B & W Photos Import in Color

Question

I am importing RAW photos from my Lumix DMC-LX3. Some of the photos I shot in black and white. These photos show as such in the import viewer, but after import they appear in Aperture as color photos with a yellowish-green cast. Why is this happening and how do I maintain the black and white settings of these photos? Thank you.

Interesting -- if academic ... the sensors have no ability to see or measure color as a phenomenon. Our brains colorize the world we construct from the data obtained by our biological stimulus-measuring devices. In order to make the data captured by our cameras look like our brain-colorized expectation, the light is actually filtered -- yes, by colored filters, which screen out every color but color-X -- before the sensors record its intensity. The sensors record only luminosity. The color is fudged -- exquisitely, and perhaps with highly-refined fidelity -- before the light strikes the sensors.

Please note that this does not change the good points in this thread: converted RAW files always produce color images; camera-created JPG files are always a subset of the data saved in a RAW file; grayscale images made from a converted RAW file are reversible, more adjustable, and almost always better than the grayscale JPGs produced in cameras.
