Back... in orange

Hey all,
Long time no see. I just acquired a Tangerine iMac, rev. C. It's quite a dandy, it was in the back room of a small store that was closing. I asked, it was $25, and the CD drive didn't work. Well, the CD drive works, but it has a dead clock battery. However, it only has 32MB of RAM. What's the low-down on RAM for these suckers?
Second, today I unplugged it and moved it. I had done this yesterday and it wasn't phased. Well, today, it refused to power up. Upon testing the battery (which read nothing on the multimeter), I pressed the CUDA button. It fired up. I plan on replacing the battery tomorrow, but why would it behave like this with a dead battery? Is this common for tray loaders? Slot loaders will run even without a battery at all.
Any other comments for opening these suckers up?
Now I can post here and actually have an iMac G3. That's cool.
Kyle-

1. A tray-loading iMac has two RAM slots, which will each accept a single PC66 or faster 144-pin SO-DIMM. The maximum amount of memory which can be installed is 512MB.
2. See this thread for some information on the dead battery.

  • My upgrade and phone number has been reversed back to orange..no signal

Hi My contract and number were reversed from EE back to Orange on the 9th July I've gone back to a iphone 4s after the wrong upgrade handset was sent out...an iphone 6. I still have no signal.  The text I received from EE said this would be done on the 9th and no-one I speak to at CS seems to be able to help. Can anyone advise? Thanks Neil

    Hi ,
Are you using the old Orange SIM card?
Have you tried to reset the network settings as below:
Note: Resetting the network settings will clear all WiFi passwords and refresh device network connections.
From the home screen, tap Settings.
Scroll down to, then tap General.
Scroll down to, then tap Reset.
    Tap Reset Network Settings.
Tap Reset Network Settings to confirm.
Note: If a security code is enabled, this will need to be entered between steps 4 and 5.
    Thanks.

  • How do I get rid of yahoo toolbar and get back my orange firefox button in the upper left corner of screen so I can use my stuff again?

Yahoo toolbar suddenly imposed itself as my log on screen whenever I booted up my computer and clicked on Firefox. Now I can't get to my bookmarks even though it told me that if I activated the new bookmark system it would transfer my old ones. It didn't happen. The toolbar has no bar for typing in a www.http address. I cannot use it and don't want it. I am using Explorer just so I can access my bookmark address, but don't like Explorer. I want my old Firefox screen back that has the little orange button in the upper left corner of the screen. How can I get there? My computer use has been highly curtailed by this unrequested invasion!

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).<br />
If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.<br />
You can click the Maximize button at the top right to leave full screen mode or right click empty space on a toolbar and use "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press F11.<br />
If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key to make the menu bar appear.

  • Magsafe light flashes orange/green

I've just bought a used MBP 2.2 MHZ which operates fine except for switching back and forth between charging modes when the battery is around 85% full. The magsafe light stays orange a few seconds, then shows green for a second, then back to orange; the charging indicator on the screen switches at the same time. I swapped to a known working magsafe charger - same result. Operating on battery power is also a bit strange, with the available percentage of battery jerking around. Looking around, I see some 2007 and 2008 threads about this issue, but no final resolution at that time. Is there now a "bottom line" to this problem? Thanks!

No, it's not a battery calibration issue - but it could be a bad battery. The flashing MagSafe is a hardware issue. Since the SMC is the controller for power systems, resetting it is about all you can do for 'software' type of fix. If that doesn't correct it, the problem is either with the adapter itself (which you apparently ruled out), with the battery, or with an internal component (more likely the left I/O board, but possibly also the logic board itself).
The fact that your available percentage jumps around points to a deeper problem (time remaining can jump around depending on system load, but % charge should go in only one direction when running on battery).
Given your symptoms, I'd be inclined to try a replacement battery first, before looking inside the case for a problem.
If there's an Apple Store near you, make a Genius Bar appointment and let them have a look - they will be able to test the battery as well.
If you like, post your Full Charge Capacity and Cycle Count (from Apple menu > About this Mac . More Info > Power) for a preliminary diagnosis...

  • Pentax Raw Conversion is too orange.

I'm doing the Aperture trial and have been frustrated by the raw conversions for Pentax. I know Lightroom has a similar issue.
    The reds come out orange.
Does anyone have Aperture settings to offset this? What's especially frustrating is things look "good" in the preview as Aperture is loading a raw image; then, once it applies it's conversion it's back to orange.
Then, in comparison to the Pentax Lab or Browser conversions (or SilkyPix which it is based upon) they look REALLY orange.
Anyone else have the same issue and a solution?
    Kind regards

Worked....many thanks...I still am frustrated that the PEFs aren't recognized. Switching to DNG...

  • Orange and my flakey new N80

Ok - having read all the info here and being prepared to deal with a few gremlins (I still really like the N80)...
Last night I spent a couple of hours setting up my email and got both Orange Email and Gmail working, both send and receive, with no Certificate problems on Gmail, over both 3G (Orange Internet), GPRS and my home Wireless network. Was very pleased with myself.
This morning, during an email check, the phone crashed and turned itself off, lost sight of the MiniSD, lost all the email configuration and generally annoyed me to the point I called Orange.
I got through to their 3G support department (too many keypresses but worth it when I got there), I described my many observations about the restarts, memory problems, bluetooth problems, etc, etc. They ran some diagnostics and I will have my replacement delivered to me tomorrow before 1pm. Apparently the diags just said, "Replace, Replace, Replace"
I'm currently on V 3.0614.0.3, so it will be interesting to see what gets delivered tomorrow. I'm wondering if there was a faulty component batch on the phones delivered to Orange?
Impressed with the N80, and Orange (so far), but not the stability - lets hope new firmware and hardware resolve it all.

I think if you check your phone from time to time or when you move to another area you'll find that it will reconnect... The only way to stop this is by orange, with them switching of the gprs it still tries to connect but fails(but that also means no sending mms which is not good).
they tried to make out to me that the phone is faulty which means sending out another phone this would mean that would be my 3rd phone in 11 days! I also found out from looking around that orange reconfiger all their phone with their software, and its clear that it's clashing with nokia, which has coursed the n80 to crash and go crazy.
I don't have a problem with orange they have always been friendly and helpful when speaking to them, well try to be helpful, but its like having a sports car and ripping the engiene out... this is what orange in my mind have done.
I'm not say that the phone wont have any bugs its new out and we're testing it for nokia so in a few months this phone will be much better....
If you want to get the phone direct from O2 you can't untill the 5/6/06 as they keep getting software problems and have put the date back twice already.... therefore i'm sorry to say i'm sending the phone back to orange ending my contract, and will think about getting it from on-line as these are unlocked phones and hoping they'll be better (the deals aren't though) with no one playing around with the settings and software...
we'll just have to waite and see i guess.... it would be cool to see what ppl think who are on other networks about this phone, and what software problems they've had if any...

  • Orange and my nokia n80

well i've have been with o2 for years but went with orange this time round as offered a great deal on my nokia n80.. first handset was fualty not orange's fualt... however, have just found out that my second n80 has been connecting to orange internet every time it come into a 3g signel.... i found this out last night when I went to my connection manager to find there it was all connected for over 2 and half hours. I dissconected the connection only to find that it had done it yet again later on in the everning.. both times data had been sent and recieved.. I contacted orange spoke to billing who told me there was a £9.00 data charge on my phone, which the bill was on the 22nd had the contracted 18th of this month... i then spoke to fualts dep, who said they would pass it on to the tec guys and to stop it have diconnected my gprs in the mean time, and said that this phone may be faulty aswell...
has anyone else had the same prob with the orange network? or could it be a fualt with this handset... personely i feel it's orange's way of making more money from ppl hence good contract deals.. but hay please tell me what you think, as i feel this needs to be looked at by both nokia and orange

  • Macbook Air mid-2013 suddenly not booting - showed battery icon then died

    Hi all,
This morning, I used my Macbook Air (mid-2013) to send an email and check up on my usual stuff, nothing I've not done hundreds of times. I then closed the lid and went to work. Again, nothing I've never done before.
When I got home though, I opened the Macbook and it didn't wake up, which I thought was odd. So I pressed the power button. For a few seconds, it showed an icon in the middle of a black screen that was related to the battery - sorry I can't recall exactly what it looked like, its the first time I've seen it, but it showed an empty battery with a small red part of it left - obviously understood as meaning the battery was flat.
I was puzzled at this; it should have been asleep since I'd closed the lid, how could it have run out? I was only gone for about 8 hours as well, I usually get more battery life than that out of it when I'm actually using it, never mind when its sleeping.
But I thought whatever, and plugged it in for a few minutes to charge it up enough to turn on and maybe see why it had done this. The orange light came on the Magsafe end, but after a few minutes, still nothing.
Cue much panicking and looking around at things, and this is what I've discovered/tried:
    - The battery appears to be charging, the light eventually went green.
    - When I press the power button, the Mac does power on; I can hear the fan inside if I put my ear to it (note that this means its really quiet, its not blowing at full power or anything), and the Mac is getting hot on the left hand side where the power adapter plugs in. It turns on both when plugged in and when its not. So the battery has power and the machine is turning on, it just isn't booting or doing anything. I can turn it off if I hold the power button down for about 3 seconds, the fan stops. But everything else is completely unresponsive. Also, it gets quite hot pretty quick, hotter than it normally does when in use.
    - I've reset the SMC, several times. When I do this, the light on the Magsafe goes green for a second, then back to orange, as though I've just plugged it in. I guess this means it is responding to the SMC reset, but it does nothing in terms of getting the thing started. This is the first thing people suggest with this problem, but I've already done it and while it seems to be doing its thing, it doesn't fix the problem.
    - I've tried resetting the PRAM/NVRAM. This has no noticeable affect on anything.
    - I've tried holding a bunch of different keys when starting up (cmd+R etc.) but again, nothing.
    - I've tried something crazy suggested in another thread; leaving the Macbook partially opening and shaking it, which supposedly does something to the "sudden motion sensor". I wouldn't have tried this but a whole bunch of people said it worked for them, but it does nothing for me. The fact this step didn't work is why I made a new thread; because the issue with those people seemed to be that their Macs wouldn't wake up from sleep/hibernation and shaking it somehow did that, or they just magically woke up on their own.
And at this stage I seem to have run out of thing to try.
I've made an appointment at the Genius bar but the earliest they could do is Saturday, which is pretty crappy and I'm going travelling in less than 2 weeks, so I really need my Macbook to sort out the details since a lot of info about it is on there exclusively.
Does anyone know any reason why this might have happened?
Why would the battery drain so fast when it was supposed to be sleeping?
Why will it now not boot at all, even though it's powering up in some way? Could it not booting be related to the fact the battery seemed to run completely flat, and this has done something to the software or hardware?
Any suggestions beyond what I've tried already?
If I can't get it working before my Genius appointment, I'll post what happens here just in case any one else has this issue so people will have an idea of what might have happened to them.
    Thanks in advance!

You could try booting the MBP using the OPTION+COMMAND+R keys and see if it will connect to the Apple servers.  This would allow you to install the original OSX .  I have my doubts though.

The Sudden Motion Sensor is applicable for conventional Hard Drives, not the SSD that is in a MBA.  Doing that will serve no useful purpose.
You have exhausted all reasonable options and will just have to have the MBA evaluated at the genius bar.

  • 6301 latest firmware update issue

I've just updated my 6301's firmware from version 4.62 to 9.40 - it's on Orange UK. Since then every time I switch the phone on and log on to the network I get a text back from Orange 452, titled:
    "MyFaves Service"
    and the message is:
"Sorry, country not recognised. Please check spelling and try again. Remember to use the full country name. You have not been charged for this message."
Anyone any ideas on this one?

At least they phoned you back, I'm still waiting for a call. It obviously depends on who you talk to at Nokia and Orange, clearly some appear to have access to more information than others (or go the extra mile) - or know where to look. Presumably as the problem has become more widely reported they have got more information, just not a fix yet.

  • Icloud calendar colors automatically changing

On iOS 6 and 7 my icloud shared calendars are automatically changing as if they are on a rainbow timer. When I set it back to a different color, a few minutes later it just goes back and changes again. I really thought iOS7 would solve this. Any suggestions?

Mine is doing the same thing. I though there would be one place where I could change it and it would push out to the others, but that doesn't seem to be the case. My primary calendar was Orange for the longest time, but now it keeps turning Purple.
Here's where I've tried to change it:
icloud.com via Safari 6 on OS X Lion
    iCal on OS X Lion
    Calendar App on iOS 7
    Sunrise Calendar on iOS 7
On each one of these, I am able to change the color back to Orange, but within a minute or less, it is back to Purple. The only exception is iCal on Lion. It retains my color change even through calendar refreshes, but when the app is quit and relaunched, the changes have not persisted and the Orange calendar is now Purple again.

  • Bugreport

    Hi there!
In the last days I had my first recording session with Logic 8.
string recording with 6 tracks (1 Stereo, 4 Mono)
What a nightmare. At least combined with digidesign hardware (wich is still the most professional for recording) the program is so buggy!
    Here my list.
Maybe somebody knows a way how to handle one of this bugs.
    • Ghost files; Logic plays files where they never were placed..............like in Logic 7
    • Sometimes Sync offset between Midi and Audio
    • Error message: error while trying to syncronice Audio and Midi........... like in Logic 7
    • Audio Instr. quits playing when changing volume level while recording on other audio tracks
    • Audio on Direct TDM track does not always play from the begining.
    • Solo in the Enviroment only works when an output objekt is created for the output the track is
routed to. On direct TDM tracks solo works fine.
    • Graphikbugs: Metering looks funny, some solo buttons are checked with a red line
    • comp tracks do not work on stereo split tracks
    What needs to be changed:
    • Please create the possibility to enable comp tracks and bring back the orange "X" on the transport
    • Changing the selections of a comp track is not affected by groupsettings. Please change this.
Imagine recording an orchester with lets say 20 tracks and you want to change takes of an comp
track. Now you have to change the selection on every single track.
Thats it for the first time. Maybe somebody can give me a tip to solve one of these problems.
A few of them are simply bugs I guess.
    bets wishes
    riku

    Strange!
    No reaction at all.
Are there no studio owners out there with the same problems?

  • Why does my MacBook Pro battery discharge even when the charger is plugged in?

I've been having a myriad of problems with my MacBook Pro's battery. The main problem is that when in use, the battery steadily discharges often at a very quick rate even when I have the charger plugged in, the only way I can get it to recharge is to close the lid or turn the computer off, however, it has recently started to take a very long time to recharge (I left it for 12 hours and it charged from 0% to 60%). I also noticed that while off, the charger light occassionaly goes green and then back to orange every few minutes. When I manage to get the battery up to 100% charge, it usually stays at 'Charged' for around 5 or 10 minutes and then it just comes up with 'Calculating...' as it slowly discharges, it also occassionaly claims that it is recharging and that it will take around 6 to 8 hours but it only charges about 1% of the battery and switches to 'Not charging'. Also, sometimes the charger light wont come on when it is plugged in and the Mac refuses to acknowledge it is plugged in for some time.
I took it to the Apple Store a few months ago and one of the Geniuses reset the System Management controller and did a quick hardware test which seemed to fix it but the problems returned soon after, I cannot enter the hardware test screen and subsequent attempts to reset the SMC have done nothing, he also tested the charger and tried it with another charger but it did not help.  Hope you guys can help me as I am completely stumped by this and its beginning to annoy me as my Mac is becoming almost unusable.
