Back in the Box!!

Well I sure wish I read these forums before I committed my myself.
After un-packing, and initial installation, things seemed ok, it took about 3 hours to get internet through the thing (to be honest i still don't know what i did to get it working, and I have some experience with macs and internet etc.)
My printers where found on my USB hub but would they work? I started worry when the colored umbrella reared its ugly head!
Then I tried a few small files, sluggish but bearable.
Then the next day my airport connection dipped drastically and a 4mg file transfer was estimated at 9 hours!!
I read forums and tried a few suggestions, no real change.
The next day my internet connection disappeared, and I realized £200 is to much to spend on somthing which I cannot fathom and appears to be run by Voodoo or some esoteric Goobledegook.
So back in the box with it and Apple can have it back!!

I can relate to the frustration of a dying/dead Time Capsule. When TC begins to die it can be very frustrating because it is difficult to diagnose its problem areas. Mine began by failing to pass Internet data to an Extreme used as an extender. Over time, the router failed and the drive simply died. AppleCare is really trying but it is difficult for them to diagnose problems with A) a new product without a big experience base and B) without actually seeing what it is doing or not doing.
This product does have flaws as most products do but in the case of TC, it appears to be evenly split between "works perfectly" and "doesn't work at all".
While I personally will refrain from calling the product names (I did that in private but I won't here) it does "have issues" and Apple will need to be receptive to customers having problems so they can sort out what is going wrong with a large number of the units. They seemed eager to get mine back. I suspect the first failures will be gone over quite thoroughly.
After shipping mine back yesterday I found myself thinking about the foolishness of putting all backups onto one device. If that device should fail, everything is lost for several users. I have reverted to my previous strategy of critical computers being cloned to two different hard drives with routine User folder backups AND Time Machine filling in the gaps on an ongoing basis. Time Machine is a good idea and it works well but it should not be seen as a one size fits all backup solution when other, simple, easy, fast and cheap methods are also available to Mac owners such as making startup images - something PC users can't do. I have decided not to replace my TC even when they are revised and fixed. I feel for my needs, that money is better spent on faster, more reliable means of data security.

    If you have the chance stop by an Apple Retail store and talk to them about it...they often work deals for replacement of out of warranty non-working items for prices around half price.  Won't hurt to stop by and see what they will do for you.

    Having the imei won't help you find your phone.
    If you setup and enabled find my phone prior to losing it then go to icloud.com
    If you didn't set it up - then there nothing you can do.
    Call your carrier and let them know, change all your passwords.

  • My computer screen keeps going blank and then going back to the box where I put my password in to start my comp. Why is this happening?

    My computer (Macbook) was working fine this am. I left it for an hour and then came back and the screen was black (always does that as the screensaver hardly ever works). I moved the mouse to wake it up and everything was normal. I went to adjust the volume and the screen went blank and the main page with the box where I put my password in when I first start my comp appeared. I put my password in and everything was normal again. I opened a window in Safari and before it loaded completely the same thing happened, the screen went blank and went back to the password box. Does anyone know why this is happening? I don't have an external hard drive or any blank flash drives so I can't back anything up right now and am afraid I'm going to lose everything. Thank you

    Sounds like hardware failure, called boot loop. Call Apple and or go on apple.com and make Genius Bar appointment to have your iphone reviewed by a Tech. Provided you iphone shows no physical or liquid damage they will take care of you, or if you have Apple Care Plus

    then you are using the wrong number or there's a connection issue.  your serial number is 6 groups of 4 numbers.

    You cannot track an iPad with the Serial Number.

  • 4GLTE Saying Upgrade Available - Will Not Accept Password on Back of The Device as Password?

    Does anyone know why it will not accept the MIFI password clearly on the back of the device to do the upgrade?

    In this world of passwords I know how irritating it is to have these error message issues. I would be glad to help so you can use your device to the fullest!
    The password on the back of the box is normally for initial setup only. Try the generic password of  "admin" If that doesn't work we will gladly further troubleshoot with you. What type of MiFi do you have? Here's a link to another forum post that has some great suggestions.

  • My VBOX lies in the box because it isn't very good...

    Hello, Every few months I get out my Vision box and try an update to see if anything improves. I've had my box (well, actually a few boxes) since it first started.
    Every time I get it out and update I'm still disappointed and put it back in the box. It has the potential but it fails every time.
    I rang support today to see if the vision+ box had any improvements to entice me back. It's a new colour and restyling, nothing else. Same internals.
    These are my gripes, but first this is my setup: I have a HD ready plasma TV (Panny Viera) with a wii, xbox, blu-ray, dvd and external amp connected. All use hdmi inputs (well, the wii is component based):
    1. When I switch on the vbox the sound is too quiet to listen to. I don't want to turn it up because then every other device I've listed becomes too loud.
    2. The black levels are horrible. It's very very hard to distinguish blacks (everything dark is just black). If I adjust the settings then everything else is wrong.
    So, basically, all my attached devices manage to show the same levels of black and have the same sound. So why can't the VBOX? All they have to do is add to the menu an option to adjust the VBOX's sound level and brightness/contrast/gamma, it's hardly a monumental task to put these options in.
    Actually, thinking about it, the other really, really annoying thing is it just can't handle 4:3 to 16:9 properly and you can't change how it handles 4:3 globally, you have to modify every channel individually.
    Am I alone in these issues?

    Alot of people have commented on both the old and new forums about the sound being very quiet compared to other connected devices.
    I recently posted that i have to increase my TV levels to 25 compared to say 15 to actually hear Christine Bleakley from the one show to say her magic stuff, then when we switch to sky, its like being blown away!!!
    The good thing is that the mods watch these forums and pass comment to the developers.  A while back we did not have padding for recording before the program started, after say 12 months of hard waiting, the V-Box was updated.
    Dont get me wrong but the V-Box is not the best in the world but does a good job, free pvr and paid content for those who want it.

    When you went back to the place where you purchased this phone, & asked them, what did they say?
    No one here can help you with this, nor can/will Apple. You need to take this up with whoever you purchased this phone from.

  • When I am trying to update or download an app, another Apple ID appears in the Apple ID box, and I can't change it.  The cursor is in the password box and I'm unable to move it back into the Apple ID box in order to change it.

    When I try to update or download an app, very often another Apple ID shows up in the Apple ID box and the cursor is in the Password box and I can't move it back to the Apple ID box in order to put my ID in!  Apple ID looks like an email address of a colleague in my school system, however, I don't know the person and that person has never logged into my computer.

    You don't need to restart your computer to open Firefox again: you just need to close it manually through your application manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC in Processes tab). Anyway, hopefully this support article is what you need:

    What's probably happening is that you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
