Back facing camera doesn't work!

My back facing camera on my ipad2 doesn't work. The shutter will not open to take pics or video. I have tried rebooting iPad and resetting it and nothing works! I was hoping for an at home fix instead of sending it in cause I'm afraid to lose some photos I put on ipad2 from my computer cause I recently lost my hard drive! I can't back those ones up with i cloud or iTunes ( I don't think so anyways). Thanks, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Dian-
You should take care of the photos first, before you worry about the camera.  Once you get your computer repaired (or get a new one) you need to get it authorized for your Apple ID, and find a way to back up the iPad without erasing it.
Search for an Apple Authorized Repair Center near you.  They should be able to advise you on how to save your photos.  (I see that there is Capitol Macintosh in Lansing, MI.)

  • Front facing camera doesn't work

The camera stopped working..screen stays black regardless whether it is on video, front or rear facing camera.. Help

Quit the camera app completely and restart your iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that does not work, you can try this.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Canon mini Disk camera doesn't work if external drive connected

A long story.      Anyway, I have a MacPro Intel Dual Core 266 Ghz with 5 Gbs RAM,  4 internal hard drives HD1~HD4 (HD1 OSX 250 and three 500Gb) and two external HD5 (two partitions~HD5 & Time Machine Backups) and HD6 (1 Tb each).
I've been using a Canon mini DV video camera FV-M10 (Firewire 400) for live video (Skype/iChat) and also for importing video into Final Cut Express, After Effects or iMovie up until a few days ago.  Both "live" video and from the recorded mini cassette tape.  Then all of a sudden not one of the software recognized my camera anymore.  I tried both Firewire 800/400 and USB2 connections using a few different cables. In Skype...(sometimes) it automatically shows the name FV-M10 in the camera slot, but the screen is black.  No, I checked if I left the cover on.  I checked my Sony WX-5 digital camera and see if that is recognized.  Yes, both pics and AVCHD videos are seen using the USB connection.
    The problem started like this.
I was downloading a file.  Had to work for an hour and when I came back upstairs.  I noticed that the screen was frozen.   So, I shut the Mac down.  And when I started it again, well nothing happened except for a grey screen.  A half~sized cursor was stuck up in the top left.  But, my mouse also had a cursor which was movable.
It wouldn't even recognize the OSX Install Disk holding down "C" or "Option".  Only starting with "Shift" held down, "Safe Boot"  could I use the basics like Mail, Safari, Firefox.   NO sound and no video. Tried a few times as well as cleaned my OSX HD1 hard drive and re-installed from "Safe Boot" mode".   So, I had it sent into Apple Tokyo for repairs.   Apple put in a new board.     Great!      I came it back in two days.   I cleaned the OSX hard drive and re-installed Mac OSX with the up-dates as well and got some of my main backed up stuff Mail, bookmarks, address book etc.   It started fine.     But, when I went to use Skype, iChat, iMovie or Final Cut Express  they still couldn't recognize my camera.  I had been using the Canon FV M10 camera for a few years with both external hard drives on.  There were never any problems until just before I sent it into the shop.
There was only one way to use my camera.  Un-Plug the external HD6.  Then the camera functions fine.  but remember I had been using this camera with both HD's for around two years without any problems.
Notes on symptoms:  and what actions I took.
Front connections: FW400 Canon camera.  FW800 (Tried connecting HD6)
    Rear Connections: USB2 1) MidiMan 2 x2   2) mouse  3) Canon Printer
                                   FW400 HD5  FW800 (tried HD6)
    With HD6 Connected.
iMovie 11 9.02 : Start iMovie  O.K.  No camera on.   Turned camera "on" then "No Camera Connected" notice came up.   (did this a few times)   Turned camera off.   Quit iMovie.
2nd start:  Camera On.   iMovie freezes.   Spinning Colored beach ball.   I then Force Quit Option-Apple-ESC
iMovie shows (not responding)  When I turn off the camera.  (not responding) disappears and iMovie is working again.  But, "No Camera Connected" shows again.  Quit!
    Un-Plugged (Ejected) HD6.
When I un-plugged HD6,    (tried both the front and rear connections).   iMovie still on.
"No Camera Connected"  I Quit iMovie.
Re-start iMovie:  Camera on… Live video and record miniDV tape can both be seen.
Skype:  Both live video and mini DV tape recording even plays back over Skype screen.
    iChat (same as Skype) O.K.
Since Apple replaced the board 661-3932 Card Video, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT which cost just about $X00.00  (¥XX,000).   I assume that they don't also check all the connections etc. I mean from the connector to the video board.
The call to Apple Tokyo today.
Just talked to Apple (Mac) Tokyo about my computer problem.  Seems like they're trying to squeeze their way of more repairs by saying I have a hard drive configuration problem.   But it doesn't seem like that!   I worked with it 2~3 hours today...and  here is the basic problem.
I've used the Canon FV M10 mini DV camera with Skype, iChat, iMovie and FCEx for few  years  (HD6) is over a year old-the most recent add on) with no problem.    With both external 1Tb hard drives.  And Apple said that it's a 3-party problem.  (different makers etc.)  But, it's NOT!     Yes, they put in a new board.   But, I'd say the problem is from the connection (where I plug the cable into the Mac)  to the board.
When I connect HD6 (1Tb ext hard drive).   FW 800 (either back or front connection) the video camera doesn't work in  Skype, iChat, iMovie, or Final Cut Express.     If I eject and Un-Plug HD6  all of them work fine.  The camera "live" or the camera playing back the mini DV tape video.
Wouldn't this be a problem between the connections (front & back) to the new video board?  Or does anyone have an answer.   Apple seems to have said, "We can't help you".   Please someone help!  thanks

+My mini isn't responding to startup commands like "C" or "D" from the keyboard.+
You'll need a wired usb keyboard for these commands to work -- and the Apple Aluminum keyboard won't work either.
But just about any PC usb keyboard will work. Alt maps to Option and Win-key to CMD.

  • Camera doesn't work in FaceTime

When Face-timing, my camera doesn't work (I have no image of myself). The box is there, but it is always black (i.e., the person I am face-timing can't see me).
The camera works fine outside of FaceTime.
I just reset the IPod touch and now the camera on the opposite side of the screen works, but not the screen side. Also, the Non Screen side camera tends to freeze.
    Thoughts?

I do not know what you mean by reset. Try the following if you have not done so already:
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • My camera doesn't work + it doesn't recognize external cameras. what's the problem here?

I set up a new windows 7 version for my laptop (probook 4510s) & the camera doesn't work + it doesn't recognize any external camera. So how to fix my camera & get it back to work?

What kind of external camera is this? I am assuming it is a USB camera? Make sure that you aren't using any USB hubs. Also try connecting it to another USB port. Have you installed the drivers from the camera manufacturer yet?
    Thanks,

    Hello Kunmon,
The following article provides some useful troubleshooting that can help get your iPhone's camera working correctly.
Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:
Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

  • Droid 3 problems - Cell standby eats up a ton of battery - camera doesn't work - more in thread.

I am making a post regarding this problem because it seems only new posts get a response from VZW reps. Before you ask, yes I have used the battery saving tips - this is clearly a problem with cell standby and wifi. They are, by far, the biggest consumers of the battery. I don't know what's going on here but this should not be happening. Even on the unpatched Thunderbolt the battery life wasn't this bad. This battery problem is clearly not because of any third party apps, even with no accounts set up and nothing installed, the battery drains very quickly.
The camera doesn't work right, and regularly freezes. When it does work, it's very blue. I am told this is a known issue and the patch is on the way I'm told.
The stock keyboard's suggestion bar often stays on the screen no matter what, regardless of whether I am typing or not.
The Droid 3 does NOT charge off my car's USB cable, every other phone and mobile device I've tried does, however, so this is clearly an issue with the phone.
The stock homescreen lags and redraws often.
The pre-installed apps that I don't want or use, are using up a big chunk of memory (and certainly not helping already abysmal battery life). If they are killed, they just start themselves again. They cannot be uninstalled. If Verizon wants to give us extra apps, great, but allow us to uninstall them.
I received this as a replacement phone because the previous replacement phone was having issues. I've gotten dozens of replacement phones and ALL of them have had problems. Whatever steps are being taken to ensure these phones work properly do not ensure that people are getting a working phone. This process needs to be revised. The premium price we as Verizon customers pay should translate to our customer experience.
    -A very frustrated customer.

I've had a Droid 3 for about a month. I think it's a really good phone, but cell standby and phone idle are the biggest consumers of battery life on my phone. The camera is slow to load and the images have a blue tint sometimes. When surfing the web or the app store and exiting afterwards, the main screen can take 8 - 16 seconds to materialize. When surfing through the Social Messaging (NonBlur) widget, it repeats things you've already read when you check it later on and when replying to comments via the Social Messaging widget, they don't always post. The back cover squeaks now from removing it occasionally to pull the battery when the phone freezes up. For being a 1G dual core processor phone, you would never know it. I've also had problems with the suggestion bar remaining on the screen even after you press the space bar. The app store is maddeningly slow to load. The indicator next to my battery charging port doesn't work, well it flickered once. I haven't had issues with Bluetooth or wifi as some have. My GPS seems to work well.
The bloatware on the phone is ridiculous. I don't use any of the Verizon apps or other preloaded apps. They take up a lot of the useable space on the phone and can't be removed. I really don't care about an NFL app....and I can't remove it or anything else. Verizon should give you the option of removing the apps you won't use. It would be a good customer service move. Instead, I think its selfish to make us live with apps that take up space and slow the phone down. This phone comes with Android 2.3.4 which is the fastest version of Android right now....I can honestly say that my Droid X with 2.2 was faster on the move than this phone. However, after downloading 2.3.3, it ruined the phone and a replacement.
I think if a software update addresses most of these issues, the Droid 3 would be outstanding. The hardware keyboard is the best on the market and I love the 4 inch screen. I pay $100 + a month for service through Verizon. I think the phone should operate as promised. The 8 megapixel camera is slow to load and focus. My old Droid X had a good 8MP camera sensor. Lesser phones have great cameras. My boss' iphone 4 takes WAY better pics with a 5MP camera. I know it's a software issue and that it can be resolved. Make this phone world class by working with Motorola to deliver a quality software update.
I stick with Verizon because of their reliable coverage. If this phone doesn't get addressed with a software update, I'll look at a WP7 phone or something on Sprint (better prices on data etc) or Virgin Mobile which has some decent phones and dirt cheap messaging and data plans.

  • Front camera doesn't work! Battery dies super fast!

Hello! I received my ipod touch 5th generation as a bday gift in November 2012 and I'm having a couple of issues with it. First the battery dies really fast. I have wifi on all the time and I dunno if this is the issue, but using music playback for about 4-5 hrs/day and reading/instagram/fb/WWF for like 1-2 hrs, it lasts about 15 - 20 hrs. I think there has to be a problem because my touch 3rd gen lasted longer basically doing the same thing. And if I play a video for <1hr, the battery lasts less than 12 hrs. That's one thing. Also, a couple of times both the front and back camera have frozen up, and for about a week now, the front camera doesn't work. When I switch to it, it closes up as if it's taking a picture, but it never opens up again, it just stays there. This is for video and camera. The front one just doesnt work. PLEASE HELP! I'm obssesed with this thing and I'm really disappointed by these features. I dunno what to do. And the worst is that after I try to switch to the front camera, I can't switch back. I have to restart the ipod to be able to use the back camera, because it just doesn't do anything.

    For the camera problem
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

  • I updated iphone 4 to ios 7.1 and the camera doesn't work. what can I do?

i updated iphone 4 to ios 7.1 and the camera doesn't work. what can I do?

First, try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches after installing new software or apps.
If this does not help, and to rule out a software issue, set it up as new device without using the latest backup, in case that backup contains corrupt data.
Is the camera working after that, restore from the backup. Is the camera still not working, this might be a hardware failure and you'll have to get the phone serviced by Apple:

    Hey there biloute35,
If you still have not been able to use the front facing camera, I would like to recommend the troubleshooting in the following article:
Get help with the camera on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you see a closed lens or black screen when you open the Camera app, try these steps:
Make sure that there’s nothing blocking the camera lens. If you’re using a case, try removing it.
Force the app to close, then open the Camera app again.
Restart your device, then open the Camera app again.
If your device has a front and rear camera, try both cameras by tapping  (camera swap icon). If you see the closed lens or black screen on only one camera, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Service Provider for more help.
