Back from warranty repair - no power on light on front

Just got my Rev A back from the dr... had both a power supply and logic board transplant done under the extended warranty. However I see ... or rather don't see, the power on light on the front right corner of the computer. Is this just something that didn't get plugged back in with the logic board replacement and is something that I can easily do... or do I need to lug my 20" machine back in?
Perhaps it is just because I missed it, but it does seem to be running faster!

OK! Guess what? This appears to be a COMMON event that has appeared on some of the repair discussion boards but apparently Apple hasn't acknowledged it yet...
Even more interesting is that the new Intel 2 Dual Core iMacs I have at school (one a 17 inch, one a 20 inch) have the same 'feature'...neither show the light when in sleep mode, yet the 24 inch one at the store when I have my repairs done does.
Needless to say my repair person is perplexed. This has just happened since I had both the power supply AND the logic board replaced under the extended warranty...
I will look in some of the other discussions and see if anyone there has heard of this new 'feature'!

I just got my Mac back from Apple repair and I can't burn a disc. What do I need to do to make that happen?

    Hello deneye2112,
Thank you for providing the details of the burning issue you are experiencing.  I found some resources that I think might help:
First, I recommend resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac (I wasn't sure if you had a removable battery or a built in battery, so I listed the steps for both):
Resetting the SMC on Mac portables with a battery you can remove
Note: Learn about removing the battery on MacBook and MacBook Pro.
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your ownNote: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

What do I do when I get my iPhone back from the repair center?

If it was replaced then you should be able to restore a back up of your phone

If you received a note it will tell you what they found and why they could not repair. It depends on the situation

  • Once back from Apple repair, is my iPhone 5 still locked to my Apple ID?

Once back from Apple repair (sleep/wake button replacement), is my iPhone 5 still locked to my Apple ID?  I have a 6 now and I want to sell my 5, but I don't want to sell it before knowing whether or not it is locked to my Apple ID and can't be used by a new user.  Thanks.

How do you not know if you're using your own Apple ID on the device?

  • My laptop is running slow after getting it back from HP repair

I brought my Laptop to HP for repair because the hinges were detached from the pc. After I got it back the problem was fixed but now my laptop is running slow. The windows booting is slower, the internet is slower, the entire computer freezes up once and awhile for a total of 10 seconds, my  programs and apps take longer to display on the screen. I did an anti virus and malware scan, all came back good. I did a clean windows install, I did a disk defragment, a registry clean, a Ccleaner clean up, driver update,  but nothing is fixing the issue. I did 2 very long hard drive tests, one in the bios, and one using a downloaded software and all came back as passing but I suspect it has to be the hard drive. I did a memory test incase it might be a Ram issue but that also passed.

Edit: I also forgot to mention that after recieving my laptop back from HP they gave me a paper that says what was replaced on my laptop. It was the motherboard, hard drive, optical disk drive, and the broken plastic that caused hinges to come off.
They changed all that because of some broken hinges?????
Please indicate the full model of your computer g7-xxxxx
Are Windows updates up to date and are you using Win 8 or 8.1?
What AV program are you using?
How long has this been going on and could you send a screen shot of the Startup items in Task Manager?

  • Just got my MacBook back from 2nd repair

I just got my MacBook back today. It just had its 2nd logic board replacement because of the random shutdown issue.
When I picked up my computer, they also replaced the Top Case Housing and the Keyboard. Why would the replace this? Does the keyboard and top housing have anything to do with the random shutdown?
Anyways, I will see if my random shutdown comes back. I surely hope not.

Oh ok. I noticed the feel of it is a bit different
    than before.
Another question. I have CoreDuoTemp opened, my
computer has been on for 30mins and it only shows
22-27C. Is this correct? Or is CoreDuoTemp
    malfunctioning?
At 30mins, my MacBook was at least at 45C always.
It's an Intel processor design fault. I got this info from the Hardware Monitor developer.
Q: I have a Mac with an Intel Core Solo or Core Duo processor.
Sometimes, the temperature readings seems to "hang" and are no longer
being refreshed. Is this a problem with the application?
A: No, this problem is caused by an internal design flaw of current
versions of Intel Core processors. The Digital Thermal Sensors may
stop working when the processor returns from a C3/C4 power saving
state. Intel plans to correct this hardware bug for future steppings
    of the CPU.
Intel refers to this hardware problem as Erratum AE18. For detailed
information, please see Intel document 30922204

  • Windows says not genuine after laptop returned from warranty repair

I sent my laptop off for a power supply repair after it failed. It's now back and seems fine but it says windows is not genuine even after I run the online checker. Any thoughts? Back to toshiba (Again)?

    > Any thoughts?
In my opinion you have two options only:
-install recovery image using recovery disc if you have one
-if you dont have recovery disc order it by Toshiba
Bringing back to Toshiba will not help much I think. I dont think they have recovery discs for all Toshiba notebook models. I presume they have installed OS for testing purposes only.

  • Got my Mac back from Apple Repair... now TimeMachine is messed up!

I'm hoping this is something "routine" and some of you smart folks can help me out.
I recently had to send my MacBook Pro to Apple Care for repair (a whole other story! The LCD died...), when I got it back I noticed a couple of strange things:
    1. my iTunes told me I had to authorize my "new" computer (no problem. I can deal with this, it doesn't impact my work. It's just a bit odd.)
    2. my Time Machine backups stopped working. (This is a much bigger problem, since now I'm working without backups).
    Here's the situation:
Time Machine preferences shows me my regular backup destination drive (it's called "total-backup" by the way, and it's a big ol' Firewire drive.)
It says "Oldest Backup: --".. as in NO oldest backup. But when I look at the drive out in the finder, there's a folder there sure enough named "Backups.backupdb" which takes up many GB.
That folder now contains two subfolders:
    - one is called "My Computer" , which itself contains many folders named with dates. This appears to be my old backups folder.
    - the other is called "My Computer 2" and it contains only an odd 8 KB thing named "2008-04-26-182146.inProgress" which contains the date I got my computer back! (And also shows you how long I've been working without backup!)
    Here are my two questions:
    - How do I point Time Machine to the correct backup set?
    - And is it okay for me to just manually delete that "My Computer 2" folder off the backup drive?

In all likelihood, your logic board was replaced during the repair. There's a MAC address (Media Access Control) embedded in every networkable device that gives a unique ID to every device; the Mac's MAC (name similarity only coincidental) address is on the logic board.
iTunes authorization is keyed to the MAC address; so are your Time Machine backup files.
You can't change the MAC address, since it's hardware, but you can change the record of the MAC address in the Time Machine files so they'll be recognized by what it thinks is a new computer. It take Terminal (and guts).. the info is here: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080128003716101
I don't think that article says to back up your Time Machine files before you start mucking about with them, but that might be a good idea. You may have room for a zipped duplicate right on the backup drive, so that'd be a good thing to do first.

  • JUST BACK FROM THE REPAIR CENTER AND THE SENSOR IS...

    This is ridiculas now.
My phone was just away for two weeks, and the problem is still there!  the screen is black in a call and it will not come back!!
THIS IS A PROBLEM THEY MUST SOLVE, NOT JUST BLAME IT ON A SCREEN PROTECTOR.
My phone dosent even have a screen protector, and I know where the sensor is. its totally clean and unobstructed.
    What do I do now?!

Tbh I think that nokia repair centres are useless.
My phone bricked itself, I took it to a repair centre on the 28th of December, and have just found out They cannot fix it, and are sending it back to the store. They also put a red nokia 920 in as a black 900
Absolutely pathetic service, especially when you add in that i didnt get a temp phone, so i was without a mobile for a week and half, till i got back to my trusty n8.

  • I-pod mini back from repair

Just got it back from second repair - battery faulty this time - click wheel first time - wont' charge , wont even come on!
"How crap is that?" (as my daughter said, its her machine - I have more sense than to own one!!)
Does anybody have any ideas short of getting it an early visit to meet its maker via a large sledgehammer!
    i-pod mini

Does the iPod do anything at all, or is the screen blank, no matter what you do?
Have you tried doing a quick reset? This can be done by holding down the Select and Menu buttons together for about 5 seconds.
See this Apple Support document for full reset instructions.
Also, try doing a reset with and without the iPod plugged into a power source if one method doesn't work.

  • Re-naming itouch back from repair

How do you re-name your itouch? I just got it back from being repaired and they re-named it there...any idea? I've tried all setup changes I can find but no luck...
    Thanks!

double click on the ipod name in itunes (when it is plugged in and appears on the left hand side) - you can change it there just like you would change the name of a playlist

  • Recieved my iMac 27 inch back from Apple with a blank Hard drive

Need to reinstall os10.7 on my reformatted 27 iMac, that I just got back from apple repair, how is that done whith out installation disks?

Take back to Apple Repair.  Be polite, but firm, in your desire to have a functioning system.
After it is working, then get a self-powered external drive, and make a CarbonCopyClone *bootable* backup of your system.  That way the Genius Bar can send it back anytime they want blank and you will have no issues.

  • Mac OSX 10.6.8 Garage Band '11. This error happens occasionally : I am forced to power-off-on.  Pop-up states that error info will be sent to apple. I never hear back from apple. Second prob: Fan sometimes comes on, runs high speed, then slowly stops.

Garage Band '11: pop-up error forces me to power off-on. Message states that info will be sent to Apple.
I never hear back from anyone about this.
Second prob: Fan sometimes comes on, runs high speed, then slowly runs down and stops running.

First thing to do is a SMC Reset, you can find instructions at:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!!!!
Then try Repairing Disk Permissions, do this at least 2x. You will find this in Disk Utility which is located in Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility.
Finally you may need to uninstall Garage Band and reinstall. You may have to use Pacifist to do this, you can find it at:
