Axiom 25 as a control surface for Logic?

Hi there,
I recently purchased the Axiom 25 in hopes of using it as a control surface in addition to its MIDI capabilities. I have downloaded the Enigma library from M-Audio's website and have tried, to no avail, to assign the transport keys. Can anyone explain the process of using Enigma to assign keys on the Axiom, and what must be set-up, if anything, in Logic for the two to interact...
Thanks in advance, you guys are great.
jon

Hi there!
I have a 49, and while I don't use it as a control surface per-say, I did setup the transport keys so I can quickly start and stop things without worry. You don't need the M-Audio software. (As an aside I try to install as little extraneous software as possible.)
Here's what you do:
Preferences -> Key Commands
Open up the Global Commands section with the drop arrow.
Then highlight (read click) on the parameter you want (play, stop, etc.) and then click "Learn MIDI" and hit the button you want to use on the Axiom 25.
That should about do it. Worked for me! If I missed something or it's not working reply here and I'll take a look.

Just in case you buy one (and you should), I put a tutorial
on how to set it up with Logic. The manual is not really
clear on everything. Just go here
    http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=16210#16210
It should get you up and running.
P.S. the BCF also does let you control Plugin
parameters along with 32 presets you can customize
    it to your workflow.

  • Using Yamaha AW2400 as control surface for Logic Pro 9

I am a freelance pro sound engineer currently working as tech support for a local school. They have a Yamaha AW2400 in their studio, something which I have never come across before despite using numerous Yammy desks. They also have a Mac running Lion and Logic Pro 9.
What I want to do is use the desk as a control surface for Logic and record direct to the Mac if possible. I have installed the Yamaha USB-MIDI drivers on the Mac and had the desk running as a device for file transfer (via the USB connection) but everything else is beyond my knowledge of the desk and Logic.
I am a Pro Tools guy so Logic is a bit new to me but I know how to setup a new control surface. and the basic operations.
What I need help with is...
    - what control surface to use as there is no preset on the desk for a AW2400
    - what port settings to use on Logic
    - what TX and RX settings to use on the AW2400
    - what Remote Out settings to use on the AW2400
    - any other info I may need
Thanks in advance, hope some can help.

See page 204 of the AW2400 User Guide...

Note: the User Guide says that only LP7 is supported but you never know.. it may work with LP9... Test and see..

  • Control Surface for Logic

Hi all, I've just started working with a new music system consisting of a Mac Pro Quad Core, MOTU 828mk3 and Logic Pro 9 and so far everything is running smoothly. Now I would like to add an affordable (around £150) control surface to the setup and am looking into Frontier's Alphatrack, Korg's Nanokontrol and Novation's Remote Zero SL. The Alphatrack is my favourite as it's small and within my budget but I've read that it doesn't work so well with Logic? Any experiences?
The Novation seems the most reliable and easy to use but will take more space on my already crowded desk, and it's more expensive...Price is the biggest advantage of the Korg but is it any good?
I would be very grateful for suggestions, many thanks in advance, Beene

I didnt have good results with the Novation SL and Logic 9. I would recommend better the faderport...

  • Control surface for Logic Pro

    Hi There
Any ideas- what is the best control surface to use with Logic Pro?I would like a controller with at least 16 or 24 individaul faders.
Does the Mackie X Bus emulate a controller for Logic Pro?
    thank you
    G4 1.25 gig   Mac OS X (10.3.8)   G4,

I'm using a Mackie Control Universal and absolutely love it. The integration with Logic is top-notch. It would be nice to add an Extender and have 16 faders, but I'm finding that for what I do 8 faders at a time is plenty.
The X Bus has a Mackie Control layer that gives you the same amount of control. I believe the MCU's buttons are all displayed up on the X Bus screens. I'm sure you can find out more in the owners manual: http://www.mackie.com/products/digitalxbus/pdfs/X200OM_Ver1_04.pdf
    Good luck!

  • What is a good control surface for Logic X

Hello All I am thnking about purchasing logic X in the future and wanted to hear opinions on good control surfaces in the $3,000 range. Hit me up with your opinions.

I heard there were gliches with the Tascam 4800. That is what I originally planned on getting, but it seems that it is increasingly more difficult to find an outlet that is selling that mixer. I suppose this means a newer version is about to be introduced.

  • Digidesign Command 8 control surface with Logic?

Does anyone have any experience getting a Command 8 to function as a control surface for Logic Pro 7? I'm really having trouble finding any information on it and I could really use some help. I'd appreciate any input or suggestions. Thanks,
    -Jeff

Although it may have a standalone mode, it's not emulating any particular controller, such as the Logic Control or Mackie HUI protocols. It may send MIDI control messages that Logic can pick up (my Trigger Finger can do that as well). However, unless Logic sees the right ID from the Command 8 (whether in native or emulation mode), it won't recognize it as a control surface and send messages back and forth with it, thus not being able to take advantage of things like the display and motorized faders.
It looks like the Command 8 and the ProjectMix I/O look rather similar (yes, I know that Digidesign and M-Audio are owned by the same parent company).

  • Low cost Mackie control surface for FCP 6?

Could someone recommend an inexpensive control surface for FCP 6? Perhaps a bit more expensive than the Berhinger but cheaper than the Tascam.

I've had nothing but grief since installing the FW-1082 and sure could use some help when you return. Here is my current situation (copied from my post on the TASCAM forum which yielded zero responses):
I know the instructions say that the FW-1082 should be plugged directly into the computer interface and that nothing should be plugged into it. Unfortunately my Intel iMac only has one FW400 and one FW800 port. There are other FW400 peripherals such as HDD's and camcorder video capture. With only one FW400 port, it means either I plug the FW-1082 directly into the computer and then connect the FW400 hub to the second FW-1082 port, or plug the hub directly into the computer and the FW-1082 into it. Which ever approach I use, it results in very unstable operation. Sometimes the 'Firewire' LED never lights. Other times the FW-1082 keeps reseting itself every few seconds. Unfortunately I no longer have the option of returning it, so I must find some way to use it with my existing hardware.
I just installed V1.06 of the Mac drivers and 'Fix for Mac OSX 10.4.10 FireWire' from the TASCAM website, restarted the computer, and now the Firewire LED on the FW-1082 never lights. The 'fix' mentioned above rolls back the extension 'AppleFWAudio' to V2.0.1. to resolve a problem with the OSX 10.4.10 update. Unfortunately, I don't know how to restore it to its previous state. Help!
(I apologize for posting this in the FCP forum, but this is the only place I've been able to find fellow FW-1082 users.)

  • Can any one recommend a good mixer/control surface for Soundtrack pro?

    Hey,
Can any one recommend a good mixer/control surface for Soundtrack pro? I was looking at the Mackie Universal Pro, does anyone have any experience with that or any others?

I have to put in another vote for OWC and against ANYTHING else. I bought a Western Digital MyBook Studio Mac Edition several years ago and it did not play well with my old G-series minitower nor the Intel iMac that replaced it last year. The drive was noisy, would cause sleep issues, lock up, overheat and, when allegedly working, dragged down performance.
I had to leave it turned off most of the time and do TM backups when I remembered--not good.
Recently I grew sufficiently browned off at the device to rip out the perfectly good WD SATA drive inside it and order an OWC Mercury Elite Pro enclosure with FireWire 800, USB 2 and eSATA ports. The old drive required only minutes to install in the OWC and has behaved perfectly since. No lockups, overheating, and the same drive is actually quieter in the new enclosure than the old.
WD makes fine hard drives but their enclosures are not very friendly, even those sold as "Mac Editions."
EDIT: forgot one point. If you have a desktop Mac, don't get a "mobile" or "portable" drive that has no source of power other than the computer. If you MUST use USB, it's possible to have dropouts if the USB bus gets overwhelmed while the drive is connected. Go with a desktop dirve with a separate power supply if you can. If you must go with a USB portable drive lacking its own power supply, also buy a powered USB hub. That usualy provides portable drives with enough power to stay with the program when used at home.

  • Control surfaces with Logic?

Have a Macbook pro & looking to get Logic. Previously was running Cubase with a Yamaha O1v deck & it worked great with Cubase. Sold all that & looking to get a more compact project studio going ... what control surfaces integrate well with Logic?

The Yamaha O1v had a fader mapping setup that worked really really well with Cubase. You simply selected the O1v from a drop down menu in Cubase and all the faders and EQ settings automatically mapped to the board. Only a few boards were listed in the Cubase menu.
Curious if there are certain boards might be listed in a similar feature in Logic.
(Planning on jumping on the Logic train at the same time as picking up a board...)

  • Can I use a VS-700C control surface with Logic Pro?

    Hi,
Does anybody know if I can use a Roland VS-700C control surface and/or VS-700R audio interface with Logic Pro?

If it supports the Makie protocol, it might work... but I wouldn't purchase one on that basis without trying it first.

  • Here is A Fix for Axiom Pro control surface on Logic 9 on OSX10.10.2

here's a fix 4 problems mapping Axiom Pro to Logic 9: paste these drivers into Applications/ Logic ...right click...choose Contents/Midi plugins folder:
    Axiom Pro.bundle
    Axiom.bundle
If this cut and paste is non-functional ( after I click 'post')...you'll find them on the M-Audio support site...but be sure to select this newer pair of files they created on : 13/09/2011
it will probably work all the way down to osx 10.7 and maybe 10.6.8 too.
    have a nice day.

That is not for Apple to fix, check with M-Audio.

  • Control surfaces with Logic Express

    hello all
Im new to MAc , completely new having been PC since the year dot...Having used Cubase since atari days I have a Steinberg Houston Controller surface. Anyone know if it is possible to use it with Logic Express before I spend £150 on the programe please??

    Hi,
nope, the surface wouldn't work natively on a Mac. You can only use it's MIDI features and remap the controls to functions in Logic. As long as the interface sends MIDI, this will work, but there won't be any access to the special features i guess. Guess why? Steinberg wouldn't want to provide a driver for another DAW than Cubase. Sneaky little ones they are...
But you can try to sell it through ebay.

  • Setting Up Roland A-Pro Control surfaces with Logic

I have struggled with Logic Pro 8.0.3 and a new Roland A-500Pro midi keyboard which was reputed to be "easy to configure with a Mac".
Despite many discussions with a Roland help person (he tried very hard), The A-Pro control maps provided just don't work at all. Buttons to select tracks actually play sounds. I have both set up according to the Roland instructions (no good) and according to this forum post (https://discussions.apple.com/message/17034355#17034355) which suggest you don't even need to use the Roland interface.
Anybody have an envrionment that works?? or can suggest ways to configure.
