Axiom49 or MPK49?

Hi,
just wondering what'd be better for producing beats with logic pro 8:
M-audio Axiom 49 or the Akai MPK49?
thanks

i have an MPK49 and i must first say i love love love it! this thing is built like a tank and has so many knobs you won't know what to do with urself. the presets are fantastic, since i use a lot of reason, and i have had no problems whatsoever. truly the best buy i have made in a long time! i go to berklee and it was recommended to me by a synth major, i am production, and man was he right! nice weight on the keys, you can really dig into them and as i said before it is built like a tank!

  • Low output when using Akai MPK49 controller

I'm completely new to Logic so I appreciate your taking the time to read this.
When ever I add a software instrument track and use my Akai MPK49 controller to control the instrument, the meters show that I have plenty of signal coming in, but the output is extraordinarily low. I can't even hear the instrument when I play other tracks with it! The Akai has TERRIBLE documentation so I'm not sure if I've screwed something up there as well. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something in Logic.

    hi. one trick to try:
    1. look to the right of the mode wheels, you will se the "performance controls" section in orange.
    2. press the FULL LEVEL button. this should give you zero velocity sensitivity, but up your output.

  • Can You assign mpk49 faders and knobs to work with logics mixer?

Just bought the akai MPK49. Just want to know what you can assign the faders and knobs to, and how you set it up in logic. And also whether you can assign the faders and knobs to control logics mixer volume. Thanks

ive found out how to do it. Make sure your keyboard is correctly installed. Then click on what you want to control. So open up the mixer and click on the parameter you want to control. For example if you want to control volume click on the volume fader (the actual rectangular thingy with the value in the middle). Then press 'command L'. Then move the fader and it should say assignment learned. Click on 'learn mode' in the bottom right hand corner of the window. And that should be it. The mistake i made was i was just clicking on the channel strip and not a specific parameter. Do the same for pan etc.... not sure if you can control the inserts like compression etc.... hope this helps

  • Akai MPK49

hey people. ive gone through the seting up of the mpk stuff on the fourms and its ok but all my key comands have gone and now so is this only usefull for simple play and stop etc? also, do u have to go to settings and change the midi and sync setting everythim i wanna have this feature.
i hope this all makes sence to someone....????

Which is the better way to go with Logic? The Kontrol 49 is already setup as a control surface in Logic, has lighted pads, the faders look more professional and they have displays to inform you of what they are assigned to at the moment.
The MPK49, well, doesn't have any of that but from what I've seen, many people still quite like it.
    What should I get?
You should get the one you like the most.

  • HELP Midi Akai mpk49

    Hello everybody.
I'm pretty new using Logic and mac anyway. I just got the logic 9 pro and also I have connected my Akai Mpk49 via USB. When I hit the A3 note and only this note I only get a hit every second time I touch the note. So every second time I wants to play the A3 note it's mute. When I change the octaves in whatever directions It follow the A3 note so its is not the key thats broken but some kind of midi setup problem. When I use Reason everything works fine so is there something in Logic I don't understand. ?? Also a problem when I hit the G3 note. but here it wont realease the key so it's continueing playing even after I release the key.
    Please help..
    Christian

Is there a Transformer object active in your Environment ( ⌘-8, *clicks & ports* layer)?
Are there any MIDI messages assigned to *Key Commands* in the *Controller Assignments* window ( ⌘-K )? If so, delete them.
    If not:
    Try trashing the preference files.
    0. Export your custom Key Commands (if you have any) from the Key Command window
    1. Quit Logic.
    2. Find the file com.apple.logic.pro.plist here: 'yourdisk'/Users/'you'/Library/Preferences/
    plus the file com.apple.logic.pro.cs
    3. Drag them to the Desktop
    4. Start Logic. It'll create a fresh .plist and .cs file. Now see if your problem is gone or not. If it is, you can trash the .plist and .cs file on the desktop. If it isn't, you can quit Logic and put the old .plist file back if you want your old settings back.
    regards, Erik.

  • I cannot connected my APC40 and MPK49 controllers with Logic Pro X?

I recently bought Logic Pro X, AKAI MPK49 and APC40 but I just cannot connect them. I tried to link the controller assignment for the APC40 but everytime I log out of Logic Pro X it seems to mess the configuration up and I lose the commands. When I log back my APC40 doesnt work.
As for MPK49, I can use it in intstrument software but cannot seem to connect it as an external MIDI.
Can anyone help me mapped both products?
    Thanks

X6 (via midi cable) plus good quality Audio/Midi interface (such as a Motu)  = No issues with LPX or Mavericks....
In other words.. stop using USB to connect to Mac.... and you should be fine.

  • Logic 8 and Akai MPK49

Are there anyone who is using the Akai Mpk49 with Logic 8 ? Im trying to get it to sync together so i cant benefit the most out of the keyboard. I've set the mpk to external midi clock and logic as master.(but im not to familiar with logic preferences 100%). As long as internal is use in sync mode should it work?
If anyone can help or explain will be much appreciated. Maybe i need to set some stuff first in environment ? Im a bit new to logic so please bare with me. Thank you

To configure the MPK49 transport buttons to control logic do the following.
The logic menu select 'File' / 'Project Settings' / 'Synchronization' Then from within the Synchronization window select the 'MIDI' tab. Look under the MIDI Machine Control (MMC) section and make sure it's configured to 'Listen to MMC input'.
As for using configuring the note repeat feature of the MPK49 you need to set the unit to external sync, then from within logic on the menu bar select 'File' / 'Project Settings' / 'Synchronization' Then from within the Synchronization window select the 'MIDI' tab. Look under the 'Transmit MIDI Clock' section and make sure the checkbox is selected for a destination and that the 'Akai MPK49' is selected from the drop down.

  • MPK49 Keyboard Velocity Response

I got on of these things and it's really cool EXCEPT:
The thing has no velocity curve settings for the keyboard, and I find that it is WAY too sensitive. Just playing lightly I keep getting full-velocity notes all over the place. On my old keyboard (roland a70), it took a decent amount of force and violence to get all the way to the top of the velocity range.
Has this not bothered anyone? Do I have a defective unit? (I don't think so because I tried a floor model at Guitar Center and it seemed to be the same)

You need to understand the Dynamics setting can go in either direction - it can either compress incoming velocities, or expand them.
Combined with the velocity offset, you can make the keyboard more sensitive in the lower range by compressing and shifting down.
Basically I'd be limiting incoming velocities.
Nope, you can compress or expand velocities.
Try it out. Obviously, depending what you keyboard is putting out will depend on how much you can get out of this - if the keyboard is only sending three velocities, you're not going to get a good response no matter what you do. But don't write it off until you try it. I wouldn't dare suggest something I didn't think would work...

  • Controller assignments(axiom49) automating mutes assignments get scrambled up?

i have an axiom 49...so when I am in the arrange or mixer window, I hit Apple+L for learn mode.  I want to be able to record mute automation realtime using my keyboard as the controller. So I select the mute on track one, the hit(for example) a white key. then go on down the line of tracks and assingn them side by side on my keyboard.  so that each key represents the mute of each sequential track...but when i exit the window, like the first 4 or 5 tracks no longer respond and the tracks that do respond, are responding to the wrong keys...like everything got shifted over?  does any body have any help on this issue?

    Hi Mike,
Have you set the right MIDI channels for the tracks in the inspector? Or are they still set to 'all' (default)?
Deleting the .cs means deleting your control surfaces settings (cs stands for control surfaces).
Also make sure that no CC's are filtered out. See File>Project Settings>Midi>Input Filter.
    regards, Erik.

  • How do i use one midi controller and ignore another in Mainstage 2.1?

I am running Mainstage and Ableton Live in parallel and use two midi controllers. I would like the APC40 to just be recognized by Live, and my MPK49 to be recognized by Mainstage and Live. Right now, I get midi signal from Mainstage on both midi controllers and can't seem to figure out how to assign just Mainstage to just get midi input from the MPK49. Any ideas? Thanks.

Yes, that worked a the device popups were set to all. Fixed that and moved on. Thanks! However another similar problem has come up...
The sliders on the APC40 (which I just want to be recognized by Live), are affecting the Mainstage Channel Strips volume sliders. I can't seem to figure how to make Mainstage ignore this as all of the APC40 sliders are effecting Channel Strip 1. Thanks.

  • Lost loops

I recently started using Ableton Live free with mpk49 anyway when i upgraded to Ableton full version they told me to dump my old folder. Since I've done that I'm missing all my Garageband Loops a menu comes up asking if i would like to reindex loops I tried that and the only thing i have now is my rythym jam pack folder . I've gone into the apple loops index and there is nothing there .Can someone help me

if you actually threw them out, you'll need to reinstall them:

(Let the page FULLY load. The link to your answer is at the top of your screen)
if the loops are still on your hard drive, reindex them manually:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/GBFAQ.html#reindex
(Let the page FULLY load. The link to your answer is at the top of your screen)
and where they should all be:

  • MIDI Issues on new rMBP

    Hi there,
I've just received my new retina MBP 15" and after getting it set up, I'm having issues with it not properly recognizing a MIDI device.
The device in question is an Akai MPK49 keyboard and it worked fine on my previous Mac (2011 MBP) and I've also tried it tonight on another 2012 non-retina MBP which also works fine, so it's definitely not the keyboard.
The new MacBook seems to recognise that something is plugged in, when I look in MIDI prefs in Ableton Live it finds a MIDI Device, but doesn't detect that it's an MPK as it should. I've also tried it in some standalone Native Instruments players and they won't find anything at all connected.
I've tried it in both USB ports, as well as through the TB port using the hub on the TB display, and nothing has worked. Interestingly, I tried a little 25 key LPK keyboard and it works fine.
    Any ideas?

You had better contact the tech support at the company that makes your keyboard (which you failed to name) as well as Epson for tech support for your scanner. They can solve the problems faster than we can on this forum.

  • Can Markers (or anything else) automatically change the patch?

I've been looking all over to try and figure out how to have MainStage automatically change to the next patch when a new Marker comes up on the backing track through PlayBack.
Basically, when i'm playing to a backing track, i sometimes play the pads and keys on my Akai MPK49, and when a new section comes up and i need need to change my synth sound, i don;t physically have enough hands to change to the next patch. I've read a load guides, but using the AIC driver in Logic seems far too complicated and I'm getting a bit out of my depth.
The whole point of me using markers is to identify different sections with different instruments, but I have to change between them manually anyway?
Is there a way to have the Marker automatically change the patch? The only other way i can see of getting round this live is having a midi footswitch to automatically cycle through the patches, which means Markers are of no use to me in my 'Perform' view really.
    Any help would be amazing!

    Hi
Currently, there is no 'super easy' way to have MS change patches automatically, and definately NOT directly from Playback markers.
It may be possible to make use of the MIDI file 'send' capability per patch or set, routing out and back in to MS, but frankly, NOT a great workaround.

  • Is there a way to save Preferences

I go into Preferences in Logic Pro 9 and click Midi>Sync Tab and change some things around so that my Akai MPK49 Midi Controller can function properly with Logic.
Every time I start Logic or Open a New File, I have to go in and set those Preferences again.
Is there a way that Logic will default to those Preferences once I set them?

    MIDI Sync Project Settings
Remember "Project Settings" are settings saved in your song file.
Preferences are settings saved in the preference file.
Preferences and Project Settings are two different things.
The settings you are changing need to be saved in a song, they are not "preferences".
How can I set these up as Global Settings?
Save them to a template, called for example "My Startup Template". (File -> Save as Template)
I think I am getting the Blank Template Concept. Mine always opens to my last open project.
How do I always open to my template once I set it up?
Logic -> Preferences -> General -> Project Handling
Select Startup Action = "Create new project using default template" and choose the song template you saved - now when you start Logic, it creates a new project based on this template project, which has all your song settings set up as you'd like.
