Back in the saddle, feeling kinda lost...
After a long hiatus from graphics, I'm suddenly back in Illustrator and -- boy -- have there been a lot of changes since I was using Illustrator 8! Right now I'm trying to get a vector image to behave, but I'm running into challenges right and left.
First, let me explain. I had another designer scan one of my drawings and convert it to a vector. He gave me the file, which he saved in .ai format, and I am using cs6. This is a fairly complicated design of a grape vine, so there are compound paths throughout. I have ungrouped so that I can select shapes within the shapes, etc. and my goal is to colorize the image with three PMS spot colors. I used to do this very easily in the past.
The biggest issue I am having now is that even though it appears that I've filled shapes with color from my swatches, the color is not showing up at all in the image. When I click on the shapes, I see my colors appear in the stroke and fill boxes of the toolbar, but the image itself remains white.
Can anyone help me figure out what is going on? Once I do that, I would like to be able to save my image as an .eps and have a transparent background. I can save that challenge for later though. First things first.

Maybe this will help. I selected one of the objects and pulled the menu down to reveal what choices come up. As you can see, compound path is not available, as well as the unlock all feature. Hmmmmm. But you will notice that I've expanded the layer menu.
Any other ideas?
I'm a teacher and have to report to work in the morning (first day back for the new school year). I'll come back and check in the morning and again late afternoon to see if anyone else has an idea of what's happening.

I haven't touched an NLE since I closed my studio and training website a few years ago. But someone roped me into doing a couple video projects for them this summer. So, Im going to get back in the saddle and do some editing again; just for these couple projects. My gear is all sold off, so Im putting together a new modest workstation and will be strapping on some Creative Cloud. The new "rent" program actually works well for me in this case since I will probably just need the tools for a couple months.
With the editing rust that developed in my old bones I will probably be here asking a bunch of questions. My expertise ended with ver 5.0!
PS; I see they finally added back the Paste Attributes selectively feature in the CC release that was in Premiere 6.5 and was removed in "Pro". Cool. Kinda excited to get back at it. I see somebody changed the paint in here again...Col,
I agree with Ann. There are a number of features and new capabilities that are really quite beneficial to my workflow.
The way that Nests work and being able to create subclips with all of their effects intact has been helpful to me. The ability to work with more 4K material is becoming more and more important.
The stuff coming out (or being re-announced) in June makes it pretty obvious that they are still working as hard as they can to improve things. The fact that it is 7.2.2 and not just 7.1 or even 7.0 shows that the subscription makes it easier to release features as the get finished.
I am really looking forward to being able to apply effects to master clips in the Source Monitor. That will change the way I work. Previously I have been applying the effects to the master clip in a new sequence and then using that sequence as a clip to do my editing. I will be able to skip that step and just use the master clip. But even nesting was an improvement over having no way to take things from a timeline to a bin.
Having said that, Adobe added some useless, or worse, irritating features. That crud at the end of the sequence that makes you think that there is something there and there really isn't, it is just a repeated frame that isn't really there. I would love to have a serious discussion about how irritating that really is with the person who thought it was a good idea. But that could have happened in the perpetual license days too. -
Please, I am partially handicapped, and with the new version 4.0, I have lost ALL my Most Visited links and history, plus my Norton Safe master log on manager is also gone. (Typing in difficult for me)
Regretting this upgrade BIG time, I want to revert back to the last version but cannot find any instructions anywhere.
One blog entry I read said that the revert process (not explained how) made that person lose ALL their bookmarks.
There was NO warning that this 4.0 version would do any of this, and this is unacceptable, my favorite browser for a long time has me wondering now if I should go to Chrome!Firefox 4.0 has a combined Reload, Stop, & Go button that appears at the right end of the location bar. Only one function is ever active at any one time, so combining them save UI space was a good idea. When a page is loading, it is a "Stop" button, when it finished loading, it turns into a "Reload" button, and when you start to type something into the Location bar it turns into a "Go" button.
To restore the Firefox 3 appearance you can use these steps:
* Open the "View > Toolbars > '''Customize'''" window or right-click a vacant area on a Toolbar, ''except fot the Bookmarks Toolbar''.
* Then drag'n'drop the Reload and Stop buttons to their previous position at the left side of the Location bar.
# Set the order to "Reload - Stop" to get a combined "Reload/Stop" button.
# Set the order to "Stop - Reload" to separate them and get two distinct buttons. -
My computer crashed and I lost my photos, but had a backup of my music. How can I open the database file to transfer the pics back to my computer? Help please.
You won't be able to, just by navigating out the iPod's photos folder in iTunes. You'll likely need the help of some sort of third party software to get the job done for you. One thing you'll want to keep in mind about these photos is that they are no longer in their full resolution, but instead are scaled down thumbnail versions that were optimized for viewing on your iPod's Video smaller 2.5" LCD display.

If you didn't get everything back you can try recovery-android.com. It works with ipads. There's a free trial so if you didn't get back all your pictures and videos you took after your backup last month, you might want to give it a try.

i have an old iphone and than i got a new one but never backed the new one up because i was waiting for a computer charger i just got the charger today i backed the old phone up than the new one i transfered the pictures from the old one to the new one with no problem but lost any pictures i had on the new one can i get them back
It sounds like you restored the backup of your old phone to your new phone.
Unless you backed up the new phone first or manually copied the pictures off prior to restoring the backup, the pictures are gone. -
I lost my iTunes library on my pc when the hard drive crashed. None of the data on the drive was recoverable and I did not have a backup either locally or on the cloud. Much of the music is from old vinyl and podcasts which are no longer available.
How can I get the music that resides on my ipod nano (4th generation) back onto the new hard drive on my pc.
I have been reluctant to install iTunes on the new hard drive out of fear that I will lose all the contents on the ipod if I try to synch to the new hard drive.

It sounds like you are unable to join your network and cannot see it in the Wi-Fi list in Settings. I would try the troubleshooting outlined in this article named:

Can I put two iMac's back to back on the same desk. I noticed the computers feeling hot.
Can I put two iMac computers back to back on the same desk - I share a table with my husband and our computers have to be placed back to back. I noticed the tops of the computers feel hot!
There should definitely be a little space between them to allow for ventilation, but it's normal for the top area to get hot.

We've an article that provides the following troubleshooting steps that may help stabilize your iPhone.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:

Had to buy a new PC as the hard disk of the old one broke and lost all purchases, but still have them on the iPhone. How can I sync them back to the new PC in iTunes without losing them?
You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

A new version shouldn't do that but it does seem to happen on occasion to a few unlucky ones. Restore your library from the backup you make of your computer before you install new software. If you don't have one, this is a learning experience.
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

I have been dragging my files to a external drive to have a back-up for them and I lost some of my folders. They just went completely missing. I didn't delete them, and it was all stuff that I have worked on in the past month. How do I get them back?
You really should be doing backups with an actual backup application, especially one that will work automatically, and, if your external HD is large enough, back up your entire system. These can automatically back up only what's changed since the previous backup, and some will keep "archive" copies of things you've changed or deleted, also.
Too many things can go wrong, such as your internal HD failing, and you'll have a major project to reinstall everything.
You already have Time Machine, built-in to OSX. You might want to review the Time Machine Tutorial, and perhaps browse Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

How do I get my ringtones back on my phone?
I lost my ringtones from my phone when I upgraded to iOS 6 on my iPhone 4. The ringtones are still on my computer and play in iTunes, but they won't re-transfer back to the phone. I'm using the correct iTunes account on both my computer and phone. In the iPhone view of iTunes on my computer, it shows that my phone recognizes that I had those ringtones, but there is an exclamation mark showing that my phone can't find the files. I can't delete these "placeholders" from my phone with the hopes of re-transfering the files back to the phone, either. I cannot just simply re-transfer the files from my computer back to the phone. It won't let me using the regular synch options and I can't find anything in the menus of iTunes to help me out either.
