[b]Getting error message in declaring char as '\u000d'[/b]

Question

Dear sir,
i recently attended a java online exam from which i got the question which is given below,
char c='\u000d';
Is this a valid declaration or not?
When i tried later. i got an error message indicating as "invalid char constant" like that...
I came to know that \u is an escape char and the char encoding is UTF-16 in java.
Can you explain why i am getting the error msg?

I don't know if this is right, but I would assume in Java if you are declaring a variable of type character, you don't need to encode it yourself. Only when you are working with files and streams and such should you need to worry about that. the Java VM should do that automatically for you.
I would say:
char ch = 'c';
and that should compile fine.
