B590 - intermittent static in display

A friend bought her B590 Essentials laptop this past April (2013), and over the succeeding months, she's told me that intermittently (only twice in the past eight months that she's owned it) the screen will get 'static-y' or 'snowy' like an old TV... She says it almost appears as though the screen appears to have letter and/or numbers streaming across the screen at a high rate of speed...  It doesn't 'last' very long and the laptop does not appear to have any other 'issues', but since this is still under warranty, and if this is going to deteriorate further, I'd like to understand what is happening and get this servcied or replaced ASAP.  It was MY suggestion she buy this laptop so I feel a bit 'responsible' for this...
It almost sounded like 'electrical interference', possibly, but could this possibly be casued by a device driver...?
I don't think I've ever seen this type of display problem so I'm sort of "grasping at straws" here....  anyone have any input?

hi billzinn,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Is the system running Windows 8?
      This you can try
1.   This works with Windows 7 to 8.1, Disable the Adaptive Brightness, This somehow can cause like sudden change in display properties depending on Outside light to match the light.
http://windows7themes.net/auto-brightness-turn-adaptive-brightness-on-or-off-in-windows-8-via-cp.htm...
2.  Uninstall the Display Driver and Reinstall it.
          Uninstall:
Open Device Manager and look for Display adapter, Rightclick on Intel HD Graphics and choose uninstall.
Place a check on delete driver software for this device.
          Reinstall:
Download the driver back depending on your operating system (WIndows version)
Windows 7 64bit
 Intel Display Driver
Windows 8
 Intel Display Driver
Windows 8.1
 Intel Display Driver
After the installation, Observe the computer if it will show the same problem.
If Yes I suggest you call Technical Support Right away and have the issue reported,
Hope this helps

  • Intermittent static on external monitor with MacBook Pro

I have a MBP (mid-2009) and added an Acer external monitor last year.  When I plug the monitor in or the computer wakes for sleep I often get this intermittent static; the monitor alternates between displaying correctly and displaying static.  The period between static can change...one time when I plugin the external monitor it can be 20 seconds and the next time I plug it in it might be 2 seconds between static and regular display.
I can't imagine I'm the only one that has this issue.  I've searched endlessly but haven't found anyone else with the same specific problem.  Hopefully there's a solution.
Something that's extra quirky is that I run any number of programs on a daily basis including stock brokerage application(Java based), browsers, programming applications, etc. but none of them triggers this behavior EXCEPT iTunes.  Not sure if that helps but maybe it does.
Any help is greatly appreciated.  I figured I've wasted an hour or more of my life plugging and unplugging the monitor cable trying to get it to run without the static so it was time to ask for help!
Here's a link to a video...I figured this would make it easy to understand the issue.  http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=11al7yv%3E&s=8#.U3bfpFhdVK4

  • Loud Intermittent Static on iPhone

For the last couple of months, my phone has been giving off loud, intermittent static during phone calls.  I do not hear it, but the person on the other line says it is so loud that they have to put down the phone.  It seems to only happen when I am calling to a specific person who is located in another state (I am in Washington State calling California), but it happens whether they are on their cell phone, home phone or work phone.  It does not seem to happen with anyone else, but then again, I am not on the phone as frequently with other people.  The phone calls are business related, so I am very keen to get this issue resolved.
I have an iPhone 5 and am on iOS 7.0.4 (which is the most up-to-date).  I am not very technically minded, but any help would be appreciated.  Has anyone else ever experienced this issue?

Pleeeeeeeeease delete me, let me go.

  • Intermittent static feedback on PMG5

    Hi All
I have a PM G5 DC which has been running fine until I turned it on today - now I am hearing intermittent 'static noise' coming through the speakers on the line out socket on the back of the box. It sounds like radio static - i hear it for 3 seconds, then silence for 3 seconds, then noise for 3 seconds again and so on. It seems only to be connected to this port - I don't hear the noise if my speakers are connected via usb, or if i use headphones on the front panel, but i do hear the noise if i plug my headphones in to the line out on the back. I also hear the noise if the computer audio out is set to usb but the speakers are still connected to the line out.
Seems to happen independently of hard drive working.
    Anyone any ideas?
    TIA
    Simon

  • Strange Intermittent Static Line

This one is a bit hard to describe and I haven't seen anyone else report it...so here goes. I've had my Late 08 MBP for two days now and i've had this problem occur about 3-4 times.
What happens is that a horizontal line "break", or disruption occurs near the bottom third of the screen. But it is more towards the left side and is about five inches in length I'm aware of the issue when scrolling in Safari, and that is not what i'm talking about it. This is more like a very thin line of static that occurs and only appears for a second or so.
I'm worried that I may have a bad graphics card or a problem that is only showing up every so often, but may turn into something a lot worse months down the road. I know this may sound vague, but i'm not sure how else to describe it. Has anyone heard of this sort of thing before???

I just finished swapping my unibody MacBook Pro's hard drive into my old MBP. (Gotta love how OS X just works when you do a HDD swap.) I left my unibody MBP with the Genius Bar so they can replace its logic board. I selfishly hope now that it was just a logic board problem, and not a driver issue with the 9400M integrated graphics. The intermittent, less-than-a-second graphics glitches 1/3 from the bottom center, and toward the upper left corner of the display did not occur when I switched to the 9600M discrete GPU.
I've been using my MBP's 9400M on a regular basis since Sunday night. (I dropped it off at the Apple Store the night before Thanksgiving, and they called to let me know it was ready on Black Friday!) So far, so good. I haven't noticed a recurrence of the video glitches with the 9400M. My only complaint is that whoever replaced the logic board in my MBP left a minor scratch on the plastic hinge below the display, and they didn't insert one of the screws flush with the bottom of the case. On the plus side, I got to see where the RAM lives, and the efficient use of space when I removed the bottom panel to re-seat the screw. The unibody MBP is a nice piece of engineering.

  • Static on display

I have a G5 with two 23" aluminum case displays, that I use primarily for video editing. The primary display, which is older, has just started showing orange and turquoise static. The static can be especially noticeable on start-up, when it looks like a wind blowing across from the left. During video editing, orange static lines form across images, sometimes partially filling in areas of a picture. I've swapped power adapters and DVI ports, but the problem remains. Gently tapping the case will cause the static to go away for a while. The other display shows no problem. Does this mean the display is dying?

Whoops, wrong computer. It's a Mac Pro with the two displays.

  • Server Intermittently refuses to display local login window - screen saver

Occasionally the local login window refuses to appear after the screen saver has been activated on my 10.5.8 Server, resulting in my inability to access the interface at all afterwards. Other symptoms of the problem are that remote logins (ssh) are also no longer possible because passwords aren't accepted for any user. The password prompt is simply displayed repeatedly in the remote user's terminal until the tries are used up, and this happens whether or not the password was entered correctly. In other words remote login is no longer possible because no password is accepted. Because of this, the computer must be forcibly restarted to achieve recovery, which has to be done locally, of course, by either holding in the power button or disconnecting power to the computer. The log entries that seem to coincide with the occurrence of the problem appear to refer to a screen saver crash. The next workaround solution I intend to try is to prevent screen saver activation altogether. What are possible causes for this? Thanks.

Removing the following two files and reinstalling the latest server combo update were recommended by the article to which you referred.
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect.plist
I performed those steps and am still observing in order to establish whether or not they have provided a complete remedy. I haven't observed any occurrences of the problem since performing these steps, but the problem is quite intermittent, and the server remains configured to restart once every 24 hours. My next step is to remove the scheduled restart configuration so that the server runs continually. If the problem hasn't returned at all after a few weeks of continuous operation, then I'll consider the question answered. Thanks!

  • Google Static Maps display with LabVIEW

    Hi,
I have made a VI that displays the map based on Google Static Maps. For testing, I give random LAT and LON to display the location on front panel.
Issue is, whenever I try to change the coordiantes via a numeric control, the display either takes too much time to load and most of the times it shows half of the display. I tried putting a delay inside while loop but it does the same; shows me half image.
The Google Static maps work a URL script that has a specific format provided my Google. The format can be viewed here: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/staticmaps/
I have also attached a VI. A little asistance is needed in how I could either change my code in a such a way that i uses less memory and takes very less time to load.
    Thank you.

  • Intermittent Static Hiss w/ Slow-mo Distorted sounds (SB Audigy

Hello all!? Having a bit of an issue with an old SB Audigy 4 [C000] of mine. Bought it about two years ago, took it from the old desktop and put it into the new one. Had no issues with it until yesterday.
It seems that it's liking to suddenly emit a static hissing noise at random intervals, and when this hissing is going on, any audio coming from the computer is slowed down. I've never had this issue before, and I'm wondering if someone on here has had similar issues. These symptoms eventually end, but it's quite annoying because I have to wait for it to stop until it decides to go away. It also seems that it is somewhat affected by whatever I'm doing at the moment - minimizing windows or hovering the mouse over something that displays a text box sometimes makes it stop for a short second, before it picks up again.
    Thank you in advance.

...except that I'm using Windows XP 32-bit with SP2.
The only thing I can think of that would be causing this is that the WiFi USB adapter I installed yesterday was causing some sort of IRQ conflict or frequency disturbance. I've since plugged it into a different set of USB ports than where it originally was - maybe that'll fix it (I hope).

  • Intermittent static with headphones or additional speakers

I've been all through these forums and no one seems to have exactly what I am experiencing. I get a loud scramble of static, no pops or whines ever, just loud static, at random times. It only happens when I use the headphones or plug in another set of speakers. My sound can play flawlessly for hours, then all of a sudden, I get the harsh static that may continue for as long as several seconds or even fade in and out for a few. Sometimes it's cleared by unplugging and replugging the headphone or speaker jack. I also get the random loud static even if I am wearing my headphones but I have no music programs running. The sound will play wonderfully for hours, then I get the static shot, then it will play nice for a bit, then maybe 20 minutes later or two hours later another static shot. It's very random.
I took my iMac into the Geniuses last Wednesday and at first they found nothing, then kept it a few more days and said they heard what I was talking about. The "fix" was reloading software. They said they let it run for several more hours and it was fine.
However, I get it home, and it played well for several hours, but then the same issue of the intermittent harsh static is back.
I keep up with all my updates, I even tried the Garageband fix. I've tried using the Line In app, too, all to no avail.
We use a wireless network and with my previous computer, an HP laptop running Linux, I never had a problem like this.
Does any one have any ideas what this is and how to fix it? I'd appreciate any input and suggestions.
    Thanks!

did you ever solve this issue? my laptop is having the same problems

  • Intermittent static noise in exported movie

I exported a full HD movie 5min 30sec long (i tried it using both Export Using Quicktime and Export Movie options), and my finished movie has periodic static noise throughout the movie.  I don't hear it in the imovie program when i preview the movie, only in the exported .mov.file.  Any ideas as to why this is happening?  I've never had it happen before.  Thanks!

  • Mac Pro 4,1 intermittently horrible dual display performance

I'm running two Apple 20" Cinema Displays on a quad 2.66 MP 4,1. Lion 10.7.5, 8gb ram. Stock NVIDIA GeForce GT 120
I'm getting serious graphic slowdowns but can't determine what circumstances are triggering it. Things will be running fine after starting up for a while, but eventually it all goes down the toile. Just now I watched part of an HD QT movie in a Finder preview window, with the window max'ed, worked great. Then I opened in QT and suddenly it is super choppy, maybe 6-8fps. Went back to try it in Finder again and still stuttering.
I mainly use this MP running Pro Tools and will have the same problem. For the first one to several hours things will run fine, and then at some point it all gets choppy and the UI response is horrible. This will then be true across whatever programs (browser videos, etc).
I'd ask if I just need a better graphics card, but that in and of itself doesn't explain why it will run fine for a while and then suddenly take a nosedive.
Any ideas? I would appreciate any help.

    Thanks for the reply.
I have Activity Monitor open all the time to keep an eye on things. When the graphics slowdown happens there is still plenty of free RAM and CPU. I will watch more closely but haven't seen any difference in activity between when graphics are smooth and when they are bogged down.
