Baby monitor/live web cam

We have four iSight camera enabled Macs in our house, an Airport network, fast cable Internet, and a hosting plan with iPower as well as MobileMe. I would like to set up a Mac in the kid's room so that I can monitor him from other parts of the house/workshop when he's sleeping and also so that my wife can look in on "us" from time to time from her office in town. It seems like this should be an easy thing to do considering all the tools we have available. I just don't have a clue as to how to do it. I read the info on EvoCam's website, but I was hoping that I was already paying for something like that with what I have.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
It could be done with iChat.
On the Home Network the computer in the Child's room would need iChat to be set up with the Bonjour account Activated  (iChat > Preferences > Accounts).
Then in the iChat > Preferences > Alerts you would set the top item to Video Invite and then lower down the AppleScript option and then select Auto Answer in the Drop down list.
In iChat the Bonjour Accounts takes the Mac User that is logged in Address Book > My Card detail as the Buddy Name and broadcasts this to the other Macs.
You would need your Mac to have iChat's Bonjour Account enabled.
This does mean that each Mac needs to have a different User Logged in.
MobileMe Account names are valid AIM screen names as well
You may need to shorten the password to 16 characters as a MAx as this is the AIM server end Limit.
Family sub account names will not work. So you may have to register for either an AIM name or an @mac.com name.
Your wife would not be able to Call-In if you were already using Bonjour.
However with 3 Valid AIM names she could Text you and then you could Invite her to a 3 way Video Chat (Join an existing Video chat)
This would require that you had at least 500kbps as Upload as well as download to support the two stream of Video from home and Host it.
( A 1-1 Video chat can be managed with as little as 128kbps Upload.  For a 3 and 4 way Video Chat Apple says the min is 384kbps to be the Host  but you also have to allow for the fact there will be two Video streams from your end)
Evocam
Evocam gets the Video feed from the camera and snapshots it as jpegs.
These jpegs are then sent to a web page.
If that page is local to you (on your computer or on a another home computer) this posting and refreshing the page can make for a stuttering look "live" video feed.
You may also have issue as to whether your ISP allows you to Host a Web Server.  It is not always allowed.
You would also have to make changes to your Router set up to process Requests for the page to that computer that Hosts it.
If the page is on an External Server then the time taken to FTP the file up to the server adds more jerkiness.
I have version 3.5 which is not the latest but I don't read of any changes on that front on their site.
However it does provide the option of allowing more people to access it.
Koowy
Koowy is a Web Site that is free.
You go to that Link and enter a "room" Name.
This then creates a page (URL for you) that "Contains" the room.
Flash has to be Enabled on the Browser that is involved.
Once you are in the Room a Flash Pop appears asking you to Allow access to the camera.
(In some cases you may need to choose the camera type in the Tab for Cameras)
Once another computer or person has the URL of the room that can enter it and set up/Allow their Camera or just view the Stream.
Audio can be Muted.
As Baby Boomer says looking for older threads by mining the More Like This options will also produce answers.

  • I cannot view a live web cam on my IPad2

I have Safari. Why can't I view live web cams?

No real idea since you post no details about the webcams. Perhaps they're streaming in a format not supported by the iPad. If you can post the URL to one or more of these webcams, we can check them out and then perhaps offer suggestions.
    Regards.

  • Can I use my IPad to monitor 2 web cams in my children's rooms? How, and what do I need?

How can I use my IPad to monitor 2 web cams wirelessly in my children's rooms?

Search for webcam apps in the app store.  Most work only with specific cameras.  Check the manufacturer of yours and see if they offer an iOS app.

  • Help!! - Live Web Cam Chat in a Captivate E-Learning Session

I really hope someone can help me with this one.  I am doing an elearning session in Adobe Captivate which needs to contain a live web cam chat.  I was thinking about creating a flash video to record the live web cam chat but have no idea how to do it.  Unfortunately this is one skill that I haven't had the opportunity to learn and have never had to do this before.  Its very new and sophisicated for me!!!!
    Please help someone!!!
    Many thanks
    Lisa

    Hi Lisa
    Okay. Gotcha!
For starters, you won't want to use Captivate to capture the Web Chat. I recently tried some full motion using Captivate 4 and it's seldom going to give you anything remotely close to what you want. So you will need to investigate some other software to capture the Web Cam stuff.
Perhaps investigate another Adobe product called Visual Communicator.
Once you get something that is able to capture the Web Cam, it needs to spit back out a file in FLV or SWF output. You would then drop the FLV into Captivate. (Or present it in a frame on a web page).
    Hopefully this helps a smidge.

  • Need java script to play web cams.

What can I install that is like java script on my Samsung Galaxy tablet that will allow me to view live web cams?

Javascript comes by default as part of Firefox. It is likely that the site with the webcam is not set to detect Firefox correctly. We cannot fix the site, contact the site owner and alert them to this problem. This assumes that it is a image based web cam and not an Adobe Flash based webcam.

  • Web Cam NB205 325BN

I installed both Skype and Windows Live Messenger.  I ran the audio and video tests on both and the audio was fine on both programs.  Theproblem is the Video.  All I have is a Blue Screen with bubbles on it.  When I clicked on the video test the small blue light did wotk but no video.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Sounds like you somehow have activated the web camera Effects - Screen Cover image option. Open the Toshiba  Web Camera Application, then select Effect, then select the Screen Cover tab, and then select the Off option, and then click OK to save the setting change. Once done, The blue bubble image that is shown in the live web cam video window should go away and you should now have live web cam video. If you get a picture frame around the live video then check the Picture Frame tab and ensure it's set to Off.

  • Is there way to Monitor Live camera from SCOM 2012 R2

Is there way to Monitor Live camera from SCOM 2012 R2 ?

Depends what it is that you want to monitor?
If it's an IP camera that supports SNMP, you can monitor multiple components, depending on the manufacturer (e.g. # images captures, uptime in hours, ...).
If it doesn't support SNMP, you can monitor it through ICMP (ping). Then it's only possible to monitor the state of the device (up/down) depending on wether scom receives a ping reply or not.
If it's a coaxial camera or something else, not connected to a network, it's not possible to monitor the camera itself. Might be possible to monitor the computer/DVR that records the images.

  • I am looking to purchase a monitor for a Power Mac G4 OR a Web cam that is compatible with the the Power Mac G4.

I have a G4 Power Mac without the original monitor - I am using a monitor from a PC that does not have a built in webcam. I have also tried a "Blue" brand webcam that was received as a gift for me that does not work...and went to best buy to buy a compatable one and they had none that they thought would work w/ the G4 power mac  What are my options? Ideally the cheapest would be a compatable webcam. any thoughts/suggestions? or thoughts about where to get a replacement original monitor.
    thanks!

    HI,
    ON the cam front.
The OS will support UVC compliant camera (USB Video Class) since 10.4.9  in iChat (Slightly earlier in other apps)
The issue for older G4 macs is that these are always USB 2.0 cameras (Used to be marked "Vista Ready" or "Certified" as Windows went USB 2.0 about the same time).
I have a G4/1ghz Dual Processor tower (So called Mirrored Doors)
This can have extra PCI cards and have installed one with 4 USB 2.0 ports  (Remove blank, insert and secure with screw and away it went)
Nowadays virtually any USB webcam will be UVC compliant and USB 2.0  (Meaning no Windows or Mac Drivers to download and Install)
The abilities of the Drivers in the OS do vary between Windows and Macs of this age.  (Lion on Intels does bring face tracking).
Anyways, once you solve the USB 2.0 input issue then virtually any USB 2.0 camera will work including the X-Box 360 cam or a PalyStation 3 one
    Firewire
The Original External iSight was of course Firewire.
There were a number of other around the same time (Until USB cameras took over).
This means that some DV convertors that use Firewire to get Analogue CamCorders signals into a Mac will work (some digital camcorders may not produce a DV signal as such and will need a convertor)
The camera may have options on it's playback that mean it can be in 4:3 ratio if used with iChat.  It also cannot be HDV (or any propriatary form)  (You have to have an Intel and Lion/iChat 6 for HD).
Of course some DV camcorders  do use Firewire to connect to a computer  (although this has dropped off as USB 2.0 is actually slightly faster)
iMovie will accept many more formats than iChat will but you were talking about Web Cams.
    NOTES
You may find sites still trading the external iSight.  They are going to be at least 8 years old now and you will need to check so how that they are working
    USB 1.1
If you can find a USB 1.1 Camera for sale or tucked in a drawer  it will need two things:-
    1) A Mac Driver
    2) This Utility for iChat http://www.ecamm.com/mac/iusbcam/
Some manufacturers did have web sites with Downloads.
The Camera Guide page at Ecamm shows the links to two third Party Drivers from macam and IOXperts.
You will note the first Ecamm page says that iUSBCam does not work in Snow Leopard but you specs do say you are using Leopard (10.5)
    Back to Screens
My tower has a card that supports two monitors.
The one I bought with my Tower was the Studio Display (Same Acrylic type surround to the screen as the Tower).  (It does have USB 1.1 ports on the back)
This used the then Apple Display Connector (ADC)
It also had a DVI output.
Ergo any DVI Screen will work.
As to whether a  DVI screen/display with a camera can use that DVI connector to feed the Camera to the Mac I don't know.

  • Ip camera baby monitor

I've been trying to use a tenvis ip camera as a baby monitor but am having real trouble getting it all set up over my HH2 for viewing from my iPhone when I'm away at work.
I bought it so I could look in on my 9 month old being looked after my mum during the day. I was hoping it was going to be quite straightforward and am not getting any help from tenvis tech support - there doesn't appear to be any real help on offer from them.
It should just work and I am using the icamviwer app on my iPhone. I've read here something about port forwarding? I don't really want to mess around with settings on my router if I can help it.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I just wanted to offer an update, which I hope will be useful to others here.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I sent the original camera back and replaced it with a Wireless IP Webcam UCam247i.
Well, I must say I've been pleasantly surprised because it really did work just as expected and I had it working from my iPhone in about 10 minutes. Even had it working wirelessly by following the video tutorial ucam247 have on youtube.
The camera has quite good video, though no quite high definition, but it works brilliantly over my iPhone and I can even hear audio!
Suffice to say it's a great little baby monitor though you can also use it for home security as it has things like a motion sensor and can record video directly as well.

  • Baby Monitor - view live streaming video on iPhone

I am in search of a webcam (to use as a baby monitor) that I can use with my iPhone to view live streaming video from...
Can someone please recommend a webcam (ideally with a low-light setting, because babies like to sleep in the dark;) and a capable app from the app store that would help me achieve this?
    Thanks!

That is going to be a very custom app. I really doubt it will be in the app store. I understand the idea. I have a monitor myself that has video. I would have to hook up that video monitor to an input device on a computer networked in the home. For me this would entail video monitor output to a camcorder to firewire to imac. could get quite complicated. Even doing this much could encounter problems like each interface having to be set up correctly. once that is done, you might be able to use the bonjour networking to get from iphone to imac. all of this is hypothetical though. interesting scenario though

  • Web cam stopped working with Windows 7 (but works fine with Ubuntu Live CD).

Since two days my web cam stopped working. I am using Windows 7 64 bit and I have a Toshiba L505d S5992. It does not show in Device Manager and Windows Update doesn't recognize it, manually I can not install it, so my best guess it was broken.
But then I tried the LiveDVD of Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit) and it recognized immediately my web cam and the blue light came on. I have no clue what happened with Windows 7 but it's getting very frustrating.
Any help would be very welcome at this point.

Download the webcam application for your unit from this website.
Uninstall it on the programs and features then installed the downloaded webcam application.
Hope this will help you solve the issue.
