APEX Essentials - Looking for early adopters

I'm currently developing a new open source Oracle APEX development tool and I'm looking for early adopters/beta testers.
Details can be found at http://essentials.oracleapex.info/
Feel free to use this thread to give feedback, share ideas, enhancements, bugs, ...
Thanks

Peter,
you are correct with the processing3.gif. I added the separate file, because I thought it's not part of the APEX distribution. Fixed that.
About your "ORA-01031: insufficient privileges messages":
In "Supporting Objects\Prerequisites" has this kind of privileges are checked.
I tested that yesterday and it's showing up correctly when installing on 3.0 and 3.1 when a privilege is missing. Any idea what could be wrong? What privilege (exact statement) have you granted to your user.
Thanks
Patrick

• Any Chance for Rebate for Early adopters?

I have been a bit upset with RIM, just a "bit", with the fact that early adopters like myself who went and bought the Playbook on day #1 are not getting any benefits. We stuck with Playbook even when email, etc were not fully available and paid full price. Now I see rebates and price reductions. Sure early buyers pay, but we also are the ones who carry the flag of RIM. Is there any perks or discounts for us?

• Looking for early upgrade

Hi I'm a Meteor bill pay customer since 2000 and am looking for an early upgrade I called into the dundrum branch and was told that meteor may offer and early upgrade if only 4 months remaining on contract I have less than 4 months left on mine

Hi Tj18,
Unfortunately it's not something I can advise on personally. However if you give our loyalty team a call on 1800567085, they'll be happy to look into that for you.
Cheers,

• Apple HAVE rewarded their early adopters in the past

I must admit that my first thoughts on reading the posts of users complaining about the price drop was along the lines that everyone knew that the price would come down eventually so what's all the fuss about.
Then I remembered my experience as an early adopter of Apple's Aperture photo software which initially cost $499 with no opportunity to download a trial version. When Apple upgraded Aperture to v.1.1 a few months later they dropped the price to $299 AND they offered a $200 Apple Store coupon to people who had paid full price for the first version.
So, Apple does have a history of "making it right" for early adopters. Let's hope that they are listening to these complaints and will come through in the end.

You have to let Apple know. Apple doesn't use these forums. Voicing yourself with a Retail Manager, and using the feedback form are the best avenues for communicating with Apple.

• How do I reset Mountain Lion to an earlier state? I'm looking for a PC-style restore point.

I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mountain Lion about a week ago. Soon after, I noticed a problem with Zinio Reader (I could not view my magazines any longer). I found instructions on Zinio's Web site to remove the reader and Adobe Air, then re-download and install the reader. Things seemed to go smoothly for a short while, but then my MacBook slowed to a crawl. It takes about five minutes just to log into my machine. I'm getting a lot of the beach ball action. Every action—even resizing a window—has become an agonizing chore. So now I'm looking for a way to set my machine back to an earlier state—something like Windows restore points.

To answer your Carbonite vs Time Machine (you should probably ask this in a new thread .)
I prefer Time Machine because it backs my system preferences, user account (if you have more than one), apps, and files.  It's also fast to restore.  4 hours max from reinstall of my osx (from Leopard to Lion) to Time Machine Restore.
Carbonite just back up your files.
I tried the free version of Carbonite once (5 gigs of storage), and didn't like it.
I also know people have a hard time restoring from Carbonite because it is so slow.  You should probably test that out sometimes.
One last problem I have with Carbonite is that if you delete a file on your mac, it will be deteled on the Carbonite within 7 day (something like that).  With Time Machine, as long as the drive is big enough, the file will be there (until the drive is full, than the oldest Time Machine backup will be deleted).
The advantage of Carbonite is that the files are not in your house.

• MacBook Early 2008 Core 2 Duo/Penryn Series - Unable to upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion ( Looking For  A Fix )

I own a  MacBook "Early 2008 Core 2 Duo/Penryn" Series has Intel Processor (T8100 (2.1 GHz ) / T8300 (2.4 GHz)) 45 nm "Penryn" processors, 4 GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) installed in pairs (two 02 GB modules), a 160.0 GB Serial ATA (5400 RPM) hard drive with "Sudden Motion Sensor" technology, an 8X dual-layer write DVD±RW/CD-RW SuperDrive, an Intel GMA X3100 integrated "graphics processor with 144 MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory", and a 13.3" widescreen TFT active-matrix "glossy" display (1280x800 native resolution). It also includes AirPort Extreme (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, a FireWire "400" port, two USB 2.0 ports, optical digital audio in/out, and video out capabilities (mini-DVI) that supports an external display. These models also include the "scrolling Trackpad", built-in iSight video camera, "MagSafe" power connector, "flush against the bed " keyboard that does not touch the screen” and "no moving parts" magnetic latch that "catches without a catch".
Now to the adventure on this, the above model (stock) ships with a Operating System MAC OS X Leopard which was succeeded by MAC OS X Snow Leopard ( $19.99 / INR 1060.00 approx. ) which was again upgraded to MAC OS X Lion ( $19.99 / INR 1060.00 approx. ) and the latest one is MAC OS X Mountain Lion ( $19.99 / INR 1060.00 approx. ).
Interesting part to all this technological babble is how APPLE INC forces you buy their product both hardware and software. Now, I have this old MacBook Early 2008 Model PC and I took it to the shop and I thought I would upgrade the software (OS and APPS) so I take it to the iStore ‘Rescue Centre’, as APPLE INC calls it world over, they say you will have to upgrade it version by version and each version would cost you a licence fee! SO the cost break up would be, I’m currently on MAC OS X Leopard to be updated by MAC OS X Snow Leopard ( cost $19.99 / INR 1060.00 approx. ) which again to be upgraded MAC OS X Lion ( cost $19.99 / INR 1060.00 approx. ) and then to latest one is MAC OS X Mountain Lion ( cost $19.99 / INR 1060.00 approx. ) which means I have to pay INR 3210.00 to upgrade the machine and I agree to pay for that and after two upgrades the third one(that is the latest version) was not compatible with my machine because of inferior/outdated hardware e unit and If I want the new operating system then I told to buy the new machine which costs between INR 90,000 to INR 1,40,000!!
That … ***** !!!
So I’m here looking for somebody, anybody,  whether you would be able to help me with my MacBook which is early 2008 Core 2 Duo/Penryn Series (for exact specifications, see above) and I currently running Lion on it and wondering is there any way I can upgrade this to Mountain Lion?

Your early 2008 MacBook cannot be upgraded to Mountain Lion. The reason is that Mountain Lion is entirely a 64 bit operating system, and cannot use any 32 bit components. Lion, while also 64 bit-based, can use some 32 bit components, and thus would work on all Core 2 Duo machines. This article has more details.
The center you went to was incorrect when they said you have to upgrade to each operating system. You need to be at Snow Leopard in order to access the App store to download Mountain Lion. You don't have to install Lion to get to Mountain Lion. See this Apple page on this.

• Looking for APEX tutoring in NJ (with pay) - urgent -

Hi,
I'm a newbie to APEX. I can get a simple form up and running fine. But the project is more than a simple form. I have not got a chance to get training yet. I'm looking for an experienced APEX developer in NJ to tutor me with pay. I'm using APEX 3.2 with Oracle 11g database via Embedded PL/SQL Gateway (which probably is not so relevant). A brief description of the project is as follows:
Login -> Home
|
V
Form 1 -> Search, then display the items that were entered (maybe a dynamic display) based on the search criteria. Click on the item to faciliate "Update" or "Deactivate" (similar to "delete"). On the top of the page, there's a "Add" tab to facilitate insert.
Form 2 -> ......
Form 3 -> ......
The same or similar logic for the other Forms (total about 10 Forms, with Reports added later). This is some of my rough concept, the overall application flow/wrapper can be discussed, if there's other alternative or I'm not on the right track.
Please let me know PROMPTLY.
Thanks much,
Helen

Why are you repeating a prior posting you made today (Looking for APEX tutoring (with pay) in NJ - urgent - Posting the same item more than once will cause headache and issues with the folks that frequent here..
If you have a need for tutoring, as you have asked, you have been sent three viable solutions to follow (two different responders in the area willing to help for $$ and one response involving working through the tutorials on Oracles APEX page and buying one of the better APEX books.. I Would HIGHLY Recommend John E Scott's book, http://www.amazon.com/Oracle-Application-Express-Experts-Voice/dp/159059827X ..
Keep the questions coming, folks here will help when they can..

Helen,
First of all, welcome to the forums and the wonderful world of APEX development.
Before recommending anything, it would be really good to know a little bit about your background and how comfortable you are with Oracle, SQL, and PL/SQL. If you're completely new to Oracle (i.e. you've been working with EXCEL and ACCESS), I would recommend a completely different path than someone who is coming at this from a long history of Oracle Forms development, and different again form someone that has Java or other Web development experiene.
Can you help us out with some information about your programming background?
In general, I agree with Don. The 2 Day developer and Advanced Tutorial white papers will give you a good start, by letting you peek under the covers of what is possible with Application Express. There are also a couple good books that might help depending on where you're coming from and what your skill level is.
However, there is nothing like getting yourself into a learning environment that allows you to ask questions specific to what you're trying to achieve in the real world.
The company I work for ( [Sumner Technologies|www.sumnertech.com] ) also provides APEX training at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. We can provide these classes in a public forum, as private on-site classes, or we also provide instructor lead online training classes as well. We have several classes scheduled through the end of the year so check [http://www.sumnertech.com/training|http://www.sumnertech.com/training] for a list of available courses and our public/Online schedule).
What course best suits you will obviously depend on where you're starting from, but we can definitely help there.
Feel free to give us a call at (703) 879-4615. We'll be happy to help.

• No digital voice for Fios early adopters in PA

Still do not understand why I cannot get this service when it is available to new customers in my area. I was the first to switch to Fios in early 2007. I have three phone lines and two separate bills. Call Assist is limited and not working on the single line I installed it on. I am forced to switch from Verizon Iobi which is being discontined as a paid program feature.  My calls to support and request for superisors are going unanswered. There was a complete Service outage all day last Saturday. I was hoping this first time event meant they were upgrading the service for  current users. Otherwise I am a raving FIOS fan. This is really souring my experience.

Hello Gapa,
Fios Digital Voice migrations of existing accounts were placed on hold and the ability removed from systems which is why you were not getting the result you were looking for.  There is no escalation that will result in modification of the process at this time.  However this is not permanent and the process has already been engaged for 2 states.  Once PA goes live you will be notified of the option and ability to migrate at that time.
Thank you

• Thank God for the warranty...early adopters beware!

My line out made a screaching noise (at about 120db) one morning for no reason. When I rebooted I had a constant clicking noise coming from it in both OS X and Windows, so I knew the main board was probably hosed.
Took it to the Apple Store, and sure enough they had to replace the main logic board. Because I ordered my Mac Pro when they first came out, they had to replace 1) the entire case! 2)the main board 3)the memory enclosure.
Apparently they have made revisions and the new logic boards won't fit in the original cases. If this wasn't under warranty, it would have cost me $1,166.
I think the only original equipment after the repair are my 3 hard drives, my video card, processor and memory.
Apple was great, and my computer is working good as new....I just thought I would let the early adopters know what to expect.

Did you use the original Manufacture warranty or did you have the Apple Care service plan?

• Looking for a good APEX Instructor

My organization is considering an on-site APEX training seminar for our developers.
If anyone has had a good experience with a specific trainer or company, I am interested in hearing about it.

• Looking for old patch 106257-04 or earlier (Solaris 2.6)

I am looking for an older version of patch 106257-04 for solaris 2.6. This is for testing our product on solaris 2.6 with a patch level before 106257-05 (which I have).
Thanks,
Brian Walton

Hi
You're not going to find the old version of the patch your after on sunsolve, only the latest revisions seem to be available for download. You could try searching for some alternate sites which might hold copies of the old patch but I'd be disinclined to download a patch from any old site and put it on a production server.
If you've got old copies of the Sunsolve CDs you might find it on there, otherwise your going to have to use the latest revision.
If you've got a support agreement with Sun, you could try requesting it from your account manager.
regards

• Looking for some assurances that I haven't made a mistake switching to Mac.

Bought an intel-powered IMac 9 days ago and love everything about it's look, functionality, etc.. Only problem: I've had a bout of "Application has closed unexpectedly" occcurrances while using Safari (while at AOL.com deleting emails from aol account) and while editing pics in iPhoto. As this happened time and again, I got a sad, sinking feeling that I'm headed for the same frustrations that I've had w/ every Windows machine I've ever owned. Ugh!..I switched to Apple for the specific purpose of avoiding crashes!!! Apple support walked me through steps to fix (removed/updated Quicktime, and check a few other things..). They were very helpful, but... I absolutely detest having to do this. Other than Office:Mac, i've added nothing to this machine! I'm really stressed about this. I paid far more for this than I would have for a Windows machine simply because I had heard that Apple machines don't do this sort of thing!!
Please tell me that this is normal and expected with a new machine and not a harbinger of more complicated problems to come!! I'm hoping that once resolved, I won't much more of this.. On the other hand, if many of you feel that this issue is a bad omen, I'll take the machine back while I still can. ..What a pity though, it's truly been a joy to use so far.

Hi syd123! And Welcome to Discussions!
No you haven't made a mistake! You will love your Mac!
Deleting AOL Mail, crashes Safari (Consolidation)
It seems the most recent Safari, and or 10.4.4, update has created this problem.
Apple & AOL are both aware of this, but, as far as I know, no correction has been implemented.
Here are some of the work arounds, that I have been able to discern from the various posts regarding this issue.
Use the FIREFOX BROWSER.
Use your AOL Mail program.
Use this utility AOL SERVICES ASSISTANT, to set up Apple Mail, to access AOL Mail.
Access the AOL Mail thru Classic AOL Webmail.
And here are links, to the various threads, discussing this issue.

AOL Webmail and Safari on 10.4.2 crashes on delete mail
Update 10.4.4 causes crash
Safari crashes when deleting email on AOL
