B590 running Win 7 64bit USB to serial problems

Hello All, Hit a bit of a brick wall with a weird problem I have regarding USB to serial converters in Windows 7 64bit Pro.I have a number of USB to serial converters in my office, but in particular I have a HL340 generic cable an easysync cable.A technician recently replaced their work laptop with a Lenovo B590 running Win 7 pro 64 bit. We use these USB to serial converters to communicate with embedded systems and security panels. I have tested both the above cables in a number of OSes, and they work perfectly on my -a) A netbook running Lubuntu 12.04,
b) an older desktop running Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit
c) and my main Win 7 Pro 32bit desktopWhen connecting either cable to the Lenovo, the driver installs, then refuses to work with the following error in device manager-"A service installation section in the INF is invalid"This is with the driver that installs automatically through Windows update, and it also occurs when I manually specify a driver (I hit the update driver button and select the folder for the downloaded driver). I've downloaded drivers for both converters from the manufacturers website and it returns the same error. Strangely enough, when you try and update the driver (either manually or automatically through Windows update) it says the best driver for the hardware is already installed.Uninstalling and reinstalling the driver leads to the same problem. My thoughts are that this is a problem with 64bit Windows, however a couple of our other technicians running Win 7 64 bit are able to use these same Easysync cables with no software problems (albeit often with hardware problems). The cable works fine in Windows XP mode on the Lenovo B590, but will not work natively. Any ideas? Because I am stumped.

hi danplanet,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Can you try disabling the Driver enforcement
http://www.fotoclubinc.com/blog/how-to-disable-driver-signature-enforcement-to-allow-installation-of-windows-7-printer-drivers-on-windows-8/
this is to address the "A service installation section in the INF is invalid" issue
After disabling the Driver Enforcement it should now ask your permission if you want to continue with the installation,
Continue with the installation and check,
Hope this helps,
Cheers!

  • Windows 8 USB 3.0 Problems

I have run into many USB 3.0 problems across multiple devices and computers running Windows 8 Pro 64-bit. After many headaches and sleepless nights I think I have narrowed all the problems down to one thing in Device Manager:
"Intel (R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller -0100 (Microsoft)”
The controllers (Multiple Computers) have had problems with all the Microsoft Drivers including the most resent: 6.2.9200.16548 3/1/2013
    The problems:
USB 3.0 External Optical Drives (labeled Windows 8 compatible) not recognized or continuously disconnecting/reconnecting with or without manufacturers drivers.
USB 3.0 Flash drives running slow and/or disconnecting often with data corruption/loss
USB 3.0 Flash drives not recognized
My solution: <Disabled> “Intel xHCI Mode” or “XHCI Pre-Boot Mode” in BIOS/Firmware
    This solution Takes the
"Intel (R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller -0100 (Microsoft)” out of Device Manager and eliminates all the problems stated above across multiple machines running Windows 8 Pro 64-bit.
However: This is not a fix.
The Intel USB 3.0 controllers on the machines seam to only run at 2.0 speeds. (Before they were also slow but much less functional, often not recognizing devices)
Non-Intel USB 3.0 controllers are fully functional at full USB 3.0 speeds. (Before they had limited or no function depending on the controller)
This appears to be a fix for non-Intel USB 3.0 controllers but what about the Intel controllers that take the lion’s share of USB 3.0 controllers on the market?
Dose Microsoft have a fix for
"Intel (R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller -0100 (Microsoft)”
Is there a new Microsoft driver coming out soon? How about an Intel driver for Windows 8 like the one they have for 7?
Am I the only one who is being slammed with this problem from every windows 8 machine I touch? I have not seen a large amount of discussion on the internet with such a seemingly big thing like USB 3.0 not working with Windows 8!

Hi I guess I am going to add a few more flies to the ointment.
I have a serious issue with USB 3.0 and I would like to hope that somebody may have an answer even if they are unable to help.
I run three different computers, for three completely different purposes, they are of different makes, One is an Acer, the other is a Pryon and the third is a Toshiba, I also have 2 Toshiba laptops, one brand new running Windows 8, the other running
Windows 7. So basically what I am saying here probably has nothing to do with the systems I am running.
I guess a lot of people are getting swindled here by the hard drive manufacturers and everyone here seems to be blaming it on windows. I have spent thousands of dollars replacing all my old 2.0 drives (and some were getting a bit tired) with these new fangled
super duper super fast 3.0 drives. I think overall in the past year I have bought around thirty of them, mostly portables, but some desktop ones, all different brands too I might add, Seagate, Western Digital, Toshiba and Samsung. This as you can imagine has
cost me a lot of money. The data I had on the old 2.0 drives equated to about 20 years of my life. Out of the roughly thirty I have bought, nine of them have bit the dust so to speak. Nearly all, once they become unusable, come up with the same thing, "The
last USB device you connected to this computer is not recognised.
As an example I will recount exactly what has occurred with the last one to fail, which was today about 4 hours ago as I write this. It was working perfectly fine this morning, never gave off one indication that it may be about to fail. Then after a restart
(which incidentally I am wondering if anyone else has this problem whereby once they shut down their computer they have to either power off or remove every USB 3.0 device from their unit before the computer will even start - this happens on two of mine - but
    not on the Toshiba)
So I shut down, I am using a powered 9 port hub for most of the portables on this particular system (Pryon) which I have to power off so all the drives disappear else the computer just hangs at the boot screen until I have done this) I have one 2,0 disc
connected which I don't need to remove for the system to start.
Anyways once I have restarted the computer I then re-power up the hub and all the drives are loaded again and away I go. Well that was all good except when I checked one of my drives was missing from the File manager that I use (Salamander) and also not
showing in Windows Explorer either. So I trace down the culprit, unplug it and re-plug it back in. Lo and behold up comes the afore-mentioned windows does not recognize this device. This is odd given that there are five other drives of the exact same make
and model attached to the same hub still working. As I don't have all the slots in the hub filled I decide to change the slot and plug it into a different one. Same result. So then I decide to plug it into a 3.0 slot connected directly to the box, same result.
As a last try I then plug it into a 2.0 slot on the box, same result. So then I take it out and try it on the other two boxes and eventually the laptop...same result....
I now have nine of these contraptions all totally useless to me....yes I guess I could send em back to Seagate and Toshiba and Western Digital and they will replace em with a brand new one...clean as a whistle with my twenty years up the poop chute....
I have looked everywhere through Google trying to find someone or somebody with the same problem as me, surely I cannot be the only person in Australia that happens to keep on getting the duds.
I've had 2.0 drives that have lasted ten years or more and probably may have went another ten if I didn't keep so called upgrading....some of these that have failed on me are not even 3 months old. I even had one desktop 3.0 drive that I bought on the Wednesday
in Adelaide and by the time I had gotten it home after my son had copied some stuff onto it..it wouldn't work.
I have tried just about everything I've ever read on these forums, like using a different cable, Ive even pulled one of the portable to pieces to be able to use an attachment that I can plug it directly into a 3.0 slot and still nada....
My newest laptop is still under warranty and I have had that back to the supplier twice with a main hard drive failure which they have had to replace.
The reason why I am suggesting here that it may not be all windows fault is that my other laptop is still running windows seven and once a drive cacks it it wont show up in that either....I will say this though, I only have one drive that I use in that laptop
and that is still running well.
Now before everybody jumps down my throat I have checked thoroughly for viruses on all my boxes, and they all are clean. And in anycase I've never heard yet about a virus that can attack one hard drive only, given that all that is on there is music, just
    like the other six.
Unless windows eight itself somehow manages to render a hard drive useless somehow then it has to be a fault in the manufacturing technology and that even though a drive might work perfectly for a week or two there is something there that the manufactures
    are missing in their testing.
Like someone said earlier, maybe it is going to take some massively big law-suit from a huge company that has lost everything against somebody for them to realise that USB 3.0 is tainted and no good.
Do they still make 2.0 cause I am going back there and hopefully I can do it before I lose everything, even though it will take a good part of six months to copy back over whatever it is that I still may have left....
Like I said I don't expect any answers but thank you for taking the time to at least read this...
    Cheers Vern

  • Win 7 on MacBook pro under bootcamp and USB to serial

    Hi all,
I am planning running win 7 under bootcamp on my macbook pro with mountain lion 10.8.2.
There is only one program I want to run under windows and that program needs to use a USB to serial converter made by KeySpan.
Question is once win 7 is installed will I then be able to install the windows drivers for the keyspan device as if I was on a win 7 PC?
    Thanks

    Silvolde wrote:
One more question: where do I download the apple drivers or does that happen automatically?
Nope. The first thing that the BootCamp Assistant offers you is to create a drivers CD or USB flashdrive. Once Windows installation is complete, you use that media to install drivers that allow Win7  to identify and use properly the Mac's hardware. Else it will use generic drivers that may not work fully.
Run the first step of Assistant again if you missed that. It won't mess up your installation.

  • When i try to open the itunes store in itunes, windows closes it after not finding a solution for the problem.I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Itunes software. I am running Win 7-with IE10-any help?

When I selected the Itunes store on my win PC today-the program was closed by windows with windows saying there was a problem. I tried a couple of times and then uninstalled the itunes software and reinstalled it with the same results. The program has always worked before but I have not used it recently since the Ipad now receives it's software updates right off the router. I am running Win 7 with IE10. Anyone with the same problem?

My post has been viewed 24 times, and yet have had no answers. I have always like adobe products, however if this is the type of support they offer, I will never purchase another product of theirs. The issue I am having is the same issue many others have had, and yet no answer. Poor customer service!

A bit of repetition, mainly for the benefit of anyone else with the same issue. In your case the "for older video cards" version might be worth a try.
When cleaning folders you need to check both the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders, which you may well have done but didn't mention in the detail above.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if Apple Mobile Device Support won't install normally.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Amazon "look inside" feature has stopped working for me on Firefox (used to work in the past; not sure when it stopped). The feature works fine on Internet Explorer 8.0 when browing the exact same books on Amazon. I'm running Win 7 64bit. Thanks.

After pressing "look inside", the loading message continues indefinitely. Sometimes, I get the message "server timeout".
Internet Explorer 8.0 loads the "look inside" pages instantly for the exact same Amazon books.
I have been running Win 7 64 bit for about 9 months. I believe the Amazon feature worked initially. Was running XP and Firefox prior to Win 7 and never had this problem. Used the "look inside" feature many times.

I believe I found the issue with this.
The IP Address that this server was sending out emails from, was at one point, blacklisted. So I changed the server to use our email gateway IP instead, and SMS Messages are being sent through now.

  • Audio problem when running Win XP Pro SP3

I have a problem when running Windows XP SP3 on my MacBook. Every minute or so, and this happens consistently, the music would be played in a slow-motion mode, and after a few seconds return to normal speed. I have exchanged for another MacBook, and I am having the exact same problem. I have all the drivers installed properly, and have tried both iTunes and WMP. This even happens when I am gaming or watching YouTube.
The problem does not exist when I'm running Mac OS X.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

After spending a few hours googling around I finally found the solution to the problem. At first I thought it was something wrong with my Windows XP Pro, but apparently people running Vista were having the same problem.
I installed Vista myself and indeed was having the same problem.
The problem apparently is a clash between the sound card and the WiFi card on the MacBook. If you turn off your WiFi, you would not get the occasional adio/video slowdown.
The solution was actually quite simple, force-install the 5.x Broadcom 802.11n driver, and voila, problem taken care of.

  • PC Suite - no USB and Serial Connection Type avail...

I have been trying to solve this problem for days now. I have Windows XP and Nokia 5310. After I installed Nokia PC Suite, there is no USB or Serial connection type in the Connection Manager; it only has Blue Tooth and Infrared conection available. I have install and uninstalled PC suite and used PC Suite Cleaner to clean the installation. I also went into the add and remove program in the control panel and click on "change" to fix the Nokia Connection Manager and Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver. It still didn't work. The thing is that the first time when installed PC Suite on my laptop, it did have USB connection option. Later after uninstalled PC Suite and reinstalled it, it start to have this problem. I am extremly frustrated. Can anyone help please?

Thanks for your reply. I have solved the problem by following your instruction below:
Go to Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Software, there you need to uninstall all Nokia software (Nokia PC Suite, Nokia Cable driver, PC Connectivity Solution ...)
Download and run Nokia PC Suite Cleaner
    Reboot your computer
Download and install PC Suite here.
Connect your phone via USB cable (if possible use a different USB jack) and follow the instructions on the screen.
Maybe when I uninstalled Chinese version of PC suite, the order in which it was uninstalled was not the one you suggested above. So,I followed your instruction and uninstall order to uninstall PC Suite again. I also uninstalled all the antivirus, spyware, and firewall before I reinstall the PC Suite. It worked; then, I reinstalled all the other security software again after I had reinstalled the PC Suite. Although it worked, I still didn't know what exactly cause the problem the first place, PC Suite version, Security protection software, or the order which it was uninstalled? All it matters is it's working.

  • KT4VL USB Host controller Problems

I have  a KT4VL (MS-67212) and am having problems with the USB Host controller.  I am running Win 98SE.  This happens wether or not I have any USB devices installed.  I have taken out all installed add on cards and tried and still get the same problem.
If I reboot the computer with the USB Host Controller installed, it won't boot.   It goes into safe mode where I can uninstall the USB host controller.   I can then reboot fine.
Every time I reboot though the hardware detector pops up saying that I need to install the drivers for the USB host controller.  If I install them, then  everything works fine, all USB devices are found and and function perfectly.  That is, until I reboot and it goes to safe mode.
It has the 1.1 bios in it.  I didn't install a floppy drive in this PC so I can't flash it at this time, if that is what I need to do.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,

  • Solving Prolific PL-2303 USB to Serial Comm Port installation issues

    Hello everybody,
More and more machines are comming without Parallel and serials ports, they are comming with USB external ports only.
Some have the RS-232 and Parallel headers in the motherboard, and that should last for about a year I think.
At any rate, the issue I was facing is the following:
    (a) Installing Prolific PL-2303 USB to Serial Comm Port on Windows XP Pro SP3 works OK and system runs fine. there are some capacity issues regarding the buffer size, but that is another post.
    (b) Installing on WEPOS 1.1 SP3 on some motherboards (Older ones) that have at least the Parallel headers and a serial port, the device also works as with (a)
    (c) Installing on WEPOS 1.1 SP3 with a machine with only external USB's (no parallel / serial port or headers). The installation process runs OK. but when the device
is plugged I get the following error message:
"An error ocurred during the installation of the device"
"A service Installation section in this INF is invalid"
    (d) Installing on POSReady 2009. I get the same as with (c)
This is how I solved, after many frustrating reboots with the same message about the INF section and multiple Prolific drivers tried.  I started digging windows:
    (1) Find the setupapi.log and read it, if the OS is a fresh install it will not be too long.
    (2) Read this:
    #-166 Device install function: DIF_SELECTBESTCOMPATDRV.
#I063 Selected driver installs from section [ComPort] in "c:\windows\inf\oem15.inf".
#I320 Class GUID of device remains: {4D36E978-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
    #I060 Set selected driver.

    [2010/02/13 23:32:24 2004.2]
    (3) So it was the serenum.sys file that Windows needed to find in the ..\system32\drivers folder. I got the serenum.sys from one of the temporary folders created by the installation process.
(3a) So, I think that windows installs this sys file if it recognizes the motherboard has at least one parallel or serial port.
    (4) So good luck when installing your serial device to your POS solution. I will open another thread if I have problems with the buffer size of the device.
    Humberto Sequeira

    Hello Terry,
Indeed, they were not intended as POS system, the EEE Top machines are candy to the eye, but for my taste they do not work in POS environment (I give them 1 year before they pop). Regarding the other, well competition is tought, so you have to get creative in order to keep costs down, and this one can be used as a waiter stations, that do not need heavy serial comunications.
Anyways, the POSReady does not install these system files if the installation does not detect a serial or parallel port (which make sense, as why would it install drivers for a device that is not detected). I posted this for others to be aware of this when they select the hardware that will be offered to their customers, as good old "on mother-board" serial and parallel ports cannot be beaten by their USB imitations (IRQ and memory addressing processing are needed for end devices to function properly).
    Have a great weekend,
    Humberto

  • BSOD 0xD1 on Windows 8.1 when using Asynchronous VISA and USB to Serial Adapter

I was consistently getting a BSOD with the code 0xd1, on usbser.sys, on windows 8.1. I am running LabVIEW 2013 SP1. The bluescreen only occurs on Windows 8.1 and everything functions fine on 7 and XP.
The "USB to Serial Adapter" is actually a microcontroller, not a physical USB to Serial adapter. The microcontroller's usb driver is just an INF to point to the generic Windows USB to Serial drivers.
The BSOD occurs after several minutes of my software running, while it is polling the controller every second. After changing the communications mode in my software to synchronous on every VISA write and read call, the BSODs stopped occurring and the program has been running stable for several hours now on Windows 8.1.
This BSOD seems to be the result of a strange interaction between the hardware, VISA and the Windows 8.1 USB to Serial drivers. Sending lots of traffic through a terminal emulator does not produce a similar BSOD.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this? If so did you discover an explanation or any clues to fixing it more permanently than always using synchronous communication?

Some notes to help anyone else who gets this problem in the future:
-I was able to replicate it today on Windows 7 also, though it took a more extreme situation(a VI  looping asynchronous reads and writes as fast as possible for several minutes). The result was the same 0xD1 BSOD.
-I found a Microsoft support article documenting that the crash is from a race condition in usbser.sys and providing a fix: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2964073 . Sadly the fix is only for Windows 7, but I was able to confirm that after installing it, BSODs no longer occur from VISAs asynchronous read.

  • Is possible connect XFi 2 to a PC desktop that run Win 2000 SP4?

My brother bought the MP4 XFi 2 in USA. I come from Argentina and I?ve got a PC desktop that run Win2k SP4. Is possible connect XFi 2 with firmware compatible with Win XP SP2 to a PC desktop that run Win 2000 SP4. I only want to connect it to PC and submit files since and to PC. What problems could I have got? If I do that the PC would be able to recognize it or become instable? What do you think? Sorry my poor english but I speak spanish. I would very grateful if somebody answer and help me if it possible. Thanks.

The HP Pavilion is a computer, and not a modem. Or rather it is a computer with a built-in modem. So you already have a computer to run your programs and no other computer is needed.
About the display, a major advantage of the Thunderbolt display is a function of the Thunderbolt interface and its ability to support multiple I/O technologies including Thunderbolt, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2, and Firewire 800 in addition to the video signal. I know of no adaptor, or PC compatible display card that will enable all of that from a computer that was not built with Thunderbolt built in.
However, if you are primarily interested in the 27" display, then Apple's LED display will work quite nicely with an appropriate $35 adaptor available through the Apple Store. Which particular adaptor you need depends on the video output port on the PC. SInce you say it is an old HP Pavilion, it probably has a VGA or SVGA video port.
