AX resets wireless connection to "require a certificate"

I've established connection but, apparently, the Airport Utility resets my wireless network to require a certificate and can't "validate identity" something my Linksys wireless is not set up to do. Is there a Utility setting that does not require or force the certificate? The connection goes on and off, much more off than on apparently looking for the certificate

kilometro, Welcome to the discussion area!
There is nothing on Apple's base stations that cause such a prompt. What is the AirPort Express (AX) connected to?

  • Wireless Connection Sometimes Requires A Reboot To Work

I have had this going on for about two months. My wireless connection will work fine for a while and then suddenly slow down and eventually drop out completely. A reboot is the only thing that brings it back, but the cycle always starts over again. I've posted a few logs here, but if there is something more someone needs please let me know. The Arch system is the only device on my network that is experiencing this issue. I've also tried adding options ath9k nohwcrypt=1 to /etc/modprobe.d/ath9k.conf. I thought this had worked until today when I booted up and eventually had the same issue. I am running the x86_x64 variant of Arch with kernel  3.18.4-1-ARCH #1. The position of all my equipment remains unchanged so I'm guessing either the card is dying or I have a bug. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

  • WRT160Nv3 Wireless connection usually requires reset

Hello all, thanks for such a wealth of useful info in other threads, but none deal with my problem.
Generally, I've been very pleased with this router, it worked well for a week or two, but now I can't connect my laptop without resetting it, and I'm back to using a wire which is annoying having bought a fast wireless router. I have had this router for under a month. I do not want to use network magic.
    So far I've tried:
    Using just my modem - no problem;
using wired connections - no problem
my old router - fine for wires
pointing my browser at 192.168.1.1 - I don't know username or password as I've never used it before
restarting both cable modem and wrt160n - no effect; sometimes works wirelessly for a while then breaks.
Please let me know if you can help. I'm going to return this router in the next week if I can't get this sorted.
    Thanks again,
     -Sam

I would suggest you to adjust the wireless settings on the router...The router's default password is "admin" in lower case. However as you do not remember the router's password, you have to reset the router for 30 seconds, power cycle the router and reconfigure the router from scratch.
On the setup page,Under the Wireless tab,Change the SSID to some unique name,Change the Channel Width to 20MHz only and Channel to 11 and click on save settings...Under the Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 >>Click on "Save Settings"... Under the Security tab..Uncheck "Filter Anonymous Internet Requests" and click on save settings..
Power cycle the router and check..

  • Secure Wireless Connection

I have been thinking about getting the iPhone ever since it came out and I guess I was wondering if anyone could answer whether or not it can connect to secure wireless connections that require a password. I am a college student and we have wireless throughout campus but it requires my student id and password to be typed in if it were used on a computer. Thanks for any information.

I have the same problem. I can easily access wireless networks everywhere except at work (a college also). Our system requires both a user name and password. Laptops easily access the network but I can't log on with my iphone. It is a real bummer because our campus has thick old brick buildings and edge will not penetrate them meaning that I am dead in the water without wireless. BTW network wireless at the college is the only thing that I don't have working flawlessly on the iphone. I had two of out best IT guys mess with my iphone for a couple of hours and they said that unless apple gives a fix that allow for both a user name and pass work when logging in that they can't help me. ANYONE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE?

  • No connection on wireless ISP because of digital certificates

I have Mac OSX 10.4.7 on my 12" PowerBook and use Airimba Wireless, a Wi-Fi ISP that serves several college communities around the country, and had no problem with their connection or service until a couple days ago when I used my university's wireless connection then went back to my apartment and tried to use the Airimba service. I found that I could connect and get an IP address, but wasnt able to view any other websites or log into their service. Furthermore, I am able to connect fine using WinXP on VirtualPC when it is set up to use virtual switch networking. Ive been back and forth with tech support and they are convinced that it is a certificate problem. They are telling me to clear their certificates out of my browser/system. However, I am having trouble finding a certificate from their service to remove so that we could try to reinstall it (I looked in my kechain access and couldnt find any certificates). To make the problem even stranger, It seem that AIM can connect fine, but Safari and Firefox arent able to connect to the internet. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks in advance for your help.

Limited or No connectivity message might be caused by the following:
The connection wasn't authenticated by the network. The wireless security settings on the router may have changed.
Solution: Reconfigure your wireless security settings both on the router and PC. Try changing the SSID and disabling wireless security (e.g. WEP, WPA).
    Router may have locked-up
Solution: Reboot the router. If a reboot doesn't help, you may need to reset the router (30 seconds) and reconfigure it.
The computer may be connecting to a different SSID.
Solution: Verify your router's SSID. If it's still set to the default (linksys), be sure to change it.
Problem with the computer or with your wireless adapter.
Solution: Use other wireless computers. You can also update / reinstall the drivers for your wireless adapter.

I have a MacBook Air, which I just upgraded to OSX Lion. I also have the latest version of iTunes. When I try to stream to the AirPort, the Airport resets, and the wireless connection on the macbook locks up. Any suggestions where to start?

To free up hard drive space the best bet is to move data files that you don't need access to all the time. Likely candidates are music, video, and photos. Things like word processing and spreadsheet files can also be moved but they tend not to be very large and so don't free up much space. The problem with moving the above mentioned files is that iTunes and iPhoto need to know where the files are stored.
Here's an article explaining how to move the iTunes folder. You can move the iPhoto library using the Finder but there is a slight complication. Start iPhoto, open the Preferences and click on the Advanced tab. The first option is "Copy items to the iPhoto Library". If this option is checked, copy the iPhoto library to your external folder (drag it from the Pictures folder to your external drive) and then delete it from your Picture folder. If this option is not checked, it is a bit more complicated and we'll need to talk a bit.

  • Does airplay require wireless connection?

does airplay require wireless connection to internet?

For one, it doesn't need any connection to the internet. It's a local streaming protocol that works over your LAN. No internet required.
As for the wireless component, no. It'll work over a wired or wireless LAN.

  • Certificate based wireless connection

    Hi
I work for a Government as a Technician and we are in a Novell environment. We have a Wireless network which is setup using Wifi Certificates on the Laptops. It has been working fine with this setup until windows 8 came out. Then some things didn't work
properly but it could still connect.
Now I have windows 8.1 laptops that we just procured and the wireless certificate setup doesn't work at all. I can install the certificates and configure the wireless connection but it just doesn't connect. I notice that when I install the certificate I
had 2 options, Local User and Local Computer. I played around with different options but it didn't work.
Is there any specific way I need to setup the certificate based connection or has anyone been able to connect using certificates? We are in the process of upgrading our systems and this will be a big problem if it doesn't work.
    Thanking you in advance.
    Mthuthu (South Africa)
PS: We have the same problem with the windows 8 phones.

    Hi,
Firstly, please try to use network troubleshooter to diagnose this problem.
    Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting
Secondly, if this problem actually caused by Certificates problem, please refer to the link below to install Certificate for test.

  • Deskjet 3050 J610a - Unexpected wireless connection problem.

    Running:
    MacOSX 10.7.4
    HP Software: HP_Lion_Ink_SW_v12.13.17
Printer: Deskjet 3050 J610a had been working perfectly through wireless connection from a
MacBook5,1 Intel Core 2 Duo, while I had been using HP Software HP_Installer_DJF4100_v9.7.1, that was *not* meant for this printer, but I could 'ADD" the printer Deskjet 3050 via System Preferences, through HP Socket,
Looking [unwisely] for a more "functional"  configuration, I looked up HP support and found that a specific software had been released for computers running "Lion".
So I uninstalled the previous DJF4100 software, restarted the computer, and installed the new software and drivers for Lion as indicated above.
Now the printer Deskjet 3050 J610a shows up in the computer's network under 'Devices"  as
"HPJ610a.047DED", Network Type:Computer-to-Computer. It is also detected with "
Security:None", whereas my whole home Wi-Fi network is encrypted with WPA/WPA2 Personal.
I could of course regress to the previous software and configuration, but before doing that I would like to understand why this new software that has been released by HP for Mac computers running Lion is behaving in such a way, why the printer shows as a stand alone device (which it never did before).
As I said, before I regress to the previous configuration, using a software that originally is not the one required by the printer, neither by the computer's operating system, I welcome all information and suggestions.
    I need that wireless connection!
    Thanks in advance.

  • New problem with wireless connection since 27th No...

Main desktop computer (windows xp) is connected directly to the internet via ethernet cable to BTHub3. No problem exists with this  connection.
We have previously had no problem connecting Tablet, laptop, and internet radio via wireless connection to our Hub. Problems now exist with wireless connection to all of these devices:-
    - When attempting to use any of the devices wirelessly, we are unable to obtain a connection to our Network (shown on the list of those available) - indicates -  "out of range" or "obtaining IP address" or "authenticating" or "network disabled - poor connection"
    - On occasions, the devices DO show that they are connected wirelessly but are unable to access the internet or use any programmes requiring an internet connection. Messages indicate - "no internet connection" or "connection timed out - retry" or "cannot access this webpage", even when we are in the same room as, and only a few feet away from the Hub.
    - One anomaly has occurred in that the internet radio did connect and function normally on 2 occasions recently , for a duration of a couple of hours, before loosing the connection. However, during this time, the other devices still refused to connect.
Measures we have undertaken to try to resolve the problem are :-
    - We have visited the "Wireless troubleshooting" part of the BT Helpdesk on several occasions, but had already tried the measures suggested here, including changing channels and hub reset.
    - We have spoken at length to the BT tech. helpline who have been unable to resolve the problem.
    - We have emailed BT Help and received a reply from India suggesting all the things that we have already tried (ie. a "stock answer").
    - We are not confident enough to access the Hub Manager as we feel feel this is beyond our capability.
We would be most grateful if someone could help us.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Wingman2, the first thing I would do is uninstall BTDesktop Help if you have it installed. It can cause more problems than it solves.
I would also suggest that the first thing to try is a factory reset of the homehub by pressing a pin into the recess button on the rear for about 20 seconds.
After you have done a reset if you still have problems, download, install and run inSSider. It will show you the wireless channels and which one your Homehub is on. You want to find the channel with the least congestion, ie. least number of users. Once you have that you need to change your homehub onto that channel.
See link for insider. Use the free version.
    http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/
See link how to change channel on homehub
    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14094
After that if you are still having problems you could try setting the home hub to b/g only instead of b/g/n. If one of your devices is not "n" capable it could help.

  • WRT160N - my wireless connection trashed after wife suspends her notebook

My wife's Dell notebook recently died so she replaced it with a Macbook Pro running Win7.  Prior to her new notebook, everything worked great.
But since she's gotten it, whenever she closes (suspends) her notebook, my wireless connection gets trashed for a minute or two.  It doesn't actually drop me from the network, but I get massive latency, DNS lookups stalling/failing, etc.  It's enough to disconnect me from any online game or service that I'm using that requires a steady internet connection.
I'm running the latest firmware on my router and newest drivers I could find for both my laptop (Intel 5300 AGN) and hers (Broadcom 802.11n adapter).  I've done a full hardware reset of my router and re-set-up my wireless network (WPA2-Personal security), and it still happens.  This is 100% consistent, and while it appears to be specific to her new computer, it feels like the router is the one that's failing here.
We're both about 9 feet from the router itself.   This does not happen if I hardwire my laptop to the router, so it's specific to the wireless connection.
I can't seem to find any other instances of this happening searching around the internet.  Anyone ever heard of anything like this before? Any idea of anything I could change to try to fix it

Open the router setup page and reduce the MTU to 1350 and click on save settings..Under the Wireless tab,Click on Advanced Wireless SettingsChange the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...Now,power cycle the router and check.

  • Wireless connection drops on iPhone4

My wireless connection at home drops frequently on my iPhone4.  It will not allow me to reconnect.  The connection is not being dropped on any of my computers attached to the wireless connection, so my carrier believes it is a problem on the iPhone.  I have tried removing the internet connection and then resetting it, including the password required.  This does not help.  The only way I am able to restore the connection is to unplug and reset my wireless modem.  I am then able to restore the connection, but then I am dropped again after a short while.  Anyone out there with similar problem or with a solution?

Does your wireless indicator on your iPhone show a strong connection? A lot of things could play in to what's going on (the router you are using...other devices in your household affecting the wireless signal, etc). Does this only happen with your home wifi connection or do you experience the same thing no matter where you use wifi? If it's only at home then I doubt it's the phone alone. If you can repeat the same issue regardless of where you use wifi then you might want to contact tech support or go to a local store where they can try troubleshooting. I personally don't have any issues with my iPhone 4 losing wifi connection in my home or elsewhere. The usual things will be first suggested: reset/restart/restore your iPhone to see if that helps.

  • Broadband/internet and wireless connection problem...

Towards the end of 2101 I received an email informing me that BT would be upgrading my local line and I could expect a much improved service. Whether this 'upgrade' has been the cause of my problems or is merely coincidental I cannot say. Prior to my experience since this time I could count lost broadband in hours per year (I never had internet or wireless connection problems).
Since the end of 2010 I now regularly lose my broadband completely every six to eight weeks. 'Home Hub cannot connect to broadband.' There is a worsening loss of speed? over a period of two to four days at the end of which I need to phone BT three/four/five, etc. times until they manage to locate the problem and fix it. It is always some problem they find on the line or with their equipment.
I always mention that this is an ongoing problem. Never do they take any action to escalate the issue.
This week things have become considerably worse.
I have started to lose my internet connection now. 'Safari cannot connect to the internet'.
There are now two issues which arise concurrently.
I phoned BT, finally the operative in India (through a very poor BT wireless phone connection) changed the channel of my router for me. He mentioned something about changing the address and password. This seriously exacerbated the situation. My password is not recognised now when I am asked to reconnect by selecting a network.
The next occasion on which I lost my INTERNET connection and tried to reconnect I got the message 'Airport has the self-assigned IP address (...........) and is unable to connect to the internet.
I phoned BT to report this and was told that this indicated an adapter problem and the problem was now out of BT's hands. I Should contact Apple.
I did so. Apple said I should contact BT to change channels. I explained this had caused the problem and they were now refusing to assist me. Apple tried everything that they could think of to resolve the issue (despite not being required to do so). Eventually the only suggestion they could make as BT had refused to help was to reinstall my operating system. Extremely drastic. But I can now connect wirelessly again.
Service is still intermittent requiring constant restarts to regain connections.
BT's response to a formal complaint was more of the usual banal questions, the usual tests, the usual promises of 'something would be done'.
Their systems are not set up to make any sort of accurate diagnosis of customers' issues. They seem to have a set number of 'fixes' into which they try to fit all problems - one would assume simply to save costs - their cost saving exercises are now costing me money.
    That's all for starters.
    Any suggestions?

I have a similar problem, since BT "upgraded my broardband" my home hub looses internet connection at least twice a day and I have to power reset it. the broadband shows as connected but the internet connection is lost, if I try reconnecting it fails and only a power resetr will work. I have a temp solution by fitting a time switch to the mains adaptor and reseting it at 0200 each day. but before the upgrade the home hub had worked for years and no problems. i have also replaced the origonal home hub 1 with a home hub 2 to see if that improves the situation.
