Back button in Photoshop's CS4 and CS5 Save as dialog is grayed

Whenever I open several photos and save them after job is done I have to manually locate save folder. Photoshop always opens default folder where picture is originally located, and doesn't offer back button where I saved last photo.
This is very frustrating, because when I open several photos from different locations I want to save them on same new location. Back button is always greyed, and recent places often doesn't serve the purpose because sometimes all subdirectories have the same filename-PHOTOS, so in recent places I have 5 places with same name.
I have this problem since CS4. This was major problem for me and I sticked to CS3. I thought it was 10.5.x problem. Later I upgraded to CS5, but problem remained. I uninstall it, upgrade to 10.6.3 SL, and reinstall CS5 but still no changes. I would really like to uninstal CS3, but cant afford to loose this functionality.
Anyone had the same problem? I tried to google it, but couldn't find anything.
Thnx
My specs (but probably doesn't matter)
Imac 2.8 Core 2 duo
4Gb RAM
10.6.3 SL
CS5 extended, v 12.0

Thanks, almost perfect!
Well basically it does change things, but this is still not functionality as in CS3. Back button is still gray, and save as opens last save position. It does help, because I don't have to scrub trough recent places, but in CS3 I could go back as far as I want. Like in web browsing, back is meant to be for getting back. Back, back, back. In fact, only time I can press back button is when I am browsing trough folders searching for new save position. When I press save, back is always gray and totally useless. Is like this to everyone? Did maybe Adobe loose that functionality?
I tried now to compare functionality from both, and CS3 even remembers position from last photo I saved minutes ago in CS5?!
My English is not so good, so I hope I am explaining clearly enough.

  • Uninstall Photoshop CS4 and CS5

    I have Photoshop CS4 and CS5 installed, CS4 also in x64 version.
    Also Acrobat Pro.
I'd like to uninstall all Photoshop stuff only, i.e. not Acrobat.
Before proceeding: will the uninstall also remove all the 'other' Photoshop matters?
    Bridge, Device Central etc.etc.
    Thanks!

    Hi
Uninstall the Adobe Creative Suite product through Add or Remove Programs Control (Windows XP) or the Programs And Features Control Panel (Windows Vista/Windows 7)
and select the program one by one and click on uninstall

  • Can I run Photoshop CS4 and CS5 on the same system?

I read somewhere a zillion years ago (right?) that you coould run CS4 and CS5 on the same system but at the time I wasn't even considering it.
Run on the same system - not ness to run at the same time
Or should I install it on a seperate drive (bootable) and go that route. What has everyone found to work and/or not work?
Thanks in advance for your help
    BJ

Yes, you can run CS4 an CS5 on the same computer.  They install in different folders and don't get in each other's way.  As a matter of fact, you will find many posts in this forum from the experts recommending to keep CS4 (or an earlier version) when installing CS5.  This way, there is no danger of losing any older plug-ins you may have that aren't compatible to CS5.
When I installed PS CS5 I had problems with my scanner driver.  Instead of spending loads of time fixing that problem, I just use PS CS4 when I want to spend an afternoon scanning things. I'm not recommending that "lazy man's" solution, but it is an example of how CS4 and CS5 can be used on the same system.

  • High pitch noise in CS4 and CS5.5

    Hello.
Firstly I want to say that yes I know people have asked this question before but as far as I can tell none of them have been solved. Some have somewhat useful answers but none of them truely solve the problem. This thread in particular probably has the most information about the problem I'm having http://forums.adobe.com/message/4298535#4298535
I recently tried Premiere Pro CS5.5 and CS4 (trial version) to replace my Corel Video Studio X6 which tried to replace Windows Movie Maker. Video Studio and Movie Maker both crash whenever I imported large video files.
Anyway I'm getting a problem where the video files I import to Premiere Pro CS4 and CS5.5 have a high pitch noise in the video preview.
It's a high pitch noise almost like it's getting feedback from something. Also when someone is supposed to be talking there's a very low distortion, like the audio started playing in very slow motion but the high pitch noise is still present.
I'll put a link at the end with the video file that's giving me trouble.
The video and audio are in a single AVI file. The video format is H264 shot at 60fps and the audio should be Mpeg-1 L2, 48khz at 320kbps. I don't know if the video's audio is in 24bit or 16bit.
I've tried different settings for premiere. Trying 60fps and 30fps for the framerate for the project. Trying 44khz and 32khz and 96khz didn't fix it. Using the "Desktop" preset in CS4 and Custom for CS5.5.
My audio hardware is a Logitech G930. It's a wireless USB headset with microphone. My motherboard audio is Realtek HD Audio. Both are enabled but I only use the headset now and nothing is being sent to the Realtek audio chip (according to Windows' sound options). The headset plays audio at 16bit 48khz.
The video file plays fine in every media program I own that can play the h264 codec. With the exception of Movie Maker and Video Studio x6. Video Studio will preview the video and audio just fine but when I try and skip around the program hangs and crashes. Movie Maker just plain crashes when I try and import the video. Some of the programs that can play the video are VLC, Media Player 11, and Media Player Classic.
I'm not sure if Final Cut Pro has the same problem. I don't have a Mac so I can't test it.
Here's a sample video that works the way it should. I pulled a BIK file from a game and converted it to H264 in AVI. Not sure what it's audio format is.

Just click the download button at the top right.
Here's an afflicted file. Not the exact specific file I have been talking about, but it has the same codecs. This one is shorter in length and smaller in size. It still has the high pitch noise, but since there is no one talking in this you don't hear the weird low pitch distortions.

If there's anymore infor you need let me know.
    Thanks.

    >single AVI file. The video format is H264
H.264 will not work inside an AVI wrapper http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854115
-Insignia camera uses H.264 to either AVI... SOME to MOV wrapper
-so use the MOV wrapper if YOUR Insignia camera offers that option
-Says VLC will convert in reply #6 http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1172956
    >can't believe a professional piece of software can't handle something this simple
As Jim said, not within the design specifications because it is non-standard video

  • Is it possible to have Indesign CS4 and CS5.5 both installed on the same Mac? 10.6.8

We have a bunch of recent Intel macs at our corporation.  Currently they should all have 10.6.8.  They were all imaged from a base image that has Adobe CS4 embedded in it.
We are now using a packaging software part of the JAMF Casper suite and AAMIE to push CS5.5 to the end users.
The problem is that we want to keep CS4 on the end user's computers in case of issues.  That way the end users can try Indesign 5.5 and see if it does everything they need to do and still have Indesign for backwards compatiblity.
So we created a CS5.5 install package using the AAMIE tool which works fine.  We then use Casper to spam the package out to a Mac.
The issue that arises is that a few Plugin errors occur during the lauch of Indesign CS5.5 such as:
Adobe inDesign does not recognize InCopy Bridge UI.InDesignPlugin as a valid plug-in.
Adobe InDesign does not recognize InCopyExport.InDesignPlugin as a valid plug-in.
Adobe InDesign does not recognize InCopyExportUI.InDesignPlugin as a valid plug-in.
Adobe InDesign does not recognize InCopyImport.InDesignPlugin as a valid plug-in.
There was one more plugin error that occured before the first one but I forgot to write it down.
If we click okay to them, the application launches okay but when you quit and relaunch it, you still get one of the errors.
Is this because both applications are installed at the same time?
Is it offically okay as per Adobe to have Indesign CS4 and CS5.5 installed on the same Macintosh?
What else should we be considering what to do?

Well currently, I'm just testing this issue.  I just installed the trial version of  Adobe CS4 suite on my mac and then deployed the CS5.5 package on top off it  The resulting errors that I listed above are the same ones that occur when the end user has a licensed volume license install of CS4 and CS5.5.
So I'm still back to square 1 where when I deploy cs5.5 on an  end user's mac, they get those plugin errors when they launch Indesign CS5.5.
I am not sure about the licensing restrictions, I asked my Director and he is going to check with our VAR.

  • File size comparisons, InDesign CS3, CS4 and CS5?

    Hi, all.
It seems there was a trend for several major releases where each time Adobe released a new version of InDesign and InCopy, average file sizes grew by 20% or so from the old release to the new release, at least back in the older CS days. Has this trend continued, such that file sizes in CS4 are substantially larger than file sizes from CS3, and CS5 files are substantially larger than those from CS4?
Adobe, of course, wants to keep writing functionality that will keep the user community coming back to buy in to upgrades. The added functionality sometimes comes at a cost beyond the price tag. If file sizes are larger in a newer version, then page saves over a network or to a database are likely to be slower, and user productivity takes a hit while users are waiting for files to be saved.
Has anyone done any testing to build the "same" page in multiple versions of InDesign to understand what the effect is on the file sizes? I'm specifically interested in the file sizes between InDesign CS3, CS4 and CS5. To be meaningful, the test page would have to be at least moderately complex, with a couple of photos, multiple text elements and so forth. By "same," the page wouldn't take advantage of new functionality in newer versions but would be saved as a native page of the current version, though the file sizes may be bloated by the new functionality like it or not.
If you've done any testing along these lines, I'd like to hear more about it.
    Thanks.
       Mark

The overall structure of ID's files have been exactly the same for -- as far as I can see back -- CS. No change at all, in there.
There have been significant additions to the 'global' spaces; stuff like InCopy user data, table styles, object styles, and cross references. Each of these add a major chunk of data to each file, whether you use it or not, plus a few bytes per object (again, whether you use them or not -- ID also needs to know where you did not use them, that's why). I think these might be the main source of 'global' file size increase (a single object style in one of my files, for example, eats up a healthy chunk of 11,482 bytes).
For the rest, all new stuff like 'span columns' is a handful of bytes per paragraph style. Tracking changes may very well double the size of text runs -- but 1 character takes up 1 byte of storage (plus perhaps some overhead of indicating its 'tracking' status). Any single measurement unit always uses 8 bytes at least (for example, the left inset for a column span -- even if it's not used, or set to 0pt).
I think we're talking about a couple of K's here (oh -- perhaps a max of a hundred or so), in a file format that has been designed around the concept of "disk pages", each 4K big, meaning that sometimes adding one single character to a text box increases the file size by 4 K.
Your idea of comparing the size of a file created in CS3 against the same saved as CS4 and as CS5 is certainly feasible -- I might try it some time, just to confirm it's purely the extra 'new objects' data that accounts for the size increase and to confirm my guesstimates of the number of Ks involved.

  • CS4 and CS5 Plugin Issue!

Having a major problem with Chameleon and CS4 and CS5. When I run the program out of CS4 or CS5:
    1) The Grab Fragment seems to work.
    2) When I open another photo and run Chameleon , Make Collage, I get
    1. Unhandled exception! Crash dump saved to c:\users\public\documents\akvis\crashdump.
Please help! I’m running version 6.0.1253.3084-r
    I now get amessage stating:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error.
App terminated in an Unusual way.
    Contact app support
I used to run in CS4 however it does not run at all. I'm wondering if a Visual C file got corrupted.
    Thanks,
    Rudy

Without knowing exactly what the bug is in the Akvis code, I don't know.
But some third party plugins always need an update when new versions of Photoshop are released (especially those that try to modify Photoshop's UI).
We work hard to maintain plugin API compatibility, and most plugins work just fine in new versions, but there are always some problems to work out in third party plugin code.
(Macintosh plugins are going through a lot of problems in CS5 because we had to change the UI toolkit used, and many assumptions made by plugin UI code no longer hold)

  • Compatability between CS4 and CS5 Flash?

    Hi
I'm working off  CS4 and using mainly Premiere Pro. I'm also using Photoshop, Flash,  Soundbooth from CS4 and using files from those applications in Premiere  Pro. All good so far. My projects have a few layers but really nothing  too complicated.
I work with someone who will eventually  create the flash elements of our projects. To do this the company  ordered further licenses for CS4 but we received CS5 instead.
If she loads CS5 onto her computer and creates Flash files (CS5) that I then use in Premiere Pro CS4, will it be compatible?
Also, if I want to then adjust that CS5 flash file in Flash CS4, will that work, or will I encounter problems?
Should we go with the CS5 or try and get another copy of CS4 for the new computer? (My computer needs to stay CS4)
    Thanks

So as far as Premiere is concerned you are importing Quicktime MOV files from Flash?
When you import MOV files into Flash they are frame-by-frame animations taking up frames on the timeline, either on the main stage or in a Movie Clip.  There is a limit in Flash in general to the number of frames you can have in a single animation, something like 16000 or 12000 frames.  Depending on your fps this could be a relatively short or longer amount of time that the animation will play.  I don't think there will be as many issues importing and exporting between Premiere Pro and Flash as there are with Flash CS4 and CS5 itself.  TLF is a framework for laying out text (Text Layout Framework) which allows you some functionality of InDesign-style text-box layouts such as multi-columns, tracking and kerning, etc.

  • Fontproblems and fontcaches in Illustrator CS4 and CS5

    Hello all,
I've been having a serious and severe problem using Ilustrator and fonts.
As this is a very complex problem to explain, I'll try to make it easy to understand.
First I'll tell you the specifications and software used:
Imac 27 inch running  MAC OS X 10.6.7 with follow software:
    Illustrator CS4 + Illustrator CS5, both installed
Fontreserve (running a central server and macs connect through a MAC-client) http://www.extensis.com/en/support/font-reserve.jsp
So we use an external third party fontsoftware to manage and activate our fonts used in Illustrator.
We only have the required system fonts installed on our systems.
We recently ran in a big issue concerning fonts within Illustrator.
I'll try to explain what the problem really is ...
So normally we boot up Illustrator and we activate our fonts in fontreserve.
The fonts get loaded in Illustrator. So that does work like it should.
But the problem begins when we deactivate fonts.
Font reserve does deactivate them and in Illustrator the deactivated fonts are gone or so it seems ...
After a restart, I only start Illustrator. So our client fontreserve stays closed.
I opened the job I worked on before the restart and Illustrator opens the document and loads the fonts.
You read it right, Illustrator does find all the fonts which, before the restart, were deactivated.
Where does he gets those fonts?
So I started to investigate and tried a couple of things.
    1) I physically moved the fontreserve-plugin out Illustrator so it will not be loaded on startup.
That didn't fix it because Illustrator still finds the fonts.
    2) I physically plugged out the network cable to be sure Illustrator could not contact our fontserver.
Sadly he still did find the fonts.
    3) I used "Tweak Freak" to clear my fontcaches. I also searched for "AdobeFnt" to clean out the cache from Adobe itself.
    This did not work either.
    4) I tried opening the document again but this time in CS5. And guess what? Illustrator CS5 asks for all the fonts that are missing, which is correct because not one font has been activated.
Strangly enough I decided to reopen Illustrator CS4 (Illustrator CS5 still beiing open as well), and suddenly Illustrator CS4 asks for the fonts too?
A minute ago he still found all the fonts and after opening Illustrator CS5, it does not ...
So Adobe what is the connection between Illustrator CS4 and CS5?
And where does Illustrator store its fontcache?
It would be nice to run a script on shutdown te delete all possible fontcaches.
So after spending a couple of hours fixing this problem, it seems that I still don't quite understand where the problem lies.
    I'm hoping you can.
As this is an urgent matter, I hope to get an answer or support as soon as possible.
    Thanks in advance.

You should be able to see what files Adobe Illustrator has open by using the Activity Monitor.app application.
To do so, open the Activity Monitor application (it's in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder). Locate Adobe Illustrator in the list and then double-click on it. This should open up a new window like shown in the image below:
Switch to the Open Files and Ports tab, and it should list every open file that Illustrator is using.

  • Installation/uninstall issues between CS4 and CS5

I had CS4 installed. I purchased CS5 (downloaded it) installed that.  When I got the disks via mail, I tried to install that version (disk version).  I started having issues as to which program would open a .prproj file.  Often the CS4 version of Premiere Pro opened.  Not what I wanted.  I eventually uninstalled CS5 entirely and then reinstalled.  Then things were working fine.  However, I then tried to uninstall CS4.  (I have seen from numerous posts/comments to leave both on -- which I really don't know why.  Doesn't make sense to keep both versions).  I prefer not to have an extra 4GB of space used for programs I am no longer using.  However, in doing so, the uninstall didn't appear to do a perfect job.  And now I can't double-click a .prproj file.  This icon is also blank white.  I went into Set Associations and I can't assign .prproj to Premiere CS5.  In looking at the Open With window, I notice that some of the icons for other Adobe programs are all splewy (Adobe Encore is using the CS4 icon, Adobe Illustrator is using the PDF icon, Flash Catalyst is using the Air icon, etc.)
I could: a) uninstall everything, including Adobe Acrobat Pro (which I had purchased and installed prior to CS4 or CS5) and then reinstall everything -- sheesh that would take a while; or b) I could ask my friends here to explain and guide me!

    Hi Stix, Thanks.
I am not so positive that there is no difference between the download version vs the media version specifcially because in downloading the updates, the site demands you choose your update depending on how your software was installed.  I figured that the download would be smaller.  Perhaps you are right. And maybe it is the same, in either case, when I get a stack of disks, I tend to think there is more on the disk and the download version is merely the core applications.
Anyway, I had to uninstall everything CS4 and CS5 and then reinstall CS5.  Oddly, this didn't automatically fix my problem.  However, at least I was able to choose Premiere CS5 to open .prproj files and check off the box to use it as the default. (I wasn't able to before).  So now it works!

  • InDesign CS4 and CS5 scripting on Windows 7 unstable

Hello, have not found any solutions to our previous issues with RPC errors while scripting InDesign CS4 and CS5 on Windows 7.
Even more problematic, I just installed a trial version of InDesign CS5 on Windows 7, created a small JavaScript script that places a counter text from 1 to 10.000 in a one page, one frame document and found out this crashes when the counter is at around 4500 or so. This was the same issue with CS4, that's why I tried CS5.
These scripts run fine with CS4 on Windows XP and Vista. So what is the problem with scripting Indesign on Windows 7 ? Are there any settings that should be changed in Windows 7 to create a more stable situation ? Need to allocate more memory somehow ?
Anxious to know, for now I try avoiding Windows 7.
    Roelof Janssen

Shouldn't be a problem but you should be aware that if you upgrade to CS5.5 now you'll get a free upgrade to CS6 when it ships.

When using Firefox as my browser, my "back" button no longer works? And by the way...getting help is a real pain in the butt on this site!!!!!

    see -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Kill_application
which explains how to completely exit (quit) your Mozilla application
    Try closing Firefox completely
*Close Firefox properly '''File > Exit''', not with the "X" which just closes the window.
*Use the Windows Task Manager "Processes" tab to make sure that firefox.exe is not running and also that the plugin-container.exe is not running.
If that does not work, try restarting the system.
If still no luck try restoring bookmarks from last backup, or better create your own .json backup and restore from that.
*''If you had to go this far, please provide feedback if restoring bookmarks alone fixed the problem. I think I may have done that once with success, but never see that suggested -- I'd try most anything to not lose history or bookmarks. But then I could restore files from my profile and restore latest bookmarks backup from current profile.''
The following will result in complete loss of history if it comes down to deleting places.sqlite, so rename files rather than deleting. With Firefox down.
Of course you have backups of your profile you could replace rename and
    replace those files instead.

  • Can I use both CS4 and CS5 separately so as to use Version Cue ?

I am thinking about buying CS5 to keep up to date.
I cannot do without Version Cue which is only CS4.
Can I buy the upgrade and run them to take advantage of both ?

Yes, you can run both CS4 and CS5 simultaneously, however, you must first launch CS5, then launch CS4. I don't know much about Version Cue or whether it would still work in a CS4/5 workflow, but you could always try the 30-day CS5 Trial as a test.

  • The back button does not work consistently, and rarely works if I open an attachment...any ideas on fixing this?

The back button does not work consistently, and rarely if ever when I open an attachment. Does anyone have a fix for this?
    == This happened ==
    Not sure how often
    == I installed firefox

Same problem here: I never had a problem with the previous versions and now I don't even get my homepage when I click Firefox. Instead, I am getting a blank screen that says "New Tab", only after I click the "Home" symbol I get my Homepage (Yahoo). The browser - back and browser forward button don't work anymore, very annoying. Normally a newer version should be an improvement but it looks like Mozilla really messed up with this "improvement". probably I am going to use Google chrome from now on.

  • Contribute 6.5 can not ftp after years of no issues with CS4 and CS5

    The problem
Contribute 6.5 can not connect via ftp using settings that formerly worked (and still do) in CS4 and CS5.
    How we ended up here
I am the administrator website where
Our content editors have been using Contribute CS 4 and Contribute CS 5 without issue, 6+ years.
We are trying to upgrade to CS 6.5 to better support HTML5 markup now used within the site.
When attempting to configure a website connection in 6.5, Contribute alerts:
"Contribute cannot find the website files on the server. Please contact the website's administrator for assistance."
After closing the dialog box the failed connection is removed from contributes website connection list.
We have a shared hosting account and utilize ftp to publish changes.
Server is Win2008 with IIS 7.5
Again it's shared hosting, so read/write ftp are scoped to our account's directory.
We attempted this on serveral pcs including on a PC with a fresh install of Windows 7.
We can still connect successfully via ftp with CS4, CS5, dreamweaver, and Filezilla.
Which is why I believe this to be a Contribute 6.5 issue.
I've attempted the following troubleshooting articles:
Use network I/O logging to log operations, identify problems
I compared the I/O logging for both CS5 and CS 6.5 which both appear to log the same diagnostic steps.
Contribute FTP Server Checker (quite dated)
    All successes reported. No failures.
Troubleshooting a Connection CS4 (linked from with CS 6.5's help UI)
As indicated above, alternate FTP clients have no issue.
This appears to be similar issue to the following posts:
5301620 - HELP - FTP Connection Error with Contribute 6.5
5907180 - Contribute 6.5 can no longer connect to sites ...
Unfortunately, there has been no solutions posted on either of these threads.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I can PM the network I/O log details if there is adobe staff who can get them in the right hands.
(Again the logs only show successes.)

    @Zaldomoh
Have you found a solution or been given assistance from Adobe to resolve this issue? I'm having the same problem (CS 6.5 ftp'ing to a shared hosting enviroment). Details of our situation can be found on thread 1384686
