B.T. Box - Resets, freezes, Constant Updates, etc....

The problems I have with B.T. are getting too annoying, what am I paying for? The following are a few of the problems:
Slow response from the remote control, so when you think it hasn’t registered you click it again and again, then, it catches up and does what you pressed twice or more.
T.V. box freezes so you have to reset the box which takes a few minutes at a time, which is annoying when watching live performances in particular.
Box updates itself when it wants, usually at inconvenient times, during a football match or other live performances.
When recording a programme it sometimes continues recording for hours, so later, when trying to record a different channel, it won’t because it can’t record 3 programmes at the same time.
When I was recording a series link of 8, the sixth recording, instead of recording the hour long programme I wanted, it recorded the news for half hour which wasn’t even at that time.
When trying to go back, the |< symbol, instead of going back 10 seconds it goes back to the start of when I turned to that channel.
This has mostly gone on since I’ve had the box and was rather hoping that with all these software updates I was getting that it would be put right. A couple of months ago I was talking to one of B.T. Customer (don't really) care people, and spent about 40 minutes doing a factory reset and was ASSURED that this would stop the slow response and that, “It will never happen again” but it does and is getting worse. So what I want to know is do other people have ALL these problems or is it my box and either way what will B.T. do about it? And I will not be accepting a factory reset as an answer again. I never had anything like this sort of problem when I was with Sky.<script src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/cc7e4548/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

  • Mail freezes when updating large RSS feed boxes

This is something I encountered and how I have formulated a work around. I have discovered that Mail will freeze when updating large RSS feed boxes.
A little history. After discovery RSS and how they work, I began building a collection of feeds. They included feeds from many major news providers. Over the years, the number articles form some of these sources went into the thousands.
As my database of articles grew, I encountered more severe and more frequent freezes of the application Mail. I began to take the computer off-line in order to work in these files. But inevitably, a situation would arise that would lead to the Mail application freezing.
Isolation of the issue with Mail and to the RSS boxes within Mail. The freeze would not occur when RSS feeds boxes where collapsed. Also, the freeze only affected the Mail application. Mac OS was not affected and I was able to alway close Mail from with in the Force Quit menu. Also, the Force Quit menu affirmed that Mail was indeed frozen by listing it as also "not responding."
Work around. To resolve this issue, I first choose to remove the number of RSS feed that I had subscribed to but used very infrequently. Second, I choose to delete old feeds from "never" to "every two weeks" from within the Mail preference menu (RSS sub-menu).
I think it took a while for Mail to fully delete messages older than two weeks. In fact, when I began deleting whole feeds, it took some time for those feeds to be removed from my mail box tree. Within the Activity Monitor application, I could see that a lot of disk use was occurring, even though the OS was allowing me to continue to use Mail and other applications.
To assist this process, I took my computer off-line and stepped away from it. Upon my return, the disk use was down to normal, the number of article in many RSS boxes where greatly reduced, and my disk had recovered over a GB of space. Also, Mail seems to be behaving properly, with smooth and quick performance.
If you found this article, I hope the information provided has been helpful! After a quick search in to previous posts, an entirely similar post was not found. However, others are finding the Mail application will freeze, but not necessary for the same reason.

Since I don't want to download any attachments from RSS feeds in Mail.app, is there any way to turn off the attachment download once and for all? I also get the beach ball for minutes when an item has a big attachment, and I fear my HD is cluttered with files I don't use.

Firefox constantly freezes after updating to 35.0. Anyway to revert back?

  • You View Box - keeps freezing and stops loading

I have had You View for nearly a year now with no problems.
Unfortunately over the last few weeks my You View box keeps freezing and becomes unresponsive.
The Power Up button doesn't respond by remote or by touch and the only way I can get a response from it is to turn everything off at the wall and on again.
The box is regularly updated and on the latest version. I have also performed a Software reset as requested by BT but still the same problems.
Now I can't even get You View to load, just keeps saying "Nearly ready" on the screen.
I have booked an engineer to come round and assess the situation. Apparently if it is not BT's fault I will be charged over £100?
Has anyone else had these problems? Or know of any solutions? Is this a software glitch of BT's?

Do you mean the "Reset Data" option from within the BT Player?
You could try a "factory reset, keep recordings" by following this guide:
    http://videos.youview.com/support/maintenance_mode.pdf
Just make sure to make a note of your future scheduled recordings as you will need to re-add them afterwards.

  • Clicking noise and freezing during updating

Hello everyone, if anyone could help with the following problem i'd be more than grateful. my ipod recently wouldnt connect to windows and started making a clicking noise. to try an resolve this i have reset and restored. I thought this would solve the problem. However, when ipod is updating it seems to freeze, stop updating and clicking noise starts. the following message appears
the specified I/O operation on E: was not completed before the time out period expired.
the only way i can disconnect is to shut the computer down. My playlists appear but with no songs.
this is my 2nd ipod (clicking noise also happened so ipod was replaced in warranty) which is now out of warranty. I think my hard drive might be giving up? These discussions are my last hope! Do I buy a new ipod (possibly for the same thing to happen)? or is it worth getting it serviced? Does anyone out there have any ideas?

Even i have a Ipod with a click wheel and is behaving similarly.
Once i connect it to the PC (using USB) it shows the "Do Not Disconnect" sign forever and even iTunes does not recognize it, the hard disk is making some clicking noise and after some time windows returns timeout error "The specified I/O operation on E: was not completed before the time out period expired" !!
I think we are in the same boat, What do we do ???
    Thanks

I have the 1st generation iPad.  All of a sudden it will not connect to my wi-fi.  It finds my wi-fi, but will not totally connect.  I have done everything...reset network, rebooted router etc and it still will not connect.  My other divices are connected....iPhone and 3 Macs.  Any suggestions?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Wifi on iPad freeZing after update

    wwifi keeps freezing after update.

    Hey F.hodgkiss,
Thanks for the question. The following resource outlines the basic troubleshooting steps for Wi-Fi connectivity. I have also included the steps related to the symptoms you may be experiencing:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Be sure you're in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your W-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    Tap  and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
Unable to access the Internet while connected to Wi-Fi
If you're using a public or commercial network, you may need to log in or subscribe.
Check to see if you have a self-assigned IP address:
    Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected and tap ( i ) .
If your IP address is 169.254.xxx.xxx, you may not be able to access the Internet.
If you do not have a self-assigned IP address, see if other Wi-Fi devices on your network have Internet access.
If they do not, consult with your network administrator or ISP for further assistance.
If they do, reset network settings on your device by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Cable boxes keep freezing up when surfing

Cable boxes keep freezing up when surfing, have to unplug to reset, delay in response to entries cause wrong entires i.e. enterin 212 but the two does not show so you press it again and again next thing you know you have 222212 instead of 212. COMCAST does not provide an email address for its customers to file complaints because they do not want to get them...Had to try multiple account names before I found one that was not taken...

If you look around the forum, you will find a email address to send to.  Also on the forum, you can post your issue and someone from Comcast will followup, you can do a online chat if you don't want to call.
Pretty much if you email, they will just call you back anyway so they can confirm your identity, since it's easy to spoof someone's identify to get into your Comcast account and make changes.  Identify theft runs rampant these days using email.
The Comcast team has been notified and will followup, expect a response here by tomorrow.

    Hello,
after looking for a few days for a solution to my problem which is reset freeze this is my last resort.
Recently upgraded CPU from 4770K to 4790K on MSI Z87-GD65 and I'm getting reset freeze.
Screen goes black (no signal), fans are spinning and system stays in this state.
People say to update BIOS to 1.B (1.11) which is latest one but this did not solve the problem.
After restoring default settings in BIOS system reset correctly once and then it hangs again.
It doesn't matter if the reset is from windows or linux of from BIOS after saving changes.
I was flashing BIOS from BIOS menu using M-FLASH and pendrive.
    Any suggestion are appreciated.

Thx for reply, my rig now is

and I can't test it anymore because I sold it.
    Clearing CMOS didnt help.
CPU is seated correctly I made sure of that and pins are straight, I'm very careful with that.

  • Droid X - multiple random resets, freezing issues

    Hi all,
Received my Droid X yesterday and have had nothing but issues with it.  If I make it 15 minutes without it resetting or freezing I am lucky.  There were a few periods when I saw almost an hour between resets.  This is a brand new unit, activated (prior phone is a Touch Pro 2) with no apps installed (other than what is programmed on the new phone).  I did a hard reset and also updated to 2.2 with the same issues.  It happens no matter where or what I am doing, including not doing anything at all.  I was able to grab a few apps to install but obviously there are issues so I have been in contact with VZ.
The Verizon rep was simply awesome!!!  Yes, I said awesome.  I would like to thank Jennifer (and the other reps) as she/they  have been amazing during this whole issue.  She did what she said, when she said and made sure others did as well.  I was contacted by VZ several times during the day and everybody did their best to try and get my phone up and running or find out why it was acting the way it was. The final verdict is that the phone is being exchanged as the issue has not been fixed.
We all want to receive our phones and just use them.  We do not want issues, hassles or problems.  The small minority of us that are having issues can and should be upset when the phone is not working as expected or promised.  I have every reason to be upset and PO'd but Verizon has done everything correctly so far.  I am going to give them the opportunity to fix this and I will report back when I receive and activate my replacement.

Had a few similar short system freezes, after installing Windows 8 x64 on 13” MacBook Pro Mid-2010 with BootCamp 5.0.5033.
There is a suggestion that DisableDynamicTick may fix the problem: https://discussions.apple.com/message/21565295#21565295. There were similar topics at Microsoft forums: 1, 2, 3. It was said “that this will likely reduce system battery life, so it should be undone when you update your Windows build or if it doesn't resolve your issue”, and that “this problem is resolved in the release versions of Windows 8”.
Another possibility is that there is indeed a buggy driver, within BootCamp 5.0.5033, or a 3rd party, like a wireless network driver in the following case http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/system-fr eeze-randomly-after-installing-windows-8/49488183-26cf-4389-af21-a85dc366c99a?pa ge=2#LastReply.
The problem has been noticeable on my MacBook, but not annoying enough yet to spend time troubleshooting. If you find a robust solution, using the links above or other method, it would be interesting to know.

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

    - Restore from backup. See:

If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
