Axiom 25

I'm new in both logic and midi controls. Does anyone use any of the M-Audio AXIOM (25,49 or 61) midi-controllers with Logic Express 7 and if so what are some quick starter steps for assigning sounds to keys.

Just got an Axiom 61 two days ago and I have to say I'm not experiencing any latency problems whatsoever (plugged as midi or usb). Have you tried plugging in another keyboard just to check?
I do agree with everyone here that the control setup is less than obvious and the docs are dismal. This thread is actually the first place I found myself after trying to understand what was going on. You need to wrap your mind around a lot of midi concepts to take full advantage of its possibilities, but I've managed to get a lot of things to work within Logic. Now, this is for Logic Pro 7 and I've never used Express so things might work a little differently, but I figure this might give you trail to follow.
A couple of pointers:
- In Enigma, create a new preset bank. You'll get a bank containing 20 untitled and blank presets. Go back to the Axiom 49 defaults bank (or 61 in my case) and copy preset 17 called Use for Midi learn. Paste on your first preset and upload to your keyboard (using the Device menu or the large arrow on top). You've just sent a plain vanilla preset to your Axiom and you can now start working on the next step.
- To trigger key commands: in Logic Pro, open the key command window. type in "play" in the search field. Select the appropriate command and click the "Learn New Assignment" button at the bottom right of the window. Click the "play" button on your keyboard and you'll see data appear in the key commands assignment field. Your Axiom should now control playback. I'm not using MMC at all and it works fine.
Do this for any key command you wish to assign. I've got all the playback buttons working and use the "loop" key on the Axiom to trigger the key command "capture last take as recording".
I'm also able to control plug-ins and VIs but I'm not sure if this is possible in Express.
This is a really short and quick explanation but if it makes any sense to you guys I'll elaborate a bit more - it's really late and I need some sleep now
Hope this helps

• I bought the wrong controller.  Should I dump my RemoteSL for an Axiom Pro?

I didn't realize that the Novation RemoteSL doesn't support Logic's internal plugins. Plus, the controller implementation is so different going from Logic to Protools that I'm having a hard time getting used to it.
I realize that the Axiom Pro doesn't support Logic fully, but I'd rather have terrific Protools integration and so-so Logic integration than half-baked integration on both platforms.
Any opinions from RemoteSL or Axiom users out there?

Browsing M-Audio's website, I see that the Axiom Pro:
automatically maps the keyboard’s 65 controls to commonly accessed parameters in digital audio workstations including Pro Tools®, Cubase, Logic and Reason*, as well as software instruments.
I wonder if M-Audio has succeeded in doing what Novation finds so difficult, and found a way to map Logic's internal plugins to controls. I know that the (Emagic) Mackie Control , the Euphonix surface and the SmartAV Tango have managed to find a way. Maybe I should ask this question on the DUC.

• IMac 27" (2013) won't work with Axiom Memory

I purchased an iMac earlier this year from MacMall and although I intended to purchase my own memory, I fell victim to their "sweet deals" and opted for them to upgrade the memory. They replaced the stock 8gb memory with a 32gb kit.
I had problems as soon as it arrived and unfortunately delayed contacting them about support for it until I was past the 30 day warranty.
My original issue was that the computer recognized all 32gb but every hour or so it would randomly crash and reboot with no warning. I ran memory tests against the ram and it always came back saying it was working. I took the memory out and found they used the correct memory as far as the label shows and it is low voltage. I looked for solutions online and was unable to solve this issue. I contacted MacMall and of course they said to go to Apple or the manufacturer. I did find some others with the same issue but I figured by best bet was the manufacturer.
I reached out to Axiom and surprisingly their support is great and respond quickly. They immediately said they would ship out replacement memory. Which is great though it was pretty easy to get to this point so I assume they know of the issue. Once I received it I connected the 32gb they shipped out into the 4 banks on my iMac. It would not start up now. This is an even worse issue. I tried to use different slots and then I tried just two memory sticks in the top two slots which worked for the stock memory. No matter what I did it would not start up. I put the original memory back in and it worked fine.
I reached out to them and they sent another set. Itried this set and the same issue. It would not start up. I put my original memory back in and it starts fine and everything is working great.
Now my next steps are to wait for Axiom on another possible solution and to go to the Apple Store to see if they can test a different brand. When I originally spoke to someone at Apple they told me I should have purchased Crucial or Corsair. While I don't disagree I do not want to spend over $300 again for memory.
Anyone else have any ideas? I was thinking that perhaps there is a way to reset hardware with a command when trying to start your computer that is used to troubleshoot some issues but not sure if that could possibly be related here.

Well I went through the processes and wasted a ton of time. I have determined this iMac is just garbage. I ended up working with Axiom and they sent me three sets of memoryt replacements. All of them had the same result where once the RAM was installed, the iMac would not turn on. When I switched back to the original memory I noticed that it wouldn't start the first time and when I swapped memory slots it would work after that.
Axiom finally decided to refund me for the 32gb memory purchase after exhausting all of their support options. At this point, I went to Crucial since when I spoke with Apple support they confirmed that it could be the brand and I should opt for Crucial or a couple of other brands. I went ahead and ordered 16gb of memory from Crucial - I figured I would save some cash for now to test and confirm 16gb works.
I connected the two 8gb sticks they sent and I had the same results as the Axiom memory. I tried swapping to different slots but it refused to turn on with this memory. However, when I reverted back to the original Apple memory it would not start up with the original 8gb. I eventually was able to get the computer to start up but only when I connected a single 4gb stick of the original memory (which is what I am using to type up this post now).
I will try to turn it off again and connect the other original memory so at least I am at a useable 8gb. I am going to reach out to Apple support again and see if I can schedule to bring it in. I am not sure what sort of fix there would be and I looked into any type of firmwares available and possible resets (like PRAM) but I don't believe anything could help this. It is just very strange there could be a hardware issue that works with the original memory but nothing from any other vendors.

• How Can I separate my MIDI Channels with layered instruments in MainStage 2 With my Axiom 61?

I have been at it for 3 days straight. I want to play an internal instrument (EVB3 for example) and trigger samples with the EXS24 without triggering notes from the other instrument. I have my keyboard set to MIy help meDI channel 1 and my drum pads set to MIDI channel 10. The still play together. I've tried changing MIDI input on both channel strips to multitimbral, Channel 1 for the keyboard and channel 10 for the drum pads. Still playing together. I've tried changing attributes in the Mapping screen. Still...
I don't think its the Axiom. I've tried changing MIDI CC numbers but then it won't talk to either instrument. I'm currently using MIDI cables into a 3rd generation M-Box. I've tried using USB as well. Please, somebody help me!!

Sorry for the late responce, I've been in program mode and haven't had a chance to come back to this.
I figured it out. It was an option that I had over looked in the Assignments & Mapping tab in Edit Mode. At the bottom of the window that says All Devices. In that menu there is another tab that says Channel 1-16. If you click where it says Unassigned, down in the Screen Control Inspector there is a checked box that says "Send unassigned MIDI to all Channel Strips". If you uncheck that box then everything works perfectly. It is a little extra work having to assign the keyboard everytime you ad a channel strip but when you have to do some serious programming it's worth it.
Anyone who needs to program with multiple devices should uncheck this right out of the gate. It will save you from pulling your hair out.
Thank you Bruno for your help. It is much appreciated.

• I updated to OS X Mavericks and now trying to run Logic Pro X on a MacBook Pro mid-2009, using an M-Audio Axiom 49 and an M-Audio Fast Track Pro... Logic keeps telling me that Mac OS X MIDI Services are not available... How do I solve this problem?

I updated to OS X Mavericks and now trying to run Logic Pro X on a MacBook Pro mid-2009, using an M-Audio Axiom 49 and an M-Audio Fast Track Pro... Logic keeps telling me that Mac OS X MIDI Services are not available... How do I solve this problem?

I just checked to see if the update to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 solved any of the issues outlined in my previous post, and to my dismay, nothing has changed -- all of the previous problems persist.
My iMac (8) -- it's renamed itself eight times since the recent troubleshoot with the Apple tech rep -- shows up as a shared device in Finder on my MacBook Pro, but when I click on it, I cannot establish a connection using "Connect As".  So I've attempted to connect using the menu "Go/Connect to Server...", using both (alternately) the iMac's name and IP address, to no avail.  I get a message which reads: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'Peter's iMac (8)'. This server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time.  Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
Here's what I know:
The server -- Peter's iMac (8) does exist;
The server -- Peter's iMac (8) is available at this time;
The server name -- Peter's iMac (8) -- is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
The server IP address is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
The network connection is active when I attempt to connect.
I'm convinced the problems stem directly from the OS X Yosemite update.  None of this was ever remotely an issue in the previous OS X's -- any of them.  This is maddening!  What can be done?  Apple?? Anyone???

• Issue with Axiom 25 and Logic 9/9.01

New user here of Logic 9 and now Logic 9.01. Yesterday I received the M-Audio Axiom 25. I've noticed on certain plug-in patches I'm getting static (or sounds like digital distortion) with Massive, Mtron etc...Some of the patches are fine but a number of them sound highly distorted. Anyone else experiencing this issue or has any insight as to what the problem may be? Thanks.

I would say I'm somewhat disappointed that with 171 views not one person has made any suggestions for this issue. Well I ended up resolving my own issue! Turns out that this issue was being caused by use of a sample rate of 192khz with my Motu Ultralite mk3. Once I dropped the sample rate down to 9600 all the distortion was gone. Now to be fair, I presently reverted back to OSX 10.5.7 for testing purposes, but it behaved exactly the same as it did in OSX 10.6.1. So my bet is all along the issue has been the high sample rate of 192 causing the problems with 3rd Party apps (Massive) etc.... Interesting, that I don't notice these distortion issues at 192 with the instruments/sounds in Logic 9. Oh well, I'm glad it is resolved, now on to making music!

• Getting my imac(intel) to recognize Axiom 25 midi keyboard

G.B. (ver.6.0.5) on my imac (ver. 10.6.8) refuses to acknowledge either of my midi devices, Axiom 25 Controller or M-Audio Fire Wire Solo.  I know the connections are functioning because they both work in Live8.

• Axiom 49 - MainStage - Cannot get drum pads to work

I'm just starting MainStage and using an Axiom 49 M-Audio keyboard. I got the message to select Preset 1, I didn't know what that was so I clicked ok without doing anything in the Axiom 49. I get sound and everything else. I seem to be able to assign controls with the sliders and knobs, but when I try to assign any of the 8 drum pads on the right of the keyboard they don't work. It seems to "Learn" the pads when I try and assign them, but I can only click on them with the mouse in edit and perform modes. However then they don't make the same sound that was previously assigned to them, just a general midi instrument with the assigned note under Hardware Assignment.

Hi,
Try to re-program the drum pads to a more useful MIDI message, such as a note.
Please consult the keyboard's manual on how to do that.
Cheers

• I can't make transport controls on Axiom 49 work in LE7

Newby here . . .
I have RTFM and lurked on several boards, but I can't find an answer.
I can get the sliders, knobs, buttons, etc. to do the right thing on LE7's mixer with an M-Audio Axiom 49, but I can't figure out what LE7 wants to "hear" to get the transport controls (play, pause, record, and stop are all I really need) to work.
Help?

• Axiom 25 and Express Questions

Hi guys!
Ive got some questions about syncing up my M-audio axiom 25 to Logic. My goal right now is to be able to write bass and drum parts (addictive drums) into the piano roll in write mode using the midi controller.
1. first off how do I make the rotary controllers, say B1 to command logic to change the quantize parameters for when i'm writing drums in piano roll. turning clockwise will change the quantize value from 1/4 to 1/6 and counter clock wise will turn from 1/4 to 1/3.
2. After that, how can I set B2 to transport left or right in piano roll (clock wise counter clockwise) so the playhead can move to the quantized value, which would allow rests.
3. How can I set so my keystroke hits are placed between a certain velocity range? Like notes i play can only sound between 100 and 127 velocity.
4. Could you maybe give me some other cool functionality ideas for syncing the two up for my work environment? Im sure there are things I haven't thought of because im new to the whole concept of a MIDI controller.

Hi,
i don't know the Axiom, so maybe i'm wrong.
First, read the chapter on Control Surfaces in the Manual. Especially the Learn function (CMD-L) which can quick assign functions to a midi controller. Maybe this is all you need to get the knobs'n'buttons work. Select the function in Logic by clicking on it, press CMD-L and move the desired controller. That's all there is. You can, however, assign it manually in the control surface setup.
The second thing is the velocity range. This can be done afterwards with the transform function.
Usually i don't say this, but: Have a look in the manual. The tasks you want to perform are very specific, and it would be a long run to explain every little step here. However, feel free to ask if you have further questions

• IPad 2, Axiom 25, camera kit, power supply = STILL power issues

Hi,
I have read a lot of the river views regarding the power problems associated with the iPad and maximum MIDI controllers from them and. I tried some new conventional instructions, And did the following:
- acquired a 12V power supply (at 750 milliamps)
- got the iPad  camera connection kit
I also have a powered USB hub, but with the  can locate and external supply for the midi controller I'm not sure how that would be necessary anymore.
Nonetheless, when I  plus the Axiom 25 into the iPad through the camera cit, I am presented with the following:
"Cannot use device.  USB Axiom 25: the connected device requires too much power"
Ugh.  Really?  It's externally powered, I plugged the USB into the camera kit then plugged the whole assembly into the iPad, as I read to do.  And still?
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?  Is it the milliamperage on the power supply?  On M-Audio's Axiom user guide it specifies 250-300 milliamps, so more that that wouldn't matter right?
Thanks in advance,
Tom

Not sure if it will make a difference. I do know the USB via dock connector is limited as to how much power it can supply in order to conserve the ipad's battery life.

• L8 is seeing my Axiom as a Logic Control and it's wreaking havoc!

A new twist on all the control surface issues - I have a M-Audio Axiom 25 connected via USB and it's not setup in anyway as a control surface via the control surfaces preferences. I have never used it as such and never need to because I own a Logic Control.
All of the sudden, L8 is recognizing midi note input from the M-Audio as LC input - i.e. if I press an A3 it doesn't sound a midi note, but rather performs a specific Logic Control function as defined in the Key Command Preferences.
Of course, it's even worse because I have an Apogee Ensemble so Logic doesn't even recognize a potential Control Surface unless everything is powered up in just such a perfect way.
So I have a Logic Control that isn't recognized, and an Axiom 25 that is recognized as something it's not and if I go to Control Surfaces preferences, it's as if the world of cotrollers doesn't even exist because the master list of options is gone baby gone.
Anyone find a workaround for this?

totally different ports!
The LC is connected via my AMT8 - the Axiom is on it's own port via USB, so that shouldn't be issue.
I've tried cabling the Axiom port directly from the input object to a monitor and then terminating the connection just so I can see what it's transmitting - the "bad" notes don't show up as anything in the monitor and even though I've broken the Sum cable from the input object and the Axiom port is only cabled to a monitor and nothing else (the Sequencer input is not connected to anything at all!), L8 is receiving those key presses as LC commands.
So strange

• PROBLEM AXIOM AIR 61 IN LOGIC, DON'T REPRODUCE SOMETIMES THE TRACK RECORDED WITH AXIOM AIR 61

I have some problems working on LogicX, cuz when i play the track that i recorded with the AXIOM AIR 61, sometimes don't sound nothing, and then when i put play again it sound the track, the think is that the LogicX. I don't know if it's a driver problem o something like that. Need Help Urgent!

Folks.... I eventually solved the problem so if anyone else is interested here is the solution.
The Axiom DirectLink for Logic/Garage band: Axiom_DirectLink_For_Logic_OSX_1_0_0-3.dmg
Should install a file called Axiom.bundle in the directory
MacintoshHD/Library/Application Support/MIDI Device Plug-ins/Axiom.bundle
In my case (see above) the file had successfully installed to that location.  However, for some peculiar reason the permissions on the folder had been changed - current admin and users could not read or write.  I have no idea how that happened.  In any event, despite the fact that the file had been installed, when Logic was opened I was unable to see the Axiom as an available control surface to install.
I reset the permissions and the problem was solved!
It's only taken me a week to get there but now happy that it's OK.  The Axiom612 isn't cheap!
I hope this helps someone else.

• Midi Machine Control Parameters for Axiom 61 Transport

Greetings,
I have a fair understanding of controller assignements in LP 7.2.3 (Intel) however, I was wondering if the cycle button on the Axiom 61 can be programmed through MMC as the other button are.
Example: Stop button (CC# 149 "not control change, but rather MMC for Axiom")
MMC Number Value - 01
For play its - 02, FF - 04, RW - 05 and so on
My question - is there a MMC number value for Cycle?
Here is my MMC reference:
http://www.borg.com/~jglatt/tech/mmc.htm
Hope there's someone out there who knows if this is possible. I know it can be done with assignments in Logic, however, I would like to hard program it into the Axiom, by preference of course.
Thanks in advance

Don't think "loop" is an MMC function, more a function over the timecode master going back in time repeatedly and any slaves following the timecode.
Not sure what you are doing, but Logic can also output MMC on tracks with a tape deck icon, things like 'record enable' and so on - check the manual for details...
