B540P Display brightness not adjustable

Hello,
i have just bought the Lenovo B540P VDZ9EGE (i5, GT650M, Windows 8 64bit)) and i have a problem. I can not change the screen brightness, neither with touch on the button of the screen, nor in Windows 8. In Windows 8 it says: not available and I can not click on it. The screen brightness is always on the highest setting I think.  It would be nice, if you could help me. Thank you very much. I apologize for my english.

hi BK86,
 If you have the IdeaCentre™ B540p (3363) with the NVIDIA® GeForce® GT650M, can you try to :
1. Update the display driver to GeForce 314.07 DriverVersion 314.07 - WHQL from the nvidia website.
2. Run Windows Update to get the latest patch and bug fixes.
After doing the steps above, try to press the brightness Up or Down button on the LCD panel
Spoiler (Highlight to read)
Hope this helps.

  • 2 year old 30" Cinama HD Apple display, brightness not adjusting properly..

My monitor has been off for about a week and a half and now this morning it is dark and the brightness control won't stay up where it should be, it keeps sliding back down. Anyone experience this before? What should I do? The screen is so dark...

Working now, guess it just needed to warm up after the long holiday break.

  • Brightness not adjustable in Windows 8.1 Sony Vaio (formerly sleep issue)

AAAAAARGH. Whenever I hear the word VAIO my blood pressure rises. Model: VPCYB13KX/P (P=Pink) but the problem seems to be a universal oneMajor problems: cannot change brightness at all, closing the lid puts computer in non-responsive but 100% CPU state (judging by the CPU cooler fan turning on to max and enough heat radiating from the base of the laptop to fry an egg)OS: Windows 8.1 upgraded from a clean install of Windows 8 64 bit So, in my case I clean installed Windows 8 followed by 8.1. Vaio "care" (if that's what you want to call it) and all the ancillary junk was installed as well (much of it removed in trouble shooting). Before I did trouble shooting I had four major problems:1 FN keys (F5/F6) did not adjust brightness at all (still broken, and officially broken for the VPCYB series according to http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/support-info.pl?info_id=1380)2 FN keys (F3/F4) did not adjust sound (fixed, not sure when)3 Brightness could not be changed AT ALL (broken, fixed and now broken again by solution to sleep problem)4 Closing the laptop's lid would cause the computer to go into a "frozen" but active state out of which it couldn't be woken up (fixed by steps at end of post)5 Complaint during boot about missing file (see http://community.sony.com/t5/Windows-8/iolorgdf32-program-can-not-be-found-Skipping-Autocheck/td-p/161333 for someone else's description of problem) (not fixed; not bothered to try... seems like a minor problem compared to everything else)6 mf110u DLL missing dialogue box upon startup (see http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_update/mfc110udll-missing-windows-8-pro-updates-wont/9596536f-a405-4b1e-b8cf-b06e28b7fea4?msgId=28e1af2b-d536-4258-aea2-a1155cc6464b) (fixed) Re: 3 brightness. Before the sleep fix (billed as a brightness fix) was applied I was able to adjust brightness using the Windows brightness controls (one in the new interface and one in the desktop/traditional interface). Now I can't. Re: 5 and 6 My guess is that #5 and #6 have to do with the Vaio Care software (which seems to be someone else's software repackaged?). This laptop has been a support headache from day one, even under the 'clean' OEM Windows 7 Home Premium with Vaio drivers and software being the culprits 95% of the time (terrible QAQC). Until very recently I had problems with the wifi cutting out daily in Windows 7 Home Premium (only fixed when I clean installed Ultimate and used non-Sony driver for wifi... I should've stuck with 7 Ultimate and not boethered with 8). What others have been told would correct their brightness problem fixed my sleep problem (I can close the lid now) but it broke my brightness adjustment ability. I'm now stuck at 100% no matter what I do. PS These are the instructions for how to fix the brightness problem (and, to reiterate, it broke my brightness solution but fixed my sleep problem): 1.Launch Task Manager
    2.Terminate two tasks
    •esrv.exe
    •esrv_svc.exe
    3.Delete “sony_acpi_battery_input.dll” Under “C:\Program Files\Sony\VAIO Care\ESRV\sony_acpi_battery_input.dll”
4.Restart PC So, if anyone has a suggestion about how to get brightness working without breaking sleep please let me know. If I don't have any success fixing this I'm simply going to downgrade the laptop to Windows 7 Ultimate again and transfer my Windows 8 licence to my home built desktop machine (I was going to pick up a second licence but maybe I won't bother since I'll only need one).

I did try that IIRC but no luck. I've simply given up and gone back to Windows 7 because I don't have the luxury of devoting time to re-installing software when I've got toddlers screaming for my attention and work taking up the rest of my time. I haven't installed a single piece of Sony software on my Windows 7 install and so far only two things were not working: brightness control and a broken wifi driver. I fixed the driver (Sony doesn't provide a fix for the faulty wifi driver for the VPCYB13KX, nor does Microsoft) by installing a driver from the web (care of Atheros.cz). And, i haven't bothered to go after the brightness control because it's not as pressing an issue as the faulty wifi driver. Plus, I don't have any of the Sony bloatware slowing things down (installing an SSD at the same time may have had something to do with the speed up ;-). Plus, in many ways going back to Windows 7  simplifies my life big time since it is a computer that's being used by two people and Windows 8.1 makes accomodating the work flow of two separate people in one account difficult. Tangent... And, it means that at least one computer isn't subject to the prying eyes of Microsoft Live. I am becoming really leery of the amount of information that private companies (which means there is zero transparency) are able to collect and sell about private individuals through Windows 8.1, Mac OS X 10.9 and Google OS. If you happen to allow the wrong settings these OSes are able to track and store phenomenal levels of personal information (which police would never be able to find out about you without a warrant, let alone store in perpetuity). And, who knows if these OSes even honour your opt-outs. Or, if through coding errors they still continue to collect the data anyway.

    the brightness control donot work

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP 15-r014tx Notebook and issues with not being able to adjust the brightness levels. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system  that might need updating. As this could cause the slider Brightness bar missing from the Notebook. If that does not help try in the Device Manager.Select the Display Adapters in the list on the center of your screen.
Right click on the driver and select the option to update the drivers. Restart the Notebook and check the option control. I hope something here helps you out. Thanks.

I'm starting to think my the card is some how been damaged
    I am inclined to agree.
You will need to look on eBay for a Mac compatible graphics card.
Retail sites that have Mac compatible cards are few, and they are scary expensive.
Besides, no one makes new cards any more. All OEM cards are used.
Here's how G5 options stack up:
    http://www.jcsenterprises.com/Japamacs_Page/Blog/4B4B7BA2-7ABB-47F1-87AC-B03D379 42BEE.html
On eBay, the same Apple OEM 9600 runs about $150.
Mac compatible Radeon 9800 Pro cards run from $100.
An OEM Geforce 6800 GT or Ultra is over $200.

  • Automatic display brightness not working on 2012 Air?

I have a 2008 aluminum MacBook which I bought on day zero. The automatic screen brightness on it works perfectly. When I am in a dark room, the brightness goes down significantly, so I am not blinded. When I am in a bright room, the brightness goes up. The keyboard backlighting is equally consistent and works great. It's all worked perfectly for the past four years.
I now have a 2012 Air and the automatic brightness doesn't seem to work as well. It barely seems to change the brightness. I use it in a pitch black room and the brightness goes down a bit, but no where near as low as on my MacBook. I have to manually turn it down further. Another example: I had it turned down last night, but right now, typing in a sunny room, the brightness has barely raised (when I push the brightness button, it shows it at four bars).
I never notice the keyboard backlight change. It also never seems to turn off, even when I am in direct sunlight. On my MacBook, it turns off in bright light.
I know the sensor is working, at least partly, because if I am in a bright room, I can cover the sensor with my finger and the screen dims a little.
Is this the expected behaviour? Does the keyboard backlighting never turn off automatically? Is your screen dimming enough in the dark? I literally never, ever, had the need to manually adjust my screen or keyboard brightness on my MacBook. On this new Air, the automatic brightness may as well be disabled, since it barely seems to do anything.

I think I have discovered the problem. The system remembers where you have manually set the brightness, and tries to stay around that level even when moving from bright to dark rooms.
I manually set the brightness to 5/8, waited a minute, then went outside in the sun. As expected, it adjusted to max. However, when I came back inside and sat down, it only went down to 5/8 again. I guess earlier when it was going down to 3/8, it was just trying to get back to my manual setting (I had set it to 3/8 this morning while in my dark bedroom). Even if I completely cover the sensor, the brightness now only goes down to about 4/8.
On the MacBook, it used the full range of brightness and completely ignored any previous manual settings. I could use the automatic feature to completely control the brightness at all times. Now, with the Air, the automatic feature instead tries to maintain the user-selected brightness level as much as possible.
I'm not sure which style I prefer. I did like not having to ever touch the brightness buttons, although I admit it was occasionally too dim in certain situations. I would prefer that the Air dim much more when in completely dark rooms, and maybe the sensitivity of the sensor should be increased a bit.
Now the only issue is how the keyboard backlight seems to stay on in all conditions except in the sun! It is on now even though it is obviously bright enough in the room to read a paperback book, let alone a keyboard.

  • T440 Display Brightness Not Working

After the first time I put my piece of crap T440 to sleep, the keyboard keys for changing screen brightness stop working - no effect, & no on-screen desplay. Given the generally horrible feature set of this machine, I am not too surprised. I downloade & installed the power management program, the pm driver, the on-screen display driver, and a box of chocolates. Anybody got any ideas?

My screen display is not adjusting when I turn the phone sideways anymore.  Any ideas?

You may have accidentally turned on Orientation Lock.  From the home screen slide your finger upward to open the control center.  Look at the circular icon at the top right.  If it is white, they orientation is locked.  Tap it to unlock.

  • MacBook display brightness will not adjust

My MacBook display brightness is very low level, the F1 and F2 brightness keys bring up the transparent window and show brightness turned all the way down, but F2 does not increase the brightness. In Preferences, the display section shows the Brightness slider all the way to the top, and if I attempt to slide that down it snaps back to the top, and the actual screen brightness does not change from very low. I also have verified that the function keys are NOT set to lock out the brightness function, so pressing command and F1/F2 does nothing. So nothing from previous forums seems to apply! All other function keys operate properly (multi-window, volume, dashboard).

OK guys, think I found a solution to this one.
My girlfriend's mac had the same problem as yours, and I was motivated to fix it becuase I needed to use my mac for my dissertation and she kept stealing it!
anyway, turn the brightness all the way down, press it up once and you will see the screen flash. do it again, really fast up and down up and down and the scree will stay on as long as you keep playing with the buttons.
next, use this temporary fix to get into system preferences -> displays... and change the resolution to something considerably lower. then it stays on permanently. Not too sure about why this happens, maybe the mac can no longer handle that many colours or complexities?
    sod it. enjoy.

  • The display brightness on my macbook pro is not working

I just bought a macbook pro in June and the display brightness keys are not working, nor is there a scale I can find in the system preferences to adjust the lighting level across the screen. Why is that and how do I fix it?

Go to System Preferences>Displays. You can adjust brightness there. Also make sure that the "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as function keys" are unchecked in the Keyboard preferences.

  • Cannot adjust display brightness via F-keys nor Preferences

After updating Mavericks to 10.9.4, I cannot adjust the display brightness. Using the F1-2 keys will show the brightness icon that usually pops up. However, it's stuck and nothing happens when I press either F1 or F2 (the brightness keys).
I tried going into Preferences and adjust the brightness from there. "Automatically adjust brightness" is not checked and when I drag the slider, it slides back to where it initially was.
How can I fix this problem?
    Thank you in advance,
    Filip
