at a total loss of where to start with this. I did a bit of research on the internet but no luck in finding any
    help.
Basically I am not sure if it is a modem of safari problem. I have no problems when using my HP on without windows explorer on the internet.
I am working wireless ADSL 2 - Bigpond - 2 Wire 2701 HGV-W and a macbook pro purchased around 5 months ago. Since the purchase date
I have had problems with internet.
Safari brings up a page you are not connected to the internet. I then look at the modem and DSL and internet lights are both flickering and or/off.
They then re-set themselves. I then have to re-set preferences on safari and quit and restart.
I have also tried using with cable into mac and modem and no difference.
I can only figure that maybe Safari is not compatible with the modem? could this be the case?
Thanks for reading and any assistance would be appreciated.

There's an Apple help page on the DNS problem - at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408
The first thing to try is changing your DNS settings - and for that you need to open System Preferences, then the
    Network section.
In Network - click  on Advanced - then the DNS tab
under DNS servers - use the + button to enter two extra lines
    either these, from google dns
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4
    or from OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
then click OK & then 'Apply'
You would need to do that seperately for the Cable (Ethernet) settings and Wireless (Airport)

  • AX + PC + MacBook + Cable Modem = Problems

    Hey...
So after reading all the comments on the Airport Express product page about "ten minute installs" I thought to myself "Ten minutes to install an Apple product? What were you doing, making sandwiches at the same time?"
Two hours later, I can't get my AX working properly. Great.
    My setup:
Desktop PC running WindowsXP to Motorola SB4200 cable modem --> Ethernet cable from modem to Airport Express --> MacBook with 10.4.9 connecting to Airport Express for wireless internet.
I'm not at all trying to use AirTunes...
At any rate, I got things up and running last night just by plugging things in and running the setup assistant. Solid green light, strong signal, almost instantaneous web surfing.
Then I noticed I couldn't send emails on the MacBook -- could receive them, no problem, but could not send them.
Shortly after, I also noticed that the internet connection on my desktop PC went dead. This is while I'm simultaneously surfing with the MacBook with no issues, so I know the modem is working fine, but somewhere there's an issue with how the two, my MacBook and PC, are sharing the cable modem and I couldn't begin to guess how to solve it.
However, in my attempts to remedy the issues, I did:
    1) Reboot both Mac and PC
    2) Disconnect power from the cable modem briefly, then reconnect it
    3) "Reboot" the cable modem, using the blue button ontop
    4) Remove network security on the AX
    5) Hard reset the AX unit
Any help would be greatly appreciated -- thanks!
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   WindowsXP PC, Motorola SB4200 Surfboard Cabl Modem, ethernet cable

OK. So I called up my ISP and they let me know something that didn't seem intuitive: I can't have both ethernet and USB connected to this cablemodem without instead a proper router dividing tasks up. The SMTP problems seem like they could be solved once I get a proper router sorted out.

  • Using 3230 as a modem--problem!

Hi guys.. A help is needed here...
I am using my 3230 as a gsm modem, to receive messages in an application in java.
But the problem is that only the messages saved under "Sim messages" in the phone are available to read from 3230. So i can work around this if i can enable all incoming messages to be saved in my SIM memory directly.
Can any one help me out doing that ?

  • Connecting a modem, problem solving PPPOA

    Hi everyone,
I've purchased the Airport Extreme (dual) and I've also got a new Broadband Package on the way due to my last ISP being a failure!
The ISP is PPPOA, as was my last one, and as far as I can see the Airport Extreme has no support for this. Only PPPOE.
I also have a Netgear DG834G, which I was planning to use as a modem, but since the airport can't support PPPOA, that's out of the window, right?
    1. Will using the Airport as a bridge and connecting to it cause any problems (speed decreases etc) with the internet?
    2. Is is best if I purchase a Vigor 120 which will provide a PPPOA to PPPOE bridge, therefore solving the problem? Or is this not needed and will provide no advantage?
Any ideas welcome, got a few days to get it solved!
    Thanks,
    Ste.

The ISP is PPPOA, as was my last one, and as far as I can see the Airport Extreme has no support for this. Only PPPOE.
That is correct. The AirPorts do not support PPPoA to provide user credentials to the ISP. You would require another device: modem, another router, or your computer that support PPPoA to provide these.
I also have a Netgear DG834G, which I was planning to use as a modem, but since the airport can't support PPPOA, that's out of the window, right?
Not necessarily. You could connect the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) directly to one of the Netgear's LAN ports with the AEBS configured as a bridge. This would allow the Netgear to provide both NAT & DHCP services for the entire network.
    1. Will using the Airport as a bridge and connecting to it cause any problems (speed decreases etc) with the internet?
No, as a bridge, the AEBS would become a "passive" device.

  • 6288 E65 Modem problems

    Hello
I have managed to get both phones installed onto the PC. PC Suite recognises they are connected via data cable but will not recognise them as a modem. This used to work fine on an older version of PC suite so maybe a downgrade. Im at work at the moment but will be able to give details in 24 hours.
If anyone has any ideas in the mean time please let me know. Thank you

I had this problem too, trying to connect via Infrared. Fiddling around I got it to work by going in the Connectivity folder on the phone (where the infrared application is) and clicking the Modem application. This comes up with Connect via infrared and the option to connect - when I clicked this the connection went through straight away.
Don't know if that will work with Bluetooth though.
    Hope that helps.

  • Airport or ISP/Modem problem?

    Hello,
I bought my Airport Express 802.11n base station about a month ago, and since then I have gone through a lot of customer service hotlines (Apple and ISP) trying to figure out what is/are causing my problems. The problems are (In order of most irritating):
-Airport loses connection every few hours, and stays green. When I reset it, it turns amber and reverts to its default IP. Meanwhile, my modem (A motorola Surfboard sb5100) has a blinking green light under the "internet" label.
-The connection speed is usually about 1 MBps. I have cable (Roadrunner) and I understand it should be faster than this.
-Some of the computers in the house (Mainly pc's running vista) have trouble connecting to the network, despite the fact that it detects the network and displays full bars.
    Other info:
We are in an apartment with 5 laptops: 3 pc's and 2 macs.
I've called the cable company about 3 times, and run through their diagnostics. We got a new modem, which didn't really help, and then a cable guy came to our house and switched the connections on the coax cables coming into our house. This seemed to help, but then a day later the disconnection problem returned. I called Apple twice and they ran their own diagnostic which only remedied the problem temporarily. I don't want to have to run a power cycle ever 5-10 hours. The internet speed is manageable, but I'd prefer a quicker connection if possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been dealing with this since I got the router, and it's really getting on my nerves.
    Thanks

The symptoms you describe scream "weak signal" from your cable company. Measuring the signal and analyzing the modem's logs will confirm this diagnosis. Toss the ball back in their court.

  • AE with Zyxel DSL (660RU) modem problems

    Hello!
I've recently bought an AE and got a Zyxel 660RU modem and have tried to set up a wireless network. I have managed to connect to the internet using the airport but the connection isn't good and seems to stall after a few minutes use. It is not a problem with distance as the signal is full. I was hoping to use the airport express to share the internet connection between my desktop G5 and a PC portable.
I am wondering if the data transfer stalls because the Zyxel DSL is a modem and not a router. I am no expert in Internet connection so i am not sure.
If it is that, would it be possible to connect a router in between the modem and the airport express? Would that improve things? Or would i have to get a DSL router?
Please help as i've looked on all the forum and can't seem to get a clear answer!
    G5 1.8 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Zyxel 660 RU, Airport Express

The information on Zyxel's web site indicates that the P-660 is a gateway.....a combination modem and router in one box.
In order to use the AirPort Extreme with the Zyxel gateway, the AirPort Extreme will need to be connected with an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on the Zyxel to the WAN port on the AirPort Extreme and the Extreme will need to be configured in Bridge Mode to operate correctly.
The AirPort Extreme will be able to provide a wireless network when it is in Bridge Mode, but the Guest Network feature cannot be enabled in this type of setup.

  • EMac - Modem problem ?

I am using dial-up internet access with the Emac internal modem....when my modem is plugged in, and I am NOT connected to the internet, my home phone cannot receive incoming calls. This happens even when the eMac is switched off. I have tried connecting my wifes Vaio to the same cable and there is no problem.
However I can still connect to the internet....what is happening here ?
    Emac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Mike-F,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I've seen similar behavior from a TDD device partially shorting the phone line and separately from a bad phone cord attached to a computer. If the phones work normally when the Vaio is connected to the cable, that suggests the problem is with the eMac's modem putting too much of a current drain on the phone line even when it's not connected. I'd replace the phone line anyway (phone cords are cheap to replace and prone to kink and partially fray inside anyway). A phone line noise filter placed between the eMac and the wall outlet may help too and is also a fairly cheap thing to try.
You can also try booting to Apple Hardware Test (AHT) and seeing what it reports about the modem. Depending on which Mac model you have (you may want to add CPU speed to your profile), AHT will be either a separate CD or a bootable partition on your OS X Install or Restore DVD, in which case you can select it using Startup Manager.

  • Linksys router + comcast modem problems

Ever since my parents upgraded to digital voice with comast we got this huge modem. Before, my computers connected wirelessly never had a problem. But now, every single day, every single thing I connected to the my router looses connection (Xbox 360, PC, ipod touch). The only way, it seems, I can fix it is if I go to the router settings and "Release" then "renew" the DHCP then I power cycle my router and modem. After I do that, everythings fine for about a day then I have to do the whole thing over again. Anyone have a solution to my problem

Whats the model number of your Router?  As comcast has replaced your modem, what i would suggest you is connect the modem directly to the computer and observe the connection , if you face the same problem then it might be your Modem. If it works fine for a day, then i think you need to upgrade the firmware of your router which you can download from the Linksys website.
Go to website www.linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in search tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

    Hi All,
I want to ask some help with this one. I have a pc (vista) wireless connected to the WRT160 router. This router is connected to my ADSL-connection with a Zyxel modem. Everything by the book. Unfortunatly I can't get on the internet. If I connect my pc directly with this modem with a LAN-connection I can go on the internet. It seems that the router doesn't 'talk' with the modem and therefor I can't get on the internet. Can someone help me with this problem?

  • Modem Problem Caused By Verizon Technician

Hi.  I'm having a annoying problem.  We had a outage 2 days ago.  And I couldn't get my modem to sign in.  So I called Verizon.  Big mistake.  And wanted to see if they could help.  I usually use my great Actiontec modem.  But for Verizon help, I hooked the old Westell 327W modem up.  And he couldn't get my internet back.  But he sure messed up my password in the PPP Connection Profile area.  He took my original password I used to login to Verizon.  And gave me a temporally password so the outside person could fix the outage.  He told me to leave that password which is "{edited for privacy}".  And that is not my login password.  But now it must be a permanent password I'm stuck with.  It's the only password the modem will use.  But when I get to the website I get to use my real password.  I want to use my real password at the modem website too.  Please can somebody tell me how to get rid of this permanent password the tech guy put on my modem configuration.  This is soooo frustrating.  Here is a screen shot of the problem.  Thank you.

First always ask to speak to an english speaking person, Its a huge difference. I have had service people coming to my house after a rain I loose internet and my phone sounds like popcorn, they keep saying the box on the pole needs to be replaced but they cant do it.Been going on for 2 years. And then i get an email saying its all fixed.Even though there was nothing fixed. Good thing im not paying for fios. There are government agencys that eat this stuff. Like is there a clss action for non service? At the moment.

  • USB Modem problems on old iMac

*I was reffered here from another subforum, so this is actually cross-posted. Sorry... *
I'm trying to help my dad install a new modem on his tray-loading tangerine iMac. This was my first computer, and she's still doing well except for the modem being taken out by lightning, for the second time. The first external modem he used was the Supra Express USB modem, and it remains in the network list. I've asked him, but there doesn't seem to be a way to delete the previous modem config--all the options are grayed out.
The error he keeps getting is "communication device does not exist." He's installed the Smart One 56K USB External Data Fax Modem for Mac (56USBPMAC). It's supposed to be compatible. He's configured the modem with his ISP info and selected the modem script from the scripts list from the Network Prefs, but he still get this error (it's the same as the one he got before installing).
Anyone know what could be the problem?
    His info:

    RAM 96k

    Hi Jessica
This is from memory so I may get things wrong.
In the network pane you should get the option to select the order in which the coms devices are chosen. Usually you just drag the one you want to the top of the list and that's that.
I'm not sure if it works with modems as I haven't dealt with one in over a year now!
