Back to base install?

hi, is there a possibility to delete everything installed except the base install? so that a bloated test sys shrinks back to a sys like fresh installed, without reinstall?

I have an mid 07 iMac, running on Mountain lion OS. It has been not working smoothly, constant freezing. I'm guessing its dying, however when I run a hardware test on DU is passes with no errors. I would like to wipe it clean and re-install my most recent OS, and my backed up harddrive. I have everything backed up on an external hd. I tried to do the recovery with Command R and it wouldn't do it. I think its something with my internet connection?? I tried to reinstall with the last OS install disk I have which is Snow Leopard. It wouldn't let me do that either. Do I have to go back to original install disk that came with it and start from scratch? Just to repeat. Back up before doing anything; preferably to an external (portable) HD.
Luckily you seem to have the original dvd. Boot from that; you should then be able to select erase and install. That will erase everything on your HD and load the OS. It should bring you to 10.6.3. Once that is done you can then software update to 10.6.8. The Combo update is an option you can use instead of going through each process one at a time. For that you should download and apply ...

Only if it's got all of your content on it - a backup doesn't contain any of the content of the Music and Videos app, nor any photos that were originally synced from a computer. It also won't contain any of your downloaded apps, just their content and settings

Backing up DVD install software to my HD?

i just had to install iWork '09 due to some issue i am having in yosemite with pages and i am realizing i have fewer and fewer install DVD's while most of my install software is on my hard drive or on App Store.
is there a way to back up these install DVD's to my Hard Drive so i don't have to worry about the disk getting corrupted or otherwise have all this material in various places?

so i will read up on this but can i basically do this for any DVD that i have including OS X install DVD's or Windows install DVD's (or i guess this one would be dumb and i should do the equivalent in windows if i want)?

try resetting your phone by turning it off and back on again. Also, the server may still be slammed from all the activity, so it may take a little with to connect.

DAQmx base install in linux

i really need some help soon on this and i got nothing from a post in
the labview section. thought this might be a better forum for my
question.
i'm trying to install NIDAQmx base v1.5 in RH fedora core 4.
FC4 does not automatically install the kernel sources/headers. so i
downloaded those and followed the instructions to get them into the
/usr/src/linux-2.6.11 directory. i did a kernel build and compiled +
installed the modules using the make modules/make modules_install. i
rebooted with the new kernel so that all the environment variables are
in correct. i was not too attentive to the kernel option when i
compiled but it booted up and linux ran. now in the updateNIDrivers
script the make install line creates compile time errors which cause
the instalation to fail. i have no idea how to fix this. any ideas?
is there a kernel option i missed? does NI KAL not work with FC4 only with FC3? or do i have to get RH Ent Linux WS3 instead?
is there anyway to install the kernel sources into the default directory and not require a kernel build.
i also installed RH8.0 and NIDAQmx base installed just fine. lsdaq
foubnd my deivce. but labivew did not have the DAQ vi's
installed. i tried reinstalling labview etc but no luck
i would prefer to use the newer RH linux so if anyone has tips on
getting NIDAQmx base working on FC3 or FC4 that would be great. if need
be i'll by enterprise linux. otherwise i would be ok using RH8 if
someone could let me know how to get the vi's installed into LV.

NIDAQmx base v1.5 is officially supported under Redhat Enterprise WS 3,
SuSE Professional 9.2, and Mandrake official 10.0 as stated in the
README.txt file. The Fedora Core line of RH is not supported
which means we have done no testing to verify the driver will
function. You are still welcome use other Linux varients, with
the knowledge that National Instruments cannot provide support, and
that it may not work.
With that said I believe if you search the forums you will find some
customers that have managed to get the driver to install on FC3 with
modifications. However, because of patches applied to the FC3 kernel
you may still encounter problems using the driver. It is unlikely
that FC4 will be any better. You may have more luck with the
older distributions (RH9, FC1, FC2)
I would recommend using SuSE 9.2, or Mandrake 10.0 if you would like to
use a free distributions with a 2.6 kernel. However if you prefer
RedHat you may want to purchase RHE WS 3.

Can't seem to install correctly - keeps taking me back to the install option only when I open the icon - goes through the whole process

I have the student/teacher version - Even though I have downloaded - or it says it is installed - I can't get the program to open it only takes me back to the install menu.

It sounds like you are starting the installer again rather than the program. Try going to your applications folder or your program files folder and locate the icon for the Lightroom program in the folder. Double click on that icon to try to start the program. If that works then you should create a desktop icon for the program.

Finally I went through with what I intended. I've created a new, not-official, totally unsupported (unless you catch me in a good mood) base install cd. I decided to call it the jc patchset.
Currently it has support for dvorak keymaps and can install a custom vaio-skas kernel (with built-in acpi support which should work for most vaios and anything else that needs acpi on bootup). There are a few extra things that are needed upon install (most of them are documented).
The one big thing that isn't mentioned is that the vmlinuz image (if you decide to install the vaio kernel) isn't called /boot/vmlinuz, but /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.22-vaio-skas. Just remember that when configuring grub/lilo.

The basic idea is to (1) copy the whole Arch Linux CD into a folder on HD, (2) replace the packages with latest, (3) make a new package list and check / edit any scripts if needed (e.g. /arch/setup), (4) compile everything into an iso file with mkisofs command, and (5) burning CD.
Currently I don't have my computer with me (I am traveling) otherwise I could have given the details (especially the mkisofs formula). I will post later if needed.

Itunes 10.6.1.7 will not install...goes back to check for new update then goes back to original install screen

I tunes 10.6.1.7 won't install....when I click Install....it checks for an update and then goes back to the original install screen without doing anything..... I have tried repairing I tunes first before doing the update and also tried unchecking ICloud and Safari to let I tunes update alone but still does not work...even tried to update ICloud and Safari by themselve's and those will not update either...

It's sounding a bit like a problem with your Apple Software Update.
Restart the PC. Now go into your Uninstall a program control panel. Can you see Apple Software Update in the list of programs? If so, select Apple Software Update and click "Repair".
If the repair goes through okay, can you get the updates to go through properly now?

IMac never came back on after installing some updates and trying to restart

I installed some updates and tried to restart, but it was taking for ever so I turned it off from the main power button but sktill does not come back on, it just stays on the first white screen where you see the apple logo and the circle going around!
Very frustrating any ideas how should I start it up again! Should I take it to the shop or is there a way to finally turn on?

It worked after I did that and read the articles you, link, you provided, but I finally did the archive install and have access to previous accounts too except my pictures and videos! It has a small "one way" sign on the folder pictures of the previous user (me) and it says I don't have privileges!
Any idea how can I recover these type of folders onto a new hard drive before I proceed to a new system update?

Has anyone had an issue with the advanced eval license triggering the below alerts after a full base license has been installed and the advanced eval license has expired?
How can I keep the license expiration warnings and avoid receiving warnings for an expired eval licence?

The way to supress this message is to disable the License Expiration Alarm.
To do this, go to Administration > System > Settings. Choose Alarm Settings from the Left Menu.
Scroll down and select Licensing | License Expiration from the list of Alarms.
Click the Edit Button and use the dropdown to change the Status to Disable. Click Submit and you're done.
I would then set a Calendar reminder through Outlook (or on your phone) to enable this feature once the expiration date for your Advance License has passed.
