Azure Service (Health) Dashboard - Accuracy and timeliness of service status indicators

The Azure SHD is a really nice tool to get an overview over current service degradation and interruptions. But currently I am wondering what the more accurate or recent status of an incident is.
In the following example the incident is classified as "Service Interruption" however the title of this entry describes this incident as degredation:
http://imgur.com/f2nztVf
There are many more examples where the title of an incident report doesn't match with the status indicator. That's why I wanted to ask what the more accurate/recent classification information is: The title of an incident or the (icon) classification?

Hi phreazer,
Thanks for posting!
Base on my experience, I think classification of incident reports is by Regions and Clusters Impacted and Customer Impacted. The icon of legend only shown the severity level of incident. I think you could use those icons to classify the severity levels.
Hope it helps.

Will

  • Service Registry documentation URL and deleting published services?

    Hello,
We are using SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 SP 7. Do anyone know how you can control the published Documentation URL for published Service Interfaces in the Service Registry when you publish service interfaces directly from the ESR (from the WSDL tab on a Service Interface)?
Do anyone know if you can delete published service interfaces in the Service Registry if a service interface have been deactivated/deleted/is not used any more?
    Regards,
    Markus Johansson

    Hi Markus,
There is anothre approach to delete services using API's.
Determine the WSDL Url of your Services Registry.
    - Open SAP NetWeaver Administrator and choose SOA Management Application and Scenario Communication Single Service Administration .
    - Search for ServicesRegistrySi and copy the Services Registry WSDL.
    Open WS Navigator.
    - In the WSDL Url field, enter the Services Registry WSDL and choose Next.
    - All Services Registry API operations are displayed.
    - Select operation hideServiceDefinitions and choose Next.
    - Enter either the UDDI key or the logical key of the service definition you want to delete and choose Execute.
Both keys are displayed on the General tab in the Services Registry.
In case SR shows you as having no logical key for the service you are interested in removing.
There is another operation, findServiceDefintions, that can be used to search a name that will return the UDDI key. Take that value and plug it into the hideServiceDefintions uddiKey value.

  • Internet Service drops for days and Useless Customer Service

Does anyone know how to get through Verizon's shield of 'customer service' and actually get a problem resolved?  There's no means of direct access that I have found that can get past the technical support gate keepers to anyone with enough authority to think outside the script or actually look at a customers history and recognize something is wrong.
I have had DSL/High Speed Internet Enhanced service for 4 or 5 months now and have experienced probably 6 or 7 periods where I lose internet connectivity for about 2 to 5 days.  The first couple of times I was nieve and believed it was because I live in the boonies and there had been some (mildly) bad weather, which could have knocked out local service.  But it's been a reoccuring theme and I've discovered that the problem isn't infrastructure in the boonies, but the tie in to the internet at their central offices that is the problem.  And each time I've always had 'dsl' connecitivity, but the 'internet' LED on my modem would be off.
Each time I call I'm forced to go through the same routines over and over.  Here's a synopsis of how it goes (though the full routine eats up 30 minutes to an hour of time):
      * Please turn equipment on/off (never mind I've already done that, connected to the modem's management interface, looked at settings/status long before I even considered calling Verizon)
      * conveying the modem's model number (don't they have a record of this anywhere?)
      * waiting while they perform a line test
      * hearing 'there's no outage in your area, arguing that it isn't my equipment or on my end, hearing 'oh wait.... it turns out there is an outage in your area',
      * hearing 'i'll contact the mysterious outage team (that you shall never directly speak to)'  and call you back with a prognosis',
      * (optional step) Receive a call back that says 'they're working on it and it will be back online in a few days.
      * (optional step) Have it actually working in a couple of days.
Then I'm good to go for another 2 or 3 weeks.
On the previous round of outages I spoke to a 'supervisor', who actually called me back and let me know that he recognized this was a recurring problem and he had traced it to a router that had repeated failed.  He assured me that I would be switched to another router immediately so it would not occur again  (he actually 'promised' this won't be an issue going forward, not that I believed anything a verizon employee said to me at this point).  He also mentioned the router was going to be replaced too.  And he promised to pro-rate my bill to componsate me for all the days I didn't have service.
Fast forward two or three weeks, and he's proven wrong.  Not only did I not get the discount in compensation for no service (not to mention rediculous amounts of time on the phone), the service was also down again.  This time they called the day after I filed my initial repair request and reported it should be working, but to call 1800 verizon if it isn't.  Since I wasn't home waiting on their call, they closed the ticket because of 'no customer response'  Of course it wasn't actually working, so i called and opened another ticket.  Now they claim it will be resolved tomorrow (about 6 days after I first called).
Now I understand equipment fails, lines get cut, etc. and I don't expect 100% uptime.  But a nice, HONEST response explaining the situation and a recognition that a failure once or twice is fine, but 6 or 7 times is a chronic problem and should be escalated in priority would be great.  And please don't placate me by telling me you're 'very sorry for my inconvenience' and that you will 'get it resolved for me'.  I don't buy it at this point.  Verizon has lost all of my trust.  If there were a better alternative, I'd switch in a heart beat.

So how do I get my issue escalated like everyone else?  Can any moderators hook me up? Or am I just out of luck?
Feel free to give me kudos so a moderator might notice this.  Thanks.

  • JAX-RPC: Web service where both server /and/ client are services?

I'm considering a two-way Web service in an application that I'm designing and would appreciate any insight from prior experience.
This will be a standard client-server application, where the server broadcasts messages and the client, in turn, can request further information about the messages that it receives (think RSS-style updates, but with more interaction). [strong]However[strong], instead of having the client poll the server for new messages, I'd like to have the client register itself with the server as a message listener. The server is currently implemented as a Web service on port X. I'd like the client to register itself with the server, and then receive messages on port Y.
I'm considering a design like the following (note the directions of the inheritance arrows):
    ( Server class )  --<-- ( RemoteServerImpl class ) -->-- / RemoteServer interface /
           |
    ( Listener class ) --<-- ( RemoteListenerImpl class ) -->-- / RemoteListener interface /Some considerations:
    * In both cases, the client and server are broken out into an interface and two classes. The non-Remote classes implement all of the functionality. The RemoteX interfaces declare the methods that will be exposed via RPC, and the RemoteXImpl classes are empty subclasses of the non-Remote classes.
    * In order to register itself with the Server, the Listener must be passed in as a method parameter, and thus conform to the JAX-RPC specification for value types. However, value types can't implement java.rmi.Remote.
    * Only the Server and Listener know anything about each other.
    * This application can be run either remotely or locally, depending on how the Server and Listener are instantiated. For the latter, they're instantiated directly and the listener is registered with the Server. For the latter, the RemoteX interfaces will point to the service stubs.
    * I don't see an easy way to allow both the Server and the Listener to have references to each other (at least now without some casting magic), since one of them will have to conform to the value type specification, which requires that all of its fields must be valid JAX-RPC types.
I've got the Server portions implemented and working, and am now going to turn to the Listener stuff. Can anybody see a fundamental problem with this design, or can suggest something better?

    Hi There,
Because web services are fundamentally a Services-oriented architecture, and not an Object-oriented one, you are unable to pass objects by reference (only by value) hence the design decision to not allow rmi.Remote objects to be sent across the wire. The best way would be to abstract an object which does itself not represent a server, but a route to a server (lets call it ServerPointer). This must contain address, port, service info, etc.
Now, in your Server class, create a factory method which takes a ServerPointer, and returns a reference to a
remote server, e.g. protected Server createServer( ServerPointer p ) (using the necessary APIs to get such a reference)
    Hope this helps...

  • Does anyone in California get full service?  (all bars and 4 G service)

I drive a truck, delivering product from Arcata,CA in the north to Lake Elsinore,CA in the south.  I have the phone mounted on the dash so I can see when the company sends me texts of my next pick up or delivery.  I drive highway 101 to San Francisco then jump over to I-5 via hwy 580.  I have yet to have full service anywhere. Most of the time it's just 2 bars.  The company has called several times but the system doesn't hold it and drops the call.  Beginning to think I spent all that money on a system that doesn't work.

I know how cell service works, it works the same as 2 meter ham radio service.  You have to have antennas in the area which have repeaters on them with your signals. I'm NOT an idiot. I'm 55 years old and have been using a cell phone for quite some time.  The problem I have is the company I work for made me upgrade to a smart phone which sends and receive text message from their computer. I had a trac phone from Walmart for the past 15 years and had no problem getting and receiving phone calls from anywhere I delivered. Whether I was in the hills of Northern California or the flat lands of Utah, calls always came through.  I could not use that phone with this company because my company could not send text message to me.
Another thing, my brother has AT&T and he has four bars all the time and I've seen it.  He has much better service than I have.  If AT&T hadn't screwed me with a contract from 4 years ago, then I would have went with them.
Thanks for you reply to my message. If I need help again I wont come to these forums.

  • Standard Web Service and Customized Web Services with or without PI?

    Hi All,
I want to know how I can use Standard Web Service available in SAP  and customized Web Services
    without PI Interface?
And what is the best practice to expose services ,via PI Interface or directly?
    Thanks in advance!!
    Pushkar

This is purely based on your requirement. If you use PI middleware to expose web services, you get standard functionalities such as certificate authentication, logging, message reprocessing for the failed messages etc.  If your requirement is so simple, then you might not need PI. In this case you can develop simple webdynpro for abap program to create webservice and expose the webservice in ECC webservice runtime. You can let anyone to consume within your network. other ways like exposing BAPI/RFC as webservice.  I would recommend going with PI.

  • OSB dashboard Service Health tab broken when a managed server is down

I have shut down one of the managed servers in my three-member OSB 10.3.1 cluster to load test the reduced configuration, and that has broken the "service health" tab on the OSB console dashboard.
The problem is that with the mgd1 server shut down (the one the Singleton marker ear is deployed to, if that matters), in the OSB console's Dashboard everything in the "Service Health" tab is broken. I get the warning message "Unable to obtain metrics data from the server" at the top of the page whenever I go to the dashboard. I can't even look at the displays for the individual (mgd2, mgd3) servers that are running. I get the following error in the log when trying to access the service health for the services in the cluster, or even if I try to get the health of services in either of the two remaining cluster members individually:
    +####<Apr 8, 2010 11:00:02 PM EDT> <Error> <AlertLog> <nj09mhm0033.edmz.mcgraw-hill.com> <SS_ESB_Admin> <[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '0' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <> <1270782002573> <BEA-000000> <WLDFAccessRuntimeMBean is not available for server SS_ESB_mgd1>+
Also, as part of the load test procedure, I need to collect performance stats from the proxy service pipeline and the business service. To do this, I've written JMX code called out of soapUI scripts to reset the stats on these services before the run, then collect the stats after the run ends; the code connects to the admin server. This too is broken when the mgd1 server is shut down.
I get the error below when trying to collect the cluster stats from the Admin server from the JMX code. This error is fatal, and no statistics come back from the rest of the cluster either. (you can ignore all the groovy stuff in the stack trace, it's the nested Exceptions that are more interesting).
Does anyone have an idea about what's going on, and how I fix this? I would have thought the DomainService Runtime MBean would be able to catch and handle an Exception like this if one of the managed servers were down, and collect the stats from the available part of the cluster, but it looks like that's not the case.
    TIA for any help.
    /Steve Elkind

  • Business Objects Reports and Web Services for Dashboards

    Hello!
I am writing a Business Object report against my Universe.  I save the report to the CMS and then right click on the report block and click "Publish as a Web Service...".  This opens up that diaglog and I am able to publish the web service.  I then can import the web service into Dashboards 4.1 (Xcelsius) and am working working to figure it out further at this point.
My question is this:  When I go back to the report in Business Objects, and modify the report, I would like to republish the web service.  I click on Design and rework the report.  Run the report.  Save the report.  I right click on the report block and I don't see the "Publish as a Web Service..." choice.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Business Objects 4.1...
    Thank you.

    Hi Susan,
Go to the web service publisher, expand the web service, select the block and select edit.
Select the content and prompt and select Update.

    Hi,
I am getting below error in SharePoint PPS Dashboard Designer.

    Poomani Sankaran

    Hi,
Please check whether activate the PerformancePoint Services Site Features.
Or try to increase the max limit for excel services to required level. By default its 10MB and the powerpivot files are much larger.
SharePoint Central Administration, and go to Application Management > Manage Service Applications > ExcelServiceApp > Trusted File Locations and click on the appropriate Address. Under the Workbook Properties section you will see a Maximum Workbook
    Size.

  • SCOM 2012 Service Level Dashboard

I have been tasked with creating a Service level dashboard for SCOM 2012. After reading up on various blogs and sites around methods and BI / reporting tools I am no closer to knowing what would be the best solution, and would appreciate some guidance.
I want to create SLO groups for applications - Exchange, AD, SQL, SCCM etc. and have a high level heat map with measures like CPU util, Disk space %, latency etc. updated every minute and displayed in each block (preferably using corners of a single block),
and if possible to add a bootstrap style icon into each block.
I would like drill down functionality on each group that then breaks down into another heatmap (per server).
And then to drill down further which displays a SLD type dashboard on that instance.
I am comfortable with creating the final level SLD using widgets, would it be possible to use Visio for the heatmaps ?
I have looked into using Power View, would conditional formatting be a better option ?
Id like to publish the dashboard into Sharepoint.
Would appreciate your feedback. Once i know which solution to look into, it would become much easier to focus my attention.

  • Services Monitoring Dashboard in OEM

when I tried to run Service Monitoring Dashboard in OEM, one of the screen ask for the "Web Application to included in this report" so I was trying to picl the web site "EM WEbsite" (the only one target type that I have in my GRID), two questions
    1. what is this EM Website for?
    2. right now it show as down, do I need for it to be up? everything in my GRID seems to work ok but this guy is down and I don't know what it's for.
    Thanks,

    The EM website is EM's user interface - i.e. <hostname>:<port number>/em.
Service Leve Management (SLM) in Enterprise Manager is designed to help you model the service level agreement or operational level agreement that you define between your business users and IT, and between IT groups. To monitor the service level of applications, SLM is typically used with EM's synthetic transaction monitoring capabilities. For example, you may want to define synthetic transactions to simulate end users logging into your application, issuing queries, clicking on links, etc... in order to collect controlled measurements of application performance and availability.
Since Enterprise Manager itself is an application, we decided to set up a test to monitor it at well. What you typically want to do is to take the base setup that we provide to you, and add more beacons. Beacons are synthetic transaction "robots" that are used to send these synthetic transactions to the applications. For example, if your data center where EM is located is in the U.S., and you have administrators logging in from the U.K., you may want to deploy a beacon at their location so that the beacon can test from their location whether they can access EM or not. I am not sure why your EM website is down. Chances are something changed in your EM setup and the synthetic transaction is no longer valid. All you have to do is replace the existing test with a new one. At any case, the EM website being down is not going to affect your use of SLM in EM.
    Hope this helps.

  • OSB Service Health Tab Information

    Hi All,
I was suppose to do some monitoring and performance testing on some of the OSB services . During this process, I have enabled Monitoring on the required services and was able to find the respective metrics on the Service Health Tab of the OSB Console .
    Now my question/requirement is ,
Where does OSB store this information which is shown on the console . Could you please let me know if any of you know about the Table Name
If its not a table, could you please let me know  is there a way to access this information in any other way
    Thanks
    Sandeep

    Hi Sandeep,
You can access the statistics using JMX APIs. Using JMX framework you can pull the information.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E28280_01/admin.1111/e15867/monitoring_ops.htm#i1107353
There is a sample program provided in below link to retrieve statistics
"Sample Program to Retrieve Statistics for a Proxy Service that is Enabled for Monitoring"
