Axiom 25 Mk II + Garageband 10.0.1?

Can anyone clue me in on how to configure garageband 10.0.1 and my Axiom 25 Mk II so that I can control effects, e.g.: cutoff, filter, pulse, delay, etc. using keyboard controller knobs? Any input is greatly appreciated.

hoping from the diagnostic logs someone more mac familiar than I can direct me in a fix for this?

  • Axiom 25 with GarageBand

Does anyone know how to map the axiom 25 with garageband? Specifically i would like to create my own loops (or even use the one in GB) and then assign hem to the 8 pads so that I can start and stop them at will. I downloaded the direct link software from the M-audio site but it doesnt seem to have helped at all. Thanks for your help.

If you create a software track, as Hangtime suggested, say, the default piano, and play on your axiom, do you see the meters lighting up on the left of the piano track? If you do, at least you know that Garageband is seeing your axiom. If you are seeing the meters light up and also hearing the sound, you're in business. The next step would be to click open the info pane on the right, and select any other software instrument your heart desires.
If you are seeing the meters light up on the piano track but not hearing anything, that would be another problem to troubleshoot, but at least you know GB is seeing your controller.

  • How do I access NI's Komplete instruments like FM8, etc in Garageband?

Hello. I have a 2007 15-inch MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.6.3, a LaCie Rugged external hard drive connected via FireWire on which I keep many Native Instruments VSTs such as FM8, B4 and Abysyth, and an M-Audio Axiom Pro 61-key keyboard controller.
I'm just learning to use Garageband, but couldn't figure out how to get Garageband to launch Native Instruments' Komplete instruments like Absynth, FM8, B4, etc. in much the same way as Logic or Ableton Live is supposed to be able to do. As I looked through the Garageband user manual, I don't see anything about accessing software instruments like FM8 or anything that isn't already included in Garageband.
After getting frustrated with that, I remembered that M-Audio included a copy of Live Lite 7 with my keyboard controller, which I downloaded to my MacBook Pro hard drive. Upon launch, Ableton told me there was a newer version, Live Lite 8.
When I first downloaded Live Lite I tried to get it to look for my Native Instruments VSTs so I could access them in Live Lite. I believe that process worked but I never had the chance to even do one project in Live Lite.
More recently I decided to move my Native Instruments VSTs from one LaCie hard drive that had my iPhoto Library and iTunes Library on it, to a separate LaCie rugged hard drive that would only hold my Native Instruments VSTs, any new songs I recorded, etc. This process seemed to work out.
Today I tried to launch Live Lite in order to record a song with FM8. I also wanted to try out a Duet audio interface I received last week. Unfortunately when I opened Live Lite, I got that Apple "spinning beach ball" and the program froze right away, while it was saying it was "scanning for 'custom' VSTs." I tried several times to open Live Lite but to no avail. I am disappointed that I cannot use the program at all.
Is it because of the fact that I moved the Native Instruments from one hard drive to another? Is there possibly something wrong with NI instruments like Absynth, FM8, B4 and others? One other soft synth I recently downloaded and wanted to include in Live Lite was Sonic Charge's Synplant, but I deleted it when I grew concerned that a VST was causing Live Lite to freeze. I also tried to download Live Lite's latest version again from the Internet and replace the previously downloaded version, but it was still hanging.
I do know that the VSTs like FM8 are located in the Library folder, but I was not sure if that fact was causing Ableton to look for the VSTs in the wrong place.
So in summary, I would really like to work in Garageband (and eventually Logic Studio when I can buy it) and have complete access to instruments like FM8, Absynth, etc., including all the parameters and effects. But I can't seem to launch those instruments in Garageband. Failing that, I'd love to do the same thing in Ableton, but that program won't even launch. (That's probably a separate problem and requires questions for a different forum.)
Any help you could give me would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Out of curiosity, why are you installing VST's over AU's?
Assuming you have installed your FM8 etc an an AU plugin, in GarageBand you need to create a new software track. Then click the Edit tab in the Track info pane on the right side of GB's User interface. At the top of the list you will see the 'Sound Generator.' Click the Name - top option to reveal your Audio Unit Module list. Your 3rd party AU's including FM8 will be listed there. Click it and it will be loaded the the new sound generator. Then click the picture icon to the left to reveal the User Interface for your chosen AU.
I run Live 8 fine. All of the AU's I use in GB can be used in Live.

  • Want to record ext. synth/voice as tracks in GarageBand 3/Controller Q's?

I want to record sound from my microKORG into GarageBand 3. I purchased a cable with the right connectors (which unfortunately I can't even find now, but when I do) to go from the output of the microKORG to the input on the mac Mini, but I was never able to hear any sound when recording it.
I AM able to use the microKORG synth as a controller for GB 3 using an M-Audio Uno USB cord, but have a MIDI keyboard with larger/more piano keys (though the first key is broken) I plan to use for playing instruments in GB instead if not playing sound into a track from the microKorg.
Also since I can't find the connection cables yet- or even if I do- should I use my Griffin iMic with cables coming out of the microKORG into the RCA cables in the Griffin iMic, hooked up via USB (does the iMic even have a preamp in it? Basically, will it sound better anyway to use the iMic until I purchase an input device/GB controller like Apogee's Duet? And, if I get a mic, can I use it for recording vocals?) Should I get an old iControl (I heard it had a MIDI input, which I can use for my microKORG since I only have 1 free USB input on my Mac Mini, as I have a USB ext, HD- by the way, can I save all my GB audio files- or even the whole GB application- onto my ext. HD, I've learned you can move your iTunes Library to one? Just how useful WAS the iControl, and will it work with the new GB 5 in iLife '09?) or just wait till I can get the Apogee Duet (I hear it's a superior Firewire controller with great sound and built-in presets for GB and Logic, though it's $500) but I'm a bit confused as to how the Apogee can supposedly control GB so well with just 1 knob that I guess is turnable and clickable?
Finally, as a choice for a new keyboard controller, I know you can't control many functions in GB via a MIDI controller, but since I could possibly also use it to control the microKORG's sounds and play normal-sized piano keys, as well as maybe using it with other software, would you recommend I get the M-Audio Oxygen 61-key controller with lots of MIDI assignable buttons (or move up to the even more MIDI programmable Axiom 61 key, which I can get for $230), or just go down to the Keystation 61 ES, with semi-weighted keys (I can get both the Oxygen and the Keystation at around $140 at jr.com). Or if I want to give up some MIDI control for a full keyboard (though I may NOT want to, since I plan to learn other programs like Live and Reason, which I suppose could benefit from the Oxygen's extensive MIDI control- can anyone confirm this?), if I AM willing to give up as many controller functions for the use of a full-sized keyboard, should I go with the Keystation 88 ES, which may be my best bet, as I found one used at $129, if I use the iControl and/or Apogee Duet eventually for a controller, I just don't know how well it can control my microKORG- would I still have to use it for programming/instrument changes and the keystattion 88 es just for playing the instruments? I know I have a ton of questions here, and would appreciate any help anyone can offer- what I need to do first is see if I can use the iMic to record my microKORG into GB 3, and continue using it even after I find my cables that go directly into the computer from it?

No, the iMic has Left and Right stereo RCA inputs, that's the whole point, ...
Then you must have a very special model - all the ones I know have 1/8" inputs:
But anyway - it doesn't make a lot of sense to pick your hardware equipment according to the cables you have. An adaptor from RCA to mini-jack or vice versa costs a single digit dollar amount. Why don't you just get your gear connected and then come back with precise questions? It's not a very good idea to poor out all the questions you ever had about recording in one post and expect concise answers.

  • Cannot get knobs to work on MIDI controller in garageband

Hi all. I recently purchased the axiom 25 2nd generation with the intent of using it with garageband. I have the 2013 macbook pro retina running OS X 10.9 Mavericks with the newest version of garageband installed. The keys and pads work fine and I was able to get the controls to function with garageremote but the knobs and master volume still do not work. Is there any way to fix this?

On the M Audio website it says that the newest mac driver is for OS 10.7.4

COMPLETE iMac virgin here. I have a feeling I'll be consulting online a lot. First off, what is the best keyboard to get for GarageBand? I want to take advantage of the lessons program and want an idea of what the spectrum is as far as price and flexibility.

If you're looking for good bang for the buck, I highly recommend M-Audio. they make great controller keyboards that are reasonably priced and work well with GB. As poflynn said, the more you're a keyboardist, the more you'll appreciate a better physical keyboard - one with semi-weighted or fully weighted keys.
Something like the Axiom has semi-weighted keys, the keystation pro has fully weighted ones.
If you're using the keyboard mainly to access GB sounds, it's less important that it includes its own sounds (like a synth would) - it's only an empty vessel connected to the computer via MIDI (or directly via USB) to control virtual instruments inside the box.
    Here's their controllers:

  • Axiom 49 MIDI help!

    hey,
I have an M-Audio Axiom 49 MIDI keyboard/controller. I have it hooked up to my computer and use GarageBand for creating music. There are a bunch of assingable things like nobs and sliders. And I can't figure out how to assign things. I tried installing the driver software, but it said It didn't need to be installed. I would REALLY like for these features to work on the keyboard. Does anyone know what to do? Thanks!

Can I use the Enigma software to assign "all" of GBs faders to
    the keyboards rotary knobs?
I can't answer this for sure: my gut feeling is that it is doubtful. All I can do is tell you the control codes sent by the iControl: I have posted them here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/rfwilmut/notes/GBcontrol.html
However I can't tell you how to send these codes from the Axiom: and I can't guarantee that when you do send them they will have the desired effect. (Also there are one or two codes I am not sure of the CC number for.) It's possible that the codes only work when sent through the driver for the iControl (buried within GB).
My Evolution keyboard allows me to assign various parameters to the Modulation wheel - Pitch bend depth, for example - but I found that 64 (Sustenuto Pedal) caused that result rather than 'Record track 3' when I tried this: so I'm not sure whether these codes are any use.
If anyone has an Axiom (or indeed any other sophisticated keyboard) perhaps they could try some of these codes?

  • Using Axiom25 with Garageband?

I bought a M-Audio Axiom25 today and I cant seem to figure out how to make the controls work with Garageband. I know that it is supposed to be completely compatible with it but I cant even see the note input when I hit the keys. All I can do with it is play the virtual instruments, I can't do anything else with my controller.

Did you get a 1st Gen or 2nd gen Axiom? You can only use the 2nd gen's faders and knobs etc with GB by downloading and installing the Directlink plugin. However, according to this http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=products.directlink M-Audio document you can only use Directlink with GB 09.

  • Using vocalive with Garageband

I was wondering about how some of you are using Vocalive in conjunction with Garageband. The way I see it, here are the options.
    1. Export your song from garageband, then import it into Vocalive, do your vocals thenexport the final project. (this will require you to purchase the in-app 8 track audio mixer for $14.99)
    2. Use two ipads (very expensive method but you may have 2 in your household, I do) and sing through Vocalive on 1 and plug into second ipad (I'm using irig).
    3. Is there and easier way just using one ipad?

  • M-audio axiom midi controller

just wondering if anyone out there can walk me through a couple things re: learning the axiom midi controller. works great with garage band but there are some things i'm having trouble figuring out.

GarageBand's control messages are non-standard (they would be, wouldn't they). These are the control messages you need to send for each transport function - the first is when the key is pressed, the second when it is released - possibly just the first would do.
All sent on Channel 1 (I think probably any channel would do):
    RECORD
    Controller 106 127
    Controller 106 0
    Controller 107 127
    Controller 107 0
    SKIP BACK
    Controller 108 127
    Controller 108 0
    PLAY
    Controller 109 127
    Controller 109 0
    SKIP FORWARD
    Controller 110 127
    Controller 110 0
    CYCLE
    Controller 111 127
    Controller 111 0
    JOG FORWARD
    Controller 24 1
    JOG BACKWARD
    Controller 24 127
The control messages for the channel level, pan, etc. are way non-standard - they use things like the breath control instructions - and I think that trying to use the Axiom to do mixing would be very difficult. The only controller that works well for all GB's functions is the iControl, designed specifically for it (but of course you still can't do automated mixing in any case, you can only do that by dragging the automation curves).

  • M-Audio Axiom 25 Keyboard Controller

I am thinking of buying this keyboard as M=Audio says it compatible with GB. However, some research shows that people are having problems making the drum keypads work as well as the rotary controllers. Is anyone familiar with this midi controller or can you recommend a product that will work well.

The Axiom series is not fully compatible with GB. The rotaries and transport buttons on the 25 as well as the sliders on the 49 & 61 will not work as GB has no customizable MIDI mapping options. The pads do work although I have never bothered to use mine and therefore look into programming the axioms pads with note numbers.
If you are wanting control over the sliders and rotaries with a keyboard all built in then its the M-Audio Oxygen series you want to look into.
I personally like my Axiom for most things. IMHO I think it is important to look beyond GarageBand when buying a MIDI controller as sooner or later you will more than likely look into other DAWs that are a bit more sophisticated and buying twice always hurts.
    All the best.

  • PLEASE HELP! How do i add new samples to garageband?!

I am using garageband and an M-Audio Axiom 61 Midi controllor. I recently purchased a sound library of drum kits from www.p5audio.com. Each sound comes as a .wav file. I was assured that they would be compatible with garageband and my controller. I've looked at various websites and links, such as
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/audio/garageband/garageband_samples.html
but none of them have worked.
I want to be able to control each individual sound from this new sound library just like I control the "Hip Hop Kit" or "Rock Kit" in garageband. I just can't figure out how to add them. Please, if there is any way you could help me that would be great. THANK YOU!!!

Strange. Usually there is some sort of install instructions, read me, .html file, etc.
If there are no install instructions:
Back up your downloaded files by option dragging the downloaded folder to a new location. This will make a copy of all the files. (This is in case the procedure below doesn't work and you lose your files somehow.)
For Garageband to see the exs file they need to be in the location I mention above. Drag them there.
For the wave files keep them in the same folders they are in (do not change the name) and move them into the second location I mention.
Open Garageband and see if the drum kit appears in your left window when you double click on a software instrument and select the drum kits category.

  • Recently I've been getting repeating static noise through USB connected devices in GarageBand

I've been using GarageBand for recording for the past year.  Only recently have I encountered an issue with the use of ANY usb connected device.  I'm using a Macbook Pro Retina 15" and the connected devices I've encountered the issue with are a Blue Snowball Mic, M-Audio Axiom 49 Midi Controller, and guitars plugged in via a Rocksmith Cable... pretty much any time I record through USB I get a repeating static noise approximately every 35 seconds that lasts for 2-3 seconds.  The noise is very prevalent and sounds very much like what cell signal noise sounds like.  I tested putting my iPhone into Airplane mode hoping that would solve the issue but to no avail.
I've been using this same exact setup for over a year and only in the last month has there been any problem like this.
Anyone else seeing this problem and does anyone know of a solution... it's pretty much rendered GarageBand useless for recording at this point for me.

Fixed my own problem... if anyone else has this issue and sees this all I had to do was update to ML 10.8.3 and it took care of what ever bug was in the system.

  • Axiom 25 Knob Assignments

I have been attempting to assign some knobs on my Axiom 25 to Logic controls as follows:
    Volume Controller 91
    Pan Controller 93
Channel EQ Lo Shelf Gain Controller 5
Channel EQ Peak 1 Gain Controller 10
I go through the Learn Mode process and turn it off. However, when I twirl the knobs after that only Peak 1 Gain always works. The others sometimes work and sometimes do not. All of the assignments are for the Selected Channel. I have tried this using both software instrument tracks and audio tracks. When I use software instrument tracks the knob that sends Controller 10 events will change Pan and another knob that sends Controller 7 events will change volume, even though these knobs have not been defined using Learn Mode. So it looks that that Logic is reserving the use of standard MIDI controllers, even though I cannot find any documentation on that. Can anyone tell me what is going on?

Unfortunately, that's how it works. Only the on-screen keys work with the internal arpeggiator.
If your keyboard has an onboard arpeggiator, that may work. For example, I use an Akai LPK25 external keyboard that has an arpeggiator that can be turned on or off. This works fine with Garageband.

  • Using MI4 with garageband

    Hi,
I was wondering if anybody has got MI4 working with GarageBand. I installed the Mi4 drivers and Garageband seems to recognize that as one of the inputs, but when i record something with Mi4 as the input and my guitar plugged into MI4 I get a very loud screeching sound and nothing else.
Has anybody tried to use MI4 as an interface for instruments?
