B85M-G43 CPU won't go Package C6/C7

Hi there,
My problem affects the system in my sig but without the dedicated VGA. The idle power consumption of this system should be well under 20W, but it remains above - at around 23W (my power meter is working and measures with sufficing accuracy).
The tool Throttlestop v6.00 (from TechPowerUp website) shows me, that the CPU won't enter the deep package sleep states c6/c7, which would enable the Haswell chip to save the additional 5W in idle.
I enabled all the powersaving options / CPU features in BIOS (Intel C-State [enabled], C1E-Support [enabled], Package C State Limit [C7s]). I also tried a downgrade from BIOS v3.4 to v3.0, but the problem persists. Also disabling Ethernet, HDAudio and COM/LPT made no difference. Except from standard mouse, keyboard and LAN there is nothing else connected to the PC. A cross check with a fresh ArchLinux bootet from USB stick and Powertop also showed me that Package C6/C7 are not entered at all.
My question is, am I missing something? Is there anybody with this board whose CPU gets into those sleep states or whose system needs less than 20W?
Or is this really a bug in the BIOS?
Thanks very much, any help/ideas/suggestions are welcome!

Perhaps your OS sleep state option has to be enable to ensure that the processor sleep state can be envoked.
Perhaps the option is in the BIOS but has no effect currently as a lot of MB manufacturers opted not to enable it due to the following problems
Quote
the new Haswell processors enter a sleep state called C7 that can drop processor power usage as low as 0.05A. Even if the sleeping CPU is the only load on the +12V rail, most power supplies can handle a load this low. The potential problem comes up when there is still a substantial load on the power supply's non-primary rails (the +3.3V and +5V). If the load on these non-primary rails are above a certain threshold (which varies by PSU), the +12V can go out of spec (voltages greater than +12.6V). If the +12V is out of spec when the motherboard comes out of the sleep state, the PSU's protection may prevent the PSU from running and will cause the power supply to "latch off". This will require the user to cycle the power on their power supply using the power switch on the back of the unit.

  • B85M-G43 CPU Support

    Hi all I'm thinking to buy mobo B85M-G43 along with celeron g1820.
    The problem is that in CPU support list there is no celerons but in spec page I see this
    Supports 4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7 / Core™ i5 / Core™ i3 / Pentium® / Celeron® processors for LGA 1150 socket
    It is intresting because all other mobos with b85 seems to have celeron suppot in official msi cpu list.
    If there is some tech guy form msi in this forum could you check this?
    And if this mobo doesn't support this cpu what all you could recommend with similar price and features?
    Thanks

  • 1866mhz Memory in B85M-G43

    Hey,
    I was planning to purchase a B85M-G43 motherboard soon. My question is, with an i5-4670, will the motherboard work with 1866mhz memory at that speed.
    Thank you.

    Dear Gg61,
    Based on Intel SPEC, B85 does not support CPU overclocking. That is, the system will run 1600Mhz even when you populate 1866Mhz.
    If you want to run 1866Mhz, please choose Z87M-G43.

    Hope this information is helpful for you.

  • MSI B85M-G43 can't install Windows 7. Hard disk not detected.

    Hi,
    I just built a new computer for the first time.  I followed the instructions and did everything correctly. but am unable to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Hard disk isn't always detected during the installation.
    But when it appeared in the "Where do you want to install Windows" list along with system, I tried to format the hard disk and got a message "Failed to format the select partition. [Error 0x80070057]."
    Then I restarted the computer, the hard disk no longer displayed in the list, so I put motherboard driver disc and clicked on Load Driver and opened Storage\Intel\PCH_12.0\f6flpy-x64. It loaded, then I got a message saying "To continue installation, use the Load Driver option to install 32-bit and signed 64-bit drivers. Installing an unsigned 64-bit device driver is not supported and might result in an unusable Windows installation."
    I restarted again and disabled Driver Signature Enforcement, but it didn't help. I still got the same message.
    In the computer case I have these devices:
    - MSI B85M-G43, Socket-1150
    - Intel Core i5-4430 Processor
    - Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 8GB
    - MSI GeForce GTX 650Ti BOOST 1GB
    - Cooler Master GX 550W PSU
    - WD Desktop Green 1TB
    - SuperMulti 16X DVD(+/-)R/RW 12X RAM (+/-)R DL LightScribe SATA drive
    Everything is plugged in correctly. Hard disk connector plugged in SATA 1 and DVD -> SATA 2.
    The installation is pretty slow, regardless if i install it via USB or x16 DVD. All except DVD and hard disk are disabled. It's also worth to mention that even DVD and USB aren't always detected in the click BIOS.
    So I'm wondering if anyone here can help me? Thanks

    Hi and
    1: What BIOS version you have? .. Have you tryed to downgrade/upgrade it already?
    2: Have you tryed it in those SATA 2 ports? ...is it same strory?
    - On SATA there aint any master or Slave like on IDE so if you are under same controller it dosent mutter what port you use on what device.
    Note: SATA 3 Ports are faster then SATA2 ports, but even SATA 1 can handel your DVD or HDD. So no lose if you need to use SATA 2 ports.
    Hope this get you foward! Cheers Mummy

  • Why won't it package?????

    I'm using the new Tomcat 5.0 and apparently it won't read a class unless it's part of a package.
    I'm trying to compile a very simple Bean.
    package mypackage;
    public class StringBean {
    private String message = "No message specified";
    public String getMessage() {
    return (message);
    public void setMessage(String message) {
    this.message = message;
    With the "package mypackage;" I expect it to put it into mypackage directory but all it does it create the .class file in the same directory I'm already in. I'm using Java 1.4.1.
    Why won't it package???

    you can compile java files anywhere, you have to put the class in the correct place to use them during runtime. typically you have a src directory with all of your java files in the correct directory stucture for you rpackages and then a classes directory with the correct directory stucture for you packages. You use a build tool like ant to do the compile and place the class files in the classes directory.

  • MSI B85M-G43 could not detect Gigabyte R929OC 4GB 3X Windforce

    I recently build a new PC a month ago and have been using it for 3 weeks then random black screens problem started to occur.
    It started right around the time after I updated to catalyst 14.4 w/o the beta. At the same time i noticed windows update has updated some files which i did not note down what it was. Also Noticed that startup list had some new programs running.
    I proceeded to disable the programs in startup, undo the latest windows update and finally reinstalled windows 8.1
    Nothin works and I am left with black screen, which i realised that to be actually the mobo not detecting the card once i got a vga screen plugged in to mobo onboard graphics and went to BIOs to see.
    Previously my BIOs were updated to latest through the liveupdate 5 program, which itself updated to liveupdate 6. For some reason I dont like programmes sitting at the back constantly checking for updates, so after updating those, I deleted all those programs. The updates also took forever to download, I figured i will download/install individually in future. Now that I do a search there is no live update 6?
    Just to make sure, I have reflashed the BIOs to E7823IMS v3.6 again through the m-flash inside BIOs, but did not choose the BIOs + ME option as i dont know what it is. After reboot, BIOs version remained there, checked for ME and there's the version number 9.0.21.1462.
    BIOs version:  E7823IMS v3.6
    ME version: 9.0.21.1462
    Prior to the Win8.1 reinstall, my OS was sitting on my SSD in non UEFI mode, I chose to install in non-uefi as i dont know what it was then. When i tried to reinstall, somehow the boot priority identified the SSD as UEFI first, so i wanted to give it a try and proceeded to install win8.1 in UEFI until reboot failed. Then I decided to installed my win8.1 on my HD in non UEFI instead. The system, as usual, works using the integrated graphics and mobo could not detect the graphics card in the only PCIe 3.0 x16 slot. Should I plug it into the PCIe 2.0 x16 slot and try, It never occur to me until now as I thought that was the only slot my graphics card could use.
    Please help
    Here are my specs:
    MSI B85M-G43
    Intel i7-4770 3.4GHz
    G.Skill Ripjaw 1600MHz (2 x 8)MB Blue
    SSD Samsung Evolution 240GB
    WD 1TB Blue
    Gigabyte R929OC 4GB 3X Windforce
    LG 24x DVD Writer
    Corsair Carbide Air 540 Case
    SeaSonic G-750 80+ GOLD Power Supply
    ASUS PCE-N53 PCI-E Adapter
    Windows 8.1 OEM
    Qnix QX2710 Evolution II 27" matte PLS monitor (uses dual-DVI-D connector only)

    try to update your bios again but use the BIOS + ME option as it will flash not only your bios but Intel ME at the same time.
    Note: Don't remove your USB during bios flash as the system will restart for I think around 2 times and plugging out USB might kill the MB bios.
    Did you modify any settings in the bios setup??
    If updating bios not can't work, try to plug your card to second PCIE slot and see if it could boot or not.

    I've tried everything I can think of to overclock the Northbridge on this MoBo, or to get it to move from 1500MHz for that matter
    I have the most current BIOS (v2.5), I've tried adjusting the NB-CPU multiplier both up and down to no avail. I have the voltages for everything set manually so I know it can't be that. I honestly don't know what to do at this point
    My system specs:
    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
    CPU: Athlon X4 750K
    MB: MSI FM2-85XA-G43
    RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X 16GB (2x8GB)
    Graphics Card: Gigabyte R9 270X
    PSU: Rosewill 550w HIVE
    Boost SSD: Corsair Force GS 120GB
    I found that it lets me over/underclock the RAM itself but I can't seem to find any way to adjust the Northbridge. Any help would be truly appreciated

    Thanks, yep tried that too. Even different SATA ports.
    I did find out why my USB was not being recognized. The USB had actually physically broke and was being retracted upon insertion.  Nothing a little hotglue couldn't fix.
    So I'll clean the hhd of the partial xp install and try the Win7 starter again.
    I'm still expecting a bsod so I'll find a quality psu and see how it goes. I'm leaning more toward a psu issue because any change in dram settings and it boot cycles. I've run this ram solid at 1866 but anything off 1300 on this board and it dies. I'm running a $50 Frys 500W unit that runs all these parts on a Giga board fine but I've seen stranger things.
    I'm not used to the thin and flexible mobo material used on this MSI unit. I may mount some non conductive material behind the 24 pin connector so I can make sure it's seated.

  • MSI 970a-g43 CPU fan always at 100% when fast boot or MSI Fast Boot is enabled

    I turned on fast boot in my motherboard in my BIOS but now whenever I boot into windows the CPU fan is always at 100%. I really like the performance gain from fast boot, however I can't stand the CPU fan always at 100%. The fan normally runs at ~1150rpm when its off but when its on it runs full blast ~2800rpm.
    My specs are:
    MSI 970a-g43
    AMD FX 6300
    MSI HD 7870 OC Edition (Flashed with GOP vBios)
    2x4 8gb DDR3 g.skillz ram

    I have it set to 55c smart fan control in the BIOS. With fast-boot off it works perfectly. It seems like its not lowering the fan like it normally does when its on. If I go into the BIOS and reset it it'll work fine the first time, but after that it'll do the 100% fan speed all the time.

  • T61 T7500 + Win8.1 .. CPU won't go above 54% use

    Hey there.
    I'm having this odd problem with my "new" T61 laptop.
    The T7500 processor doesn't want to go above 54% use (looking at task manager), or well it's clocked at 1.17-19GHz and doesn't clock up when under load. Stuck at the 6 multiplier or something.
    I was fiddeling around with Throttlestop the otherday to "unlock" the 2.4GHz state but later reverted back and deleted the program. Thats when I started noticing this.
    I've been through the power settings in Win8.1 and in the BIOS.
    I previously disabled the SpeedStep technology in the BIOS and then yesterday I noticed I forgot to put "Mode for AC" in Maximum Performance. So i changed it and I thought that had fixed it but to no good. Before this I formatted the system, since I was already running a fresh OS.
    The system specs are:
    T7500
    4GB RAM
    SSD
    Middleton BIOS
    Intel GPU
    BIOS Power settings are:
    I'm pretty stomped right now and would like some ideas as to why this might be happening.
    Cheers.
    EDIT: I just changed all the settings in BIOS for Maximum Performace. It didn't change a thing.
    Then I plugged in the battery and the problem went away, I unplugged the power cable and there was still no problem. But if I replug the power cable and remove the battery.. it goes back to only half of it's performance..
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    ThinkPads are NOT designed to be used without a battery installed.
    The only time that one should remove the battery from the machine is when it's dead, since running with a dead battery installed can - and eventually will - damage the charging circuit.
