Back Arrow is misbehavin!

When using the back arrow instead of single clicking I now have to double click in order to go back a page. Could someone help me correct this problem. Thanks

Hi Diane,
The preference file for Safari may be corrupt.
In the Finder, drag to the desktop the com.apple.safari.plist folder found in your User Account>Library>Preferences folder.
Restart Safari. If this works, you'll need to reset your custom preferences, plus any custom settings in the Edit (spelling) or View (status bar, bookmarks bar, custom icons etc.) menus.
Otherwise, move the file back to its original location.
The alternative is to try Safari from another User Account to determine if the problem is system-wide, or specific to your regular User Account. Here is guidance from Apple on how to set up the account. While the instructions are specific for Tiger, the same applies for Panther. Ignore the instructions for Parental Controls.
Log-on to the new account and start Safari. If the sites are accessible in the new account, then your problem is specific to your regular user account. Otherwise, similar response means a system-wide problem.

  • I downloaded Firefox 3.6 and now my tool bar is gone. No back arrows, forward arrows, file, edit, view, history, bookmark, tools....how do I get my web browser to look like a regular browser again?

I downloaded the new Mozilla web browser and I had a Bing homepage setting. I changed back to yahoo but I ever since downloading I dont have any back arrows, forward arrows, file, edit, view, history, bookmark, tools, address bar....how do I get my web browser to look like a regular browser again?

For details of how to restore the menus see [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/menu+bar+is+missing]
Once the menus are back, you can use the View menu, then select Toolbars and click on the names of the toolbars to toggle displaying them.

  • After I open FireFax 4 to my home page and then try to navigate elsewhere, I do not have access to the back arrow to return to the home page. What setting is causing this to happen?

    Toshiba Satellite Laptop
    Vista Home Premium
    Firefox 4.0 recently installed
Every time I load Firefox, my home page comes up.
After going to another page, I do not see the back arrow highlighted, and the only way to get to the home page, I have to click on the Home button in the upper right part of the screen and get a new tab. Annoying - yes. Practical - no. I even uninstalled 4 and reloaded with the same results each time.

Then you need a clean install.
First export your bookmarks to a html file. (Bookmarks/Unsorted bookmarks will bring you History page where you can export your bookmarks). Note down your add-ons too.
Uninstall the old FF using free software like Revo Uninstaller. This will delete all the root directories and registries of old FF.
Now download the latest version of FF and install it. You can re-import your bookmarks from your saved html file.
You may still have to do the fix in my first post.
Post here whether this worked for you.

  • Issue with Safari and using the back arrow with multiple tabs open

I open multiple tabs in Safari but when I'm in a tab browsing and I hit the back arrow, in the new version of Safari, it doesn't just go back to the previous page in the tab, it completely backs out of all the tabs. What am I doing wrong?
I have a PC running Win 7 and the lastest version of Safari.  I launch Safari which opens to my home page (CNN). I then go the News on my menu bar and select Open in Tabs - then tabs for 6 news sites open up. However if I go to one of the tabs and start navigating around the sight and I want to back up a page I click the back arrow like I have always done in previous versions of Safari but instead of backing up 1 page in the tab I'm in, it collapses all the tabs and I'm back with only the CNN tab still open. Its frustrating not being able to backup on page and I can figure out what's going on. I've use Safari for sometime now but only this version is giving me this problem. I tried resetting and reinstalling Safari but still get the same problem.  Any ideas? Its like I'm backing out of tabs instead of pages.

    Thanks for your quick response.
    1) I have the Block Pop UP windows option turned off
    2) I switched Safari to 32 -bit mode and rebooted my iMac but I still can't get the CBS videos to run
The exact message I get in the Hulu or CBS box is:
The video you have requested is either unavailable or is being blocked by an ad blocker installed in your browser.
I have the same problem with the Safari, Firefox and Opera (all are the latest versions.

  • How can I go BACK to the site I was at, say, 5 site previous or forward without hitting the BACK arrow 5 times? The previous version had a drop down box with a list of previous sites I could click on.

It can take a while to go back by hitting the back arrow again and again. The previous version had a drop down box that listed nine or ten previous URLs. This allowed me to pick out which one I wanted by clicking on that URL. Version 4 doesn't have this feature or, if it does, I cannot find it. Is this capability on Version 4, and if so, how can I find it?

You can get the drop down list by either right-clicking on the back/forward buttons, or holding down the left button until the list appears.

  • After I search using Google in Firefox, and hit the back arrow button to return to the main homepage I use, the browser won't take me there. Instead, I'm left at the initial results page from my search.

Assume I start at Google as my homepage. I search for Federal Reserve. Google then brings up a number of selections for Federal Reserve. I can scroll through to more search results on page 2, 3, 4, etc. Now suppose I want to use the back arrow button to go back to Google as my homepage. I’ve found what I was looking for. When I try to get back to Google, the furthest back I can go is to page 1 of the search results. The browser won’t take me back to the original starting page which was Google. Also, it doesn’t matter what the starting page or initial page was. The browser will only take me back to the initial page after the original homepage. By the way, I did not install any new software or applications prior to this problem occurring. My guess is that it may have something to do with the function keys at the top of the keyboard. But I can’t figure out what the problem is with the function keys. It’s only a guess.

using Google toolbar for searches?? disable instant search (click the wrench to the right of the tool bar, untick enable instant, and hit save. worked for me

  • While viewing a page I suden get "Oops! This page appears broken. DNS Error - Server cannot be found." However I can back arrow to the page

I just upgrade to versions 18.0.1. I am suing Window 7 64 bit.
Now I while I am viewing a page I suddenly receive the error massage "Oops! This page appears broken. DNS Error - Server cannot be found."
I can use the back arrow key to bring the paper back.
If I have several tabs open, I can watch one tab after another change from the page name, It doesn't seem to matter who page it is, Yahoo, Washington Post, NBCNews,

I am not a techie. I keep 15-20 to tabs open at a time for reference while working. When I upgraded to this version, all my tabs were closed and my history was erased. I still have not recovered from that loss. I do not want to have this repeated!
If I was using pdfforge extension (what ever that is) before the upgrade, why is it venomous now?
Besides this issue, since upgrading I suddenly starting having the audio from commercials being played from tabs that are not active (open). I now have to leave my audio muted.
I expected assistance from Firefox not some unknown individual ( iamjayakumars) who for all I know is a troll trying to get me to do something to expose my computer to attack.
I allowed Firefox to collect data they needed from my computer when I submitted the question.
Fix the bug in your program! I have used Firefox since it came out. I am within a hairs width of switching browser. The only thing holding me with Firefox is my bookmarks. If I figure out how to export them, I am gone.
    FIX YOUR BROWSER!!!

  • If I click on a google search link and return with the back arrow on the browser it takes me to the top of the page and not the link I just opened unlike Internet explorer

I run a search on google.com and click on a link that comes up near the bottom of the page, After I read it and then use the back arrow (pointing left) to return to the searches it takes me to the top of the page to the first link google found rather than the link I just looked at. This does not happen with other web pages using firefox or Internet Explorer's Browser (using google).

Type '''about:config''' in the Location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key. When you see a warning, click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''' button.
    * Preferences that have been modified are shown as '''bold (user set)'''.
    * Preferences can be '''Reset to the default''' or changed via the right-click context menu.
-> In the '''Filter bar''', type '''browser.sessionhistory.max_entries'''
    * Right click the preference '''browser.sessionhistory.max_entries''' and click '''Modify'''
    * Change value from 0 to whatever you want over 0 (Default value is 50)
    * click OK
-> Close the '''about:config''' tab and then Restart Firefox.

  • In the top left on my screen where the back arrow is, there used to be a drop down arrow to skip back many pages. After installing 4.0.1, it has disappeared. How do I get it back?

In the top left on my screen where the back arrow button is to go back to previous webpages, there used to be a drop down arrow just to the right so I can see many of my previous web pages. Since installing Firefox 4.0.1, that arrow disappeared.

You can get the drop down list by either right-clicking on the back/forward buttons, or holding down the left button until the list appears.
If you want the drop-down arrow you can add it with the Back/forward dropmarker add-on - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/backforward-dropmarker

  • There used to be a feature on the 'back' arrow; a small tiny down click arrow where i could choose a specific recent page to go back to. it saves hitting and reloading old pages i want to skip. what can i do now?

at the top left corner of the tool bar, there is a 'back' arrow and a 'forward' arrow. before the latest software upgrade to firefox, i used a teeny tiny 'down' arrow that was to the right of the 'forward' arrow. when i clicked on the tiny 'down' arrow, it showed me a list of all the pages that had recently been opened; not just a website i might have been visiting, but all the pages i had navigated to on that website. i used the 'down' arrow as a shortcut to get back to a specific page which out having to click the 'back' arrow like ten times or more. i would really, really, really like for you to put that feature back, or tell me what i can do instead. thanks.

    You're welcome.

  • Back arrow does not work with SQL Server Reporting Services Reports. When one pages back from a sub report the back action appears to skip moving to the previous step. IE 8 works fine?

I have a SSRS report that has a parameter driven drop down list to select a catagory for a report to run a summary for the category in Report Manager. When the report runs there are links to a sub report with more detailed information about the category summary. Firefox runs everything correctly up to this point.
When I try to back arrow from the sub report Firefox skips the summary report page and reverts to the initial page where the sub category can be selected to run the summary report.
Can you help? IE8 works well with this but has severe spped issues with reports that contain multiple selection parameters. Firefox handles the multiple parameters very fast but has the page back issue.

  • Why does right-click & "Open Link in New Tab" make the original tab name to change to "New Tab" when I back-arrow in the original tab to reach the original page

I use Google as my home page.
When I do a search in Google I have a practice of opening the search links in a new tab by right-clicking on the link and selecting "Open Link in New Tab". That way I can examine multiple links from the search page, which is now open in the first tab.
The problem that occurs is that when I use the back-arrow in the Navagation bar to return the first tab to its original page, I find the tab name of the original page to be "New Tab" rather than "Google" and I have to click on the "Reload current page" in the Navigation bar to return the tab name to "Google".
    I'm using Firefox-25 on a Linux-Mint 64-bit platform with KDE-4.9.5.

The problem is just with the name of the tab, not with the contents of the page -- the page looks normal??
I ask about the page because Firefox 23 seems to have introduced a problem with Firefox's "fast back-forward cache" on the Google search results page. It is related to the "instant prediction results" feature interacting with Firefox is some different way. (More in this thread: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/970863?page=2#answer-485663])
    Might be related. Not sure.

  • Whenever I open a new tab or window the back arrow on the navigation bar doesn't work

When I open a new tab or window the back arrow in the navigation bar isn't highlighted and doesn't work

Do you have already visited more than one website in a tab if that happens?
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
