  • Is it possible to copy iCloud backup to Mac for manual restore of iPhone?

Hey guys, thank you in advance for your help.
I've been backing up to icloud since I got my 4S, and have only been manually copying selected photos to my iPhoto library. Recently my camera roll and camera started acting strange (lagging, not loading/storing properly) so I wasn't surprised when iTunes told me I needed to update my iPhone software. When it tried to install the update, iTunes couldn't recognize the phone (not surprising considering how glitchy it had been) and told me I needed to restore the phone. Nbd, right?
I backed up to iCloud one last time, initiated the restore, and then went to bed. I woke up this morning to discover that fewer than half of my photos had been returned to my camera roll, and my photo stream had disappeared. I went into Settings-->General-->iCloud on my phone and it said the restore was incomplete. I got the restore back on track (it picked up where it had left off [thank Goodness] instead of starting over completely). It's currently creeping along, loading a new photo every few minutes, and videos are taking approximately a year each (I exaggerate, but only slightly).
Frustrated, I checked my photostream in iPhoto on my Mac to see if I could bypass the problem by using that to recover the photos from the past week (nearly everything valuable had been imported already). My plan was to scrap the restore and start fresh with an empty camera roll, re-populated via Photostream. But for some reason the photos and videos from the past week never made it to Photostream.
And thus, the waiting game continues.
In a nutshell: I need to know if it's possible to copy the iCloud folder that contains my full backup directly to my Mac and then do the restore from there.
Also, is it possible to backup the iPhone to iCloud AND your computer? iTunes makes it look like they're mutually exclusive, and as much as I appreciate the convenience and security of iCloud (i.e. having a backup in the event of loss, theft, etc. of phone and/or computer) I don't like being cut off from my data like this.
Thank you for your time; have an awesome day!:)

    No.

  • How do I get rid of duplicate identical views of iCloud contacts in 'Contacts' on my iMac

Here is the left hand window as it appears in my address book.  I had to disconnect from iCloud in order to restore Photo Stream.  The recent iPhoto update had disconnected iPhoto and Photo Stream.  This is now repaired and everything else (Calendars, Notes, Reminders, iWork) seems to be working well.  There are no duplicate contacts just two ways of accessing the same lists.  iCloud to iPad is fine.
How can I get rid of the duplicate view?  Seen similar problems on this site but not found anything quite the same.

Found the answer myself while helping to set up iPhone.  It is simple when you know how.  Before signing out of iCloud to sign in again and restore the link to Photo Stream I had opted to copy iCloud contacts to the Mac.  When I signed in again this created two iCloud views which can be seen in Contacts Preferences.  I just disabled one of them.  Not brave enough to attempt removal but I gues this would work too.

  • When using iCloud Mail with a laptop and smartphone, how do I delete an e-mail from one without deleting it from the other?

I recently have started using iCloud for Mail on both my laptop (MacBookPro, OSX 10.8.5) and my smartphone (iPhone4, iOS7.1.1).
I understand that with iCloud mail is stored in the cloud.  Is there a way of erasing a message from either the laptop or the smartphone while leaving it on the other?  How?

    Hi jeagle7,
iCloud uses a form of IMAP for mail, meaning that by default, the mail should appear the same on any device accessing the account, and anything done to the mail (such as deleting it) should apply to all devices. If you like, you may want to make a local copy of the mail prior to deleting it; the following article may be helpful:

  • Do i have to stay signed in to icloud

hi, fairly new to all my apple products(but getting there) do i need to stay signed in to icloud on my devices or can i sign out and everything will still back up etc ok?
    Thanks in advance!

Actually, I'd like to know the answer to this, too.  I've connected to iCloud on my iMac (trying to get everything set up) in System Prefs (Lion).
After checking the boxes and everything, you click "sign out", and it asks you a bunch of questions like, "do you want to keep all your iCloud contacts on this iMac?  If you don't keep a copy, iCloud contacts will be removed from this mac, but will still be available on your other devices using iCloud".
So, then you can click "Keep", or "Delete".  Scary -- not familiar with any of this -- don't know what to do.  So, click "Keep".
Next box, pops up.  "If you stop using iCloud for calendars and reminders, calendars and reminders stored in iCloud will be removed from this iMac."  "Delete from Mac" or "Cancel".  Ok, I dunno....."Delete" (because I really don't have any info in any of these yet.
Next pop-up box (sigh!):  "Are you SURE you want to turn off PhotoStream?"  "Cancel" or "Turn off PhotoStream".
Huh?  Nowhere did I tell it to turn off PhotoStream.  All I did here before all this happened was click the "Sign Out" button in the System Preferences.
Any suggestions?  Do we just leave ourselves signed in, and click the red X to close the system preferences?  Because obviously, signing out is messing with my head right now.  And I've got a whole family to set up iCloud.  Ugh.  I would LOVE any help!  Thanks in advance!!!

  • How do I set up iCloud without duplicating my contacts in address book?--I'm not syncing with iTunes.

I'm going around and around in circles trying to set up iCloud on my iMac and iPhone. The contacts are not duplicated on iCloud/contacts, or my iPhone, but they are duplicated on my iMac in address book. Sync calendars and Sync contacts are unchecked (turned off) on iTunes. I just went through my address book on the iMac and deleted all the duplicates, but they were all added back immediately. I've been trying various solutions from the forums. I tried merging duplicate contacts--didn't work. Help!

Okay--I'll try this, but before I do, can you answer another question?
When I deselect the box next to contacts on system preferences > iCloud, I get a scary air message that says, "Do you want to keep a copy of your iCloud contacts on this Mac? If you don't keep a copy, iCloud contacts will be removed from this mac but will still be available on other devices using iCloud."
My mac has all of my contacts, but there are some that are not on my iPhone (Chistmas card list). Will I lose the contacts that are not backed up on my iPhone?
Should I select "Delete from Mac" or "Keep Contacts"?
Similar air message with calendars, so I assume whatever I do with contacts will be the same as calendars.
Thank you so much for your help--this has been so confusing for me!! I"m sure this has been discussed over and over and I looked through the messages to find a solution, but just got more confused.

  • How do I transfer my imac address book to icloud

My contact book on my iMac has not transferred to iCloud.  The iCloud setting on my computer
has both the contacts and calendar checked.  How do I transfer the computer's contacts to the
iCloud without getting duplications of everything?

    thank you for your help
My mac settings are set for iCloud so that is not working.
When I go to sign out of iCloud.com it gives me a message " Do you want to keep a copy of your iCloud contacts on this Mac? If you do not keep a copy, iCloud contacts will be removed from this Mac, but will still be available on other devices using iCloud."
    The options are then:
         Delete from Mac
         Cancel
         Keep Contacts
Since my contact book on my iMac has everything including the couple of new entries through iCloud it is important to keep them.  I like iCloud, if it works in that it automatically goes to the computer and my phone
without having to plug the phone in to sync which helps since we are out of town regularly.
I appreciate your efforts in helping me for I find iCloud tough to understand and get working so that not everythin is duplicated.
    Jim

  • Switching iCloud User accounts on same MAC

When I go to sign out of current iCloud user account it states "Do you want to keep a copy of your iCloud contacts on this MAC?" then it states "If you dont keep a copy, iCloud contacts will be deleted from this MAC but still be available on other devices using iCloud.
My question/concern would be, since we have multiple user accounts on this MAC, it shows that my wife is signed in and the contacts list is from her devices, if I sign her out to sign in with my Apple ID, when she goes to her user account, will her contacts be deleted?   If they are deleted, can then she sign out then sign in to have her stuff re-synched to her account with out showing on my account?

... , if I sign her out to sign in with my Apple ID, when she goes to her user account, will her contacts be deleted?
They will remain in iCloud, and will be restored when she signs in again.
You can erase them from the Mac any time, but it's a good idea to retain your own copy should iCloud become inaccessible for whatever reason.

  • I seem to have two apple id's. How do I get rid of one?

I am trying to access the Cloud to find a lost document, but I seem to have two apple id's, one is verified. I can't access cloud. How can I do that? Is there any other way to find my document? It means another week of work if not.

    Hi SGayleC,
It appears that your iCloud account on your Mac is still associated with the old email address.  On your Mac, In System Preferences, are you able to click on iCloud and sign out of your old account?   If so, you should then be able to sign in with your correct Apple ID and password.
I'm including some information on this below, and a link to our Apple ID support team if you need it.
OS X Yosemite: If you sign out of iCloud
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18999?viewlocale=en_US
OS X Yosemite: If you sign out of iCloud
If you sign out in iCloud preferences, your iCloud mail, calendars, reminders, notes, and documents stored in iCloud are removed from your Mac. If you have photos in My Photo Stream that aren’t imported, they’re removed from your Mac. Your bookmarks and Reading List remain in Safari, but the iCloud Tabs list of webpages open on your other devices is no longer available.
When you sign out of iCloud, you’re asked whether you want to keep a copy of the data for Contacts and Safari passwords. If you keep copies of the iCloud data, iCloud doesn’t keep the copy up to date with changes on your other devices.
Copy iCloud documents and data before signing out
Before signing out of iCloud, you can copy or archive iCloud documents and data to your Mac.
iCloud Drive: For instructions on copying documents to your Mac, see Store documents with iCloud Drive.
Documents and data you copy to your Mac aren’t kept up to date with changes on your other devices.
After signing out of iCloud on your Mac, you can still access your iCloud documents and data on your other devices set up for iCloud and on iCloud.com. If you sign in to iCloud again on your Mac, your iCloud documents and data reappear on your Mac.

  • Address book and calendar not syncing correctly. Events are being duplicated in the calendar, or disappearing totally, and the addresses are not updating.

I've been having problems with my calendar recently.  Events I've listed are disappearing, without my having deleted them.  And when I update my addresses in my computer, my  iphone doesn't update when it is synced.  Any ideas what could be causing this?  I have an iphone 4, and have updated to ios5.  The problem with my calendar started before changing to ios5, I'm not sure about the problem with my addresses, I've just realized it.

Okay--I'll try this, but before I do, can you answer another question?

  • Yahoo Mail storage on iMac

If I set-up Apple Mail on my Mac desktop to access my Yahoo BizMail account, including the 40K+ archived emails there, will Apple Mail download all those to my harddrive, or just access them from the Yahoo 'cloud'?
And if download is the default, can it be setup to download only recent mail, then send and access only recent mail from Apple Mail, while keeping all the archived mails on Yahoo?
    Thanks.

    Hi Freezermale,
If you are not seeing any storage gains after moving a portion of your iCloud emails, you may want to double-check that they were in fact moved/deleted from iCloud and not simply copied/duplicated in your 'On My Mac' folder. If you continue to have issues with your iCloud storage, you may find the following articles helpful (apologies if you have already seen them):

  • Como quitar la pestaña de copia de seguridad de icloud le doy a ok y no responde.  Tampoco me deja apagar ni desbloquear mi ipad.  Ayuda!!!

Como quitar la pestaña de copia de seguridad de icloud le doy a ok y no responde.  Tampoco me deja desbloquear ni apagar mi ipad.  Ayuda!!!

    Sorted/solucionado
