B&W G3 having major issues.

Hey guys. My beloved G3 is sick. When I got it in December 2005, it was a lowly 350mhz revision 1 with a dead 40gb HD, no OS, and 128mb of RAM. I have since upgraded it into my pride and joy 450mhz Revision 2, 1gb of RAM, 120gb HD, USB 2.0 card, zip drive, superdrive, SCSI card and edu video card with video input, and Mac OS X 10.4.11, with the matching 15" LCD. It has developed a few issues as of late:
-When in open firmware, at the top of the screen, I get two lines, and they read "No Address Property Found!" same thing, twice. I tried resetting PRAM, NVRAM, hit CUDA, all that. Nothing.
-Lately, the machine will not boot up in to Mac OS 9.1 or higher. It runs classic mode just fine. I have tried several installations, both off a 9.0.4 disc, and a 9.2.2 CD (has 9.2.1 install and the 9.2.2 updater). However, the 9.2.2 disc does not boot, because it's 9.1+. What it will do is the screen will flicker, and I get the mouse pointer, but it does not go any further. No splash screen, and the mouse pointer is frozen. Again, I have tried all the tricks. I even stripped the hardware down to bone stock, but it makes no difference. This is odd, because for 6 months, in 2006, I was running Mac OS 9.2.2 as a primary OS for 6 months straight, without a hiccup, and not a crash.
-My latest, and most annoying problem, is OS X is starting to mess up big time. It seems to be producing more unresponsive applications, forcing me to force quit them. This started with only Safari, but now it is happening to almost every program I use regularly. I have ran every utility I can find, onyx, diskwarrior, and Disk Utility off the installer. All report the HD is fine, which makes sense, since it's not even 2 years old. I even performed a clean install, which did not fix it. My next step is to go buy an external hard drive (something I have been wanting to invest in for a long time), and CCC the hard drive, and then format the 120gb, and move everything back over. I have about 95gb of irrreplaceable data, and only about 80% of that is duplicated on my iBook's 80gb HD.
So, what would make this work? I have 2 more B&W towers, which I plan on using for parts anyways, and I think both are Revision 2s, so if I need to do a lobo swap, I can.

Alright well, I wiped the drive clean, and I tried installing 9 again with everything unplugged. I started with 9.0.4 and updated from there. It works. It's not running Mac OS 9.2.2, and best of all, all my devices are plugged in without a hitch.
But now I have another minor issue. My DVD burner can boot CDs just fine, but for some reason, when I have the ZIP 100 drive (the official apple IDE one) plugged in as slave, the optical drive won't boot. It works just fine when booted, reading and writing. I have tried every possible jumper setting, except one on the zip drive called Cable Select A. I also tried putting the optical in CS mode, as well as trying several different cables. The only two things I have not tried is the ZIP with another drive (I have 2 other machines with the bone stock CD-ROM that I can try), or try another ZIP drive. I have 2 other Apple zips from the other B&Ws, as well as a Iomega beige one labeled as a compaq part, but it works. I used that one before I got the parts for the official ZIP drive.
I am also curious as to how I am to restore user accounts in OS X. I did have tiger on there last night before I tried 9, and I tried pulling the account folders off the backup and putting them in /Users and rebooting, but that did not work. Unless I just make the accounts again, and drag over the personal data into them, but that seems like extra work.
Yes I know, I can't believe I am using the B&W as my primary machine either. I plan to keep using it until the last Tiger update, and even then I might keep it around as a server or something.

I have created a navigation system on the master pages and set the presentation to links only mode. I also have other links scattered throughout the program, like a linkable table of contents, etc. Some of them work, some of them don't. Not sure why. Anyone out there having similar issues? Or have any idea on how I can solve this issue? Any help would be appreciated!

Links should not create any problems in Keynote. If they are set up correctly on text, the text will be underlined. Objects that have links will have a curved arrow bottom right, if you click the arrow a popup will display the link information.
Try this repair for Keynote, ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:

delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote, using Appcleaner from Mac Update, its a freeware application

empty the trash: Finder > Empty Trash

Shut down your Mac, wait 30 seconds, then power on the Mac, immediately after the start chime, hold down the Shift key
When you see the grey Apple symbol and progress indicator (a spinning gear), release the Shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, then hold down the Shift key again as you click Log in.

Let the Mac fully boot up, it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive

when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive then First Aid tab and click repair disc permissions

when complete, restart the Mac normally, Apple menu > Restart

Having major issues with InDesign CS6

Having major issues with InDesign CS6. Not only is it crashing, but it is corrupting the existing file. Then when I relaunch, it is not allowing me to open the file again.
In another instance, yesterday I opened an file created 3 months ago and it allowed me to make changes, however I could not save them to the existing file, or not even to a new name.
I had to copy each layer on each page to create a new document. NOT GOOD!!!

Yes, I would certainly get the latest update. That we often solve issues like these, for this is not normal. Some further tips would be quite InDesign, then to trash your InDesign preferences and then re-start InDesign (it will rebuild them again). Some further areas to look into would be:
* Corrupt Font(s) (or corrupt font caches - see below)
* Corrupt Image(s)
* Power Failures (power surges)
* Placing images via drag-and-drop from an Internet page
* Working on an InDesign file over a network or on a remote server

Anyone else having major issues with 1.1.4?

So I updated to Firmware 1.1.4 a day or two after it came out and I've been having major issues. This is on a phone purchased on launch day that has not been jailbrokened or hacked in anyway.
Battery life...when the phone actually works, is down drastically. I went from 2.5 days with Bluetooth and Wi-fi on to about 12 hours at one time.
Wi-fi...when it works, just cuts in and out even when the signal should be all full strength.
Clock...even though it is set to sync with network time, can be accurate one minute and lags behind as much as 15 minutes.
I've done numerous restores, both from a backup file and setting the phone up as a new phone. Nothing seems to fix the problem so far. Has anyone else run into these issues and/or know of how to fix it.
I was contemplating downgrading the firmware to 1.1.3, but I don't believe there is an official way to do it.
Any input would be appreciated.

I have exactly the same issues, After the Update the sound quality of my calls dropped drastically! I tought first I got a cold or something like that...but it was not I cannot hear as clearly as I used to before and increasing the volume does not solve anything!
I also noticed that trsitionning from an application to another and especially using the home button to got to home page is getting slower. I need more time to lose safari and go to emails than before.
My Memory usage is exactly the same as I havent added anything to my library or so. Aroud 3.5 GB free.
Anyone with same symptoms?

To get the iPod in recovery mode and DFU mode you first have to turn the iPod off.
Just what is the problem you are tying to resolve?
Sometimes you have to let the battery fully drain if you can't turn the iPod off. After charging for at least hour try again.

Why am I NOW having major issues watching YouTube videos using WiFi vs Ethernet?

Why am I having major issues watching YouTube videos when the cable modem is connected to Airport Extreme, but they work flawlessly if my computer is connected directly to the modem? Comcast is the internet provider. 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo is the iMac. Getting the dreaded "This video is currently unavailable" OR "An error occurred. Please try again later." I swap back and forth... it's unbelievable. Videos that give errors over WiFi play fine when hooked up via ethernet.

If your wireless connection is slow, video streaming will stutter or fail completely. The wireless connection can be slow if there are other wireless networks in your area, all competing for the same limited number of wireless channels.
If you have a fairly new Extreme, you can use 5 GHz. Your iMac is capable of using it, and this will mitigate the effects of wireless interference.
Keep one thing in mind - if in the course of troubleshooting you have been routinely disconnecting and reconnecting your Extreme and the iMac to your modem - "swapping back and forth" as you described - be sure to power down the modem first. Most cable modems will refuse to communicate with a different device, until after you reset it by powering it down. If you want to compare wired speeds to wireless, connect your iMac to one of the Extreme's LAN ports instead, and turn off the iMac's wireless in its WiFi menu. Its speed should be nearly identical to that you will have by connecting it directly to the modem. Swapping connections in this manner does not require a power down cycle.

I am having major issues with Logic 8 and want to reinstall.

I am having a lot of issues with Logic 8 and want to do a re-install. What is the procedure and what do I need to uninstall first. I need to be careful, because I don't want to affect my Logic 7.

What problems?
The first thing to do is trash the preferences. As far as affecting Logic 7, once you install 8, 7 is "forgotten" about. I'm assuming your L8 is a real version, not a "borrowed from the interweb" one.

I'm having major issues with battery life on my iphone 5 . When I'm on 3G my battery on lat 6 hours . But when I'm on edge network I get almost 8 hours usage and full day stand by . That's a. Major difference. But these phones were built for 3G and LTE .

The battery only last 6hrs complete with basic normal usage . I tried all the suggestions and nothing was helping. I finally tried switching off the 3G to EDGE and what a major difference in battery life . My phones last more than a day . I got so far 8 hrs usages And 25 hours standby . But that's phones were created to handle lte and 3 g why is it killing the battery life ?? How can I resolve this issue ?

Thanks for the replies. It took a while not hearing anything so thought I was alone. I have done many of the suggestions already. The key here is that it occurs on both phones with apps, and phones still packaged in a box.
A Genius Bar supervisor also checked his Verizon data usage log and found the same 6 hour incremental use. Suprisingly, he did not express much intrigue over that. Maybe he did, but did not show it.
I think the 6 hour incremental usage is the main issue here. I spoke with Verizon (again) and they confirmed that all they do is log exactly when the phone connected to the tower and used data. The time it records is when the usage started. I also found out that the time recorded is GMT.
What is using data, unsolicited, every 6 hours?

Since no one from Apple seems to be chiming in on this, and I have not received the promised calls from Apple tech support that the Genius Bar staff said I was suppose to receive, it is starting to feel like something is being swept under the rug.
I woke up the other day with another thought ... What application would use such large amounts of data? Well ... music, video, sound and pictures of course. Well ... what would someone set automatically that is of any use to them? hmmm ... video, pictures, sound. Is the iPhone 5 succeptible to snooping? Can an app be buried in the IOS that automatically turns on video and sound recording, and send it somewhere ... every 6 hours? Chilling. I noted that the smallest data usage is during the night when nothing is going on, then it peaks during the day. The Genius Bar tech and I looked at each other when I drew this sine wave graph on the log print outs during an appointment ...

I'm having major issues and I'm fed up!

I got a nano in July, and I use it ONLY to listen to audio book. This is an issue in itself. If a book isn't available at the itunes store (I get books from the library) I can not get info on it, and the only way to listen to it is through recently added since the music library loads them as track 1 track 1 track 1 track 2 track 2 (etc.) Can you imagine how annoying this is??
Anyway, my newest issue is that somehow my recently added setting on my ipod disappeared. So I look under my ipod music setting and it's been unticked! When I try to update it, it will not go back onto my ipod. So all my tracks are shuffled! This is even more majorly annoying!! Then every time I try to do any changes to my ipod, the itunes program starts telling me that there is not enough space, I have too many playlists! Wait, just before I did the update I had 50 mgs free. Now I have nothing? So I unchecked all 248 tracks of my 14 disc audio book. Nothing changes, still tells me there is no space available. Ah, but now I've finally got recently added back on my ipod! Unfortunately, there's not a single track on my ipod. But the itunes program keeps telling me there's no free space...do you get the picture here? Now I can't get anything to upload onto the darn ipod.
I'm at a loss as to what I should do next (besides throwing it out the window into my pool, which is what I feel like doing). The ipod is not audio book friendly at all, oh, unless you purchase the book in the itunes store! What a rip, I wish the sales person had told me what a pain it would be to listen to my beloved books, I never would have bought the stupid thing.
Needless to say, after writing this book, any help would be greatly appreciated. If this ipod is caput I will not be replacing it. I'll by a generic mp3 player and download books from the library (oh yea, apple format is not supported by the library, if I'd known that I also would not have bought the ipod).
Nano 1.3 itunes 7 Windows XP

Well, no one seems to have any answers or ideas for me, I'll update what I've been able to accomplish.
I reloaded all 14 disks in the time frame of watching Lord of the Rings on Fri. nite.
Funny thing is, the first disk pulled the info from the online store! Hooray!
Wait-then all the next 13 could find no information online...what the heck is up with that? So I MANUALLY assign each disk a new track # to co-inside with each disk, spent about 2 hours doing that.
But still, itunes tells me my playlist is too large, there's not enough space on the ipod. so I unchecked 1 1/2 disks (I'd listen to 1/2 of disk 1 previously) and voila! there's my ipod full of my book. Finally. But what a lot of bother just to keep things in order!

I need help re-installing my OS on a new hard drive. Having MAJOR issues with this simple task.

I have a MacBook Pro 15" (mid 2009) I recently needed to get a new hard drive for it, the old one stopped working. It came with OS X Snow Leopard already installed from Apple, and it also came with the install disks. I have booted up using the install disks and put OS X Snow Leopard back on the computer.
I tried booting with a USB install disk of OS X Lion (10.7) but had no luck on multiple occasions. It would only get through the initial step of the install and then say it couldn't download additional components needed for OS X
So finally, I decided to try a full erase and reformat of my brand new hard drive (less than a week old) and stated with the basic software that came with the computer. Installing that worked fine, until I tried to do a software update through the built in program. My computer refused to download 10.6.8 from the apple servers, so I had to find it on a 3rd party website. Once I found it and downloaded it, I finally got it installed. There were 12 more updates after I did 10.6.8 and none of them worked when I tried downloading and installing as a group. I had to do each one individually, the last one being a security update.
Up to this point, the Mac App Store didn't work (even after the 10.6.8 update), I couldn't download any of my previous purchases. I needed to download lion, to see if having it on the Mac hard drive itself would help with the install, but I couldn't do that until after the security update.
Other than that, the Mac worked normally except for during each start up, the apple logo would flash along with the forbidden sign and the folder with a question mark on it. It flashed for a few seconds randomly, then would boot up normally or say that my computer would need to be restarted.i figured this issue would be fixed after I successfully installed lion.
FINALLY I got the App Store to download lion, and began the install process. Halfway through the install, it failed and when I tried to restart the computer, it continuously flashes through those three symbols at startup. I can't get it to do anything else. I'm so ****** off I'm ready to just sell it for parts.
My questions are:
      1. Can I install OS X Lion OR OS X Mountain Lion clean from the start after a full format of the hard drive?
      2. How do I go about installing clean and get my computer to stop flashing those symbols during start up?
*I have performed the Apple Hardware extended test and all systems are reporting normal function*

Okay, so, fast forward from July to now -
- I've visited my closest Apple store's genius bar twice now. (Over an hour and a half away.)
- My computer spent at least 8 hours behind their closed doors in the workshop
- Several complete erases of the harddrive have taken place
- Most of the Apple geniuses I dealt with were nice and very knowledgeable, but they were and still aren't 100% sure exactly what is wrong with my computer.
The good news is:
- They were able to at least get it running again, with a clean install from their servers of OS X Lion 10.7.5
- They believe that my problems stem from either 1 of 2 things:
        - Faulty Hard Drive (even though it is brand new)
         - The wrong build of software being installed.
Now, while the wrong build does seem like it could be the problem, it doesn't make sense in the aspect that all of the initial problems began when the first hard drive failed. The same problems continued when I changed out the failed hard drive with the brand spanking new one, and only slightly improved when I was able to successfully install the OS that came with the original disks for my computer. I'm not convinced this thing is back to normal, but hopefully I can make it last through getting a shiny new retina Macbook Pro in the coming future. Having major issues with Adobe Media Encoder (AME) - exporting with weird image flickering/colour anomalies, crashing regularly, freezing during encode...!

Hi Guys
I am having some real issues with Adobe Media Encoder (AME) at the moment. It appears that I am unable to encode an h.264 for Vimeo from a Premiere Pro Project file at the moment without at least some weird image issues that are not supposed to be there. These include weird flickering, colour changes, artefacts etc. This is if I am lucky...often I am unable to get the process to complete as the application either crashes and tells me there has been a problem or it simply freezes and I have to force quit the application and often restart my machine.
The problem seems to not to just be with h.264 for the web encodes but also with BluRay h.264 as well. As yet I haven't seen if there is a problem with MPEG-2 for DVD so I will check this out too!
Does anyone else see this happening or does anyone know what might be the problem?
I thought the Premiere Pro project might have been corrupt so tried a different project but the same issues were happening here too.
Any help would be really gratefully received.

Agreed, I now have a project to GET OUT, and AME crashes consistently 1/3 into the render. It appears to halt all processing after (real time) 00:02:30
Am seriously considering uninstalling CC as I am beginning to find other issues in some apps, and going back to CS6/MC just so I can get work out. Durn it Adobe this is AWFUL!!
Alright, let's try to be constructive instead of throwing rocks... but the frustration level is high, and I have material on deadline. Let's get with this, guys...

What version of AME/PPro (Please be specific by getting the full version number in the About Adobe Media Encoder screen) 8.2.0.54 Ppro: 8.2.0 (65)
When is it crashing (Again, the more detail here about where it was in the encoding process the better) roughly 1/3 into the sequence, always on exactly the same frame - tried replacing the clip with something different to see if it was a timeline error, and NO EFFECT.
What is your source (PPro project or media file (what kind?)) PPro
If the source if a PPro project, does it work when exporting directly from PPro? NO
What format are you exporting to? H.264, QT, WM, tried everything my client can play.
Do other formats work? MPEG2, QuickTime, etc? NO
Have you tried with GPU rendering on? How about turning it off by switching to Software-only mode? Mine doesn't have any choice, it's software-only.
Have you tried disabling Native Sequence Loading? (AME Preferences: General > Enable Native Sequence Loading) No effect
Other things I tried: uninstalling/reinstalling AME, setting cache to a fast local disk.

For the last month or so I have been having issues with Firefox crashing whenever I click on anything to do with Facebook. Also, since I downloaded Firefox I have been having major issues with Adobe . Any ideas??

I try to click on the games or other users names or anything that opens another link and it crashes. This has been happening off and on for about a month but has gotten regular in the last 4 or 5 days. Anybody have any ideas?? Also, it seems that Firefox has affected Adobe. I am having lots of issues in the last few weeks but when I use Windows I'm OK????

i have the same problem with the above..firefox is running too slow with the games in facebook..but it runs good when browsing my updates, msgs, photos...firefox is totally opposite of IE..IE is faster with the games and slow while browsing..i love to use mozila but when i do games it really pisses me off...hope you could help me..

Who else is having MAJOR issues with their Droid DNA post 4.4 (KitKat) update??

I usually don't complain or post much about my phone because problems are generally quickly fixed, but this update is just ridiculous. After updating to KitKat, my phone has the following problems:
1. Text Messages - I constantly get text message errors. Always get the error that my message is not able to be sent. I have two problems with this. First, I get the error that the message was not able to be sent, but the recipient tells me they get mass spammed the same message 3+ times. Second, sometimes the recipient does not receive the message and it never goes through.
2. Network connection - Since the update, my phone usually does NOT have any type of connection whatsoever. The status bar shows I have 3G or 4G, but when I go to the internet app or try to use any form of data, I get the No data connection/no network connection error. Also, many times I am unable to receive/place calls.
2. Battery Life - significantly reduced battery life. This is not too big a deal because I'm assuming the new Android version takes more battery power. I can stomach this.
Please assist me with this as soon as possible. I'd hate to have to drop Verizon for such a silly issue.

I'm sorrry to hear you're having so many issues with your Droid DNA after your update pl124. I can understand the frustrations you're experiencing but we are here to help. Have you performed any trouble shooting steps with us regarding the issues you're having? Although I'm unable to fix any of the functionality changes caused by the update, I can help with the issues. Are you using a 3rd party messaging app? If so, its always a good idea to temporarily remove it to see if its causing an issue. We also recommend safe mode, which disables all apps and allows you the opportunity to readd them one at a time to see if that particular one is causing an issue. Additionally, if you're having issues with missed calls and text, we also recommend a SIM card pull to reconnect your phone back to the towers. Just like rebooting a computer down completely and back up. Where are you located (zipcode)? Are issues with calls and text occuring inside or outside our home? There may be an issue in the area. The great thing is you always have the chance to download apps from the app store to help with personalization for your ringtones, wallpapers, graphics, and minor functionalities. I know its upsetting to have so many changes after personalizing your phone but we hope the software gave you some benefits. If you continue to have problems, a hard reset is the last step that can usually correct minor issues but will also require a complete reset back to factory settings. Keep us posted and let us know if the phone gets better with some of the steps above. We want you to love your phone again and only change devices because you are ready for the latest and greatest and not because of issues.
